You’re my beeeeeest friend

by Meg on November 26, 2008

Check out this redonk action. Sir Pugsalot with his pal Mount Mastiff. [Shaking head]

Daggwood_and_roca_close_up

You know that Sir Pugsalot is the brains of the outfit, he’s all planning to get a ride on Mount Mastiff to the dog cookie jar and the dinner table for dessert snorfing.

Img_2544

But I bet Mount Mastiff calls the major shots, like where the pair is gonna nap for the day, how much effort to exert in general etc.

Kristin D., Ruhmember that time we scaled Mount Mastiff!?

omg… i want them both.

2 James 11.26.08 at 7:54 pm

That mastiff is a badass looking dog.

3 Julie 11.26.08 at 7:55 pm

Oh my goodness! I’ve never seen such a jolly-looking mastiff before! And this is also the first pug I’ve found to be cute!

4 puglets rule 11.26.08 at 7:55 pm

Nina – so do I!!!

That last shot – too much to handle. Those are two adorable puppers.

5 em 11.26.08 at 7:56 pm

Is that a bowl of giant marshmallows by the fireplace?

6 emudoug 11.26.08 at 7:56 pm

Woah!!! So Cute!

I used to live nextdoor to a mastiff. He was a big horse of a doggie.

7 Lone 11.26.08 at 7:57 pm

Enough wrinkles to populate an elderly home.

8 eikoleigh 11.26.08 at 7:58 pm

CUTE!

9 ceejoe 11.26.08 at 7:59 pm

omg, how much does the mastiff weigh???
they are awesome!!

10 T.U.M. 11.26.08 at 7:59 pm

I have a little weakness for mismate dogs.

11 Jorden 11.26.08 at 8:01 pm

Holy Cow! This is the cutest team! Love them both!

12 Theo 11.26.08 at 8:02 pm

This.
Is.
Awesome.

Nina, me too. James, hell yes. Julie, agreed.

13 Theo 11.26.08 at 8:02 pm

er… and everybody else who got comments up between the time I started mine & clicked the “Post” button. That too.

14 Alex 11.26.08 at 8:05 pm

So not only did these dogs’ owner(s) get both a mastiff and a pug, creating the adorable “mini-me” effect, but they also keep a bowl of marshmallows by the fireplace!? I love them.

15 Trabb's Boy 11.26.08 at 8:05 pm

I shall call him … Mini Me!

Seriously, that wee pup is going to be very disappointed when he reaches full size and is still smaller than his bro’s head.

Awwwwsome!

16 Theo 11.26.08 at 8:06 pm

Oh — and Em? I have no idea what those are. They look like they might be votive candles, or really big hexamine tabs (firestarters?) or possibly just rolled-up socks (firestarters?).

17 NYVenus 11.26.08 at 8:08 pm

OMG….my head just exploded!

18 Theresa 11.26.08 at 8:09 pm

What a huggable looking pair!

19 kaber 11.26.08 at 8:09 pm

Cute, yes. But I find the big guy strangely reminiscent of Jabba the Hut…with a “mini-me”.

20 Theresa 11.26.08 at 8:14 pm

Does Jabba the Hut have such lovely brown eyes? I daresay no!

21 Berg 11.26.08 at 8:14 pm

That last picture slays me! I love the tiny pug head on the meaty mastiff leg…

Apparently mastiffs and pugs do not like untoasted marshmallows. Who knew?!

22 Mary (the first) 11.26.08 at 8:16 pm

I call “matchingks”. Because except for size, they’re practically twins! And I love them both! And I want them both! And I envy them living in a house with a bowl of marshmallows by the fireplace for impromptu toasting!

23 Theo 11.26.08 at 8:17 pm

Matchingks it is. Adding tag now…

24 berthaservant 11.26.08 at 8:19 pm

Twetally “matchingks!” Of course, I hear Sir Pugsalot with a Edward G. Robinson voice (“It’s curtains for you, Mugsy!”) and Mt. Mastiff with a big galoot voice (“Duh, we’re gonna smash him good boss…”). The little dudes always have status!

