I agree with mimi. We are responsible for what our pets way. That is deplorable. Who on earth thought this was appropriate for CO? Kitty needs some serious help.
Not cute. Cannot tell you how much I hate coming to this site and having to look at animals that haven’t been taken better care of. Please put crap like this behind a cut.
Kudos to the owners for trying to help him lose weight. Its a tough process and I wish them well. I’m working on it with one of my babies right now. How about showing some support for the people who are trying to fix the issue – much better loving support than cruel assumptions and angry judgements. (and even a chubby cat can be cute.) I’m cheering Digweed and his family on! Go Digweed!!
[Milo & everybody -- agreed. Meanness toward this kitty & his family won't be tolerated. Got my finger on the "unpublish" button. - Ed.]
Some kittehs are just chubby, diet or no. At five months my Thomas turned into a little balloon overnight, vloof. No overfeeding involved, his sister eats almost as much and remains sleek and trim. He’s just a large, Ragamuffin type kitteh with extra snorgling surface. The thing is to make sure they get enough exercise.
Looks exactly like my father’s sweet Alex. He was a big boy but we eventually got him down to a svelte 17 lbs before the vet said that was enough. Unfortunately, part of the problem turned out to be a congenital heart issue – a small heart but boy, did he love XXXL.
Good luck with the dieting. I’m doing the same with mine & you’d think it was inhumane torture the way she carries on.
One TIP, I have an enrichment toy which is a cylinder with a small hole. I put dry in it and if she’s really that hungry, she has to work for it.
And thanks Meg, we haven’t had an AIRPLANE joke in awhile.
Aw sweet kitty! Let me pet you and kiss you, then chase you back and forth for a little romp through the house a couple of times — it will do us both good, perhaps with catnip. Then let me pet you some more, and let’s take a little nap.
I’m praying for you and your family, kitty cat!
Try putting Digweed on a low carb diet. When my kitty became diabetic he went on a no grain cat food. There are several good foods. He is on Innova Evo. He immediately lost weight and his sugar level became normal without insulin. Kitties should not have grain in their cat food. This is part of the reason for the epidemic of feline diabetes. If you want more information just Google a phrase like “feline diabetes grain in cat food.”
That’s a delicious looking cat loaf. I’d like him on my lap with a side of curled up hamster, paws up please.
My mom’s cat Belle is a round pudgy cat and she is not too happy with her new diet. She enjoys the extra play time but growls when she eats her Kitty Slimfast or whatever it’s called. I feel her pain.
I bet Digweed gets loads of hugs. Look at that adorable face!
SandiDQ – very good suggestion. Some dogs can’t handle grain, either, it may be part of their breed. It’s a little tricky to find the proper food, but it makes a HUGE difference. Digweed will be less huge, actually, and a happier cat! Oh, and I just have to comment on the cat: what a name!! Why Digweed?!

“I’m doing the same with mine & you’d think it was inhumane torture the way she carries on.”
I’m with you on that Kar! My kitty is currently quite trim, and his diet maintains his weight quite nicely. However, if it were up to him, he’d be twice his weight by now! And he wails and cries and begs as if I am starving him.
Well maybe he likes to dig in the garden with his owner. WE had a kitty like that his name was tuffy he liked to get into any hole you were digging in the garden and dig too.
And chase baseballs my girls were throwing to practice.
Two things came to mind when I saw this picture.
1) What an ADORABLE face! I just wanna sweep him into my arms and cover him wif kisses and other snorgling type activities.
2) Dune
Aw, I have a cat like this. He would eat his food and push his “sister” out of the way to get hers also. I always thought it was cuz he was starving when we found him. I put the big guy on a diet, got him a big old cat tree to play in and took him outside on a leash for walks. He’s doing great now, but I still have to keep sissy’s food away from him.
Agree with SandiDQ. If the first incredient in your cat’s food is corn or any kind of grain, get another food. Even so-called Science foods that vets recommend have too much grain. The first ingredient should always be some kind of protein. Also, if you only feed your cat dry food, you increase the chance of obesity and urinary problems. It may seem counter-intuitive, but a little HEALTHY wet food or scraps of chicken will do wonders for “little” Digweed’s figure.
