Hilarious, and yet kind of gross because they’re using human hair…that can never be minty fresh.

I floss twice a month.
A couple of observations:
1. Here I’ve been wasting money during a depression on minty fresh waxed floss.
2. My dentist is somewhere thinking: A monkey can do this, WHY CAN’T MY PATIENTS?
3. Stupid but obvious question, ** Where did they get the human hair? **
How can anyone doubt the intelligence of monkeys? they are remarkably human like take this story a chimp at a zoo actually fashioned concrete discs and other projectiles to hurl at zoo visitors to get them to move away when he was tired of being gawked at

monkeys are doing better than me–they have prehensile tails. My treetop skills could stand improvement.
People aren’t even motivated enough to floss knowing what will happen if they don’t…What’s motivating these clever monkehs? :-O And will whoever (whomever?) is giving them the human hair just give them some flosss already?

As an animal lover AND a dental student, I approve of this video!!! <3 I sent it along to all my friends and dental colleagues. :)
I’m wondering where the monkeys get all this human hair. Does someone give it to them? Do they just find it lying around? Or do they lie in wait for long-haired people to come by and leap onto their scalps and rip it out?
Also, I think dental hygienists need to teach that hold-the-floss-with-your-hind-foot technique.
One word. Fascinating.
I’ve never got on with flossing, I use inter-dental brushes.

Does anyone else get the idea that if they continue to teach and pass on knowlege from monkey band to monkey band, they will eventually take over the world?
Is this flossing behavior something that was taught to the monkeys or did they take up the habit on their own? I’ve never seen this before!

This is NOT the first evidence of monkeys teaching their young to use tools. Researchers have seen it going on for years. Primates are also not the only animals known to do it. I mean, come on. *grumble*

I caught that too and thought it sounded off. I’m no scientist, but I could have sworn I have heard of other instances of primates teaching their young how to use tools.
And speaking of other animals teaching their young, does anyone remember the story about some dolphins that taught their young how to use sponges to protect their snouts while foraging? I thought it was pretty cool. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/ID/8121399/
Only 2 species are known for cavities Bears and Us. Why? Sugar. Nothing else has sugar plus teeth. Unless of course you’re a monkey in the big city. Then you might die at a young age from cavities which cause infections and abscesses if untreated. That’s cool that this sugar-filled environment is naturally selecting for floss.

I wonder if it’s not for cleaning as much as a gum massage. They’re pretty good at it no matter what the reason! Macaques are awesome.
I bet other animals would floss if they had the hands to do it. I wish we could train dogs to brush their teeth!
Ah, this is where my parents failed. They taught me to floss themselves rather than having a monkey teach me. If a monkey had taught me, I’d be a much better flosser today.
I think monkeys are brilliant, too. But wow, advanced hygiene skillz? Come on. They floss because there’s food stuck in there. Food!
