by Not That Mike The Other Mike on February 12, 2009

6 parts gin
2 parts vodka
1 part Lillet blanc
Lemon twist Kitty head

Combine liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with cracked ice and shake well. Strain into a chillin’ martini glass and garnish with lemon twist kitty head.

A couple of those little onions would be nice, too.

We maded you a martini, Sandy B., but we drinked it.
(Recipe based on the classic James Bond martini. More recipes here.)

And the “olive” is the beepable pink nose?

2 Janet in Cambridge 02.12.09 at 2:09 pm

Ya gotta make the best of a bad situation. Who invented these things anyway?

There are some softer versions available that are easier for a cat to negotiate in. Try these two sites: (http://www.bonafido.com/page6.html)OR (http://www.twotuttles.com/softecollarcolors.html)

3 Huskyteer 02.12.09 at 2:11 pm

I don’t think the drugs from the operation have worn off yet…

4 Hon Glad 02.12.09 at 2:14 pm

I prefer a sardini.

5 ding 02.12.09 at 2:24 pm

Oh noes! Don’t worry kitty, time heals all. And napping.

6 Von Zeppelin 02.12.09 at 2:36 pm

For a very dry CO martini, omit the Lilet blanc and just ask the cat to think very hard about vermouth.

7 Hélène 02.12.09 at 2:50 pm

LOL, I saw this from my RSS reader which doesn’t show the author’s name, so I had to come here and check. Naturally, it’s NOMTOM!

This should also be in cute or sad.

8 Nikki 02.12.09 at 2:53 pm

Is this a 6 toe kitty???

9 Estlin 02.12.09 at 3:02 pm

I love animals with lampshades.

10 Poohbear 02.12.09 at 3:07 pm

Definitely in the Cute or sad category. That Elizabethan collar looks way too tight, poor kitteh.

11 thicktortiethintabby 02.12.09 at 3:07 pm

I second “Cute or Sad”!

Calling matchingks again today–blanket and side of belleh!

12 Kar 02.12.09 at 3:14 pm

Poor little one. I hope that this is temporary and that they’re better very soon. I do like the clear plastic though, nothing more pathetic than a lampshade crashing around the furniture.

BTW, I love how the pink blanket matches the leetle pink nose.

13 Not That Mike The Other Mike 02.12.09 at 3:15 pm

OK, “Cute or Sad?” it is!

14 Theo 02.12.09 at 3:23 pm

There’s fur, Pooh.

15 Poohbear 02.12.09 at 3:46 pm

Right Theo, kitteh’s not being strangled but there’s not much room for its head – I’ve never seen a martini-glass-sized cone collar…
Yes kitteh, this too will pass…

16 Noelle 02.12.09 at 3:47 pm

Wow, that was some party last night! I just wish I could remember what I did with that martini glass. I coulda sworn I had it just before I passed out in the punch bowl.

17 A thinker 02.12.09 at 3:52 pm

Kitty looks like she’s HAD a few of her martinis.

18 Katrina 02.12.09 at 3:52 pm

Von Zeppelin -*snerk*.Yes, just the thought of Vermouth should do it! *snerkitysnerk*

19 lori 02.12.09 at 3:57 pm

(hic) i tink (hic) dat kitteh (hic) should beeen(hic) should bee in (hic) needs rehab! (hic) (stumble, faint, snore)

20 Katrina 02.12.09 at 4:01 pm

I’m pretty sure that is where she is now, lori!

Hic. *snerk*, again.

21 balamuthia 02.12.09 at 4:03 pm

But if you added onions it would be a kitty Gibson and not a martini!

22 Biscuit Tin 02.12.09 at 4:30 pm

I wonder if that’s just a “recovery room” collar? Small, so kitty’s head stays upright, and clear, so kitty can be observed? I have no idea what I’m talking about, of course. When I had my appendix out, I did not wake up with my head in a martini glass. I’m pretty sure.

23 Theresa 02.12.09 at 4:32 pm

“Think very hard about vermouth”? Nay, I say, barely entertain a passing fancy of vermouth. ;)

I recently read something funny about the “macho” culture of the “very dry” martini– I wish I could remember where.

I just don’t like gin. :(

I unfortunately don’t like gin

24 Theresa 02.12.09 at 4:32 pm

Aaak, again editing fail!!!

25 Theresa 02.12.09 at 4:33 pm

PS My cousin recently received bathtub-sized Martini glasses at her wedding shower. “Who do you think we are, Nick and Nora Charles”? she inquired.

26 debg 02.12.09 at 4:38 pm

Even passed out, this kitty has great fashion sense. How do some cats seem to know when they’re lying on flattering colors?

27 Kyle 02.12.09 at 4:48 pm

That’s the recipe for a Vesper, as described in “Casino Royale.” An easy transcription is 3oz gin, 1oz vodka and .5oz Lillet.

Also, I beg of you dear friends, please do not shake your martinis! They are to be stirred at all times!