Digweed, I feel for you… I need to lose weight myself!
Our Henry tends to plump up, and one thing we found that helps is an automated feeder that dispenses a small amount of food three times a day. You can control the amount of food and the number of feedings; we found that three small feedings worked better for Henry than one large one.
The feeder is much stricter about the amount served than I was, and it also only gives Henry food at the scheduled times–no matter how pitifully hungry he looks.
I just want to say that this kitty’s full figure reminds me of my dear departed Katrina. I’ve had kitties all my life and I had Katrina from the time she was 6 weeks old. Although she was very active (more so than many skinny cats I’ve known!) and didn’t overeat, she became extremely overweight at about 1 year old. I gave my friend the highest quality food and care available, but Katrina died suddenly at 5 years old, weighing 22lbs. An autopsy revealed an enlarged heart – a genetic condition that should have kept her from living beyond 1 year. A fat cat isn’t always a sign of bad parenting.
I really hope that Digweed has a “kitty udder” when he loses the weight. Studies show that the appearance of cats is objectively improved by 64% when they have the udder-waddle thing.
Awesome calls on the Kilban Cats! I know this chubster’s favorite song!
“Oh, I love to eat dem mousies
Mousies what I love to eat
Bite them tiny heads off
Nibble on they tiny feet”
Oh, and first the earth cooled, and the then the dinosaur kitties came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and turned into oil, and then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes-Benzes, and than Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di’s clothes, I couldn’t believe it!
Actually, Digweed has a great life, despite his size. I babysat him once and he was all over the place – very playful and into everything. He can jump remarkably high, too. He’s a great, happy cat!
The great thing about an automated feeder is that your cat *might* stop associating you as the provider of food and therefore *might* stop coming after you when getting the 3 am munchies. Or not.
we have one of those … we peaked at 26 pounds and we are now down to 24 and counting. It is hard to resist chubby kitty belly but i’d like our fatty catty to live for a long long time, so diet it is!
OMG I thought someone took a picture of my kitty Shelby and posted her on here – they could be twins with that sweet precious face. I wonder if it is an inherited trait of tiger tabby’s to be so overweight. Unfortunately, my sweet Shelby is 17 years old and lost all her weight and then some in the last year because she developed hyperthyroidism which is very common in older cats. She is on medication and still as sweet and loving as ever and her paunch is a reminder of how chubby she used to be. I couldn’t get over how much Digweed looks exactly how Shelby used to, their faces are still like twins…
Awwwww, if he was mine I would be tempted to call him ‘you fat lard’– only in an affectionate tone of voice, the way I call my actual cat ‘fartypants.’I’m glad they’re working on his diet – he looks like a very nice cat.
Yes! Yes! Wannadance!!! You’re the first person I’ve heard besides myself who deplores the use of “their” as a singular, gender-neutral possessive. It drives me nuts!!!
And for those of you who are interested, there is a web site called catinfo.org that discusses what cats should and should not be eating. I’m about to change my cats’diet. We’re being snookered, esp. by the dry cat food industry, even the so-called “Science” brands.
And Digweed, as a former fatty, I can totally relate. You’re adorable, no matter what your size.
Good luck with the diet, kitty! My sadly departed and very much missed kitty was a ginger blimp when I adopted him from a relative. The vet put him on a diet, and although he lost about a third of his body weight, he was a nightmare to live with. He was incredibly grumpy and launched sneak attacks on me and my food. It’s hard to eat with a 15lb cat standing on your shoulder swiping at your fork.
such a sweet sweet baby kitty.
that is such a bad angle for him, the camera adds at least 15 lbs, you could have photographed his good side, a different pose would have been more forgiving, how would YOU look flattened out on the floor?, the horizontal stripes add girth.