25 Pheas 11.26.08 at 8:20 pm

I’ll take one in 2T and one XXXL, please.

Definite Rule 7 action, and Matchingks!

Extra bonus: Mastiff can use puglet as a drool rag. You know he’ll need one.

26 Theo 11.26.08 at 8:25 pm

A pug is fine too.

27 ceejoe 11.26.08 at 8:26 pm

ok, nobody has answered my question… seriously, how much do mastiffs weigh???

28 tubbysnuggles 11.26.08 at 8:27 pm

OOOG!!! OMG! I love these! they almost are matchingks but not quite…

so sweet. Best friends no mattah what. I am thankful for these pics today!

29 Pheas 11.26.08 at 8:34 pm

ceejoe, I’ve heard weights as high as 200, but I think 150-175 would be more usual.

30 anastasia 11.26.08 at 8:38 pm

must be tough to climb mount mastiff…..even for a person who is, like, 30 feet tall.

31 Annie 11.26.08 at 8:38 pm

People let me tell you ’bout my best friend,
He’s a warm hearted person who’ll love me till the end.
People let me tell you bout my best friend,
He’s a one boy cuddly toy, my up, my down, my pride and joy.

People let me tell you ’bout him he’s so much fun
Whether we’re talkin’ man to man or whether we’re talking son to son.
Cause he’s my best friend.
Yes he’s my best friend.

Courtship of Eddies Father… I loved that show.

32 Erebella 11.26.08 at 8:43 pm

I love how tolerant big dogs are to small creatures who like to cuddle with them. Soooooo sweet.

33 claudia 11.26.08 at 8:44 pm

LOVE LOVE LOVE them both! Best awww post yet! (I keep saying that lol)

34 Jiffknee 11.26.08 at 8:53 pm

I think the ‘marshmallows’ are really votive candles. you know, for the making of ze romance . . . which puts an entirely different spin on this setting.

Crackling fire, candlight, pinot noir . . . and You!

35 Boomer's Babysitter 11.26.08 at 8:55 pm

I had no idea mastiffs were so BIG. I love him, he’s so sweet with the little guy. Yes, I think I’d like to have both, please. I second (or fourth, or whatevs) that thought!

36 krissiebert - owner of these two dogs 11.26.08 at 8:55 pm

Just following up to all the wonderful comments! These two wonderful dogs are mine: the bullmastiff is Daggwood and he weighs a whopping 209.4 lbs! The pug is Roca (not even close to 290 lbs). These two are best friends and are inseparable, it’s a great combination to have. And the bowl next to the fireplace is full of votives I burn in the fireplace during the summer. So glad you enjoyed the pics!

37 Boomer's Babysitter 11.26.08 at 8:56 pm

I just noticed Sir Pugsalot has a pink collar. Maybe it’s “Lady Pugsalot…”

38 Amy 11.26.08 at 8:59 pm

(really hate to break it to all of you lovely, enthusiastic people, but I do believe what looks like a bowl of untoasted marshmallows next to the fireplace are probably firestarters…)

39 ceejoe 11.26.08 at 9:00 pm

thanks, Pheas, you were right on!
Can you imagine taking these two for a walk?!?

40 Theresa 11.26.08 at 9:06 pm

Krissiebert– they are so velvety-adorable!

41 Wendy 11.26.08 at 9:15 pm

OH MY!

Must

have

one

of

EACH

for my very own self!

42 newlee 11.26.08 at 9:16 pm

my oh my… this squeezes my heart.

if they come spend turkey day here with us tomorrow, they can have first dibs on drumsticks.

nuff pre-emption: yes, i know not to give poultry bones to dogs.

43 Annie 11.26.08 at 9:21 pm

Kissiebert teh puppys (I say that with all the affection in my heart) are dah sweetest buddy pals. and soo cute!

