Stowaways!

"I gotta get outta this country, Bruce!  The sunshine, the great surfing, the hot Sheilas — it’s all too perfect!"

"Bloody oath, Bruce!  What’s the plan, then?"

And so then we (huzza wuzza fluzza guzza) ...

"We hang out by the airport, hop in some luggage, and shoot through to America!"

"Good onya, Bruce!  Minnesota, here we come!"

Remember, if anyone asks, you're a blow dryer.

Some folks just can’t handle awesomeness, Dan B.

    A blow dryer.

I dunno, a customs occifer would have been pretty blind to mistake one of them beauts for a blow dyer.

  2. 260Oakley says:

They will roo the day they chose Minnesota.

  4. Katiedid says:

Any animal with built in pockets should be allow to travel without visas just because they are so cute!!!!

  5. Katiedid says:

speaking of pockets… would they be considered for ‘pocket pets’??

  6. Camille says:

Wouldn’t they fit in a seat-back pocket? After all, they’re accustomed to riding around in pockets.

  7. debg says:

I want to pack a wallaby. C’mon, nobody would notice.
@260Oakley, you made me swallow the wrong way–tee hee.

  15. Gwyneth says:

Yes, please come to Minnesota! *grabby hands*

  16. steppy says:

But ossifer they provide the perfect fluff to my quilting. Come on one snuggle of my wallaby quilt and you will see there is no other quite as good.

  17. Tanya says:

I must take issue with the implicaction that Minnesota is an unpleasant environment. Why, it’s a balmy 14 degrees Farenheit here today, and maybe by April it will get above freezing.

  18. JL Sigman says:

They need to come to my house in South Carolina instead. Much warmer than Minnesota, and we have beaches!

  19. KPP says:

I can just the imagine the awesome tracks these guys would leave in the snow once they arrived in Minnesota. I’m also amused by the thought of someone staring at said tracks trying to figure out what sort of crazy big rabbit made them.

  20. Berg says:

How come no wallabies ever jump in my luggage?! I must not be hanging out in the right airports…

Those are two different pairs of marsupials, right? Or do they develop white on their schnozzles as they age? The eyes seem to be shaped a bit differently, too.

  21. Theo says:

Agreed, Tanya. It’s not snowing. (yet)

  22. T.U.M. says:

    B-ROO-CE

  23. warrior rabbit says:

@KPP, crazy big mouse. Who boxes. Remember Sylvester?

  24. momof2kitties says:

Hey Tanya, didnja mean “umbrage”? :-)

And we’ve got you beat. It’s a blistering 22F here in Michigan today. I’m thinking about putting on my swimsuit and having a margarita on the deck. Wanna join me? Or maybe we should have a Foster’s in honor of these two dewds?

    *hairdryer* snerk.

  25. JC says:

Such cute alterna-pouches! I wonder if their human caretakers can strap them on like a Baby Bjorn?!?!? (One can hope!!)

  26. wannadance says:

    crikey, mike!!

    good on yew!!

want to get all up in amongst them…

  27. Theresa says:

@Momof2Kitties, reminds me of my grandma, when it went above freezing, would always say “Bikini time!”

  28. mberkie0 says:

When a Kangaroo twists its head, is it a ‘RooBaroo?

  29. Erebella says:

Your mama was a snow blower!…………………..I mean hair dryer!

Sorry, that’s what popped in my head.

  30. Von Zeppelin says:

See, this is why those airport security people always ask if you left your luggage unattended at any time. For all we know, those guys might be the Wallabies of International Terror who are trying to sneak into the Mall of America.

  31. Theo says:

    …”WIT”?

  32. Missy says:

Hooray for Minnesota! We are so glad to have you! I hope you like ice skating.

  33. tankgrrl says:

Boogas that fit in my purse?! Squeee!

  34. Kristabelle says:

Further proof that I NEEEEEEED to get to Australia. The proof just keeps mounting, and yet the money to get there somehow doesn’t. Perhaps I should take up a collection…

  35. harold says:

Minnisota? Are they outa their minds? Peeps, why are you torturing these poor animals. CALL OUT PETA, and the ASPCA for crying out loud.

[Well, *that* may be overstating things a bit... - Ed.]

  36. Nancy says:

Put those sack snacks right on my desktop – stretched! this got me so obsessed with small ‘roos, I went looking around and found http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-551330/Best-mates-baby-kangaroo-wonder-dog-saved-it.html

  37. divinebluesky says:

wull, I’d like to know the story here. Who was the crazy person who put the roos in totes and why did the roos put up with it!?

  38. Theo says:

    They’re accustomed to pouches, DBS.

  39. Juniper Jupiter says:

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! XD!!!

Ya know, I was thinking about the “Bruce’s Philosophers’ Song” and the movie “Real Genius” (They kinda segue with Socrates joke) before clicking on here today! This is too kyoot!!

    I WANT SOME ROOS!!!

  40. Redzilla says:

See? Sometimes good things happen when you leave your luggage unattended…

  41. divinebluesky says:

I guess it’s the handles that threw me, that and the idea of their heads poking out as you carry them over your shoulder :)

  42. Tanya says:

Actually, I think the roos LIKE to be in the totes. When they’re raised by people they’re carried around in a pack worn across the front(of the human). It simulates the pouch environment.

Yay for roo prints in the snow!

Momof2, I’ll take you up on the beer and balm, but may I suggest meeting somewhere in between Minnesota and Michigan, instead? Say…Barbados?

