When you’re feeling small and alone, and the world doesn’t make any sense, all you need is a really good friend with a really good grip.

Katie, I love the idea of a Koala Mom’n'Tots Yoga Class!

12 Camille 06.17.09 at 6:43 am

The little fella seems to be doing the Downward Facing Koala pose.

17 Kristabelle 06.17.09 at 7:16 am

Momma Koala certainly has some longs legs! (She’s got legs…she knows how to use them…)

What a cute little baby!

18 punkinberry 06.17.09 at 7:25 am

Awww!

19 Darin (Baykon Cheezburger) 06.17.09 at 7:26 am

CO, thank you SOOOO much for your help for the IBKC. Not only have you been spreading the word but you also made a kick-butt donation on top of it!

I am so impressed and proud that one of the websites I visit every day isn’t just about making us go “awwww”.

20 cath 06.17.09 at 7:35 am

Awww…. makes me feel all snuggly.

And… I love the hovertext. I’ve been thinking lately about those old posters (anyone else remember them?) and how, saccharine as they may have been, they really were the precursor to lolcats, i can has cheezburgers, and — of course — CO. The new is just a funnier, sillier, and more irreverent twist on the old.

21 Dianna 06.17.09 at 7:41 am

AWWWWW is right! :)

22 Theresa 06.17.09 at 7:43 am

@Hon Glad, how open-minded of you. I would say to that (except it’s the wrong time of year) Ladies and Gentlemen, take my advice, pull down your bloomers and slide on the ice.

23 eastiegirl 06.17.09 at 7:51 am

Definitely got an awww out of me!

24 claudemarie 06.17.09 at 7:52 am

I did go aw! Except it was more like AWWWWW!!!!

25 charliewabba 06.17.09 at 8:06 am

I sometimes stretch like that to get the kinks out om by back, but I don’t have a baby k’wallie to sit in my lap while I do it. Why?

26 charliewabba 06.17.09 at 8:07 am

sheesh.
out OF MY back.
I don’t even have a head cold.
sheesh.

27 Theresa 06.17.09 at 8:07 am

PS @Gail– And heah again is the famous koala beah, a symbol of God’s Own, and ahguably the cutest lil bahstad on the planet. Obsuhv the affictionet bond between mum and baby. Pahdon, suh, back theah, would you mind controlling those hilthily rambunctious Aussie children? Pouring the amber down the enimals is definitely not on. Ta.

28 hon glad 06.17.09 at 8:25 am

@ Theresa- Thank you for that sound advise about the ice sounds nice.

29 hon glad 06.17.09 at 8:28 am

30 kibblenibble 06.17.09 at 8:33 am

Soooo fuzzzzzy! :-)

31 alwayscataddict 06.17.09 at 8:33 am

32 KittyAdventures 06.17.09 at 8:36 am

Okay I admit it first I thought Ohhh look My moment of Zen for the day and then I saw the baby and OMG I went AWWWWW too!

33 brinnann 06.17.09 at 8:54 am

34 J. 06.17.09 at 9:07 am

Slightly older baby koala with mom, still cute, plus wittle tiger and a happy zebra.

35 January 06.17.09 at 9:14 am

You betcha.

36 santipryia 06.17.09 at 9:31 am

how synchronistic! this morning i was thinking if i someone asked me what kind of animal i was i would say a koala bear – they’re always so fuzzy, and sleepy and cuddly.

37 brinnann 06.17.09 at 9:34 am

I think there should be a “Honk-Shu” tag.

38 Deeleea 06.17.09 at 9:38 am

Awwwww, wow… massive surprise and compliment! Thanks for the Add!!

39 chanpon 06.17.09 at 9:49 am

Looks like the koala’s version of a chaise lounge! Love it!

40 skippymom 06.17.09 at 9:49 am

A friend of mine who visited Australia said she was told by people there that it’s possible to hug a wild koala if one sneaks up from behind it. (She declined to try it.) Anybody here done this?

41 Mary (the first) 06.17.09 at 9:54 am

AWWWWW. I wish I could snuggle up with a fluffy koala and sleep in a tree.. instead of WORK:(

42 Nancy 06.17.09 at 10:09 am

…Friday’s coming!!!

43 Theresa 06.17.09 at 10:17 am

@Skippymom, sounds like the Aussies were having her on– what, Aussies BS tourists? Nah, that NEVER happens.

Seems highly unlikely to me. Koalas, left on their own, don’t particularly want to be seen by us hoomins, and live in trees, so they’re not generally in hugging range. I was in a koala preserve near Canberra once (Tidbinbilla), and I wouldn’t have known there were any koalas there except for the koala poop falling from above.

They don’t drop from the trees and bury their fangs in you, either.

44 skippymom 06.17.09 at 10:32 am

“koala poop falling from above” heh heh
Theresa, I’m feeling the need to incorporate that line in a poem…there’s something so peaceful and soothing-sounding about it….

Something like

Whisper to me softly words of love
While koala poop falls from above.
Time flees as on the wings of a dove
And koala poop is falling from above.

45 Noelle (the First) 06.17.09 at 10:49 am

Thanks NTMTOM, I really needed this affirmation today! I’ve been in a bad way the last week and this really helped! CO has been the one bright spot in this week and I love you guys for it!

