The (Cat) Thinker

by Meg on July 3, 2008

Interviewer: Mr. Kitteh, what are you thinking about?

Kitteh: I can’t decide which one it is… amy I hungry or nappy? Hungry… or… nappy. THAT is the question.

Melissa M., I think it’s both. In that order.

That was adorable!! What a pensive kitty that is!

2 Katrina 07.03.08 at 9:32 am

Cat thoughts, cat thoughts…

3 hon glad 07.03.08 at 10:41 am

Well I was thinking who would have these check covers with that Chinese flowery carpet, I mean talk about busy!

5 J. Bo 07.03.08 at 10:49 am

The tail-swish is killing me…

6 carol 07.03.08 at 10:52 am

Not to be disgusting, but he looks like he needs something to read, if you get my drift.

7 CB 07.03.08 at 11:29 am

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!1!

8 Theresa 07.03.08 at 11:39 am

Wow. Yes, the swishing tail underneath the legs is great, and so are the modesty paws.

9 Edward(the grrrl) 07.03.08 at 11:52 am

So adorable. The swishy tail, the modesty paws, the look on his face all equal amazingly cute….even if he almost makes think of a kitty Al Bundy.

10 Kris 07.03.08 at 11:54 am

This totally reminds me of my grandfather! Hilarious! Looks like he needs a cup of coffee.

11 Ender 07.03.08 at 11:57 am

Kitties are so wonderfully strange. <3

12 ButtaRumCake 07.03.08 at 12:07 pm

*hands him the Caturday Evening Post*

…*and the Oust*

13 Ray 07.03.08 at 12:11 pm

I love the tail swishing!

14 wagthedogma 07.03.08 at 12:15 pm

LOL @ Carol. Sure looks like he might really be wondering, “Number 1 or Number 2?” :D

15 cowdoctor 07.03.08 at 12:16 pm

tail swishin’ excellent

16 Teya 07.03.08 at 12:18 pm

And I thought my kitty was strange! Lol @ Butta. Tail swish and the look of “do you mind??” is hilarious. Great way to start off the last work day of the week!!

17 Leilani 07.03.08 at 12:30 pm

Kitty (humming to self): “Sittin’ on the dockatha bay, watchin’ the tiiiiide roll away…”

18 Babs 07.03.08 at 12:38 pm

Mr. Kitteh has atrocious posture.

19 NutherDeb 07.03.08 at 12:49 pm

That tail swishing!! He seems irritated that his human finds him amusing!! (of course cats NEVER like to be laughed at!!)

20 snoopysnake 07.03.08 at 12:53 pm

“What’ll I wear today, khakis or blue jeans? I can’t make up my mind!”

21 Not SupposedToBeDoingThisAtWork(GotANewJob) 07.03.08 at 12:54 pm

lol @ Babs. Exactly what I was thinking.

To me, he looks like he’s thinking, “I’ve seen the hairless monkeys sit like this, but I don’t understand the appeal. Although it’s not uncomfortable… zzz…”

[Personal request... could you please shorten your screen name? Maybe something like "NotSpozeta" etc.? Or, I dunno, "BeadGirl" possibly? - Ed.]

22 ali 07.03.08 at 1:06 pm

If one of my cats were doing that, and I walked into the bedroom, I would be convinced that he was plotting my demise.

23 ThreeCatNight 07.03.08 at 1:11 pm

Lonesome Joe Kitteh with the world on his furry little shoulders.
“Nice rug. But how do I tell her about the scoot marks?”

24 browngrl 07.03.08 at 1:16 pm

In our two cat house hold we say someone in this pose is having “cat thoughts”. I myself spend much of my work day in the exact same posture with exactly the same lack of neural activity.

25 chanpon 07.03.08 at 2:10 pm

Thinker? I’m expecting an Adonis-like cat a la Rodan’s masterpiece. All he reminded me of was some depressed old man who can’t remember where he left his teeth.

26 Deckard Canine 07.03.08 at 2:15 pm

Reminds me of the black Stoner Kitty who’s appeared here.

27 Ray 07.03.08 at 2:19 pm

he’s thinking “What? Now what?”

28 Theresa 07.03.08 at 2:26 pm

@Ali, if one of my cats were doing that and I walked into the bedroon, I’d look around for the “PlayTom” magazine.

