What is up with EVERY pet being named ‘Milo’?!

Milo this, Milo that, what is the matter with you People, always naming your pets "Milo"?

I get thousands of emails a day with the titles like "Guess what? Milo pooped!" and "Milo has a toehawk LOOK!" and "I chose a unique name for my Kitteh guess what it is!?"

But then THIS Milo came along. In all his stubbular glory.

Thank you.

Thank you, Jen C. Thank you.

  2. leigh-anne says:

besides cuteness upfront, I love the little one in the back!!! He looks like “what about me, why can’t i have my picture taken too =( ?????”

  3. staticgirl says:

Oh but what is the name of the cuteness in the background…..

  4. kim harding says:

Awww but look at little non-Milo in the background. He’s all like ‘I could sit on a cushion too Mummyyyyyyyyyy. I could be on cuteoverload too Mummyyyyyyyyy. Love meee!!’

    Bless!

    xx

  5. Eastie says:

Adorabuhls. That one in the background is getting ready to cause some trouble. I can just tell.

  6. charliewabba says:

Oh, I’m so ashamed. I missed the baby in the back. It was the Evil Ubermilo – he stole my soul.

  7. blair says:

he’s all, “you woke me up for that?”

  8. Kris says:

    I call matching head tilts!

  9. Krista says:

I had a pet parakeet named Milo about 20 years ago. Maybe I was one of the first? I named him after the character in “The Phantom Tollbooth.”

  10. Lurker says:

Sweet, sweet marmie littermates!!! I think my insulin pump just burned itself out!

(I wonder how much the pet naming trend has to do with the puppy-dog eyes of a certain Mr. Ventimiglia?)

  11. Theresa says:

I luve the fur-halo! And of course, the mini-Milo in the background. What’s *his* story? ;)

  12. rissu says:

Remember the movie Milo & Otis about the marmie kitten and pug puppy that went off on adventures? That’s probably my marmies are named Milo!!

  13. Erebella says:

Background kitteh: “Yeah, we’ll see who’s the popular one. You just wait.” *freaky Renfield laugh*

  14. scooterpants says:

i am insanely jealous that jen C has one sunlite marmie kitten (with head tilt), and then ANOTHER poser-marmie (with extremely experienced head tilt action) kitteh in the background.
too much for one hooman i think…

  15. chanpon says:

He is Milo, descended from heaven to grace us with his stubbular cuteness. *harps strumming*

Meanwhile, evil-twin-Milo lurks in the shadows in the background.

  16. Tony James says:

Teh kitteh in the background is actually a future-echo of teh kitteh in the foreground. He’s looking around to see if anyone’s noticed that he’s about to hop on top of that piece of furniture where the fishtank is, under the window, and hopes that his anerabuhls apparition in the foreground will distract you long enough for him to achieve this.

These are marmies, people – if they appear not to be up to something it’s because they’re thinking about getting up to something. Don’t be fooled by the head-tilt and the supplicant-eyes – tehy are eeeeeeeeeeeevils!

  17. tracyFlick says:

Two Milos for the price of one. CO discount.

  18. cubbybutt says:

I enjoy the foreground Milo as well as the background Milo. Milo= codeword for kitteh that steals yer soul.

  19. Not That Mike The Other Mike says:

There’s nothing so odd about that. Kemal Atatürk had an entire menagerie called Abdul.

  20. Elanor says:

How about the other little one? What’s his/her name?

  21. Martha says:

Personally I think that Milo is an excellent name for a kittie but an even better one for oh, say, an eight-year-old black Lab. Whose middle name would be McGregor, as in the farmer in Peter Rabbit. Just saying.

  22. Theo says:

    Elanor –
    FOREGROUND: Milo
    BACKGROUND: Bleenous de Milo

(if you don’t get this, don’t blame yourself; it’s entirely my fault)

  23. Boo says:

Most likely they are all named Milo because of the one of the cutest puppy/kitty movies of all time:

    Milo and Otis

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milo_and_otis

  24. Tony James says:

NTMTOM – which explains why anyone named Eric is automatically known as “Thearfabee”.

  25. joy says:

I WUV this Wittle Baby. It is so cute and da wittle baby loves me too!

  26. scooterpants says:

ya NTMTOM – and george foreman has a house full of boys named george. :)

  27. 260Oakley says:

Theo, have no doubt, you will be severely PUNished for such remarks.

