Whatever the case is, the reality of the matter is that these animals end up somewhere, at shelter doorsteps or near dumpsters. That’s where….

That doesn’t make the temperature ok for the bunny as it induces shock in such young critters, which more often than not is fatal. Being more susceptible to heat doesn’t make the cold temperature safer for the bunny. Just because 45 degrees is a safe temperature for a human being (or a larger adult animal used to that temp) doesn’t make it safe for a lone vulnerable bunny.

I didn’t say the person was heartless and cruel. Those are your words, not mine. I said there ARE alternatives that the person didn’t take (whether it was the owner or not). And having seen this scenario first hand play out literally hundreds and hundreds of times over the course of one year alone, I get bothered by it. When you’ve dealt with your fair share of animals being dropped off somewhere, you’d get upset by it too. Trust me, people *always* have a “reason” for not taking the alternative route when one is always available (such as 24 hour vet clinics, which are available in Hollywood, CA). Being the owner or not has nothing to do with it.

It just makes me sad that there is more defense for the people who could have done something more rather than for an animal who could do nothing for itself. Anyway, I will rest my case now…as my point has been made already. Thank you to those who do make the extra effort.

I’m so very sorry about poor little Snowball.

My Pepper-Bunny was dumped in a public park but was found by Animal Care and Control in late November in Chicago. Her story could so easily have ended like Snowball’s, but she was lucky. She made it into a rescue program and was spayed and then spent nearly a year in the shelter before I came along to take her home and spoil her rotten. She has pasteurella, so I have no way of knowing how long she will be with me (though at the moment it’s under control) but she will be loved every day of the rest of her life.

Very sad news that Snowball didn’t make it… tears on my face … I will miss Snowball cute face.

Poor bunny. How could anyone abandon pets! I hate them. Boo. Hope the bunny are jumping and happy now.

First let me say that it’s very sad news that the bun did not make it. It was very young and probably was not ready to be separated from its mother yet.

As for its demise, we don’t know what caused it, but we do know that bunnies are far more susceptible to heat than to cold.

As to the judgements being made to the person dropping said bunny off, how do we know this person was the owner of the bunny? Perhaps this person found the bunny? Perhaps the mother of the bunny was killed and the person was trying to do the right thing by bringing it to the shelter? Perhaps was doing the best they could with the time and resources they had available to them?

Do we even know how long the bun was was there before it was found? Perhaps bunny was lost out in the elements for DAYS without food and water before he was found and delivered to the shelter to be cared for?

You see? All sorts of different scenarios can be possible if one does not immediately jump to the worst conclusion that the bunny-dropper-offer is heartless and cruel.

To be honest, buns usually look kind of evil. But this bun was so cute, and I’m so sorry for his loss. I wish I could snorgle him/her and tell her everything will be okay, but I can’t. I’m sorry for this bun..it didn’t deserve to be treated this way. Thanks for your efforts Johanna.
