WAIT—

You expect me to GO TO COLLEGE!!?

My life span is only three years, god dammit!!!

[Shifty eyes] Can I major in Cheese?

No WAY José!

By the way, Sender-Inner and Photographer Lindsey B. says she’s “This is Penelope. I’m creating a calendar. A sort of ‘ode to Penelope‘”. Looks great so far, Lindsey.

Aww! She’s the exact same color as my hamster Jayne. And just as cute with the tiny paws.

  2. Zaferina says:

  6. freetomato says:

Adorable teensy paws (could do without the GD hovertext – just me – sorry had to say it – I am prudy mc nerdgirl). Love the new format!

  7. Jezebel says:

    What a cutie!

  10. Lesley says:

I hear the University of HAMburg has a fantastic cheese program.

  11. Moinsche says:

Majoring in the culinary arts is a very respectable career option and would be a, dare I say it, a scr-hamp-tious idea! ;-)

  12. Ptychozoon says:

    Ode to Penelope!
    Whose dainty paws are wont
To draw up in a semblance of grasping an ephemeral slice
    Of cheese.
    Whose nose,
Pink as the belly of babes
    Would serve as a crucible
In which many-a snorgle would articulate.
    - Emily Lickenson.

  13. Miss Penelope looks like she’s getting ready to type; (probly on a teeney-tineey typewriter, which is cleverly concealed by her book)… it’s not her fault that she is so smart that she belongs to the Hammy Branch of Mensa; she is just shy, and must be encouraged to seek higher education…..a university, perhaps, and not just some cheesy college…..!

  14. chanpon says:

Looking at those color pencils, it appears Penelope might be in danger of eating her college supplies.

  15. Gail (the first one) says:

@Zaferina: Cute pic!! Guess your Hammie isn’t into HTML, huh???

  16. 260oakley says:

Hammie will submit assignments using a Mac-n-CheeseBook.

  17. tokiji says:

    sorry about that :P

  18. bazu says:

awww! this kid would make a perfect frat boy!

  19. nismo says:

    She’s…she’s too cuddly.

  20. College is so drab, although majoring in cheese would be good!

  21. Decca says:

I don’t know, little hammy looks like he got caught cribbing someone else’s answers.

  22. squirrelfriend says:

Uhh, I KNOW this hamster has been on here before! She was the “I HATE Midterms!” hammy. My daughter memorized the comments that went with and every time she sees my wallpaper for my laptop (Penelope as seen here) she recites them. That said I think she is so cute she deserves another shout out here on CO!

  23. AmyJ says:

I would like to major in hamsters in college. (Oh – I forgot, I already graduated, bummer!)

  24. Nikki says:

Penelope looks like has been tewtelly caught in the act. The act of what, I’m not sure, but she is definitely up to something. And her teeny little manicure is perfect!

  25. Nikki says:

I just clicked on the photostream of adorable little Penelope–she is a Perfect Little Actress! Such a ham. Very dramatic and expressive. The photos are great and you can tell that her Mom just loves this little cutie.

  26. nakey says:

So cutes! As charming as this hammie is, she ees NOTHING without such masterful captioning.

  27. hamham says:

Penelope looks just like my hamham, Coffee! I love the pictures sooooo much that I just bought the calendar :) I look forward for the 2010 edition!!!

  28. dubyah1 says:

Approve of the god and damned hovairtext, as a thinly veiled excuse to see if my avatar is avataring.
    Ooh, hamku coming on:
    Apple for teacher
    Up to her own scapula.
    Suck-up supremo

    5/7/5, hammos!

  29. dubyah1 says:

    Oooh, we have lynxatar!

  30. Samantha says:

I’ll buy that calendar when it comes out! Cutest idea since the offiche C.O. calendar. :) Penelope’s a beauty.

  31. Tammy says:

    Hehehe! That is sooo cute!

  32. berthaservant says:

  33. hon glad says:

I must be part Hamster, I loves me the cheesey comestibles.

  34. Subhangi says:

    SQUEEEEEEEE!

A major in cheese? My sis has 4 more years to go for college but I bet she’d love that.

    Great shot!

  35. meoowmom =^..^= says:

    Penelope is truly adorables.

NOTE : there is no reason to use the DG word it was in very poor taste
in my humble opinion! I hope this is not the start of something, there
are too prosh pics and cute stuff to bring in the GD was uncalled for!!!

  36. nads says:

This cutie has been on here before! i remember the little chew marks on the blue pencil. If I had to do three more years of college I’d swear too, ALOT worse than what’s in the hovertext! Freedom of speech, y’all.

  37. fatcat says:

*falls off chair laughing at hovertext*
It’s ok sweetie, you can major in cheese if you like. Or broccoli.

  38. Shona says:

I wish I was majoring in cheese!

  39. charliewabba says:

Everybody knows hamsters go to Hampshire College!
    my alma mater!

  40. nbeHis says:

    “Apple? What apple?”

  41. Trixie says:

I once had a hamster named Jezebel, and she often used the swearing words. I think she went to heaven anyways.

  42. turbofloof says:

I love that God Damned Hamp-ster.
    Good one, Meg.

  43. marthava says:

The ode is really cute, too. :)

  44. jojas says:

    What a cute !! :)

  45. myphotoscout says:

Oops now pretend I cannot read.

  46. violet says:

Yup there is such a thing as freedom of speech. But, could you imagine what a horrible world it would be if we said anything we wanted to just because we could. (and you all know we actually are not allowed to say whatever we like.)
I love God. If it wasn’t for Him I would have died of an overdose. He gave purpose to my life. That’s why it hurts me when his name is used so disrespectfully. I also don’t think its okay to disrespect other peoples religious beliefs even if I don’t happen to believe in what they believe in. By the way, I don’t feel I have to make apologies for holding the view that you should be polite to others.

  47. dubyah1 says:

As an ethical atheist, I bless Meg and her CO underlords for their li’l ray o’ sunshine website each and every day.
I hope their faboosh senses of humour, without fear of censorship, will continue to p*ss some people off for a long, long time.

  48. violet says:

some people = anyone who believes in God.

  49. violet says:

I enjoy this site tremendously; several times a day. But,I really believe that there are many things that Meg and her helpers would not say because of their consideration for others. All I am asking is for the same. That makes me a bad person?

  50. TW says:

violet, no one called you a bad person. Yet you strongly imply that “Meg and her helpers” are disrespectful and inconsiderate simply because you disagree with a word used in a caption. Please don’t play the victim when you are the one trying to enforce your views on others.

  51. violet says:

TW. I wasn’t strongly implying anything. I actually came right out and said that it was disrespectful and offensive. A view that a few others brought up as well. You are adding insult to injury by being dismissive. Even though I neither view myself as a victim or intended to garner sympathy, technically I am the offended party, not the offending party. I didn’t write the hovertext. If God had been left out of it I would be commenting on the cute hamster instead. I guarantee you if something was said that Gays/Lesbians, African Americans, Jewish People, or Muslims, etc. took offense to they and others would have plenty to say, with plenty of support. When did it become okay to offend those who believe and God and why are we the ones who are offensive just because we refuse to suck it up. This is my last post on the subject matter. If anyone wants to discuss this further I suggest we take it off site. All you have to do is ask and I will give you my email address.

I loooove this site! I loooove this pic! Penelope is uber cute, and I love her little expressions.
If you begin to get your panties in a twist about CO’s choice of words, you may feel free to take a deep breath, grab a chill pill, and and visit a little site called FUPenguin for some perspective.

  58. isa says:
