I just had this mental image of 2 hamsters under a street lamp in Paris on a foggy evening…fedora…now I have a daydream to get me to lunchtime.

2 debg 07.17.09 at 6:19 am

I’m reminded of that moment in Fellowship of the Ring, extended version, where the hobbit woman waits for her hobbit man to kiss her, but he spies some food in the distance. Yes, I’m an LOTR nerd.

3 Peg of Tilling 07.17.09 at 6:19 am

MWAH!

(Tip: don’t kiss furry friends while wearing lip gloss. Pfoo!)

4 kasey at thriftylittleblog 07.17.09 at 6:22 am

“hamster romance” ha!

5 EZReader 07.17.09 at 6:27 am

At the link, a photo of an adorable – honest! – slug. Belongs on CO, imo.

6 earlybird1 07.17.09 at 6:39 am

Wheeskers arch perfectly towards each other…

7 Piyo 07.17.09 at 6:39 am

The one on the right seems unsure, lol. Or confused. But so cute!!

This totally reminded me of this.

8 Kristabelle 07.17.09 at 6:48 am

Aww, what a sweet face!
Reminds me of the Little Mermaid song, Kiss the Girl.
“Go on an’ kees de’ girl…”

9 Lizzums 07.17.09 at 6:48 am

*thinks it’s a good thing there are no hamtaros on CO, whatever they are.

[You can kinda think of them like the Hello Kitty of the pocket-pet set - Ed.]

10 varekai97X 07.17.09 at 6:52 am

Guinea pig on the right is thinking “Do you mind? We’re trying to have a private moment here! Damn paparazzi!”

11 lauraewaddell 07.17.09 at 7:17 am

My first picture on Cute Overload! Yay! My hams are thrilled and all (four) of them will celebrate with pumpkin seeds.

Thank you =]

12 Kelsey 07.17.09 at 7:21 am

Ok, adorable. Mr. Ham look’s like he’s saying, “AHEM! Do you mind?!”

13 Elanor 07.17.09 at 7:36 am

Erm, Roborovski hamsters, NOT guinea peeegs. :X)

14 5^^now8ing 07.17.09 at 7:53 am

I second EZ’s nomination of teh slug for CO! (And Laura E’s caption for heem is ex-cellent!)

I shall kees you! (Hammie, not sluggie — slime’s worse than fur in yer lip gloss — pwhew)

15 pyrit 07.17.09 at 7:56 am

There’s a pucker born every minute.

16 LisaL 07.17.09 at 7:58 am

Rofl, it does look like the little hammy is waiting to be smooched! Don’t worry! I’ll smooch you!

17 rabs 07.17.09 at 8:02 am

19 Valerie 07.17.09 at 8:04 am

Sammy seez to Susie, Honey, would you please
Be my missus? Susie says Yes!
With her kisses……”

Ain’t love grand?

25 PJ 07.17.09 at 8:57 am

They’re communicating via whisker link, a hammies version of the Vulcan mind meld.

26 hadley 07.17.09 at 8:59 am

32 nismo 07.17.09 at 10:17 am

Robos! I loved my robo, no matter how much she pooped in my hand or nipped my hand when I tried to pick her up.

33 Nicholas 07.17.09 at 10:34 am

Sometimes, this is the face I imagine greeting me in heaven.

34 Andi from NC 07.17.09 at 10:47 am

The electricity is palpable!!!

“She pauses, eye closed, ever hopeful, scared and thrilled all at the same time…” and scene!!!

35 January 07.17.09 at 11:03 am

Ah, peeps, this is really special.

36 Lula Mae 07.17.09 at 11:28 am

Really special, I agree!

Hammieeees… courting hammieeees…
and their hearts beat so that they can hardly squeeeeek
and they find the flooffiness they seeek
when they’re dancing ‘pouche to ‘pouche

37 Alissa 07.17.09 at 11:36 am

Awww… I love how their whiskers are touching. Butterfly kisses?

38 Carolyn 07.17.09 at 11:38 am

39 serfer0 07.17.09 at 11:53 am

Love the perfect whisker arches!

42 Victoria S. 07.17.09 at 1:07 pm

The one on the left looks like he’s thinking, “Today was awesome! I had a carrot! Now I’m gonna go chew on a paper towel roll! Happy!”

What a sweet picture.

43 Valerie 07.17.09 at 1:12 pm

The little one probably fell asleep LOL

44 Leslie (NOT the author!) 07.17.09 at 1:15 pm

Goodness gracious, I’m not even a ham or GP-phile; yet the comments streamhere is particularly rich & provides lots o’ interesting paths: here are the Reader’s Digest versions of my thoughts:

1) re. Laura Eliz herrself:

a: re. her friend, the slug at beg of her webpage….er…..not so much, for me, at least…
(to *me*, it’s rather like the Gertrude Stein quote “A slug is a slug is a slug”. I’m aware, that this makes me hopelessly SpeciesIst & I have already scheduled myself for counseling on the matter, so please don’t anyone feel obligated to provide corrective instruction here. K?)
b: once you get past the *slug* (gulp); her wedding series has some wonderfully fun & colorful carnival shots which provide endorphins just from viewin….(at least, they did for me; maybe I haven’t been out enuff lately)

2) @ Piyo: Your webpage citation suggestion is indeed VERRY splendiferous . I’ll offer a checkmate/ enjoyable webpage for your consideration. It’s called “Engrish.com” & has *delightful, silly, happy * fun, with skewered JapEngrish langwidge & odd/ cute thinggies; ‘nuf said. . It’s very likely to be a HomeRun ferrr ya.

Go Forth & Giggle.

45 chanpon 07.17.09 at 1:59 pm

Oooh, wheeskers are touching!! That sounds so romantic!

46 Lauralee 07.17.09 at 2:26 pm

@ Kat

Science rules :)

51 kibblenibble 07.17.09 at 8:30 pm

I never saw hammies this color combination…they are beautiful! Like others have noted, I also find the meellions of whiskers and their perfect arching toward each other quite enchanting, as well as the “smooch me” expression. *Great* picture, fabulous PUXCO!

52 kibblenibble 07.17.09 at 8:31 pm

Oh yes, and the soft peenk nosies…divine!

53 Linh 07.17.09 at 9:33 pm

58 lauraewaddell 07.18.09 at 10:40 am

Ah no they’re all female actually!

59 5^^now8ing 07.18.09 at 10:42 am

Can’t decide whether I like the magnetic field metaphor or the mitosis (meiosis?) one better.

I would’ve said Qte + word nerds = CO, but apparently Qte + science nerds is also valid. (There’s a transitive property in there somewhere, I think.)

60 Serena 07.18.09 at 10:54 am

I LOVE THIS!

61 Lisa M. 07.18.09 at 11:18 am

The little whiskers are touching together, looks like cell division:)

62 Lula Mae 07.18.09 at 12:29 pm

Peeps, gather together to calculate the magnetic fluffiness of one hammie near a superconductive cage by the method of mirror hammies!

The idea of Hamsters reproducing by budding off is also very interesting, though…

63 Joy 07.18.09 at 1:44 pm

I keep dwarf hammies as pets and I love this picture. These two hammies are priceless. Makes me want to go out and get more.

64 pistache268 07.19.09 at 11:15 am

I’m totally feeling the whisker formation creating some kind of vortex of cute.

65 izvet 07.21.09 at 3:26 am

Thanks a lot
