One Wife’s Private Torment

I’d heard about them on “Oprah,” and some of the girls down at Marcelle’s Salon made jokes about them, but nothing prepared me for the day my husband told me he was … a plushie.

“It’s just something I have to do,” he said, “it’s part of who I am.”  I tried to accept it, but the thought of Bob fantasizing about plush animals, even dressing up as one?  It all seemed so weird.  But with patience and counseling, we worked past our pain, and now our marriage is stronger than ever.

  2. temperance says:

i’ve always wanted to dress up as a ‘furry’ for halloween. what could be scarier?

  3. LOL! Plushie acceptance is important. :D

  4. 260Oakley says:

But Mary, what about that stash of “CottonTails” he keeps under the mattress?

  5. chanpon says:

Mary’s dejected ears say it all. *weep*

  6. Lucy's Mommeh says:

    OMG, the eyes!, the eyes!
    I wanna hug da bunny!

  7. “Marcelle’s Salon” is so obviously an invention. Everybody knows that real hair salons MUST have PUNS in their names, like “Curl Up and Dye” and “Hair It Is.”

[...or "Kropps & Bobbers" - Ed.]

  8. @ Theresa…

How about ‘A Cut Above’? Or ‘A Snip in Time…’? Or ‘Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow’?!?!

  9. @Ellie, I don’t anticipate much business for that last one. But the others are all good. My favorite one was one I saw in the ’90s called “Whoomp! Hair It Is!”

  10. kibblenibble says:

Do I see another plushie to the left? BTW Theresa, long ago, when I was a hairdresser, I worked at Hair We Are.

  11. You’re no bunny, ’til some bunny loves you.

  12. Lerrinus says:

Awww, cute bun-bun! “Hare do you do?” :-)

  13. janet2buns says:

We interrupt this post for a public service announcement:
“The bunny on the left is an Easter gift. The bunny on the right is a lifetime commitment.”
Now, back to our regularly scheduled post….

    “Squeeeeeeeeee!!!!!”

  14. BUNNY’d!!! *drops to floor*

  15. Just had to add in my favorite bad salon name, courtesy of The Simpsons: “Turn Your Head and Coif.”

  16. Charlene says:

    Didn’t she question the dress?

  17. How ’bout a ‘Forbeedeen Love’ sub-category to inter-species-osity:
bun and plush bun; fawn and lynx; nuffer and CO’er; moose and, um, almost anything…

  18. god, these scene happened in someone’s house? where are the delectable, kissy bun-buns in my house???

  19. bun-tays. we call them buntays in our house. cute lil buntays wit the softy noses and everfing. so sweet!

  20. E.A. McCrary says:

But ‘Marcelle’s Salon’ fits right in already:

“The Marcel Wave (sometimes spelt Marcelle) is a stylish wave given to the hair by means of heated curling irons. Named for Francois Marcel, 19th century French hairdresser who invented the process in 1872. It revolutionized the art of hairdressing all over the world and remained in vogue for over fifty years, making a fortune for Mr Marcel.”

    It’s that back-and-forth bobbed-hair wave you see on 1920’s flappers…

Rest of the story is at

  21. chickadee022 says:

Awwww love the bunnehs and the caption is hilarious! LOL

  22. awwwwwwwwwwww mary is soooooooooo cute! :)

  23. Plush fetishes are real, and they ain’t that cute.

Damn you internet for those images that I can’t ever un-see.

  24. Jezebel says:

Is that the cutest baby bunny?! In the history of the world?!

  25. lolz >_<

  26. Aww! Cutest bunny ever!
Uh, can I have this picture in desktop size? please?? 1680 x 1050 pretty please???

  27. Some more names, now that I think of them:
    Julius Scissor’s
    Shear Delight\Shear Genius
    Mane Event

  28. I just realized I need plushness reassignment surgery, so I can look on the outside how I feel on the inside! Plus then everyone will want to snorgle me!

  29. Aw, such a cute little bunny (love the ears!) Mwah! Kiss for you ^_^.

  30. The actual term is “Furry” and they just had their annual convention, Anthrocon.

[Yeah, well, I think we'll let folks split those hairs on their own time... - Ed.]

  31. SoCalSis says:

Can we open up the floor to clever names of dog grooming salons too?? My favorite: ‘Doggie Style’– successfully styling those doggies at least 20 years now, practically a neighborhood institution!

*yeah, well, I figured any discussion including furries can’t be all that prim and proper*

  32. Actually there are two distinct fetishes involving fuzzy animals – Furries dress up as stuffed animals and, um, “play” with each other, while Plushies “play” with actual stuffed animals. What a world. :)

  33. Mary (the first) says:

My ex-husband was named Bob. I was never sure what happened.. maybe this is our story as recreated on “Lifetime”. But I also wonder, as does Charlene, didn’t Mary wonder about the dress he’s wearing?

  34. jess e. –Did your post just contribute to said world?

  35. kibblenibble,

shouldn’t the name be Hare We Are?