I love this kitteh, he just needs to play more that’s all. (and he should probably be checked for thyroid disease, but his coat and eyes look real pretty so…) I would really like to see some more photos of this lil angel!
lol @ 3quartermoon… ‘hey guise don’t worry the cat’s not unhealthy because this one time i hung out with him and he was like running around and playing and stuff’
I have a hamster this size. She eats roughly half of what my other skinny hamster eats and is still roughly the size of a small manatee. Give Digweed a break– he’s just naturally big-boned! And adorable! Good luck with the diet, Digweed. If you find something that works keep me posted– I could stand to lose a few, too.
Aww, what a chunk.
My daughter’s cat is a chunk too (not quite this big). We call him Tubby. Dunno how he got so large, he is on the same diet as his sister, and she is not chubby at all.
I put it down to his inactivity. When he was a teeny kitten (about a month old) his head got stepped on as he was charging across the room, and my husband stepped down. Hubby didn’t see him coming, and couldn’t feel Tubby under his foot (since it is a prosthetic).
Tubby had to have medication to prevent his brain from swelling and stay in the hospital for 2 days (no skull fractures). Since then he has been very cautious, doesn’t run anywhere, and doesn’t play much.
So, you never know what the story is, Tubby isn’t overfed, but is still overweight (and under the care of a vet who isn’t concerned about his weight at this time).
Digweed’s mom should take away his car keys to stop his midnight runs to the local burger joints. And take away his cell phone so no more pizza delivery.
Digweed, you are a hunka hunka burning puddy tat! I would love to rest my head on your purring side. Yitzy is headed in your direction and the treadmill videos gave hubby and me a very good idea. Now we just have to figure out how to get the Yitz running on said treadmill….
OMG, it looks like it just got pulled out of the oven…a little loaf. i love fat animals…its a curse. One of my fav. articles of all time is all about how fattycake animals are the best!
Sorry, but I don´t find obese animals cute. Although Digweed here is a beautiful kitty (I say that about ALL kitties), his owner should *seriously* do something about the overweight problem…
Or maybe Digweed simply has a very *small head* for his body?
As an ex-clubber, I have to correct the above post that says Digweed is an Australian rave DJ. He’s actually a UK progressive house DJ, first name John. I have spoken with the man several times and is as sweet as Digweed the cat looks, if not quite as heavy.
My little Skoona was getting rotund, and although it’s hard not to feed her at the end of the day when she begs me to, she has lost 2 lbs (1 more to go!) and her energy is off the charts! I can tell she feels better, and I imagine her little heart and joints working a lot better.
@Rachel – my boy is at a good weight for his age, but he, too, would just eat all day if I let him. He’s slightly less active now at thirteen (I stress “slightly”, you wouldn’t know he’s a middle-aged man), but still insists that he’s underfed, wailing every time I go to the kitchen (and heaven forbid I open a CAN because CANS contain TUNA. Even if they contain hearts of palm or corn). If I do give him extra, or if I overdo the treats, he puts on weight fast; it’s not worth it for me to risk his health.
(I’m glad Digweed’s owners are doing something for him! He’s a beautiful kitteh)
lol @ nottmi. Didn’t say he’s healthy, just said he is active regardless of his weight. He’s definitely overweight, but also a big friggin cat. My point is – he’s fat, but by no means miserable.
wannadance, I’m with you too! if you have to be PC, “his or her” is the only way to go (or the trans. “zis”, if your super progressive), but “their” is plural! i got in an argument with someone about this on a blog, and he said he was right because it said so in the dictionary (he was really condescending about it). when explained to him the difference between a “descriptive” and “prescriptive” definition and then quoted Strunk and White about how using “their” this way weakens ones prose, he ceased to respond.
in other news, you can do it, Digweed! Our Petra was over 16 lbs. last September. we were feeding her what seemed like minuscule amounts of dry food. the vet had us switch to we, lite food (half a can in the morning and half in the evening), and she is now just about down to 14 lbs. and counting. her energy level is way up and, best of all, she can clean her own butt!
Ahem. that’s “wet” food. And I realize the number of typos and inconsistent capitalization in my comment weaken considerably the strength my arguments about grammar…
Barbarella: the post clearly indicates that the cat has been put on, not just a diet, but a “super diet.”
