Meep! They’re nakey!
Nakey and not the slightest bit embarrassed about it!
The one on the right looks like it’s wearing a tu-tu!
Tu-Tu cute! (groan) *ducks as people chuck rotten fruit*
On the other hand, they apparently live in a lovely doghouse.
Smiley pups!
Definitely cute, no if, ands or ‘tocks about it!
we need “tongue-hance” here!!
Hurrah for freshly groomed puppy ‘tocks!
Dude, don’t freak out but… YOU FORGOT TO PUT ON PANTS!!!!
OMG…I love Awkward Family Photos! My favorite blog site mentioning my other favorite blog site – yeah!
They seem to be smirking and enjoying showing off their new ‘do, esp. with the goofy grin on the dog on right. cute, through!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who uses the word “nakey.”
“we’re lions.. RAWR!!”
Ahhh, these comments made me laugh! *wipes tears from eyes* “Nakey.” HAHAHA! Good times.
We all have our styles that we look back at and wonder “what was i thinking?” It’s just a bummer when it ends up as a passport photo or your parents get a hold of it.
American Eskimoes or Poms? They look like my eskie name Kujo and he would never be caught cut like that…
I prefer “nekkid” myself.
*SNIFF* clearly someone didn’t get the fashion memo, no white after Labor Day.
Wait, is that even true any more? LOL not that I’d follow it.
Our Pom, Renee is the carbon copy of these guys, only she’s needing a shave & grooming, right now she looks like a little black tumbleweed.
PS Nekkid nekkid nekkid!
LOLL! Poor babies they are going to get cold toochis!
Stark raving naked! Naked as jaybirds!
Awwww, Pommies with lion cuts. These little rascals are simply adorable. I lost my little Bubba to congestive heart failure September 30. These precious scamps make me smile. We must get another, because once a Pommie owns you, you must always let a Pommie own you. They are unique in doggiedom, indeed, they are unique amongst God’s creatures. Put some leggings on those babies..
They look pretty darned pleased with themselves!
It must be their summer haircut — but it’s not summer anymore.
Nakey nakey nakey! That’s exactly what I said when my niece was a toddler and she’d run around the house nakey and giggling her haid off. Adorable.
And, NICE TOCKS!
those are proud dogs even when they are naked lol
@Theresa:
” “Naked” means you ain’t got no clothes on. “Nekkid” means you ain’t got no clothes on and you’re up to somethin’.”
@danbenZvi Well those pommies are definately Nekkid!
@ Becky (((hugs))). It’s tough to lose a furbaby. They bring us so much joy, even when they’re gone ahead of us. My house was not complete till we got another dog after having to let go of our two toy poodles. Now our ‘Ben’ makes me laugh every day. He’s such a silly goof, and such good company!
MANY hugs for Becky.
I second the motion by Andi from NC for a tongue-hance!
These pommmmmmies are just adorable!
Nekkid is what these spec-tockular pups are! Wonder if they have treed their barber?
YAY! Now the can’t regulate their body temperature!! That is cute!!!
[They're dogs, genius, not lizards.
- Ed.]
Fabulous scrolldown surprise. Love the pommies.
Sorry, this is just wrong . . .
Their fun insulates them. Do you own one?
Sugar, how do you know these don’t live in Florida where it’s hot all the time?????
Jump to conclusions much?
Hurley and Preston enjoy their stay, at the Sunnyside naturist club.
They aren’t nakey! They left their socks on!
Oh Becky, I’m so sorry! Losing a pet (I was about to write “beloved pet” but that goes without saying) is just the hardest thing! I hope you find a new Pommie to love and cherish because I’d bet anything it’s what Bubba would have wanted. *hugs*
if i ever mention doing this to my poms beautiful coat, punch me square in the nose.
these dogs have long hair for a reason people!! if you want a short haired dog, get a beagle.
Why, why, *why*??! Poor things.
ok– awkward family photos & haircuts– got it.
The Pommies are adorable; I thought “Smiling” but a Commenter above got there, before I did so more power to ya!