  36. My beloved and much-missed rabbit had a large cuddly bear. He would go curl up next to it when the world was bothering him. He’d even groom him. He’d tear apart paper, he’d chew through walls, he’d bite my bum if he thought I was in the way, but he treated that bear like a best friend. Maybe we just all really need a teddy bear…

  37. Anon - y Mous says:

This is in the Top 10 Cutest Images on CO. In my book, anyway.

  38. Leslie (NOT the author!) says:

    ….another in a continuing series of “what about…” suggestions…

Does COverload maintain a policy of maximum Tags? ‘Cuz I do see that y’all comprehensively attached several; however: wha’ about ….

    Matchingks?????

    Shouldn’t that be “hares” LOL

And why is Bob wearing a dress?

  41. “The Grateful Head” is 1/2 block from my house. *groan* Also, my brother goes to an Irish-owned barber called “Shear Irish.”

    & :-)

  43. Neopatra says:

    “Snips and Giggles”

  44. Actually, I’d like to have lunch with the person who thought up “The Grateful Head”.

Now, I didn’t know about the difference between the two groups of animal enthusiasts, so yes, jess.e’s number 33 comment did improve the world, I will not mistake one for the other. Oh, dear……..

  45. @5^^now8ing: You win!

  46. danielie says:

You can just see the love in Mary’s eyes. ;) Too adorable for words!

  47. 5^^now8ing says:

    What do I win?!

    Eagerly awaiting her “major prize”!

  48. Cute bunbun!!!

Bunbun to stuffed bun: Look in to my eyes bebeh

  49. There are salons here in Toronto called “Space Haircraft,” “Hairstory,” and “Hair ‘n’ After.” None of those makes much sense, but they all seem to be reaching sort of drunkenly and halfheartedly for puns that are just beyond arm’s length.

  50. Argyle Donkeypants says:

I learned about plushies during an episode of “CSI” a few years ago. And who says ya can’t learn anything from TV?

  51. Paunchie says:

Poor baby bun ~ she looks like she has unrequited love in her eyes! AWW.

  52. googlie eyes says:
  53. the real bunny is looking at the plush like she’s trying to say ” Honey it can’t b true it cant b…” lol

  54. Noelegy says:

There are others. Those were just the ones that stood out. I’ve had my hair cut and colored at Hair By Bogey before.

  55. I’m trying to figure out what the white thing between the two bunnies is… It doesn’t look like it is part of either bunny…..

    Oh, and: Cutest Pic Evar!

  56. this “white thing between the bunnies” that u mentioned katie is prob just the lighting against their fur

  57. omg the bunny look so sadddddddddddddddddddddddd

  58. 5^^now8ing says:

    @ googlie eyes! LOLLLL!

    (I mean, I humbly accept)

(guess you’d *hafta* be humble to accept *that* prize!)

  59. 5^^now8ing says:

    @ Noelegy – so you don’t have a life, either? ;-)

(*And* you’re just down the pike from us!)

  60. chanpon says:

And here I thought I was just living in a pun-challenged city (or I was living under a rock, never having visited a pun-worthy salon). Lo and behold, some hair dressers in Boston include Hair After and Hairport. Honorable mention to “Girlfriend Hook Me Up!” Even with no pun – that’s possibly one of the best names for any business I’ve heard, not just for salons.

  61. aww so cute-sweet.

    Renate :-)

  62. That is so precious!

  63. kibblenibble says:

SoCal Sis: A dog groomimng salon in my neighborhood is called Tails of the City.

  64. kibblenibble says:

    “groomimng” *slinks away, ashamed*

  65. kibblenibble says:

Katie: I believe the white thing to which you are referring is the plushie bunny’s muzzlepowsh. Look at the plushie in the background at left to see what I mean.

  66. I can deal with furries, but plushies? I don’t get it.

    I love that pic though.

  67. 5^^now8ing says:

@Katrina – Did you see the sweet post from the other “Katrina” (now “Kat”) at the end of the Archie’s Sleeping Posishes post?

It’s proven again and again — CO peeps are the best!

(Can toddle off to bed now in happy-overloaded state….)

  68. My current hair stylist owns a small salon called Split Endz, and for years I went to a salon in Brandon, Mb called Hair Today.

    Love the pic.

  69. oh
    my
    god

    SQUEEEE

  70. Noelegy says:

5^^now8ing, nope, no life, at least not today. Too hot to go outside! :)

  71. My dog’s groomer is called Laundermutt :)

    [That's beautiful. :D - Ed.]

  72. This ones stayin in my desktop for a while…..Did anyone mention Hair Art Thou?

  73. Lula Mae says:

Look at this poor faithful bunny named Mary
who finds her husbun’s tendencies scary
He goes to the hare salon
    puts colored dresses on
and body suits made out of terry

  74. Starlinguk says:

We were talking about the subject of hairdressing shop puns the other day, and someone said “I live in Effing. No fuss with puns here, my barber is just called “The Effing barber”.

  75. Leslie (NOT the author!) says:

Here in Jax there’s a hair salon called “Hair. Peace.” ;)

(oh — and, they’re actually really good stylists, as well as the kyoot name).