44 smo 11.26.08 at 9:22 pm

mr. gentle giant mastiff is such a dear!! do you SEE how in the last picture he’s holding his head up while napping so his tiny buddy can snuggle up to him riiight there!

45 Trisha 11.26.08 at 9:22 pm

EM–I was thinking the same thing…giant marshmellows for a giant dog!!

46 jrochest 11.26.08 at 9:24 pm

Krissiebert:

They’re delightful, but I’ve got to know — which one is Alpha Dog?

My money’s on the pug, of course. :)

47 scooterpants 11.26.08 at 9:25 pm

i adore the first picture, the Mastiff is all ” I LOVE her SOOOOOO Much! She is my BABEH!”
i have the ‘big dog little dog’ at my house too, they just love each other, that’s all.

48 Krissiebert 11.26.08 at 9:38 pm

LOL, you’re right, Roca (the pug) is totally the alpha! It’s pretty hilarious to see how in control she is. Daggwood eats last, and heaven forbid we pet him before her.

49 Alice 11.26.08 at 9:39 pm

Freakin’. Precious.

50 Colleen 11.26.08 at 9:45 pm

It’s like the cute canine version of Dr. Evil and Mini Me!

51 Meredith 11.26.08 at 9:56 pm

Oh my god.. I rarely loudly “aw” out loud.

AOL!

52 the other Brenda 11.26.08 at 9:59 pm

Are those cheerleading pom-poms??????????????????????? How sweet!!!

53 katiedid 11.26.08 at 10:05 pm

hummm…. bitesize… :-D

54 sunnymum 11.26.08 at 10:06 pm

Oh Krissiebert you are sooooooooooooo fortunate to have such great dogs! I have been comparing their paw sizes and it’s keeeeeling me! Way too cute to see them next to each other. I wonder if Roca ever sleeps on top of Dagwood? Or rides on his back? The big ones are gentle giants; I always wanted a Great Pyrenees.

55 Chasingthedog 11.26.08 at 10:19 pm

That is too freaking cute.

Little Puggleton and Captain Fatstiff (that’s fat mastiff :) )

56 Psilopathic 11.26.08 at 10:22 pm

Awwww, they look just alike (except for about 150 lbs.) They remind me of Ramsey & Pablo (from ramseyandpablo.com)

57 Mary (the first) 11.26.08 at 10:31 pm

Other than the disappointment that those are votives, not marshmallows, I love hearing the details of Daggwood and Roca! Love that Roca is “alpha” .. you go girl! I once knew people with a mastiff/st. bernard mix that weighed about 180 .. she was the biggest coward on earth. Owners said if anyone tried to break in, they’d find the dog trying to get under the bed (of course.. no way!). I loved cuddling with her.

58 starling 11.26.08 at 11:07 pm

Wow, lookit that, pugs are just very small mastiffs. Or mastiffs are really huge pugs. Whatever.

59 M. V. 11.26.08 at 11:13 pm

209.4 lbs….speechless.

60 butterfrei 11.26.08 at 11:35 pm

enh! enh! tttooo cayute!

good thing they’re buddies or else mr mastiff could eat mr pug for snacks.

61 platedlizard 11.27.08 at 12:00 am

Ceejoe, mastifs weigh A LOT! I knew one that as a 12 month old puppy (they’re basically puppies for two years) weighed about 200 pounds, AND HE WAS STILL GROWING! I think they get to be about 200-250 pounds.

BIG.

Fortunately they’re generally really nice and laid back.

62 crazyweinerdoglady 11.27.08 at 12:47 am

THE OTHER BRENDA- Not pompoms, it’s one of those rope bones lol :)

63 Noelegy 11.27.08 at 12:52 am

It’s a canine MasterBlaster!

64 Minya 11.27.08 at 1:01 am

Gawd, I love, love, LOVE Mastiffs. So adorable and drooly. I like to kiss them.

Okay, the pug is pretty dang cute too.

