Peeps, I just want to take this opportunity to announce that I have enrolled in a distance learning program to become certified as a vet tech! I have a bachelor’s degree, but it’s in English, and while I’m personally proud of the accomplishment, it hasn’t been much good for getting a job. So I’ve been working in the medical billing salt mines for 7 years, and the time has come for a change. The only thing I’m unhappy about is that at the rate I’m going to be able to afford to take classes, this “two year” degree is going to take longer than that. But all of my core curriculum stuff should transfer, and in Level 2-4, students are required to be employed at least 10 hours a week by a vet practice. So in the not-too-distant future, I will get to work with animules!
Comments on the above: Yeah, babies in striped jammies always make me think of “Labyrinth,” too, and how I always yell at Jennifer Connelly’s character, “You had the choice between David Bowie and the baby…and you chose the baby?!?”

The temporary protection order has been ordered. No word yet on whether it has been served.
It is NOT fun to date a guy, have this happen, and then have to do all the court stuff.

I’ve worked as a tech for 15 years and I wouldn’t want to ever do anything else.Just remember that it’s not all puppehs and kittehs…there’s a lot of poop, pee, vomit, snot, drool, anal gland goo, and sometimes those puppehs and kittehs want to eat you! Just remember to repeat to yourself as your rolling around on the ground trying to restrain a Rottie for a blood draw “I love my job! I love my job!”

Auntyb, I’m familiar with all the byproducts that aren’t so Qte. I have a feeling the part of the job that will probably get to me is the pet owners. But as Theresa said, dedicating my life to the care and maintenance of the Qte: that’s pretty cool. Thanks for putting it that way.
Part of my decision came from the experience we went through with three different vets during Philo’s illness. The vet techs I met seemed so dedicated and like they truly loved their jobs. I wanted to know what that felt like, just once.
I’d like to become a veterinary RN, but in order to do that I would have to move about four hours south and go to Texas A&M, the only vet college in Texas. Sigh.
I think the parents of that poor, poor baby should be locked up and never let out!! How could they do that to a little defenseless creature? Those PJ’s are HORRIBLE!!

This makes me laugh, only because just morning we were trying to keep my nine month old daughter from grabbing my in-law’s patient dalmation, and I just kept thinking about trying to take a cute picture of her and the dog, and it ending up on CuteOverload with all sorts of people saying that she’s not cute. We’d try to get cute pictures oh her with our cats, but the cats want nothing to do with her and stay away from her as much as possible. Works out pretty well that way for everyone, actually, and the cats get in all the snuggles they can with my or my husband while the baby sleeps!
I am Silent Meow until attacked. Then this little kitty roars and shows fangs!
This will likely catch him (the assailant) by surprise—when the police show up at his door with the temporary protection order and the date of his court hearing.
(And the fact that he would have to miss work if he showed up to the hearing is an added bonus.)

Silent Meow – I’m a law student, and when I did Legal Aid work I sat in on a lot of DV cases. Made me change from criminal to civil law.
Hang in there and be tough. The fact that you actually WENT through the process of getting a protection order makes you braver and stronger than many. Good on you.

Are you getting emotional support? It can help just to talk to an understanding person–some kind of caring counselor/hot line or support group–the United Way in your area may put you in touch with a phone-counselor/hot line which usually respects your privacy. Please excuse if you don’t need this suggestion.
Silent Meow, let me add my best wishes to everyone else’s. I’m so proud of you for standing up to this creep and letting him know his actions are unacceptable! It’s sad when women refuse to press charges because they’re afraid of their abusers, or because they think they “deserved” it, or because they’re afraid of being alone if they lose him. It empowers these beasts to keep on doing it, and that’s how the cycle gets passed down to the next generation. Good for you for standing up for yourself. You deserve to be treated with love and respect!

I don’t know why, but that has to be one of the most inherently, endearingly cute pictures I’ve seen in a long time! I don’t know if I wanna blow razzberries on tummehs, or hollah “NAPPY NAP TIME!” or what, but my GAHD, that is just darn CUTE! and hysterical!
Just letting everyone know, I have been talking with a lot of hotline counselors and whatnot, and am also having someone (a licensed counselor who is well educated about DV) speak to the church that is allowing my attacker to continue to go there and that advised me to go there too and said that it’s OK as long as I don’t sit near him. BAD advice! The attacker and the victim should NOT go to the same church for safety reasons because there is always the chance that he could attack again, and the next time could be worse! I have of course changed churches. It’s awful how some churches treat DV survivors, and changing this has proven to not be an easy task. I have made Youtube videos and Myspace videos on this.

I really hate DV, I lived it for 18 years in my own home of origin. Nobody can take your right to safety away, nobody! Keep safe, keep sharing! Anyone else who has an abusive relationship- there are ways out where you (and kids) are safe. End the destructive behavior and you will be a happier healthier person for it and so will the kids!