  76. Thanks kibblenibble, it *all* makes sense now….

Also, my mom used to go to a hair salon named “Hair Force One”…. *groan*…..

  77. Love the fuzz and floppy ears. *Snorgle*

  78. Katrina says:

5^^now8ing -Thank you for pointing that out to me, I might very well have missed it otherwise. I thank Kat for her graciousness.

Noelogy- am I correct in remembering that Denton, TX is the world’s leading producer of Miss Americas? Well, that’s a lot of hair.

    Argyle Donkeypants-good gravy, you’re right!

  79. 5^^now8ing says:

Ur welcome, Katrina — those of us with no life can monitor these things. LOL! (Actually, I do *sometimes* have a life, but I’ve been here a lot lately ’cause I’s been sick.)

Noelegy – Yeah, Denton must be even hotter than here — ya know it’s gonna be awful when the overnight low is in the upper 70s — yuck! BTW, love your CO name — is your name Noelle? (Or Noel?)

  80. I get my hair cut at Hairachy in Concord, NH. Just in NH, here’s a smattering of salons – Rumors; Hair Factory; Sun, Moon + Stars Hair Salon; Hair Excitement; Not So Plain Jane’s Salon; Euphoria Salon; Hair Affair; Hair Station; Laurens Hair Obsession; Just Cuts; Cut Away; Totally Yours; The Ultimate Attraction; Salon Steel Magnolias; European Intigue Salon, Hair Shapes, Cut-N-Go Depot; Cuts-N-Stuff; The Hair After, Hairtistic, Hot Heads and my favorite, Hairpocalypse. The NH Magazine had a humorous article spoofing the ridiculous, funny, odd and weird names of salons. All I wanted was a trim!

  81. Not a hair salon, not precisely, but there’s a place that sits on some acreage that I sometimes pass by in the Plano area. There’s a part of Parker that all of a sudden goes from upper-crust neighborhoods to rural settings. Anyway, this is a grooming/boarding place that’s also attached to a pet cemetery (yeah, I almost spelled it “pet sematary” and had to catch myself).

The name of this place? Toothacres.

  82. Katrina, I don’t know about the Miss America thing. Denton has two universities: Texas Woman’s University (my alma mater) and the University of North Texas (Don Henley is an alum). Things we’re known for? Brave Combo, for one. The band that did that “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” song, another.

5^^now8ing (what does that say, anyway?) my real name is Noelle. “Noelegy” is a reference to a Kansas song, “Nobody’s Home.”

    “A requiem was never sung
    No elegy was read
No monument was carved in stone in memory of the dead
For those who made this place do not remain they feel no pain
A stranger fate was never known”

The way they sing it, the words “no” and “elegy” are kind of run together. My ex-husband and I were listening to that song once, and as my last name started with “G” at the time, we decided that “Noelegy” would be a good screen name for me to use. Now that I’m no longer Noelle G., I still kept the screen name because I liked it. :)

  83. 5^^now8ing says:

Noelegy – i had a feeling there was something neat like that behind the name — do like!

My name means “Five cats, no waiting,” a sign my (adult) daughter put on our front door when she was throwing a party, with magazine cutouts of kittens. I liked it so much I kind of appropriated it.

  84. 5^^now8ing says:

    Y’all can call me 5^^. :-)

  85. Von Zeppelin says:

I’m feeling really inferior about getting my hair cut at Tom’s Barber Shop. Better tell the old guy to come up with a better name. Also, maybe, to get some Sports Illustrated mags newer than 1983.

  86. There is Hairy’s Hair Bar here in Milwaukee

  87. Milly_eee says:

*death becomes me*…death by cuteness is the best death.

  88. The eyes looks super innocent! Cute little thing.

    Heart loop ear rabbits. :D

  89. I, I’m not sure, but, it does look like she’s …trying to smother him? Eeps!

OK, we need more hair puns. Um, Hair to the Throne?

  90. Kristabelle says:

The place I got my hair done on Friday is called Tight Ends. They were originally an all guy salon and have a football theme. Notsomuch anymore. My other salon is called In Style. But it used to be the Hairport (which is apparently a popular name – or else there are a finite number of Hair puns available…)
My grandmother used to go to Salon 911.
My mom’s old place was called Shear Excellence.

  91. lmao

  92. Shear Lock Combs was around the corner from where i lived once.

  93. krumpleton smith says:

this is now on my desktop so I can open it when i need it

  94. Susan R says:

This is the cutest bunny pic ever taken . . .

  95. The stare down contest continues neither side show signs of wavering.

    How cute. Cant stand it.

  96. OMG!! The first bunneh that’s NOT disapproving! She hasn’t lost her childlike innocence yet ;) Soon she’ll be jaded and bitter like all the other buns…

  97. the bunny is so cute i just saw the picture right then i fell in love with the bunny.i have 2 bunnies now and the girl that i called hannah she had three cute little babies.but awful enuogh they pasted away the time they came out.but its okay because that happens to all girl bunnies when they have babies but it okay its because since its the first time that they have babies that happens but relax they will have babies the next three months and trust they will be alive .