As a final note of interest, when onions are substituted for a lemon twist (or olives), the drink becomes a Gibson.

28 Von Zeppelin 02.12.09 at 4:59 pm

@Theresa–I wouldn’t call it an editing fail. The slight incoherence just made your post more martini-esque.

29 NotAnotherMIlo 02.12.09 at 5:00 pm

I was reading this too fast, and I saw Lilac blanket instead of Lilet blanc… i was thinking”hmmmm. that’s not lilac, it’s pink.” Sigh. I will go get my coffee now.

My Milo had to wear a collar last year and it was big and opaque and he had real trouble navigating doorways and he kept getting caught on the corners of things. Funny for me, but not so much for him. He never figured out that he could back up. He’d just sit down and patiently wait for me to point him in the right direction. Maybe this collar would help with that?

30 Gail (the first one) 02.12.09 at 5:31 pm

I’ve always heard the “dry martini” recipe as just “walk the vermouth bottle past the gin once a week” or some such…..

Maybe kitteh overdid the anchovy olives in the Sardini!!

31 Lucy's mommeh 02.12.09 at 5:31 pm

Our Lucy had one of them collars on after surgery. Had to take it off of her when we got home, as she kept trying to back out of it & was knocking things over-wine bottles in the kitchen & such.
She was good & left her stitches alone, thank heavens!

32 Theresa 02.12.09 at 5:49 pm

Thanks, Von Zep, and of course, I don’t like gin. Nope, just don’t like it. Gin. Don’t. Like. It. Gin, you know.

33 Theresa 02.12.09 at 5:51 pm

PS: (hic!)

34 Boomer's Babysitter 02.12.09 at 6:29 pm

NotAnotherMilo – that’s hilarious. Is Milo a cat?

Hmmm… too early in California for a martini. Oh well. Tea, then.

35 berthaservant 02.12.09 at 6:32 pm

This is a NTMTOM classic, really. Poor kitty.

36 momof2kitties 02.12.09 at 6:53 pm

Awww…I want to lay my head on her side and listen to her widdow heartbeat and breathing…so sweet.

37 Heather 02.12.09 at 7:01 pm

Its not a martini…
Its obviously a CATtini!

Oh, btw, anyone interested, I have pictures of up of my litter of siamese. They are only 6 days old, so wait a little longer for the eyes to open…ect. :)

When Picky had surgery last year, he had an Elizabethan collar, and he was continually bumping into walls and things, even though it was clear plastic. I had to buy new dishes for him so that he could get his head down low into the dish to eat and drink. It was pathetic – poor baby – but he is all well now (except of course for the crf).

39 Trick 02.12.09 at 7:45 pm

Just don’t rub the belly!

40 AuntieMame 02.12.09 at 7:52 pm

This is why I don’t drink. Because I’d pass out on something that wasn’t flattering to my tummy fur, and my picture would wind up smeared all over the Internets…

41 Paunchie 02.12.09 at 8:17 pm

poor kitteh, let her sleep it off. Play some Steely Dan…

42 N. Fritz 02.12.09 at 8:19 pm

Am I the only one who wants a green cocktail tomato in mine?

43 Jennie Mello 02.12.09 at 8:29 pm

she loves her pink blankie

44 Noelegy 02.12.09 at 9:46 pm

I’ve never had a real martini. Only the chocolate variety. Pretty sure if I had a real martini, I’d take mine dirty. Love olives.

45 NotAnotherMIlo 02.12.09 at 9:55 pm

Boomer’s Babysitter – Yes, Milo is a cat. A sweet, snuggly, very large tuxie and not the brightest bulb in the box. His brother is the brains of the outfit. :)

46 Sandy 02.12.09 at 9:56 pm

Flipper is so happy to be ur kitty martini! But truth be told, she hopes to never be ur kitty martini again! purrs and murphs (a flipper sound) to all the CO fam.

48 DisasterParty 02.12.09 at 10:49 pm

I dread the day our cats will have to undergo surgery.
You see, their cutest ritual is to give each other kitteh-kisses in passing.
Picture this with two lampshades…

49 Katiedid 02.12.09 at 11:40 pm

I’ll take just one Catini.. I’m drivin tonight…

50 auntyb 02.13.09 at 12:41 am

I’d rather have a free bottle in front of me instead of a pre-frontal lobotomy.

51 kibblenibble 02.13.09 at 3:35 am

Garnish with kitty head…snerk. NOMTOM, I can hear your comic timing in my head as I read…this is news to nobody here, but…you are brilliant.

52 Laurie 02.14.09 at 3:28 am

Decibel had to wear a funnel, too, when I got him emasculated. Poor little guy, but gods, was it amusing. Though I needed earplugs, and was really glad that looks cannot kill!
Heather – Baby Meezers! Now I’m cuted out :)

53 amy 02.14.09 at 11:44 am

is it catini? or kittyni?

either way – lurve it NTMTOM!!!
