I’m highly suspicious of that acorn cap on his head.
However, I agree that it is a Southern Flying Squirrel and that while they are terribly cute to look at, they are pretty nasty individuals when you handle the wild ones. I had one bite through two layers of leather and put a nice dent in my thumbnail.
However, they also make great pets, like sugar gliders.
it should be mandatory for all squirrels to wear such adorable headgear.

Yeah, my mom’s boyfriend has two flying squirrels. Since they were raised from… pups? kits? squirrelets? They’re tame and sweet and adorable and love people. On the whole, much more entertaining than my friend’s sugar glider, who smells funny and hates everything except Cheerios.
