So start your day the Simpsons way — with a hearty helping of Homer Simpson brand Frosted Pink Doughnuts.  They’re the waistline-expanding part of this balanced breakfast!

6 Lula Mae 07.09.09 at 9:46 am

Hmmmmm…. Dog-gieee
(head tilted backwards, drooling)

7 hon glad 07.09.09 at 9:50 am

I presume the doughnut is made from good for dogs ingredients.

8 zeldapie 07.09.09 at 9:51 am

Oooh! I hope he got to EAT the darn thing afterwards!!

9 skippymom 07.09.09 at 9:52 am

That’s quite a tumour you’ve got there, mate, but we ought to be able to remove it with just a small scar remaining, which will quickly be covered up by fur.
On second thought…it actually looks quite cute–maybe we’ll take a “watchful waiting” approach. Let me just perform a quick biopsy to rule out malignancy. (Munch, munch.) Oh! All gone! Never mind.

@Mary (the first) Yes! Cute puppehs would be the best diet aid of all! They should accompany every fattening snack as a distraction.

“Would madame like zis paltree pastreee, or would madame prefer to ‘ow you say, snorgle zee tummee?”

11 lydee 07.09.09 at 10:00 am

LOL! love the pink icing!

12 Kit 07.09.09 at 10:08 am

That donut looks almost like a human donut! I bet I could put it in the box in the break room for lol-arious results! … I may have to keep the dog too. For… emotional support.

13 Rachael 07.09.09 at 10:17 am

Forget the donut – I just want to nom on his adorable noze!

14 catloveschanel 07.09.09 at 10:26 am

Message decipherable to Gail in Florida

There’s donuts on hold!

15 metsakins 07.09.09 at 10:52 am

@hon glad -
I doubt that doughnut is made from good for people ingredients.

16 Mary (the first) 07.09.09 at 10:58 am

@T.U.M., “Madame would prefer to, ‘ow you say, snorgle zee tummmeeee.. and smooch zee nose .. and huff zee earrzzzzzz. .. and .. and .. “

17 5^^now8ing 07.09.09 at 11:01 am

Metaskins – LOL! Yep, we mostly feed our pets healthier than ourselves! But the snorgle-vs-yummie-diet might just work.

18 260Oakley 07.09.09 at 11:10 am

Flickr stream again poses the question: What won’t a golden retriever put up with?

19 berthaservant 07.09.09 at 11:14 am

If Homer was around that goggie’s snout would be in great danger.

And if you squint a little bit and pretend he’s completely shaved you might imagine this fella to be Santa’s Little Helper.

20 debg 07.09.09 at 11:16 am

What a great goggie! I certainly don’t have that level of self-control (good thing my nose isn’t long enough to hold a donut).

21 Lerrinus 07.09.09 at 11:35 am

Awww, what a patient puppeh, hope he got the treat afterwards!

22 Theresa 07.09.09 at 11:50 am

I’d snarf down that evil donut in a flash, but I wouldn’t let my doggie anywhere near it, if I had a doggie.

23 Valerie 07.09.09 at 12:00 pm

He probably doesnt drop even a sprinkle.

[Good dog! Still, I think we'll keep some newspaper laid down in the basement for a while... ;) - Ed.]

24 lrm 07.09.09 at 1:12 pm

I am all for the puppy diet! Puppies aren’t fattening! I love this golden, too.

25 Heather 07.09.09 at 1:25 pm

This puppeh looks…tortured. Come on, give da puppeh da donut!!!

26 varekai97X 07.09.09 at 1:27 pm

Certainly looks like Emmet got to snarf that doughnut right up after picture time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/pawcurious/3517604004/in/photostream/ (Also looks like poor Emmet had some surgery recently, if that shaved patch on his leg is any indication. I hope someone brings me a pretty doughnut like that if I ever go to the hospital!)

27 Katrina 07.09.09 at 1:31 pm

Oh, please not this again. Let the goggie eat the donut and let poor Emmet’s boo-boo be all healed. Amen.

28 Theresa 07.09.09 at 1:56 pm

What looks really delicious, is that nice big truffle-nose underneath the donut.

29 CUTE ☆ FUNNY STUFF 07.09.09 at 2:06 pm

Looks very healthy start for the day!!LOL!

30 Dr V 07.09.09 at 2:24 pm

Hon glad- Don’t worry, that ‘donut’ was purchased from a doggie bakery and is actually a ring of dog-friendly granola with yogurt frosting. :) It is his reward for being good for his chemotherapy. :(

31 Kelsey 07.09.09 at 2:32 pm

Chemo… therapy…???
nooooo! Poor puppy dog! :o (
Stupid evil cancers… I want to buy that puppy doughnuts for his breakkies EVERY DAY!

32 Kate 07.09.09 at 2:48 pm

I thought Santa’s Little Helper was a greyhound! Boy, were we fooled!

33 Mary (the first) 07.09.09 at 3:12 pm

He gets a granola donut for being good for .. chemo?! *** HUGS TO EMMETT *** and I promise I won’t even try to steal his donut!

34 Paunchie 07.09.09 at 3:13 pm

What the? Just because I”m wearing a pink shirt, doesn’t mean I’m some pink-doughnut-loving person!

35 kibblenibble 07.09.09 at 3:20 pm

Sending healing thoughts to Emmett for the cancer to go away and never return.

36 Amy 07.09.09 at 3:32 pm

The donut–meh. The pooch–doggylicious!

