Cornstarch: It’s a Hell of a Drug

Says snorter-inner Claire K.: “I have a 3 ½ month old kitten named Pepper. He’s still in the kitten stage of thinking that everything that moves is a toy for him to play with.”

“Last week my sister, Brigid, was baking in the kitchen when a bowl of cornstarch fell off the counter. Pepper immediately dove into it! Brigid got some great photos and then set to the task of cleaning the floor and Pepper.”

  1. Oh, man. This makes me want to go home and dump corn starch on the floor for my kitties.

  2. Jess&Friends says:

Yay! Does that mean we can haz kittehcakes? Or are we making kitteh nuggets? Imagine what would have happened if he had gotten into sugar instead! Woah!

  3. binkymama says:

Of course it’s a black kitteh….if it had been a spilled bucket of black paint it would have been a white kitteh. Such are the laws of teh universe. :P

    love the white cornstarch ‘stache

  4. Should rename him Kilo McSnorter…….

  5. That 2nd pic, that is a look of satisfaction of a job well done.

I thought i said NO starch in teh kitteh! grumblegrumble dry cleaners these days….

(passes out party hats & blowers & goodie bags)
Tis mah birthday so it must be Pepper is baking me a cake! :-D

  6. i love the first pic…

he’s all like “what? this isn’t mine, i’m holding it for a friend”

  7. Cats are an addiction. We all knew it and now we have definitive proof.

Love how he’s just sitting there in the 2nd pic, acting like everything is completely normal and how it’s supposed to be.

  8. I admire a guy who knows how to have a good time on a small budget. That first pic is such a hoot! :)

  9. LOL No COrnstarch is for Pudding Puddytat Pudding.

    Happy Birfday METZ!!!
blows Glitter and cornstarch at Metz. and releases the ballons and Confetti

  10. Cute pictures with a cute story!

One of our cats likes to chew on corn starch packing peanuts. Naturally they dry out his mouth, so he makes interesting smacking noises as he works on the peanuts.

  11. Stunbunny says:

If your thing is gone and you wanna ride on; cocaine.
Don’t forget this fact, you can’t get it back; cocaine.
She don’t lie, she don’t lie, she don’t lie; cocaine.

  12. BeckyMonster says:

    Binkymama
I hear you about the “laws of the universe”, so what would a calico get all over them? Me thinks it would be some sort of paint, like purple or magenta!!

  13. catloveschanel says:

If you got bad news, you wanna kick them blues; cornstarch.
When your day is done and you wanna run; cornstarch.
She dont lie, she dont lie, she dont lie; cornstarch.
(this is the salt-n-peppa Version) *snort*
    Happy birthday Metz

  14. Sure it’s cornstarch… are his eyes crossing in the first pic??? that’s some good ‘starch.

  15. John DeLorean unavailable to comment.

  16. EEEEK! This is so much like when my Stinky got into the cocoa! He was a black and white cat, and he knocked the cocoa over and rolled around in it. He was suddenly a calico!!

  17. Happy Burpday, Metz!! It’s a Burpday, because if you eat as much as you’re supposed to, you’ll burp.

  18. A calico cat can shed where she wants, so can she be covered in what ever she wants?

  19. AuntieMame says:

You can tell a true pet lover when the first reaction to a mess like this is to grab the camera, and not the paper towels! :D

  20. I once had a black foster kitty who rolled around in powdered sugar from donuts that ended up on the floor somehow. She looked so mellow that we later tried valerian root for her. She’s the only one of our cats or fosters who has reacted to it.

  21. AuntieMame says:

Oh, and P.S. Happy Birthday Metz!!!1!

  22. Happy Brifday Metz!!!

  23. skippymom says:

I just phoned home and asked my calico, and she said that the preferred rolling-around-on-the-kitchen-floor-getting-messy substance for the calico tribe is bright red tandoori powder.

    Happy Birthday, Metz!

  24. This makes me want another kitten.

  25. very nice pictures and lovely cat !!!

  26. Thanks everbunny! I’m having a good bday so far,
brought in donuts & coffee for the office
this morning and a coworker with the same bday is sharing
ice cream sundaes in the afternoon.
    life is yummeh!