My cat Harpo was quite big, he get up to about 20 pounds, and he was beautiful. He died peacefully when he was about 8. Rider was also quite large and had a bit of pudge, and he lived to 14 (and his weight did not contribute to his passing, he had cancer). But both of them were active, playful cats. Best of luck, Mr. Weed.
And Meg is loved forever because of the Stephen Stucker reference.
Awww, sweet lil’dumpling! I gives you kisses! None of my kitties got big, unlike all of us! We didn’t limit them, they just didn’t get too anxious, I guess!
Mizzy: They didn’t intentionally ‘do this’to their cat, and they’re putting him on a diet. Jeez. Reading comprehension.
‘After’photos of a fitter Digweed would be awesome.
that’s animal abuse. I don’t find it cute at all.
Poor Digweed – I’m in the same boat.
Let me know if you need a diet buddy.
@ mimi
How is it animal abuse? It’s not like they forced the cat to eat until it was so big.
This cat reminds of my cat Smokey. She isnt as big but she is getting there lol!
I agree, it is animal abuse and total laziness on the owner’s part. Are they aware how difficult it is to get a cat to lose weight because of the potential complications of fatty liver disease?
Looks like a family cat we had that had a thyroid problem. She was this size despite being on a strict diet from kitten hood. Let the nuffing begin!
I agree with mimi. We are responsible for what our pets way. That is deplorable. Who on earth thought this was appropriate for CO? Kitty needs some serious help.
One hell of a nice animal,
frequently mistaken for a meatloaf. – B. Kliban
It’s a meatloaf!
NUFF NUFF NUFF !!!!
SOMEBODY PLEASE give that poor baby a treadmill with a fuzzy mouse toy hanging in front of him/her ! STAT !
Not cute. Cannot tell you how much I hate coming to this site and having to look at animals that haven’t been taken better care of. Please put crap like this behind a cut.
iamk9mom:
Who an Earth thought this was appropriate for CO? Obviously Meg did, or else she wouldn’t have posted it.
- Ed.]
darling little kitty face trapped in such a fat body! I bet his quality of life is less than optimal and that just makes me sad.
[As stated in the post, he's being taken care of... - Ed.]
poor babee. diet now. no tunaz.
go digweed! you poor chubster mcpudgersons!
i hope we’ll get updates of his success dieting program and the return of his legs!!
Sweet little chunk… good luck with the dieting!
I found my new pillow.
Oh, ze chunky chunky meatloaf blob! *snorgles*
Digweed, my two meatloafs feel your pain. They are currently dieting and are in ze most foulest of moods.
Parents of Digweed … I feel ya, too. Let us know how it goes!
One hell of a nice animal, frequently mistaken for a tractor-trailer.
Now that’s a BIIIIIG cat!
SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD
Some kittehs are just chubby, diet or no. At five months my Thomas turned into a little balloon overnight, vloof. No overfeeding involved, his sister eats almost as much and remains sleek and trim. “All right, I’ll need three men up at the tower. You, Neubauer. You, Macias.”
“Me, John, big tree!”
No nuffin’the Digweed! There’s just more of him to luuuuurve!!! I luuuurves me some Digweed. I wants to keess hees nose.
Surely Digweed can’t be that big!
Digweed is that big, and stop calling me Shirley.
That is the most angelic kitty face ever.
Oh goody, are we doing “Airplane”? What it is, big mama! My mama no raise no dummies. I dug her rap!
Awww! There’s enough of him to share! I bet we can get four or five faces snorgling at once!
Digweed hasn’t dug any weeds for a while
WOW that’s a big meatball!
He looks so soft a s squashy aww
Aw sweet kitty! Let me pet you and kiss you, then chase you back and forth for a little romp through the house a couple of times — it will do us both good, perhaps with catnip. Then let me pet you some more, and let’s take a little nap.
I’m praying for you and your family, kitty cat!
I’m just wondering how to pull off some sort of crossover reference, encompassing both the silly movie and the Australian rave DJ.
It’s a blimp with a cat head!
(More to love, right?)
That’s totally ‘shopped- I can tell by the pixels.
What a beautiful cat! Whoever snapped this pic did a great job!
I really don’t think that’s cute, I think it’s sad
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit huffin’kitteh.