37 Theresa 07.09.09 at 3:37 pm

His . . . snif . . . chemo???

Get well soon, Emmet!!! Good doggie!

38 Sunny 07.09.09 at 3:42 pm

Dr. V….I read your blog and seen your flickr and I love it…Emmett seems like such a sweet boy and what a good mom to have in a time like this. I wish him well <3
I also really like this picture of him http://www.flickr.com/photos/pawcurious/3437140158/

39 KittyMarthaPoo 07.09.09 at 3:44 pm

What gorgeous, gentle eyes.. :)

40 dawgpup 07.09.09 at 4:23 pm

aww he wants to eat it lol :)

41 Kar 07.09.09 at 4:29 pm

More best wishes for Emmett and his recovery. I bet Victoria Stilwell would be impressed.

42 catloveschanel 07.09.09 at 4:56 pm

Dr V. Please sing to Emmett right away
Sing to (Turkey in the straw)

Well I walked around the corner and I walked around the block,
And I walked right into a donut shop,
And I picked up a donut and I licked off the grease,
And I handed the lady a five cent piece.

Well she looked at the nickel and she looked at me,
And she said, “This nickel isn’t good to me!
There’s a hole in the middle and it goes right through!”
Well, lady, there’s a hole in the donut too!

Thanks for the donut, goodbye!

43 Ruth 07.09.09 at 8:49 pm

Cruelty beyond redemption for that poor angel, give him a bakers dozen !

44 hon glad 07.09.09 at 10:52 pm

@Dr V. Thanks for the info, I guessed as much. I hope Emmett makes a full recovery :}

45 claudia 07.09.09 at 11:05 pm

lucky pup to have a loving family, HUGS to him!

46 Subhangi 07.09.09 at 11:36 pm

What a beautiful, sweet-faced doggy. Awwww!

47 Lula Mae 07.10.09 at 4:04 am

Poor Emmet, all the best *hug*

48 Rachael 07.10.09 at 6:27 am

Hang in there, Emmet. You have a lot of people pulling for you. *hugs*

49 Sheepy 07.10.09 at 6:32 am

Get better soon, Emmet! (And I also would totally buy doggie-donuts every day if I had my own puppy. And broker the treaties for sharing if I had more than one puppy.)

50 skippymom 07.10.09 at 7:44 am

I hope my apology will be accepted for comment #9 above. I had no idea the dog actually had cancer. It now seems in horrifically bad taste–I hope people will understand that it was an unfortunate attempt at humor.

51 Paul Sobczak 07.10.09 at 8:18 am

Theo, did you delete my comment?

[Um, no, you commented in a different thread. Speaking of "D'OH" - Ed.]

52 5^^now8ing 07.10.09 at 8:55 am

Chemotherapy?! Oh, poor baby!
And Emmett is such a great doggie name!

53 Loretta 07.10.09 at 9:00 am

Look at the ears and the eye expression. Don’t you see a
little of “why are you doing this to me?”

54 Dr V 07.10.09 at 10:15 am

@skippymom- No offense at all. :) It was still funny. :D

55 skippymom 07.10.09 at 10:52 am

Oh, dear Dr V, thank you for being so kind. Love and all good wishes to Emmett from me and my four cats.

56 Paunchie 07.10.09 at 1:04 pm

I love the idea of a doggeh bakery!

That sounds good, granola and yogurt doughnuts.

Also the fried bread and sugar kind work for me.

57 Michael Claymore 07.10.09 at 8:45 pm

Ah, ha! Now we know who grabs all the fancy donuts and leaves just the plain ones, don’t we?

58 Katrina 07.11.09 at 6:27 am

We have a local ice cream shop that creates ice cream cakes for doggehs- with doggy milk-type bones on top! We also have at least two doggeh bakeries that I can think of- we are just the height of sophistication around Central Connecticut!

How is Emmet today, Dr. V.?

59 JudyRB 07.11.09 at 1:07 pm

Dr V – I hope that Emmett is doing great – I know chemo stinks as a person – I can’t imagine how is it for a dog. But I wish someone I had given me a pink frosted doughnut after my chemo!! Thanks for being a great caregiver to Emmett.

60 Dr V 07.11.09 at 7:18 pm

@Katrina- We’re taking it day by day. He came out of remission the day he was posted here; it was an awful day but seeing him here and feeling the love was so, so very nice. It really picked me up. :) He had a new chemo treatment yesterday and now we just hope. And feed donuts.

61 Oddrey 07.11.09 at 10:29 pm

Lots of love and hugs and donuts to Emmett, he is such a sweetheart!

62 Kat 07.11.09 at 11:30 pm

63 Michael Claymore 07.12.09 at 2:25 am

Poor little guy, i hope it turns out well for him.

64 Serena 07.12.09 at 7:10 am

67 pyrit 07.13.09 at 6:25 am

Yes, all the dogs will want nose rings now.

(((Emmett)))

68 Willow 07.21.09 at 6:33 am

Too cute! It puts the E! in cute!

69 Kar 07.24.09 at 9:12 am

Oh, poor Emmet. Apparently he gave his owner “the look” the other day. So even though she was ready to try one more thing, she listened to him and helped him transition to the next situation.

It’s so hard when you want to hang on but you know it’s not what they want.

70 Jenny 07.25.09 at 6:20 am

Wow cute dog and cool doughnut. It would be funny if you gave some to police dogs.