29 gryt 07.03.08 at 2:31 pm

That’s pretty impressive. :D

30 Theresa 07.03.08 at 2:32 pm

@Theo, “And now at center court, Maria Sharapova meets Natalia Notspozeta”

[ADVANTAGE: Theresa Wisearseva - Ed.]

31 Erebella 07.03.08 at 2:51 pm

God, I’m so hungover and my ass hurts. What the heck did I do last night? Oh, and by the way, whose bed is this?

32 Rosie (Scottish Fold Mommy) 07.03.08 at 2:53 pm

Eeee; that’s called Buddha position!!! I wonder if the kitty is a straight-eared Scottish Fold. They’re known for getting into such posishes.

My kitteh gets into Buddha when he’s grooming his belleh and loses interest. :D

33 bats :[ 07.03.08 at 3:01 pm

The Dude abides.

34 Sheila 07.03.08 at 3:03 pm

Poor kitty looks like he’s been banished to his room for a timeout.

35 Kris 07.03.08 at 3:03 pm

Chanpon, you just described my grandfather!

36 Lauren 07.03.08 at 3:13 pm

He looks completely stoned to me – thinkin: “d***, but that was some gooood weed, man.”

37 woofysma 07.03.08 at 3:19 pm

The Dude abides. Love it!

38 Theresa 07.03.08 at 3:40 pm

(juvenile snorting)

39 raymi 07.03.08 at 3:59 pm

he thinks he’s people.

40 tracyFlick 07.03.08 at 4:11 pm

Cats are weird.

41 berthaservant 07.03.08 at 4:36 pm

Actually, this kitteh is demonstrating a modified position in the Fitzmaurice voice destructuring sequence. More active kitteh’s will choose the modified half-plough, with the legs over the head, but this alternative still allows for the maximum of feeling in the back while constricting (though not, of course, REstricting) the muscles in the front. From here, kitteh can still initiate breath with release of the diaphragm and power his breath while focusing on the immense space available for breath in the back of the lungs.

42 catloveschanel 07.03.08 at 4:43 pm

Seems like a highbrow kitten. Maybe he was thinking about the classic read from Jane Austin “Scents and Sensibility” or maybe some Dickens ” A Tale of 2 Kitties” ….

43 Jenn in IL 07.03.08 at 4:47 pm

OMG…WHAT?? WHAT IS THAT KITTEH DOING?

I’m done. Just done. That’s the cuteness forever.

Either an old man, possibly forlorn, possibly just crotchety, or a punished child sitting on the edge of the bed (the swishing tail can act like the child’s feet swinging back and forth while he awaits timeout to be over).

44 thefelinepunk 07.03.08 at 4:56 pm

Aww, kitty think’s she’s people!

45 v1ctorya 07.03.08 at 5:07 pm

my first thought was that this is the cat left home alone on Prom night wondering where in it’s little kitty life it went wrong that Jimmy (or Jill) didn’t want to go to the dance with them and mom’s telling the kitty how special it is anyway.

46 nycat 07.03.08 at 5:15 pm

Sit up straight kitteh. That slouching is bad posture.

47 jen 07.03.08 at 5:25 pm

he looks like he’s had a tough day at work, and needs to decompress.

i think a sardine martini is in order.

48 Michelle 07.03.08 at 5:29 pm

Looks like the classic procrastinated transition from weekend to monday morning.

49 wagthedogma 07.03.08 at 5:30 pm

Yum, jen! A sardini! Ganished with a little kitteh treat on a toothpick, natch. ;)

50 Tugs 07.03.08 at 5:46 pm

He kind of reminds me of a Kit Kat clock – except he is not smiling.
Poor kitty looks sad…

51 claudia 07.03.08 at 5:55 pm

omg HOWLING over here with laughter… what a great vid

52 nismo 07.03.08 at 6:20 pm

He’s just sitting there like a human. I have the irresistible urge to wrap my arms around him and pick him up.

53 Yitzysmommie 07.03.08 at 6:23 pm

The Tailio!
Teh Modesty Pawses!!
The long suffering Look!!!
the Yitzysmommie collapsing with laughter…

54 Eloise 07.03.08 at 6:25 pm

Get that kitteh some tuna STAT! He looks depressed!

55 gravyboat 07.03.08 at 6:30 pm

This kitten needs some theme music, STAT!!! I vote for “Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay”.