I hope he gets better! We want him to stay with us as long as possible!
Digweed IS the perfect Kliban cat – good call Biscuithead!!

I’m rooting for Digweed and his diet plan!
That’s sad, you should be careful not to let your kitty get so big in the first place but it’s good your doing the right thing now.
my kittens have the opposite problem.. no matter how much I feed them they just say super skinny… whipper snappers… *Grummble*
How weird, how come his face is thin? Is this shopped??
Kitty looks like one of those pythons that swallowed something really big whole.
Notice anything (or anyone) missing around the neighbourhood?
“Digweed . . . I’m sorry to tell you that you are NOT the Biggest Loser.”
I think you’re beautiful, Digweed! Roly poly flufftastic kittums!
Why does society put so much pressure on kittehs to be thin?!?!?!
J/K on the kitteh, but srs about society liking thin in generals. Rarr.
Well maybe he likes to dig in the garden with his owner. WE had a kitty like that his name was tuffy he liked to get into any hole you were digging in the garden and dig too.

Being a big girl myself, I can appreciate Digweeds roundness!
Let’s hear it for chubby – but healthy kitties!
and awesome on the Airplane refs.
He’d probably look thinner without the stripes. A basic black cat always looks more svelte.
Oh, good Lord. OK, I am a fat cat and I am named Katrina, but I intend to stay on this plane of existence for many years to come. Spooky.
Digwed will do fine once they get him on the correct fud- “Oh, please, oh please, oh, please.”
Awesome calls on the Kilban Cats! I know this chubster’s favorite song!
“Oh, I love to eat dem mousies

regardless of size or alleged size, this is one gorgeous cat. the colors!! the fur!! the eyes!!
i need to lose ‘a few’, so i can diggit. agree on protein.
but lordy, cat looks royal…
wooed by color,
dancer
Oh, and I promise – NO PHOTOSHOPPING on this photo! Digweed’s just a big boy!
OMG I just want to pick him up and carry him around…even though Digweed would probably hurt my back.
I love him! More to love! Bring on the hefty kittehs!
As my brother would say, “what a meat blimp!”
The great thing about an automated feeder is that your cat *might* stop associating you as the provider of food and therefore *might* stop coming after you when getting the 3 am munchies. Or not.
Hey, hey hey got some Kitteh twinkies today.
we have one of those … we peaked at 26 pounds and we are now down to 24 and counting. It is hard to resist chubby kitty belly but i’d like our fatty catty to live for a long long time, so diet it is!
please classify digweed as “cute or sad?”
Fatty McButterPants
I am not going to nuff the kitty, BUT, the grammarian in me MUST point out that the hovertext SHOULD say, “FEWER pictures…”
There. I feel better now.
Aww, c’mere kitty, I shall pet your big belly.
I couldn’t get over how much Digweed looks exactly how Shelby used to, their faces are still like twins…
Looks like the cat bus is full today, Mei.
FAT. CAT.
Shoot, I overfilled the loaf pan again!
Cute, chubby kitteh!
Kitteh needs a workout routine like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVjzd320gew
loaf pan —> muffin top? eh? eh?
does this picture remind anyone else of those 80′s glamore shots lol
Kristabelle- I am with you, my friend in grammar, but there are others who, not very tactfully, will disagree with us. Beware.
Nice loaf kitty, I bet he’s warm on one’s lap! (Or maybe two’s lap.)
Katrina — internet cats aren’t generally known for their grammar.
this photo makes my heart hurt, no kitty should be that large. those eyes…
Here kitteh, u can haz some of mah puddins. Iz sugar-free, so iz okay.
Awwwww, if he was mine I would be tempted to call him ‘you fat lard’– only in an affectionate tone of voice, the way I call my actual cat ‘fartypants.’I’m glad they’re working on his diet – he looks like a very nice cat.
krista and katrina:
FEWER!! yes, yes.
drives me nuts and is everywhere, along with ‘their’used with singular antecedent…
and….
oh, stop that, dancer…nobody cares. snif.
Awww….THAT’S the definition of “Cute or Sad?”