From the Awkward Thomas Family Photo Album is the ALLTIME BEST (of the Thomases’ awkward ones, anyway). Approx 1977; St. Wonder’s “Songs in the key of Life” brand-new in the stores. Many many persons of dark hued-skin are wearing …puffy hair– even the Qback in our HS Varsity Football team had the biggest ‘Fro in town ….my white geek brother was wearin a fro. In our family, we pride ourselves on having Bad Hair Days, even as we leave the Hair Salon, with all kinds of Hair Products taming it. Well…Dad’s a Navy Captain (QUICK CUT THAT HAIR IT’s an inch long !!!!!!)…..Mom decided that if we were gonna take an Official Family Snapshot (Steve was in town from Texas) that she had to take corrective action on Bruce’s ‘Fro.
Ergo: 7 white people lined up in a grassy backyard in VA; one of whom strongly resembled Bozo the Clown minus bright facial makeup. Mom very determinedly created a part — not unlike a crevice in the Grand Canyon; into Bruce’s 5-inch
‘Fro. It looks *Goofier than Goofy*. Please note –This description is not at all embellished. Even the part about the HS Q’back’s “Fro
Signed,
I Still have the snapshot in my photos
(If I were more clever w/ images & computers, I’d screen
it & download or whatever it)
*sneaks in & beeps each nose 2x before grabbing shavings*
Got to weave a life raft to float on down Win River, and got 2 weave a Kleenex for the Big Sneeze.
Also must mention, when our Renee adopted us, we didn’t choose to be a part of her family for her long hair or breed, it was her personality that won us over. And I can say that she is a much happier doggie when her coat is shaved down. We love having her in our family but cannot afford the cost of professional groomers (Dog Grooming Class @ our local community education center FTW) nor do we have the extra time for grooming her ourselves. She gets lots of love, cuddles, and attention, as is her due and she is a happy dog. I wouldn’t change a thing, right down to the beautiful lion cut of her own.
Well… at least they’re happy. Right?
*averts eyes
@kellie
Maybe they had knots in their fur that needed shaving to get out. Or they live in a warm climate and have to get a hair cut every now and then to keep them comfortable. Two gorgeous well groomed dogs like that obviously don’t have callous owners who don’t do what is best for them.
My childhood long haired cat, Woolly, once had to be shaved because he wouldn’t let us brush his belly, and some bad knots developed. It was summer, so the vet said the least painful thing to do was to shave him. He looked like a lion for a long time!
I miss Woolly sometimes.
Wait, wait, wait! I have the perfect response for this photo!!!
*ahem*
Oh that POOR HELPLESS animal It OBVIOUSLY leads a life of MISERY and SORROW which I can CLEARLY tell from just ONE PICTURE sniffity snurf waaaahhh…
Put some pants on ladies!
Pricey little cuts for those without experience at the groomers.
By the way, don’t worry about cold weather. I see a palm tree in the background.
Thank you Wend, Saffron and Rachel for your kindness. It means a whole lot to know people understand.
Still, these little sweethearts just make my heart burst with their cuteness. Sure they could use some long johns, but for a hot summer, the styling is pretty neat! Perhaps they had impossible burrs. Bubba was like that a lot when he was young because he scampered where he shouldn’t have scampered. One time I found him in the middle of a neighbor’s compost bin after he’d escaped from me.
@ dramallamaorama
the pomeranian’s double-coat is designed to keep them cool in warm weather AND keep them warm in cold weather. cutting the hair in warm weather can actually cause more damage than good, because the undercoat keeps the cool air in, the same as it keeps warm air in during the winter.
just sayin’ ..
@AuntieMame
“insulating” keeps cool air in during the summer, the same as it keeps warm air in during the winter. one of the many reasons this breed, like all “spitz-type” dogs have a heavy double coat. please see my above comment.
thx.
Ruining beautiful double coat, much? The ignorance..
Kellie, while that is certainly true, there comes a point when “hot” is just plain hot, no matter how much insulation you may or may not have.
The point really is that there are all kinds of a legitimate reasons for these pet owners to have shaved their dogs, and making judgmental comments about how wrong and ignorant they are (KatieZientek) really says more about the poster than it does about the pet parents.
