My fiance actually sings this around me, which I thought was cute…for a while To make it worse, there’s actually a competing state song that’s even cheesier.

Per Discovery Channel doc. – this is their way of greeting, identifying
family/extended family members, etc. by touching teeth. But it’s still

I live in a suburb of London called Thornton Heath, we don’t have a son, neither does the county it’s in, Surrey (as far as I know). So I have written one.

Thornton Heath oh Thornton Heath, it’s with relief I live there
The mighty hills the shady rills, with no Racoons or Bear there
nor snakes or bugs but many Pubs, we haven’t got a care there
The sea and sand, the Mountains grand,we’d worship if we had em
but as it is, I think it tis, inhabited by madmen.

Loving the state song tangent. I’m from ol’ Idaho, which has this ‘gem’:

“You’ve heard of the wonders our land does possess, / It’s beautiful valleys and hills, / The majestic forests where nature abounds, / We love every nook and rill.”
(I remember asking my choir teacher back in grade school what a rill was when we learned this, and she didn’t know. I sang “nook and cranny” once and they weren’t amused.)
Chorus: “And here we have Idaho / Winning her way to fame. / Silver and gold in the sunlight blaze, / and romance lies in her name. / Singing, we’re singing of you, /
Ah, proudly too, all our lives thru, we’ll go / Singing, singing of you, singing of Idaho.”
2nd verse, worse than the first:
“There’s truly one state in this great land of ours / Where ideals can be realized. / The pioneers made it so for you and me, / A legacy we’ll always prize.”