WHOA. That’s a big cat.
Yes!
It’s hard to eat with a 15lb cat standing on your shoulder swiping at your fork.
sometimes when you digweed, you also dig snacks…
such a sweet sweet baby kitty.
that is such a bad angle for him, the camera adds at least 15 lbs, you could have photographed his good side, a different pose would have been more forgiving, how would YOU look flattened out on the floor?, the horizontal stripes add girth.
I love this kitteh, he just needs to play more that’s all. (and he should probably be checked for thyroid disease, but his coat and eyes look real pretty so…) I would really like to see some more photos of this lil angel!
All kinds of wrong.
Bwa? He looks just about the right size to me! Hee! (loves chubbeh kittehs)
Wow, that looks almost exactly like our own cat Stewie. Same color, same markings, same weight!
But you have such a pretty face
Kitty can come to my house and use the Wii Fit. Though he may have trouble with some of the yoga positions that require standing on one leg.
Just say supersize kitteh! With spuersize fries and a drink.
lol @ 3quartermoon… ‘hey guise don’t worry the cat’s not unhealthy because this one time i hung out with him and he was like running around and playing and stuff’
or rather, lol if it weren’t too sad.

I love you forever for the Airplane! reference.
How is is possible that Digweed doesn’t have any double chins? His face is astonishing.
Looks like Digweed picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
One of my fav. articles of all time is all about how fattycake animals are the best!
http://seafoodpunch.com
it’s called squishy something or other…
Digweed, cut out the deep fried Mars bars.
Sorry, but I don´t find obese animals cute. Although Digweed here is a beautiful kitty (I say that about ALL kitties), his owner should *seriously* do something about the overweight problem…
Or maybe Digweed simply has a very *small head* for his body?
“Try putting Digweed on a low carb diet”
Que? Cat food doesn’t have carbs in it around here.
Tomcats often go fat when they’ve been neutered, it can’t really be helped.
This cat is the perfect complement to my parents’cylindrical corgi-mutt. Someone should introduce them to each other.
………I think he digs bacon more than weeds!!
Did Captain Sully put Digweed down in the Hudson? Or is that just a rippling blue comforter?
<3 Digweed!
Awww… poor big guy…. *snorgle snorgle*
As an ex-clubber, I have to correct the above post that says Digweed is an Australian rave DJ. He’s actually a UK progressive house DJ, first name John. I have spoken with the man several times and is as sweet as Digweed the cat looks, if not quite as heavy.
/dance music nazi
[Ah, OK. I stand corrected. In the corner. - Ed.]
Hey that cat is kinda fat. Anyone notice?
somebody tell me how to fry a Mars bar…QUICK!!
[I think it must involve batter and preliminary deep-freezing, like with fried ice cream... - Ed.]
My little Skoona was getting rotund, and although it’s hard not to feed her at the end of the day when she begs me to, she has lost 2 lbs (1 more to go!) and her energy is off the charts! I can tell she feels better, and I imagine her little heart and joints working a lot better.
um….make that ‘QUICKLY!’
Ugh! Why do people let their cats get like this?
Deep fried mars bar = you coat it in batter before frying. So I hear…
lol @ nottmi. Didn’t say he’s healthy, just said he is active regardless of his weight. He’s definitely overweight, but also a big friggin cat. My point is – he’s fat, but by no means miserable.
You’re just big boned!
wannadance, I’m with you too! if you have to be PC, “his or her” is the only way to go (or the trans.
My vet teasingly calls Digweed-shaped felines (include my cat in this group) …”ticks”!
Digweed should get together with my Ollie! They could workout to Suzanne Sommers tapes. Anyone have a kitty-sized thigh master? LOL
Kudos to Dig and his peeps! Woo!
My friend Rhylee, who is 9, looked at this and said “is it stuck in a beehive?”
Why do people do this to their cats?!
Wow. This is my cat’s fat twin. So cute and chubby!
Mizzy: They didn’t intentionally ‘do this’to their cat, and they’re putting him on a diet. Jeez. Reading comprehension.
‘After’photos of a fitter Digweed would be awesome.
