Band Practice is Canceled Again

"Don’t get me wrong, fellas, I really like the direction you’re taking here.  You’ve got a whole Counting-Crows-meet-The-Banana-Splits-with-a-hint-of-Philip-Glass thing going, and it’s very progressive, I respect that …"

(More like fingers-meet-ears-with-a-hint-of-cerebral-hemorrhaging, frankly.)

"… but darn the luck, I’m behind on my sleep, and I really need to get a few hours of catnapping in before bedtime, so if you could just close the door quietly on your way out, I’d really appreciate it, thanks."

(Works every time, heh, heh...)

That’s one pearl of wisdom, Jenna M.

  1. Knock Knock!
    Who’s there?
    Knock Knock!
    Who’s there?
    Knock Knock Knock!
    Who’s there?
    Knock Knock Knock Knock!
    Who’s there?
    Knock Knock Knock Knock Knock!
    Oh, it’s Philip Glass!

  2. hee hee!
i wanna be pearl right now………..zzzzzz

  3. Drum Kit.

  4. I want to be honk-shuing right now… it’s rainy and gross outside and I’ve got to be out!

  5. Brandi7920 says:

Hovertext made me LOL – seriously. hehe

  6. Cat’s dislike for crappy garage band is beyond measure. He’s complained to the staff. His disapproval has been noted.

  7. The cutest thing about this is the blanket they put in the drum for the kitty to sleep on.

  8. “Oh yeah, one more thing: More cowbell!”

  9. we’ll see what happens when we crank the marshalls up to 11 and set the mice loose on the guitar…

  10. LOL I am with Bri I looked and went well there you go you can tell they are excellent Kitty Parents, they gave the furball his own little blanket in the Drum for maximum kitty comfort. ; )

  11. “a whole Counting-Crows-meet-The-Banana-Splits-with-a-hint-of-Philip-Glass thing…”

This actually sounds fantastic! I hope the kitty’s not a heavy sleeper, cos I really want to hear that now.

  12. Actually guys, they put stuff in the bottom of the drum to kill the reverb and deaden the sound. Kitty was just taking advantage of a serendipitously perfect lair.

  13. Query: Is that a bebeh kitteh on top of the mamah kitteh? Do I see tiny earses silhouetted in the mama’s Axis of Snorgling in pic#1? can someone find out? If that’s the case, then no wonder practice got canceled again! It’s Naptime!

  14. aha! so i did NOT just imagine the Banana Splits!

  15. HAHAHAHA Theresa!!!

  16. aha! so i did NOT just imagine the Banana Splits!

  17. Hon Glad—heheheheh. I got it.

Anner, you did not imagine the Banana Splits. I saw them perform live when I was a kid, or so my parents say.

And I’ve long suspected that cats don’t really dig music. Mine never appreciate my singing.

  18. Purr rum pa pum pum…

  19. Theresa — Theresa — Theresa — Theresa — Theresa — old chestnut LOL.

Hon Glad — ba dum *tssh*

2600 Oakley — kitty’s secretly in a Ramones cover band twice a month.

    Dr. E — don’t fear the sleeper.

Blair — Pixar needs to do this. Or maybe Aardman.

    C-Urchin — are you a fan?

    Pyrit — fur rump *tssh*

  20. PS — I am a rocker. I rock out.

  21. … purr rum pa pa pum!

Thanks for the cat carol, pyrit !

  22. It’s nice to see that Pearl the Cat has humans who provide her with a personalized kitty condo.

  23. What I wanna know: can Pearl Jam?

[She can do it ten times! – Ed.]

  24. She’s with the band, right? Their watch cat, oh yeah.

  25. Bannanna Splits???!!!!! weren’t they, like, animated or something??

  26. You’re thinking of the Gorillaz. 😉

  27. berthaservant says:

Ironically, the cat’s name is Zildjian.

  28. One banana, two banana, three banana, four…

Banana Splits did have animated parts to their show (like Gulliver’s Travels), some mixed live and animated shows, (The Adventures of Huck Finn), and then comedy segments featuring the guys in animal costumes. I know – sounds completely redonk even as I write this up, and I used to love this show.

BTW, hope kitty doesn’t get a headache when he wakes up.

  29. Boomer's Babysitter says:

I’ve heard OF the Banana Splits, but I don’t know if I’ve ever heard them… now I’m curious.

  30. @Boomer’s Babysitter: Hanna-Barbera did release an album of music used on “The Banana Splits.” Much of it was re-released in 1995 on an limited-edition album titled “We’re the Banana Splits/Here Come the Beagles.”

  31. berthaservant says:

    Banana Splits:

Designed for 9 year old minds in the late 1960s by the good folks at Hanna-Barbara and the psychedelically disturbing Sid and Marty Krofft. You have been warned.

[That… was HORRIFFIC. And pixellated. It goes a long way toward explaining Barney and Teletubbies, too… – Ed.]

  32. LisaHoneychan says:

The Bannana Splits were THE BEST ever! Totally cracked-out, 1970’s perfect drug-induced child-scaring goodness.
They still run old episodes on the Boomerang channel, super late-night. Great for laughs, as it’s just SOO 70’s.

I personally loved Adventure Island, with super-young and super cute Jan-Michael Vincent. Hubba-hubba! The 2 Muskateers cartoon was a hoot, as well.

  33. totalee puppy says:

    Good times!

  34. totalee puppy says:

“The kitteh of the band is tired,
and his eyes are growing dim,
    now he’s sleeping in his
there ain’t no one just like him…
My life has been a poor attempt…
    to understand his ways…
I dream that I’m an instrument that the rockin’
    kitteh plays…

  35. The real measure of the Splits influence– notice that that “Tra-la la” tune is the SAME TUNE as the chorus of “Buffalo Soldiers.”

  36. Northern Tigress says:

I love the “Don’t even think about it” expression on kitty’s face in the first pic. tee hee!

  37. Theresa, I has a skeptical.

  38. (throwing hands in the air) Hey, just listen to them. 😉

  39. Eeeek Now I am remembering this show… and Bertha servant… the ear worm. How could you ; )