  43. Theo says:

Tanya — funny, you’d think the Lake Michigan carferry would make at least a brief stop in *Barbados*, but it never has for us…

    http://www.ssbadger.com/
    (I blame Wisconsin)

  44. T.U.M. says:

Well, if they’re in BAGS I guess they’re not… *snigger* I guess they’re not *chuckle* they’re not BOX-ING kangaroos! *insane cackle*

  45. abad says:

    I want one.

  46. Leenk says:

“Stop them! They’re carrying scissors and hand cream!!!”

  47. Jennie Mello says:

Makes me want to get a job at the airport, just so I confiscate ‘em.

  48. alex says:

Does anyone remember Kanga and Roo in Winnie the Pooh?

  49. Emochka says:

    Have ‘roos – will travel.

  50. ding says:

Hee Hee, T.U.M. you made me snort soda !!

  51. berthaservant says:

“Do you have anything to declare?”

    “Yeah…we’re ADORABLE!”

P.S. h/t to Teho for being cool

  52. marsheeeee says:

@Nancy – what a lovely story! That needs to go on CO as an interspecies snorgling entry.

  53. Joy says:

Ever think of New England? We’ve got the icy weather of Minnestona in northern New England, the cities of Boston, Hartford, Portland, Providence, Manchster, and lots of things to do. Throw in some mountains for lots of skiing, plenty of coastline and enough to keep these wallabys busy for quite a while.

  54. Suzuka says:

Aw, Minnesota isn’t that bad ;) We just get a bad rep – we’ve had 90° days in January ;) The boys should enjoy the Minnesota beaches though – the land of 10,000 lakes actually has more than 15,000 :D

  55. Fegli says:

This is exactly what it’s like IRL. My friend Kathleen used to walk her pet kangaroo with Heath Ledger back in the day!

  56. lrm says:

I live in MN, and I love little ‘roos! My two dogs love to play in snow, though my kitteh and guinea pigs don’t go out in winter.

  57. Susan says:

Maybe Garrison Keillor could weave the roos into a Lake Wobegon story.

  58. Katrina says:

Beauty thread! I got nothin’, but I’m reading with yes, The Insane laughter oft described above!

Oh, and about New England –far superior to Minnesota even without the lake! *snerk*. Just kidding Theo, just kidding. The joke was just sitting there, someone had to say it.

Cute roos. The Wonder Dog story was the great, too! I’ll take the whole kit and caboodle of them!

  59. Dan Bledwich says:

@Berg: these are indeed two different sets of Joeys that my former-next-door-neighbour hand-raises. The white noses are pretty bloody QTE, are they not? Makes me wanna kiss em!

The backpacks are just a bit of ingenuity on Jane’s part. I remember when she used to make slings for them out of flannel bedsheets or snuggle blanketing, and would hang them from doorknobs around the house/the hills-hoist, to slip into. There is NOTHING cuter than seeing a joey nosedive into a pouch, then come up nose and toes.

Jane has been raising, caring and releasing animals for at least 10 years. Unfortunately she is quite ill at the moment, so I ask that you think of her, COers, and hope she pulls through.

Ehn! Babes in backpacks, travelling across teh werld!

  60. sunnymum says:

Where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, all the children are above average, and all the roos are adorable!

  61. Bsze says:

Well! I think those roos will like just fine in the great land of Minnesota!

  62. sunnymum says:

Dan, thank you for letting us know about Jane. I will certainly include her in my prayers. What a wonderful job she is doing!

  63. Mary (the first) says:

Beautiful roos. I think the one in the bag bottom right looking at us has an “I’m worried about my Jane” look on his/her face. I hope Jane will pull through. Thanks, Dan for the pix!

  64. Theresa says:

@Dan, I’ve seen them do it to their Mom Roos– and they keep doing it until they are almost as big as she is!

  65. Speedmaster says:

    Over the top cute!!!!

  66. pyrit says:

I think they’re asking for 2 tickets to Saskatoon. And 2 pairs of mucklucks, 2 bags of mini-marshmallows and 2 copies of the Wallaby Street Journal.
Or maybe they’re just asking for trouble.

  67. Tanya says:

Minnesota is colder than New England. It’s also 1,000 miles in any direction to get to the ocean from here. New England is WAY awesomer than Minnesota. Feel sorry for me and send me a roosie.

Oh, were we talking about roos?

  68. Tanya says:

Incidentally, do those roos come in Coach bags?

  69. Theo says:

Great Lakes, Tanya. Not to mention > 10,000 smaller ones.
Besides the ocean, you’ve got, what, the Hudson?
    ;)

  70. Theo says:

PS — “Mississippi” has two double-S pairs and one double-P.

  71. Gail (the first one) says:

  74. Theresa says:

Aw, I was witing for Gail (the first one) to larf at me Aussie jokes!

  75. Berg says:

Thanks for confirming my hunch, Dan! And I completely agree that the white noses are adorable.

Best wishes to your friend Jane, and my heartfelt appreciation for all that she has done to help the animals. May she recover quickly and fully.

  76. Gail (the first one) says:

@Theresa: You know you’re my go-to Sheila when the topic is Aussie!!!!!!!!!!

  77. pups'nstuff says:

Those things grow up to be killers!

  78. Rach says:

  79. totalee puppy says:

    the ruse may not succeed…

  80. totalee puppy says:

    Jane,
You are a blessing to animals and to all who care
about them. Caring thoughts are with you as you recover.

  81. cachorro says:

Pyrit–Thanks for the Wallaby Street Journal!

  82. JM says:

I take my 5 kitties for a walk on the farm next door to us every day (the owner doesn’t mind). There’s a mob of kangaroos that are often in there feeding. We don’t get too close, as I want to avoid scaring both them and the cats, but it is priceless seeing the puddies catch sight of them. Yesterday there were no roos but a big old echidna wandering down the hill – the kitties were all WTF…?