  28. jen says:

what about little fluffypants in the background, he’s all, “what am i? chopped leeever???”

  29. anner says:

background kitteh is in teh background.

  30. Annie says:

Well I was gonna say something clever but then I was done in by the Monty Python Routine Hehehehe

Not to mention the play on Names ala Teho
    and
Chanpon are we sure that the evil twin isn’t the kitty in the sunbeam just disguising himself.. See Tony James Observation about Marmies and their middle name of Trubs!

  31. Hon Glad says:

Not that I am an Antipodean, but Milo is an Australian milk chocolate drink.
This Milo has eyes that burn into your soul. Oh noes, I revealed far too much embarassing detail to the last all seeing kitty.

  32. ThreeCatNight says:

I do know someone who has a child named Milo. I can make an exception in this case with a kitteh-face like that.

“Bleenous de Milo” – Oh, Teho, you rascal!

  33. Jane says:

And I thought we were so original naming our dog Milo! It was after Titus Annius Milo, an ancient Roman assassin.

  34. Juniper Jupiter says:

    Yep! He’s definitely a Milo!!

All he’s missing is a pug-nosed pup and a nest full of baby birds to swat at to tell them to “SHUT UP!!! I’M TRYING TO SLEEEEEP!!!”

  35. catloveschanel says:

hmmm, he looks like the cat who steals your thoughts that was posing about here the other day.

Remember, MILO spelled backwards is Olim.

Speaking of which, can’t we have some Olympic kitties and doggies? Especially swimming. I’m pretty into it this year.

  36. I guess no one is naming their pets Milo after the robot Woody Allen briefly portrays in “Sleeper.”

  37. Tee says:

    Good Gracious at the cute!

  38. Theo says:

Mention that Wood Alien one more time and I’ll bleen you.

  39. Decca says:

NTMTOM, you just made my day. I’d like a license for my pet cat, Eric.

  40. Theo says:

Hunhh. The internet is a strange and wonderful place. All my struggling and here it turns out there’s this whole SOCIETY of weirdos who already know what “bleen” means. Though, they do spell it funny…
    http://www.aracnet.com/~kbuxton/discordia/fnord.html

  41. Not That Mike The Other Mike says:

Decca, I promise you: There is no such thing as a bloody cat license.

  42. ThreeCatNight says:

When I was a young’un we were too poor to bleen.
    * sniff, sniff *
    Ah well, back to work.

  43. Fegli says:

+ Cute points for double marmie action. Ahn…

  44. Ohlookachicken says:

Perhaps kitty in the background has been naughty and must sit in the corner for punishment. I’ll take them both, thanks!

  45. Tony James says:

NTMTOM – there bloody is and I got one, so there. You can’t catch me out on that one.

  46. Theo says:

Look, it’s Peeps like you what cause unrest.

  47. Jenn in IL says:

    A) I loved – LOVED – The Adventures of Milo and Otis…”Gonna take a walk outside today, gonna see what we can find today…”

    B) Theo – ha ha ha!!

    C) The one in the background just makes me think of “Harry Potter”…when Hermione has the Time Turner and they have to go back in time and you see both of them but the past version can’t see the future version? Anyone know what I’m talking about? No? *Sigh*

    D) Um…I don’t know what “bleen” means…I think I missed when that originated. Anyone want to fill me in?

  48. Jenn says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cJ0WxEXVw4

There’s the link to the first part of Milo and Otis, for any of you silly people who may not have seen it before…or for those that want to relive it (as I’m doing now…hee!).

  49. I named my first kitty after Milo Aukerman.

  50. And did you know that “Milo & Otis” is a Japanese film?
    Honto ni!!
The original title is Koneko Monogatari (“kitten tale”)
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097050/

  51. Gadren says:

Ha! What a coincidence… the great cartoonist Kate Beaton just posted a comic about a cat named Milo:

    http://beatonna.livejournal.com/60962.html

  52. Dr. Emile Schufhausen says:

This is Milo’s glamour shot. He’s all backlit and semi-soft focus. “Where’s my boa,” he asks.

My next kitten will be named Garbanzo.

  53. He’s looking like Scarlett Johansson, Doc.

  54. Kar says:

    Milo’s a lot more photogenic.