BTW, I did go awwwww. How clever of you to know!

46 Theresa 06.17.09 at 10:51 am

The Koala Poop of Mercy is not strained
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven.

47 skippymom 06.17.09 at 11:21 am

The koala poop of mercy is not strained.
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
On tourists underneath. This poop is best:
It smeareth him that gawks and him that hugs.
‘Tis stinkier than the stinkiest; it beslimes
The hapless tourist better when it’s fresh.

48 danielie 06.17.09 at 11:25 am

Definitely aww-ing. :) I love how the baby looks so comfortable and safe.

49 Theresa 06.17.09 at 11:35 am

Ah, iambic pentameter is not dead!

50 Paunchie 06.17.09 at 11:36 am

LOL@ koala poop poetry! Well done, ladies.

Sneak up on a koala and hug it? A wild animule? Yeah, you go first.

51 skippymom 06.17.09 at 11:43 am

Paunchie, I happen to be animal-crazy enough, and definitely gullible enough, that if I were in Australia and a koala was nearby and someone told me I could hug it, I would go for it IN A HEARTBEAT.

52 Paunchie 06.17.09 at 11:44 am

@skippymom: I bet you would try to kiss that vintage sealio on the haid too!

too bad kit didna wanna be inside house!

53 kibblenibble 06.17.09 at 11:48 am

Skippymom, good job with the “quality of mercy” send-up. :-D

54 Theresa 06.17.09 at 11:53 am

Hey, I STARTED it.

SkippyMom, you should see the fairy penguins — unbelievable.

55 skippymom 06.17.09 at 12:05 pm

Yes, Theresa, credit where credit is due. (But I introduced the idea of using it in a poem!) (But you introduced “koala poop falling from above!) Fair is fair, you really started it.
So, do fairy penguins let people hug them?

Paunchie, I would try to kiss that seal on the LIPS! Um, do seals have lips?

(p.s. kitty may not want to be in house, but kitty is going to be spayed soon.)

[PPS - ♫ Every time it rains, it rains... bear drops from Heaven... :P - Ed.]

56 skippymom 06.17.09 at 12:22 pm

Bear drops? That’s a kind of hard candy, yes?

57 skippymom 06.17.09 at 12:56 pm

…a kind of PENNY candy, get it?

58 Amy 06.17.09 at 1:05 pm

Aww… makes miss my Mom who died almost 16 years ago!

59 Katrina 06.17.09 at 1:09 pm

You know, if you sneak up from behind an Australian….

60 Marie 06.17.09 at 2:29 pm

Koala limbs!!

Look at those outstretched fuzzy legs! Stretched animal limbs are my weakeness. I just want to tickle, scratch and most of all nom nom.

61 Theresa 06.17.09 at 2:54 pm

@SkippyMom, the fairy or “little” penguins of Phillips Island should really get a CO posting one of these days. They are about the height of a large cell phone, and arrive on shore en masse at sunset, and scurry up the beach to their burrows. An incredibly adorable sight:

62 Theresa 06.17.09 at 2:55 pm

@Katrina, you get a tin of Fosters or Victoria Bitter.

63 Emmy 06.17.09 at 3:20 pm

ok all right i’ll just do it… awwwwwww

64 Froggy 06.17.09 at 5:23 pm

He seems depressed.

65 rafafoo 06.17.09 at 6:24 pm

If the cute bebe and mama pic didn’t do it-The koala poop of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven-Really made me smile (and chuckle a bit) and if you knew what happened to me in the last hour…well you deserve a medal! Thankyou CO

66 kibblenibble 06.17.09 at 8:23 pm

Theresa: Ooops, my bad. You did first recognize the poetic quality of koala poop from above. I’m not as sharp as I used to be. :-(

67 puddlepeppers 06.17.09 at 8:53 pm

Theresa and skippymom,
Thanks so much for the poetry about the koala poop of mercy. Really
delightful! I believe that Theresa has played Portia.

68 Deeleea 06.18.09 at 1:07 am

If you’re all keen on more koala photos… follow my link above and you’ll see the rest, both from that day at Taronga Zoo and later on when I came across some in the wild. And no, they’re generally unamenable to being snuck up on for cuddles… also, if an Australian ever takes you bush walking and warns you about drop-bears… well… let’s just say, they’re pulling your leg too…

69 Fi 06.18.09 at 1:24 am

How much can a koala bare?

Ha ha!

(sorry dee!)

70 Waxwork 06.18.09 at 7:22 am

Koala poop smells like Eucalyptus oil and falls in little pellets like black jelly beans. As someone that used to have the hard hard job of cleaning out Koala enclosures (and sneaking in pats when no one was looking) a rain of Koala poop falling from above is not unpleasant.

There pee however is lethal, still smells like Eucalyptus but is hard to wash out of your clothes. Please don’t ask me how I know

71 Paunchie 06.19.09 at 9:23 am

@waxwork: EW!!

72 Cata 06.21.09 at 9:13 am

Love this pic! reminds me of my mom :) OMG I miss her so much :(

73 Stephanie 06.21.09 at 11:12 am