BTW: Thank you cute overlords for teh kittn pic,
I was hopin’ and prayin’ for a kittn pic 2day. :-D

  27. When I saw the first pic, I thought it was just a tuxie with weird spots until I read the caption.

I grew up hearing the story about the time when I was a toddler and put talcum powder on the cat because it was summer and I thought he looked hot.

  28. Whereas a grownup kitteh would be busy frantically cleaning it off, I love how in the second pic kitteh is just hanging out in his cornstarch glory…

  29. Kristabelle says:

Happy birthday, Metz! Glad you’re having a great day!

Kitteh looks very satisfied in the 2nd photo. Job. Well. Done.

  30. skippymom says:

They tried to make him go to ‘StarchHab, but he said, Nyerhe, nyerhe, nyerhe!
(I can’t be the first one to have thought of this?)

  31. mmm…kitteh gravy thickener…or pudding!

  32. I have heard cornstarch is good for cleaning things–not sure about a black cat though.

  33. I once had a goofy black cat named Pepper (changed to Pooper thanks to his shenanigans) , 10 years ago this could have been him! Adorable.

  34. skippymom says:

I think the cornstarch company should put a picture of Pepper on the box instead of that weird corn goddess lady. I’m sure sales would go up immediately. People might not know what to do with cornstarch, but when they saw the kitty they would damn well know that they needed some.

  35. BeckyMonster says:

    claudia
I should have changed my kitteh’s name from Pickles to Pukels, for the very same reason!

Happy Birthday Metz! Wish I worked in your office!

  36. OOOOH!! I just want to eeet him up! Brigid should make some kittencupcakes asap.

  37. Kitteh says “I’m Rick James, bitch!”

  38. 260Oakely says:

    Shake ‘n Bake
    crispy kitten coating

  39. @Binkymama – speaking of laws of universe, how come when you get dust on your cloth, if the cloth is white the dusty parts appear as black, but if the cloth is dark the dusty parts appear as white?

  40. And how come when we human get dust on ourselves we become dirty, but chinchillas bath in them to get themselves clean?

/it’s an afternoon of imponderables for me.

  41. Not That Mike The Other Mike says:

On the subject of kittens and baking products, there’s never a bad time to watch “Feed The Kitty.”

  42. victoreia says:

[sigh] I love that little guy!

    NTMTOM, you rock!

  43. Marc Antony!!! With the painfully cute kitteh and the high-heeled mistress!

  44. NOMTOM, I *love* all of that cartoon, especially the expression on the mouse’s face when he’s dumped on Marc’s back. “Wut?”

  45. BeckyMonster says:

It has been a million years since I saw a Merry Melodies cartoon. Blast from the past, how delightful!!!

  46. When I first saw the subject title I thought the kitteh’s name is Cornstarch.

  47. Kitteh says, “My work here is done.”

  48. I love how serious and dignified he looks. “Cornstarch? What cornstarch?”

  49. Nancy (orig) says:

Mike, ya know who’s cute? You’re cute! I’ve got co as a google widgit and only could see the caption. I knew it was going to be you and it was going to be good!

  50. OMG how cute he looks just like my Truffles who used to get up to all sorts of naughty things when she was a kitten.
    Here she is on mycathatesyou.com – http://www.mycathatesyou.com/cats/search/truffles/4225

  51. Personally I’m partial to the cornstarch goatee in the first pic : )

  52. I swear your pictures hurt my face…from smilin!

  53. Cornstarch Blues
Early one mornin’ while makin’ the rounds
I took a shot of cornstarch and I tore some curtains down.
I went right home and I went to bed. I stuck those paws with those sharp claws beneath my head

Got up next mornin’ and I glimpsed that sun. Took a shot of cornstarch and away I run
Made a good run but I run too slow they overtook me down in Juarez Mexico….

  54. haha, very casual

  55. Hehe! That is all! :p

  56. Looks just like my 3 1/2 week old “LiL Bit” (cause she’s always in a little bit of trouble).

  57. Leslie (NTA) says:

    @NTMTOM:

is this your way of letting us know, that you were actually employed @ Merrie Melodies in the 40s??? Or was that, The Other Mike?
And how parfait, that you found a bit w/ a black kitayn causing nonsense & mayhem with white cooking matter, to associate w/ the CO picture post item!!!

