Sugar Glider Gardening Tip

by Meg on October 5, 2008

Hi, Green Thumb Glider here with your Sugar Glider Gardening Tip!

To grow beautiful Gladiolus flowers that attract butterflies, hummingbirds and um, Sugar Gliders, you’ll need a spot with full sun and good drainage. They’ll hide unsightly walls! They grow from 6 to 9 feet. Plant seedlings 10 inches apart. That’s it!

Hmmm, [grasps blossom with tiny hand] This flower is progressing nicely! [Snorts pollen]

Such a pretty thing, and what neat little fingers.

2 LadyIslay 10.05.08 at 5:10 am

I’m pretty sure that’s a gladiolus, not a hollyhock. They grow from corms (like a bulb).

Hahaha – that one wiry little hair curling up above its head in the first pic!

These are some of the cutest and most beautiful pictures ever on CO. That’s right, I’m using superlatives! The weeskers, the nosicle, the BEF, and the teeny, bony feengers are all conspiring to keel me!

in the first picture, it looks like the sugar glider is wearing a pink dress.

i approve heartily of sugar gliders dressed in pink flower-dresses (and i concur: that’s a glad! though I had hollyhocks this year in the exact same shade as the sugar glider’s flower-dress)

Um, is no one going to mention the typo in the caption?
At least I presume it’s a typo.

18 snorglepup 10.05.08 at 11:58 am

That stray hair on his head…
Cat fur from the dryer!

19 chanpon 10.05.08 at 12:47 pm

It’s killing me that it looks like he fits inside the blossom!

20 Theo 10.05.08 at 1:45 pm

Foxy — you mean it’s sposeta be a Sugan Gliden Garden Tip?

(and all the girlies say I’m pretty fly for a glide guy)

21 warrior rabbit 10.05.08 at 1:45 pm

Hovertext has a typo, too, foxy. (Saw instead of say.)

22 foxy 10.05.08 at 2:04 pm

Teho – that’s exactly what I meant. It’s funny how you read my mind like that.

23 Theo 10.05.08 at 2:14 pm

Read your mind, huh. With the Offspring bit & all. Mm-hmm.

If I *can* do that, y’all better be *very* afraid.

What are the cute rules here?

When your eyes are almost as big as your entire head…

When your paws look like little hands…

When your NOSE matches a FLOWER!?!?!

Ack! Gotta fetch my daughter. She’s a huge sugar glider fan. She’ll know.

Is the caption supposed to be “Sugar Glider GARTER Tip”? I couldn’t even tell it was wearing stockings!!

26 candace 10.05.08 at 4:10 pm

That’s GOT to be on the next calendar!

27 west 10.05.08 at 5:38 pm

LOVE the one little wayward hair in the first two pics. Though, it does look a little like a cat hair gone astray.

28 berthaservant 10.05.08 at 6:22 pm

Sadly, this Sugar Glider was later taken to snorf-hab.

29 Fegli 10.05.08 at 11:45 pm

Waaah!!! Why are these little guys so ridiculously cute?!

30 Tallgeekgal 10.06.08 at 1:17 am

One time I asked someone if he knew what sugar gliders were, and he said, “I assume they’re sort of like Jell-o shooters”. Theriously. I didn’t go out with him again.

31 Sass 10.06.08 at 1:51 am

Aren’t gladiolus(es… ii?) poisonous?

32 Raemie L. 10.06.08 at 7:32 am

Pic 1: Eep, the BEF!
Pic 2: The wavy patagium* (fold of skin on side of body from front paw to back paw) matches the flower’s ruffled edge. Gah, the whole composition’s good!
Pic 3: pollen-snorfer stares into the heart of the flower…
