I agree with Tamily,
I find it really sad that of so many comments for this pictures, only hers pointed at the terrible situation of the wild animals kept as pets. (Not only is it bad for the animal, it’s also terrible for the environment depending on where they come from, and you can’t really trust the guy who’s selling an orangutan, when he tells you its parents died, can you?). Wild animals as pets are ilegal as well, depending on the species and location, etc.

This should never be encouraged. I think it would be the right thing to do to add a little comment to the pictures (besides here in the comments section) to clear that up. Please consider doing this.

Hi Meg,

Yes, these pics are cute, but I worry that they give the public the wrong idea about keeping primates as pets. This is a very dangerous practice that should not be encouraged.

While I admit that these pics are adorable, I just wanted to make everyone aware of the sad situation behind them. T.I.G.E.R.S is an institution that claims to promote conservation but actually uses animals for entertainment and profit. This orang was pulled from her parents under questionable circumstances. This is usually done because the birth interval of orangs is eight years, and some places prefer to shorten that by taking a mother’s baby away so she can give birth again sooner.