56 banana 07.03.08 at 6:39 pm

That’s my procrastination pose: thinking about all the things I gotta do but too tired and defeated to start any of them.

57 Theo 07.03.08 at 6:40 pm

*** JEN and WAG ***

This one’s on the house.

Heck, it’s quasi-Friday for me due to July 4th tomorrow. MFBT for everybody!

58 wagthedogma 07.03.08 at 6:52 pm

BWAHAHAHAHAHA @ Theo!!! You even got the cat treats in there! Bottoms up, naughty kittehs! XD

59 Neighborhood Kitty Haven 07.03.08 at 7:06 pm

For me, this video is not there. Just a blank space where there should be a video. The Winston and the Christian videos are there, so I am wondering if vid came from a different source & has been blocked for me. Halp! I want to see that kitty’s tude!

60 jmuhj 07.03.08 at 7:06 pm

*SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!*
Anerabuhls kitteh!!!

(naiss textylz, tew)

61 Theo 07.03.08 at 7:07 pm

NKH — yeah, it’s from Break.com. If you’re using, say, FireFox with the NoScript plugin, you’ll have to set it to “allow break.com” at least temporarily.

62 Khadija 07.03.08 at 7:08 pm

It might be the carpet.. got me all nostalgic and reflective too.

[...like a roadside dining car! Blue plate, please - Ed.]

63 Kris 07.03.08 at 7:14 pm

It’s Faux Friday, time for a Sardini!

64 BeanSidhe 07.03.08 at 7:31 pm

Pearl sits like that sometimes but she’s so blobular she just looks like Jabba The Hutt. I keep waiting for her to say “Bring me Solo… and a can of the chicken bits with gravy in.”

65 wagthedogma 07.03.08 at 7:33 pm

Cheers, Kris! *clink* :)

66 ali 07.03.08 at 7:49 pm

@Theresa
You just made me shoot water out of my nose. “Play Tom” magazine indeed!!!!

67 Neighborhood Kitty Haven 07.03.08 at 8:02 pm

Thanks for the info! I am using FireFox, so I will make that change.

68 RevWaldo 07.03.08 at 8:32 pm

69 Theresa 07.03.08 at 8:41 pm

70 Laura 07.03.08 at 8:50 pm

I done ’sploded.

71 Gwenny 07.03.08 at 9:59 pm

Beer can between his paws and its my husband on a Saturday night…

72 chanpon 07.03.08 at 11:24 pm

*sigh* Not enough coffee this morning. I meant Rodin, famed sculptor and master artist. Not Rodan, the crazed pterodactyl-creature and enemy of Godzilla. (…)

73 Koi 07.04.08 at 12:31 am

Our dog sits like that a lot. We call it “Sitting like a people”.

74 binky-mama 07.04.08 at 1:01 am

In my job I have taken hundreds of radiographs of kittehs. This, however, proves my theory that kittehs do NOT posses bones.

75 Bobo Jenkins 07.04.08 at 2:51 am

I feel like that every day before I have to go to work.

76 Snuzzy 07.04.08 at 8:30 am

Great stuff! Get that little dude a fishing pole!

77 stormeyes 07.04.08 at 11:54 am

This poor cat looks like he just lost the love of his life , and feels like he has nothing to live for anymore–total depression!!made me want to hug him and tell him there are other catfish in the sea!!

78 Christi A 07.04.08 at 2:32 pm

Awsome! You’ll never see another cat doing this again!

79 kimi 07.04.08 at 7:54 pm

what we need here is some dialog from “Death of a Salesman” or something equally thought provoking…

80 BeanSidhe 07.04.08 at 8:57 pm

@Kimi:
Maybe some Gilbert O’Sullivan?

Or some Cure? (pre-rehab)

Or we could just cuddle the kitty until he is happy again.

81 Indiana Joe 07.05.08 at 12:19 am

I think he’s auditioning for the part of Estragon in _Waiting for Godot_.

82 sveden 07.05.08 at 6:17 pm

I’m sad he didn’t fall over.

83 Susan 07.05.08 at 6:25 pm

We had a dog who sat like that. We would say, “Pearl, pull your skirt down!” Kitty reminds me of Monday morning after a too-short weekend.

84 Cupnoodle 07.05.08 at 10:39 pm

Sooooo awkward! :)