65 Theresa 11.27.08 at 1:38 am

All you Mastiff fans, check out my sweetie-face neighbor:
http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2193635010054217802sHrrrU

He’s a Dogue de Bordeaux, and he loves to bring out his drooly toys to show visitors. ;)

66 Gail (the first one) 11.27.08 at 1:40 am

Congrats Krissiebert on having such CUTE and happy doggehs!!!!!

67 nismo 11.27.08 at 1:42 am

Big kiss for that crinkly muzzlepouch!

68 Gail (the first one) 11.27.08 at 1:53 am

@Theresa: You are lucky to have such a good looking and nice neighbor!!! He probably thinks it would be rude to show you non-drooly toys!!!!

69 Theresa 11.27.08 at 1:56 am

@Gail he’s so unbelievably sweet. I see him almost every morning, and always get a big hello.

70 Gail (the first one) 11.27.08 at 2:02 am

Totally off the subject, but I have discovered another reason to like Martha Stewart: she liked Mystery Science Theater!!! (Apparently, it was the inspiration for the show her daughter is doing where she and her friend mock Martha’s show.)

71 wibbler 11.27.08 at 2:03 am

Dear Meg,

These dogs are adorable :)

I think it would be great to show CO’s support for the people of Mumbai by featuring a peacock and/or Indian elephant.

72 Redbone 11.27.08 at 2:13 am

This is probably a silly thing to say, but I love seeing dogs get along like that. Such obviously different dogs, but they still love each other. Instead of finding reasons to be hateful and idiotic, like most people.

Plus it’s funny to think that little teeny pug is the alpha.

73 gryt 11.27.08 at 2:49 am

I heart Dame Pugsalot and Mount Mastiff. I believe these two will conquer the world. They compleet eachother.

74 chanpon 11.27.08 at 3:00 am

My buddy, my buddy…my bud-dy and meee!!

75 cachorro 11.27.08 at 3:11 am

Katrina-How say you…Pugsalot or Pugsalittle?

76 Shaz 11.27.08 at 3:23 am

I think that the votives looked like marshmallows because of the sheer size of the mastiff! It’s unfathomable. And I think this pug may not be as tiny as some pugs, because she looks tiny, but not SUPER tiny, if you know what I mean.

Anyway. CUUUUUUUUUUTE! awwwwww. AWWWWWWWWWWWWW. !!!

77 Shaz 11.27.08 at 3:23 am

Ok, she does look pretty damn tiny. :)

Awwwwwwwww!

78 Theresa 11.27.08 at 3:24 am

@Wibbler, shocked and saddened by the news of the attacks. All good wishes to the people of Mumbai.

79 williamslijp 11.27.08 at 3:26 am

Biggle and small, Omega and Alpha.

80 ariel 11.27.08 at 3:58 am

BEST POST in a very long time.

81 Katie 11.27.08 at 4:02 am

Unbelievably cute! If anyone’s totally captivated by Daggwood, look up Mastiff Rescue in your area! They always need foster parents– lots of people get these dogs as pups and then give them up when they get big. Applause to krissiebert for giving this guy and Roca McPuggersons a good home!

82 balamuthia 11.27.08 at 4:23 am

This made my evening.

They are an unbelievably adorable pair!

83 Zebra 11.27.08 at 5:20 am

Buy me both for your birthday. :)

84 Hon Glad 11.27.08 at 7:12 am

Offspring between them would not be impossible.

85 Hecticmom 11.27.08 at 7:14 am

I have never posted here before (but, been a LONG time reader.) This is probably the CUTEST thing that has ever been posted!!!!

86 yankeebird 11.27.08 at 7:38 am

Do want.

87 Pups'nstuff 11.27.08 at 9:48 am

Holy Mastiff!

88 scooterboss 11.27.08 at 11:44 am

Cutest. Post. Evar. My little babeh pugs, Hugo & Lola (19 lbs. each), would love to cuddle up and go sleepies with Daggwood and Roca.