    Bravo, sir, Bravo!

  58. Leslie (NTA) says:

PS: is the Bulldog in the cartoon, the same one who was taking his nap with his comforting stuffie-toy Bulldog, from the other day?

  59. I love the first picture! The sheer look of, “OMG…you caught me” is priceless.

  60. Not that I'm suggesting this is 'shopped says:

NTMTOM you are right. There’s never a bad time to watch the kitteh baking cartoon. It reminds me of me and my kitteh, I’m “Marc Anthony” and she climbs on top of me to sleep. Love kittehs.. and puppehs.. and everyone.

  61. Fluffybutt- thanks for posting a picture of Truffles! I have a cat that I adopted as an adult, and I always wondered what he may have looked like as a kitten- so far Truffles looks the most like him! I knew he would have been a cute little bean! Truffles is adorable! And I really love Pepper! Squee!!!!!

  62. NTMTOM, I used to LOVE that cartoon! In fact, I just seeing the thumbnail got me all nostalgic and smiley. You, sir, are a Pup-Culture Savant. (And the Marty Feldman eyes crack was dead on.)

  63. NTMTOM, why is it that when I read the title of this post, I heard Rick James in my head? Someone’s a Dave Chapelle fan I think! Oh, and adorable kitteh, love the “I haven’t been snorting your cornstarch stash!” (say that ten times really fast) -look on his face.

  64. gravyboat says:

    That kitteh is JACKED!

  65. Oh man  LOL  The first picture is the “What?” look  and the second picture is the “Yeah, yeah, I know. I am in BIG trouble.”

  66. I mean the rofl not

  67. Arrgh I mean :)) instead of rofl and

  68. How do I do a “ROFL” emotion?

  69. When i first got Scarlett, I didn’t want her on the counters (I’ve lost that fight looooong ago). But, since I was gone during the day, I didn’t know if she got on them or not. So, I left a light sprinkling of flour on the countertops for evidence. When I got home, the countertops were clean and the dark brown carpeting in the rest of the apartment was covered in little white pawprints. She was quite the busy kitten that day by all the tracks!

  70. In that second pic Pepper looks soooo laid back. Can’t tell for sure, but it looks like Pepper’s paws may be crossed.

  71. And then he cornstarched the couch.

  72. Am I the only one who thinks this kitteh is lying about his age?

  73. dude. his eyes are totally pointing in different directions in the first one.

  74. My black kitty is also called Pepper, though we call her Peps or Pepito for short. :) She’s not had a flour experience but one of my others have.

  75. My son swears that all black kitty’s have the best personality’s…….he has two, I think he’s right……the face on this baby tells it all! I love it!

  76. Umm, aren’t the “kittens” and “naughtiness” tags redundant? Like there are actually some well behaved kittens out there? I think not. :)

  77. Rule #32!! Plus, he gets extra points of Cute from me because he’s a black kitteh.

  78. Nancy (orig) says:

    …it don’t lie, cornstarch.

  79. Wasnt me! (2nd photo)

  80. lemur eyes in the first pic…

  81. chickadee022 says:

OMG!!!! I have been dying for a black kitteh and this just confirms why! Sooo cute and naughty.

  82. bookmonstercats says:

Pepper has something of the Dali Lama’s serenity about him in the second pic.

Hmmmmm…. thinks I may look at the Dali Lama differently next time I see him (or a piccy of him anyway).

  83. Like a cute version of Scarface.

  84. Cornstarch…it’s a gateway drug. Doesn’t the kitteh know that it will eventually lead to a serious box addiction?

[Dunno; I think it’s more likely to lead to the harder starches. – Ed.]

  85. AuntieMame says:

Appropriately enough, today’s CO calendar page is Rule #32!

  86. metz, are you european?
his little smugness expression says: cornstarch? yeah, so?
and that kyoot goatee. makes me want to go hame ans scatter some flour for my chloe. shee beez a blk kitteh wid de wite pause. she b de kootest eber.

  89. Say ello to ma leetle fren!

  90. “Still in the kitten stage of thinking everything that moves is a toy for him to play with”– I can attest that this stage can last at least five years and counting. And I’m sure we wouldn’t have him any other way, she said while pounding her head on the desk….

  91. The cute black beast, can kill a human only with the eyes
