Oh, Those Wacky Papillons!

by Not That Mike The Other Mike on July 2, 2008

"Hey, sweetie, hold still.  You got something in your eye." (slurp, slurp)

"Wha-?  I don’t feel anything! Cut it out!"

"I’m serious," (slurp)  "There’s something in your eye."  (slurp, slurp)

"Wait, are you sure, because I swear I don’t …"

"Just" (slurp) "hold still, willya?"  (slurp, slurp) "You got something in your eye!"  (slurp)

"WHAT?!  WHAT HAVE I GOT MY EYE?!?!?!"

"My tongue.  BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

I swear, it gets funnier every time I do it.

I suppose it’ll be "pull my paw" next, eh, Sara L.?

At least she’s pleased about it! Pup can lick my face too!

2 Decca 07.02.08 at 6:05 am

I hope their above the age of consent. Or are they making out in the den while mom and dad play canasta with the neighbors? I bet he doesn’t get to second base.

3 Liz 07.02.08 at 6:17 am

What is it with dogs and eyeballs? Mine is always going for the eyes. They must like the taste of the crusty stuff.

4 Subhangi 07.02.08 at 6:18 am

Put a sock on the door will ya?! :P

5 lurkingsmirk 07.02.08 at 6:43 am

HAH!! Great punchline.

6 warrior rabbit 07.02.08 at 8:01 am

The lickee is named Comet, it looks like. S/he looks sort of bashful. And kyoot.

7 Hila 07.02.08 at 8:03 am

I loved the look of giggles on the pup’s face: “Stop! Ticklz!” :) )

8 hon glad 07.02.08 at 8:46 am

10 mberkie0 07.02.08 at 12:50 pm

@ Hon Glad:
Instead of saying “you have flavor,” you might have said “you have taste.” Nothing like having taste in this weary old world, hmm?

11 Tee 07.02.08 at 12:57 pm

Snorgle…Snorgle…SQUEE!!

#$%&!!

12 Quincy 07.02.08 at 12:57 pm

Ahhh papillons, so cute! My parents have a papillon/cockerspaniel mix (a pappy-cock if you will). Little black dog with GIANT EARS! Haha.

13 Ermine_Violin 07.02.08 at 1:00 pm

Cavaliers?!
my dog was an eyeball licker too!

14 Ray 07.02.08 at 1:01 pm

I adore papillons! So cute <3

15 Alex(andria) 07.02.08 at 1:10 pm

I LOVE how the “lickee” is just smiling and has it’s little tongue out, too. Awww. My dogs always lick each others ears.

16 ThreeCatNight 07.02.08 at 1:13 pm

Ever since I saw “Rufus” in that Zyrtec commercial years back, I have fallen in love with pappies. They’re adorable and sweet-tempered — LOVE!! :)

17 BeanSidhe 07.02.08 at 1:23 pm

They always look like a good breeze in the right place would pick them up by the ears and send them sailing away…

Ah rats. Just earwormed meself.

18 Erebella 07.02.08 at 1:55 pm

Pappy-cock, hahaha!!!!!!!

19 Kris 07.02.08 at 2:26 pm

Why I eyes ya…

20 Kris 07.02.08 at 2:38 pm

I have a Papillon who loves–*loves*–to lick our other dog’s eyes.

And ears, but he loves everyone’s ears. Pip is the only one whose eyes he licks.

21 Monique 07.02.08 at 3:42 pm

I LOVE PAPILLONS! This pic is sending me off to work happy! But first I have to walk my Papillon!

22 Ermine_Violin 07.02.08 at 3:52 pm

gosh – could I be any more oblivious?!

duh

23 Kris 07.02.08 at 4:36 pm

It’s OK EV, you’re going on vacation now…it’s normal to check out ahead of time.

24 CathyDee 07.02.08 at 5:15 pm

BeanSidhe,
You earwormed me, too! Arrggh! Styx!!! Make it stop!

Perhaps repeated viewings of Christian and Winston will cure me.

25 Furbabies 07.02.08 at 5:15 pm

I love Papillons! Are they nice doggies? I have always wanted one, but never met one.

26 BeanSidhe 07.02.08 at 5:27 pm

CathyDee–
I’m hearing the Eric Cartman version. We’re doomed.

27 Theo 07.02.08 at 5:36 pm

CathyDee and BeanSidhe — [ahem]
“Just a dream and the wind to carry me, soon I will be free…”

28 CathyDee 07.02.08 at 6:48 pm

Theo, that is cruel and unusual. If you continue, I shall be forced to break out my circa-1979 Kansas and/or Triumph earworms–or perhaps the worst of all: Loverboy. You have been warned!

Must go scrub my eardrums.

29 Theo 07.02.08 at 6:53 pm

I close… my… eyes…
Only for a moment, and the moment’s gone…

30 Kris 07.02.08 at 7:02 pm

Kansas! Love that song. I told one of my English professors in college that I loved the images in that song and he immediately told me that that song was CRAP. Nice prof he was.

31 warrior rabbit 07.02.08 at 7:30 pm

God, I loved Dust in the Wind. I agree with you, Kris. Your professor sucked.