  55. Gail (the first one) says:

    @NTMTOM, Tony James & Decca:

“Look, it’s people like you what cause unrest.’

Thanks, too, N. for the website!!!!! It will aid my failing memory.

    Semi-carnally?

  56. yellowsneakers says:

My adorable little ball of VICIOUS is named Frank Sinatra; most definitely NOT Milo!

This guy, though — he looks like a Balthier to me.

  57. Alyssa says:

I just read that PETA KILLS over 80 of the pets they rescue. I wish this site wouldn’t support them. Does anyone know how I can get into contact with the owner?

  58. Samantha says:

Milo’s a cute name. I have a cat named Miko, which is pretty close.

  59. Karl says:

What about Catch-22? A cat is pretty similar to the character Milo in the book.

  60. Hon Glad says:

    Karl: Cats-22 surely.

  61. gooeyctr says:

    Matchingks, no?

  62. Barbarella says:

Cause Milo is just the cutest name (*drools when thinking of Milo Ventimiglia – Peter from Heroes*)….

But oh, Milo´s twin in the background is just as cute!!!! Why doesn´t he get any mention?! Awwww. :)

  63. Tony James says:

    Gail – no, Cyril Connelly.

  64. Kimski says:

OMG Milo has a doppleganger. Don’t look Milo!
    It weel keel you!!!!!!

  65. Melinda says:

Look at kitteh in background! I almost missed him! He’s liek, “Oh Hai! What about me?”

  66. Jajeh says:

Where I live (Brooklyn, NY), the most common name for dogs and cats is Max…unless it’s black and white….then it’s Oreo.

  67. Susan says:

    He looks professionally lit.

  68. Theo says:

I’d say the sun earned the right to be called “professional” ages ago. So, sure. ;)

  69. Jen C says:

hi all, this is Jen C, fosterer of milo of this very same photo. imagine my suprise and delight at seeing his photo posted on this venerable site of cuteness! i was floored and honored.

to answer some q’s about these two furballs, MILO and his brother, who’s name was WILEY, were in my care to be fostered. they were both found good homes and have different names now. they were found in a friend’s backyward, wedged between some a crumbling brick wall and some shrubber. mother was nowhere to be found and never came back. so, my friend (knowing i live for these moments) gave them to me to foster and i loved every minute of it (except the minute they left).

milo was a little punk ass and he knew how to work his mojo well. i loved him dearly for it, still do. he got into everything, including a lot of trouble, but he always knew how to set the needle back with moments of sublime cuteness such as this pic (there were many). his brother, wiley, on the other hand, was very very shy and didn’t want anything to do with the camera. he always managed to get into things do things that his brother couldn’t (thus his name) and he was loving and gentle with people.

at 5 weeks old, their personalities were already so well formed and cemented.

i miss these boys dearly, but i know they went home with wonderful families.

  70. Jajeh says:

THey are lovely little guys, Jen! I am always amazed by the diversity of personality kitties have…they are all so different! Seems to me, dogs are more alike, at least consistent within a given breed.

I’m glad you were able to foster them until they could go to new homes.

  71. Valerie says:

I love the name Milo for a kitty, but it is very common. I tend to give y pets people names so it’s more like they’re my kids. Jonny, Ferris, Lily, Paco, and Ellie are some names I have used.

  72. Kristin says:

MY kitty’s name is Milo, and I like to say it with a British accent when I call him by his name–it’s way more fun that way.

  73. Katrina says:

Valerie-”Katrina” is a very nice name…..true story-my mother wanted to name me Valerie, but she didn’t want my father to go through life calling me ‘Walerie’, so alas, Katrina it was.
I still giggle when I think of that story.

  74. jmuhj says:

The guy in the background? MINI-MILO. Uv koarss.

    GO FOSTERS! GO FOSTERS!

    ;) )))

  75. Totalee Puppy says:

    Awesome!

  76. LC says:

those pink lips just kill me

  77. Cashfordays says:

The kitten looks pink? I guess it is the lighting.

  78. Lurker says:

Thanks for posting, Jen – a good kitten success story does my heart good!

  79. bibberly says:

What’s wrong with naming your kitty after one of the hot guys from Heroes? My little darling is named Mohinder. Kitties named after Heroes men FTW!
