  4. Mew Mew Mew I has cute says:

Hope she didn’t drive home with catnip! ykwim

  5. wuyizidi says:

You always see dogs having a blast riding in a speeding car. Cats are obviously too small to stick their head out of window, but does anyone have a cat that enjoy car rides?

  6. claudia says:

even though i hav 2 huskys that kitten is soooooooo cute!

  7. Kristabelle says:

    Now THAT is STINKIN’ CUTE!!!!

  8. kibblenibble says:

wuyizidi: My dear departed Peeker enjoyed riding in the car. She would put her paws on the edge of the (rolled up) window and look all around, eliciting smiles and waves from other cars. She was a real sweetie, rescued from an abusive home. I am so lucky to have shared time with her. This driving kitty looks like a special kitty, too! The darling profile and mittens carefully gripping the wheel…*swoon*

She’s got her GPS thing goin’ on and she’s ready for a road trip! I think I lubs her. <3

  11. Suzanne says:

@Stunbunny & Prongs – Toonces was the first thing I thought of when I saw the pic. Kitteh is obviously following his driver’s ed teacher’s instructions and doing the “9 – 12 – 3″ check as he drives. ;)

  12. eastiegirl says:

Awwwwwww…so cute. He’s/she’s ready to go! Happy New Year, all!

  13. Saffron says:

Kitteh is clearly going to purchase his Christmas wrapping paper for 2010 at the post-holiday discount prices. Thrifty feline!

To CO and all posting friends: Have a safe, wonderful and joyous 2010, filled with laughter, friendship, good noms and an animal friend to share your life with. :) :) :)

Of course cats like to drive. They are carnivores after all.

Very cute. At last a cat who likes car rides.

In answer to the question about whether anyone knows of a cat who likes to be in cars, I would say 99% absolutely hate it. Mine tend to yowl at the top of their voices whenever they go in the car. But on the other hand, perhaps that’s because the only time they go in the car is when they are on a trip to the vet. Not a nice experience, from their point of view.

One of my Ex’s from years past was an avid sailor, and we used to take his kitten with us to the lake because he fancied the idea of having a ship’s cat. He started her out riding in the car/boat when she was only a tiny kitten. She liked to sit on the dashboard and watch the world go by. She also liked playing in the boat and never did fall in the water. As she grew older, though, she decided she had better things to do than go to the lake with us, and took to disappearing into the field next to the house as soon as we started packing up for the lake. I think she was declaring her independence from the riding-in-moving-things idea.

This cat can come crash into my house any time.

    @ 260Oakley:

If ennybody else had analyzed that word so deeply as to make that pun, my response woulda been “OH NO, you DI-unt”. but, since YOU are the one who got to it …..that objection has no merit.

As I sit here watching a beautiful fluffy snowfall, I want to wish a very happy new year to everybody here, from me, Skippy, Edward, Francesco, and Chloe. I so appreciate the time that we all spend messing about here, and great thanks to our overlords who provide us with the Cute every day.

  24. Hon Glad says:

Be safe with CAT CABS. Our drivers can see in the dark and should we turn the cab over, we always land on all four wheels.

  25. Smooph says:

wuyizidi — I drove my dog and my roommate’s cat from Austin, TX to LA once. My dog was fine, he loves cars, but the cat spent most of the trip trying to sit on my head, with his claws anchoring him down. If he could have driven part of the way like this little guy, it would have been nice.

  26. Katrina says:

Now, if any kitteh would drive safely,it would be a marmie.
None of my cats ever liked the car and Killer goes into a real anxiety attack. A horrible sight, to be sure, the poor thing.

Happy and Healthy New Year 2010 to Everypeep!

  27. Teeny Gozer says:

    Nice designated driver!

I had a kitty (named Mehitabel) who was so down with driving in a car, she used to sleep in the back window as we drove on long car trips.

[Did you also have a talented cockroach poet? - Ed.]

  28. Hon Glad says:

Happy new Year to all the peeps. I mean 2010 has got to better than this past year, {{gulp}}}, hasn’t it ?????

I’m from BC, and Chance the dog has become a local celebrity of sorts after his story became public: he was found in pretty bad shape on the side of a road and the community has been pulling together to help with the costs of his care. His recovery has been remarkable… a true Christmas story for him indeed.

He even has his own facebook page:

    Happy New Year to all!!

My guess is that the kitten paid a premium to use the parking lot because we all know that kittens can’t parallel park.

PS happy hippy hoppy New Year to all especially Meg, Teho, NTMTOM, Prongs, and (?) Meg’s sister!