Ok. That’s enough. Listen, I am not going to be insulted for how I take care of my pet when said pet is happy and healthy. Please note those words, HAPPY and HEALTHY. I do not go to your house and insult you for having a full coated Pom (if you own one), and I do not insult the photos of full coated Poms wherever they appear. So shut the heck up. You do not have the right to judge me or other owners of pets who are HAPPY AND HEALTHY as these two clearly are. There are reasons enough that they may have been shaved (sometimes even vet endorsed) and YOU DO NOT KNOW THOSE REASONS, so do not assume they (and by extension ME) are stupid or ignorant people.
*and to the Mods, please feel free to delete, I just had to blow my top for a second there.
i wasn’t insulting anyone .. i was just giving my opinion where i wanted to (because it’s my opinion) and was correcting certain comments where i thought they needed correcting.
i wasn’t saying that the dogs don’t look happy and healthy, because you can tell just by the looks on their faces that they’re happy .. and they’re no doubt healthy dogs too.
unfortunately, when you post a photo to a public blog or message board, you’re sort of giving permission to anyone and everyone to say what they want.
i posted photos of a baby bunny that i found outside of it’s nest, that i was holding and i got accused of everything short of ripping it from it’s mothers teet and that it was going to die when i put it back. *shrugs* ignorance runs amock on the internet .. there’s nothing you can do about it.
[Sure there is. You can make an effort not to add to it. - Ed.]
For the record, kellie, I did not find your posts to be insulting. You were, as you say, simply providing information that you thought was relevant to the topic at hand.
If everyone restricted themselves to doing the same, these spitting matches wouldn’t occur.
It’s the ones who feel the need to make ugly personal comments along with their opinions that pour gasoline on the flames.
Also don’t forget that this isn’t “public” in the classic sense. Cute Overload is not a governmental or municipal entity, it’s an LLC. Commenting here is a privilege, not a right.
@Kellie Yeah actually I do need to clarify that, I wasn’t refering to your comments so much as the ones who were insulting, KatieZientek to name a one. I took that particular last comment personally because I do own a Pom and another long haired double coat dog (Keeshond) that for reasons I shouldn’t have to defend we shave a couple of times a year. But like I said they’re happy and healthy. And the above doggies look happy and healthy. So I got upset at the very thinly veiled and outright insults by KatieZientek and a couple of others.
So Kellie I do apologize that you got caught in my top blowing, I did recognize that you were politely responding to comments of others, but was too upset at the time to acknowledge it.
no worries. again, i was just providing my opinions.
i also have a pomeranian .. but, i love his long coat. even though i brush and bathe him frequently, give him very high quality food (Evo Red Meat), he sheds like crazy and i’m always pulling fur out of my cheerios, but i’d never shave him!! to each his own. like you said, all that matters is that they’re happy and healthy. who cares if they’re embarrassed to be seen in public and walk with their tail between their legs, right?
LOL
embarrassed to be seen in public? Oh no, not our Renee.
She is proud of herself no matter the state of her coat. And she’ll let you know that you should be honored for even being in her presence. Oh, and woe betide any jetliner flying too low over HER airspace. That’s how proud she is of herself, shaven or mini black tumbleweed (as she is right now).
hahah .. i think that’s just a pomeranian for you. mine has a little bit of an “greater than thou” attitude too. he thinks he’s so tough. he’ll bark and bark at a big dog coming his way, but as soon as it gets close enough to sniff, he’s hiding behind me. he’s so cute .. it drives me nuts.
what is a mini back tumbleweed??? got photos?
this convo would be easier to continue via email .. shoot me an email instead of responding here. kelliealtieri AT gmail DOT com
I enjoyed reading this post as it covers a similar topic I recently talked about on my dog blog
@ alan seat .. can i have the link, please!
Ok guys – for all ya’ll that are all upset about the shaving – I have a boy Pom & he LOVES it! We live in FL and it’s verrry hot like all the time, so in the summer I get him a little lion cut & he LOVES it! He prances around to show of his new ‘do and lays his ‘nekkid’ belly right on the tile… It grows back in like 6 weeks – it’s just fur guys – don’t freak out so much