89 Barbarella von Fluffenstein 11.27.08 at 12:00 pm

Oooh, another mini-me post today! :D

90 Katrina 11.27.08 at 12:15 pm

Oh, certainly Puggsalot-I’m sure the personality is waaaay bigger than the form.

Wow, I know a family that has a Bull Mastiff- they traveled hundreds of miles to go get him as a puppy- and it was then they saw the parents up close and personal and realized just how BIG their puppy will get! Now with a penchant for TV remote units-the vet had to sedate him to get all of the metal components out from between his teeth- they just adore him. Their life has changed, they have had a baby person since- and the dog has his very own ever-growing skin baby.

I’d love one, just not with you-know-who, that would not be ‘a good fit’, so to speak.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Thursday, peeps!

I have offered up prayers for the people of Mumbai- what people do to each other…no God condones that, for sure.

91 Shoop 11.27.08 at 2:14 pm

It’s shopped.
Cute, but still shopped.

92 ashley 11.27.08 at 3:45 pm

huge dog is huge.

93 Brandi 11.27.08 at 5:03 pm

So awesome that I had to leave a comment. I love this post.

94 Cassie 11.27.08 at 5:40 pm

Cutest post in the world! Love the giant doggie, and the little doggie too. I wish I had room for them in my apartment!

95 Debra E 11.27.08 at 5:46 pm

O. M. G.

I’m ready to dognap them both and bring ‘em home with me. It really doesn’t get much cuter than that.

96 Lara 11.28.08 at 1:55 am

so cute :) definitely like the mini-me effect…

one slight concern… that mastiff is massively overweight! he must have some bad obstructive airway disease and not to mention the strain on his joints. particularly noticeable in the last pic… look at his legs! still very cute though, and i was guilty of having an overweight rottweiler.

and is pug still just a pup? looks young!

97 hamster-on-rye 11.28.08 at 2:56 am

Put your hands together for
“The Bodyguard Song”…
woot woot woot woot…
da da da da…
woot woot woot woot…

“If you’ll be my bodyguard…
I will be your bestest friend…” woot woot woot woot…

98 totalee puppy 11.28.08 at 3:00 am

I have checked out this
redonk action…REDONK!

99 Psilopathic 11.28.08 at 3:53 am

They would have cute pups, but I would hope the pug would be the dad… otherwise she would explode with pups by the second trimester :(
I hope no one would do that, but it’s cute to think of a 150 pound pug.

100 pinkmariposa 11.28.08 at 5:29 am

redonk, redonk
this couple of cuties
really made me smile
and boy did I need a reason to smile.
These two almost knocked
me off my chair.I want
to lovingks them 4evers…
XXXXXXXXXXXOOOOOXXXXXXXX

101 Kylie 11.28.08 at 7:21 am

I personally like how the chew toy is the size of the pug….lucky he/she’s not floofy….

102 ratchic 11.28.08 at 10:54 am

Not that I was looking up close, though I did lean into the screen a little… but aren’t they both females?

103 Theo 11.28.08 at 3:35 pm

Ratchic — nope. Big boy, little girl, no doubt about it.

104 Kristabelle 11.28.08 at 4:58 pm

Our friends rescued a Mastiff mix – and named him Summit!!!
Love the mini/maxi me!

105 HonorH 11.29.08 at 1:31 am

Weird! Pugs become cute in the presence of huge, adorably ugly mastiffs. I’d never have thunk it. Now I wanna mastiff and a pug of my very own.

106 Katrina 11.29.08 at 12:40 pm

I went to Bull Mastiff Rescue

http://www.bullmastiffrescue.com/Available%20Dogs.htm

and I found the most wonderful, awesome list of how to treat a rescued dog. I almost cried. “killer Corgi” is a rescue, and this list is exactly what she go in her new home with us, maybe that is why I cried. Please check it out- and spread it around (with credit to Bull Mastiff Rescue of course). Get set to have a lump in your throat.

107 Eva G. 11.29.08 at 5:16 pm

Absolutely fabulous.