  44. StormCat says:

I had two Kittehs who enjoyed traveling… One was a Patio Cat (AKA grey and black tabby) named Momma who loved cars!! We had to keep in touch with our neighbors if they left their car windows open at night, ’cause they’d go to work the next morning to find Momma accompanying them!! She would sit in the back seat and just ride, like Drivin’ Miss Daisy!!

My other Kitteh who liked to ride was a Marmie named Tinker… I had her in my 18 wheeler for about 3 years… She would love to sit on the dashboard and chase the windshield wipers when it rained… Whenever she was up there, and I rode through the DOT scales, I’d hear over the scale radio “MCT, is that a CAT on your dashboard?!”… I’d nod and poke her, so she’d wake up and move her head around a little… I’d always hear a chuckle over the radio and they’d signal me through the scale… She was a great conversation started and LOVED to make people laugh…

They passed away within 3 months of each other about 5 years ago, but I still miss them….

  45. Paunchie says:

that’s sweet to have a kitty companion for long distance truck driving!

  46. Lerrinus says:

Happy new year and blessings to all teh Cute peeps!

And I now have an answer to the post from several days ago that asked what our best gift given or received was. One of my best girlfriends just gave me a whole bunch of kitty litter and food and toys for me to take to the county animal shelter. Isn’t that the sweetest thing ever?

  49. catloveschanel says:

Yah! Marmalicious Driv-ating! If kittehs could drive, it would be sorta like drivin’ in Haiti. Just doin’ your own thing. Happy New Year, May your next year be a Perfect 10!

  50. Awwww…so cute! I nearly passed out…from the cuteness!

  51. P.S. Happy New Year everyone! May 2010 bring us all more cuteness to overload on!

  52. nycat says:

now I want a ginger kitten!
I take my cats on “happy” rides. Just drive around for a little, no trip to the vet. It helps. Not every car ride is to the vet. Now, if I could just find a place to get them catnip ice cream, or sardine pops. . . .

  56. aroN says:

  58. Fran in L.A. says:

Turning the steering wheel is all well and good, but those cute toes are nowhere near the pedals. No gas, no go! Still, that’s the essence of cuteness behind the wheel! What a sweetie.

My only experience driving with a cat happened during my rescue years. I was handed a cat carrier with what felt like 30 lbs. of grey cat crammed inside (his fur was sticking out of the airholes. There was no sound, no growling or howling, which I found rather unnerving. I hop on the freeway and we’re sailing along. Just as we get to the interchange between two freeways (lots of tricky lane changes) I finally hear a sound from the back seat: claws shredding the cat carrier. I was in the fast lane with no emergency lane to pull into, and no quick way to cross four lanes of freeway and get to an exit. I’m sure the drivers around me thought I was drunk as I was weaving back and forth, trying to look forward and back at the same time. I looked in the rearview mirror and was horrified to see a large, grey head and one front leg sticking up out of the top of the carrier. Seconds later, the box was in shreds and I had this humongous cat clawing at the back of my seat. Just as I figured my life was over, I heard this extremely loud purring and was soon wearing a grey boa around my neck. Thankfully, once he was out of the carrier, my passenger was a happy camper, and the long drive turned out to be fun. Still, I’m sure I lost a good third of this lifetime when I felt those claws behind me!

  59. Paunchie says:

HAHAHA! At least now we know of one cat who does not like boxes!

Kitt just wanted to be a feather boa.

  60. Katrina says:

Happy New Year Peeps! Hon Glad! A special HNY to you, as I haven’t seen you around to say that.
May 2010 and beyond be wonderful, healthy, peaceful years, full of enough Cute for everyone.
Great story Fran in L.A.! I think the guy in back of the Marmie is taking care of the peddles, butyanevaknow! Here’s a toast to the muse of Whimsy! May she be with us all year!

  61. Queen of Dork says:

Happy New Year, Peeps!!!! Thanks Meg, Theo, NTMTOM and Prongs!

  62. @ Fran in LA gripping story …
@ Paunchie. re #42 LOL … LOL well I could blame it on cold hands LOL but I live in California and it has been quite pleasantly warm the last couple of days. HEHEHEH!!!

We had two different cats that liked to ride in Cars My tuffy cat a big long haired white and black Kitty who actually took a ride to the library in the back of my husbands pickup one day (accidentally) and then got a ride home in the cab of it. LOL.. Husband was stunned when he arrived there to see the kitty just kicked back enjoying the ride.

and we also had a little Tuxie kitty for a short while and she loved to go with me for rides in the car.

  63. MamaLana says:

Happy “Mew” Year, all you peeps! Drive safely.

    Toonces the Driving Cat !!!

  67. Meaghan says:

But do not let the kitten drive even if you are drunk. For god’s sake call a taxi. Kittens are notoriously bad drivers.

  68. Teresa says:

@Fran in L.A. Sounds like that kitty was more comfortable riding wrapped around your neck as you did the driving

  69. Teresa says:

As for that sweet little white and orange tabby :D I would just LOVE to have a kitty like that :D and he/she would not have to drive me anywhere :D I would carry the kitty around :D

    I don’t have a kitteh driving story but was reminded of this true new story about a dog driving in China;
Woman Crashes When Teaching Dog to Drive
    Monday, August 28, 2006

    (08-28) 17:19 PDT BEIJING, China (AP) –

A woman in Hohhot, the capital of north China’s Inner Mongolia region, crashed her car while giving her dog a driving lesson, the official Xinhua News Agency said Monday.

No injuries were reported although both vehicles were slightly damaged, it said.

The woman, identified only be her surname, Li, said her dog “was fond of crouching on the steering wheel and often watched her drive,” according to Xinhua.

“She thought she would let the dog ‘have a try’ while she operated the accelerator and brake,” the report said. “They did not make it far before crashing into an oncoming car.” …

Um, shouldn’t she have let her dog practice in an empty car park first?

  71. jillian says:

Seriously? You guys think this is cute???

That kitten is WAY too young to be driving a car. This is terribly irresponsible of the owners. Cats should be at LEAST 2 YEARS OLD before they are allowed behind the wheel. I could understand a scooter, maybe a segway.. But this kitten is breaking way to many laws.

Happy new year! Lets keep the drunk and underaged kittens off the road tonight please. :)

  72. Amy says:

“that’s not bad for a quadroped.. you gotta check your mirrors.. just side of your eye, side of your eye”

“don’t drive angry, don’t drive angry”

  73. I will name her Pumpkin Crunch, because she is awesome.

  74. victoreia says:

    @jillian: *snicker* “Underaged kittens.”

  75. Shizzle :D says:

When it became New Years, my cat was JUST like that… Though she’s fatter… So cute though <33 Now I understand why it's called "Cute Overload"

  77. Queen of Dork says:

Speaking of New Year, I have a teensy bit of a resolution: My cat (he’s nine years old) has always been a dry food fed boy. But I started giving him a little wet food (yuck) on the side as a treat. Well, that has become kitty crack to him to the point where he refuses to even glance in the direction of his normal dry food and he follows me into the kitchen whenever I’m in there screaming and yelling and cussing at me to give him his fix NOW! Anyway, I’m going to resolve to stop giving in to him and get him back on his dry food diet. This will be extremely difficult as he is completely adorable and just has to look at me right. Then, when we’re in the kitchen, he begins to purr REALLY LOUD in anticipation of his stank food and of course, *sigh* I give in. I’m completely wrapped and I’m enabling him. I may need to call for an intervention here.

  78. Teresa says:

@Queen of Dork  I know what you need to do  Feed your kitty like we feed our 3 kitties  with a bowl of wet food and a rectangle-shaped black container for their dry food  Both containers are side-by-side  Keeps the YOWLING down  Results in LOUD PURRING

  79. Paunchie says:

Q of D maybe your mr. thunderbutt might lose a little weight then, iff’n he don’t like his dry food! I would still give the critter just a bit of wet food, morning and night, and leave dry kibble out if he’s STARVING while you’re at work. Poor kittaye! Bad mommy’s STARVING heem!

  80. Queen of Dork says:

Thanks Teresa and Paunchie! Teresa, I’ve tried the side by side thing but he’s so stubborn he won’t eat his dry food if there’s even a thought that he might get some wet food. I guess I’ll just cut him off of the wet food until he’s hungry enough to eat the dry stuff. He won’t starve to death. He’s just being such a butt head. And he’s driving me nuts. But I do love him so!

  81. Emmberrann says:

Y’know, That Toonces thing just zoomed into my head, too! (Wonder why.) So: “Mo-o-o-m, Toonces isn’t letting me have a turn, and I have my driving permit, too, and he doesn’t!”
*Deep in thought* (“Hmm. Is that a bird I can reach from here?”) *Aloud* “Eck-eck-eck.”
“Is that a squirrel over there? Can this thing go faster so we can get to it? Huh? Huh?”
    “Look, Ma, no claws!”
HNY to all, and to all a good year.

  82. Paunchie says:

eck-eck-eck! I know that sound!

  83. Teresa says:

@Queen of Dork :) I forgot to add that we also have a large 8-sided glass bowl full of nice cold water besides the food bowls :)

  84. Teresa says:

@Queen of Dork :D Yeah, kitties can be “butt heads” :D I also agree with you that we all love them so even when they drive us nuts or act like butt heads :D