32 CathyDee 07.02.08 at 7:45 pm

Game, set, and match to Theo. I actually find Kansas quite pleasant . . . in limited quantities, of course. Perhaps I was thinking of Boston instead . . . . BTW, I teach college English my OWN self, and it is my professional opinion that everyone has the right to enjoy a little artistic crap as a means of escaping the insanity that is modern life. So there.
BUt what do I know, really? I’m just a drop of water in an endless sea.

33 Theo 07.02.08 at 7:47 pm

You think I can’t do Boston? Hmm??
[fingerpicked 12-string fading in...]

34 Shadyman 07.02.08 at 7:52 pm

Papillons? I came here thinking I was going to see butterflies! :P

35 Theo 07.02.08 at 7:52 pm

Close enough.
It’s the ears.

36 CathyDee 07.02.08 at 8:02 pm

Ok, ok. I shall crown you king of all late 70’s AOR rock only IF you can quote a Triumph song–and no Googling to cheat. Bonus points if you know the opening lines of “Dixie Chicken.”

This is much more fun than grading papers. I’m not sure where licky Papillons fit in, but I’m sure we could figure it out.

37 Theo 07.02.08 at 8:07 pm

I seem to recall that there’s probably only 1 Triumph song that’s vaguely quotable in this context, and I’m buggered if I can remember it. But hey if it’s Dixie you want, then by the hand (hand) take me by the hand, pretty mama, gonna dance with your daddy ALL night long…

38 CathyDee 07.02.08 at 8:08 pm

Doobie Brothers don’t count.

39 Theo 07.02.08 at 8:09 pm

Doobie Brothers *can’t* count.

40 Theo 07.02.08 at 8:10 pm

…and I am NOT quoting Lynynryryryyrd Skynynynynyryryryrdyd.

41 Kris 07.02.08 at 8:10 pm

The only Triumph song I like is Lay it on the Line (LAY ON THE LINE, GIRL!) Lay it on THE LINE.

Confession: for a VERY long time, I wondered what the words ‘dixielampert y mama’ meant.

42 Theo 07.02.08 at 8:12 pm

LOL, Kris. There’s a bathroom on the right.

43 wagthedogma 07.02.08 at 8:12 pm

“If you’ll be my Dixie chicken, I’ll be your Tennessee lamb; and we can walk together down in Dixielaaaaand!”

I know those aren’t the opening lines, CathyDee, but alas, all I could remember from those was something about the Commodore Hotel. (It WAS the ’70s, after all. Do I get a gimme for fricaseed brain cells? :D )

44 wagthedogma 07.02.08 at 8:15 pm

Oh, and that was by Little Feat. That I DO remember…oddly.

45 CathyDee 07.02.08 at 8:17 pm

Little Feat, anyone? Or does one have to be a native of the South to know it?

If you be my Dixie chicken, I’ll be your Tennessee lamb
And we can together down in Dixieland…
Oh, nevermind. I guess you gotta be there.

And speaking of Lyn-yard Skin-yard, I thought I was having an auditory hallucination the other day when I heard a “song” that I swear sampled “Werewolved of London” (may Mr. Zevon rest in peace) and “Sweet Home ALabama.” SOmeone please tell me it was just a bad dream resulting from the nachos I had at lunch!

46 Theo 07.02.08 at 8:18 pm

Little-known fact: I was born in 1970. August.
I do not remember Little Feat.

47 Theo 07.02.08 at 8:20 pm

…but hey, if you’ve never seen THIS version of “Sweet Home Alabama” — well, here’s why I love the internet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lNFRLrP014

48 CathyDee 07.02.08 at 8:20 pm

Congrats, Wagthedogma! You beat me to it.

Kris: “Magic Power”
I’m young now, I’m wild now, I want to be free. Got the magic power of the music in me.

Lordamighty, I am old. . …

49 Kris 07.02.08 at 8:22 pm

Theo, Little Feat were BIG when I was in high school in the late 80s/early 90s. Lots of girls in my class went to their concerts!! Of course, my classmates were also a bunch of rich stoners, so that may explain it…

50 CathyDee 07.02.08 at 8:25 pm

Theo–
That is probably the most bizarre thing I have ever seen. Beyond that, I’m speechless.

51 Theo 07.02.08 at 8:27 pm

Kris — huh. I remember it being more about Beastie Boys and Run-DMC. Or, you know, Madonna and Tears for Fears, depending.

52 Kris 07.02.08 at 8:29 pm

I love the info about them:

The songs, all somewhat influenced by polka and progressive rock, and performed in English, have themes such as ‘vodka’, ‘tractors’, ‘rockets’, and ‘Genghis Khan’, as well as folkloric Russian songs, rock and roll ballads and covers from bands as diverse as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd,

53 Kris 07.02.08 at 8:31 pm

Music pretty much stopped for me in 1979.

54 Theo 07.02.08 at 8:33 pm

Shame, that.

55 BeanSidhe 07.02.08 at 8:36 pm

Oh dear. What have I done?
So yeah, we’re dancing to the Eagles this year. Las week I was at my Evil Job, on hold for tech support at one of the phone manufacturers, and “Heartache Tonight” was on the hold music. I noticed my supervisor looking at me with great concern… apparently my eye started to twitch when the song came on. Eep.
PUPPEHS!!!!11!!111

56 Kris 07.02.08 at 8:46 pm

Well, I make exceptions for certain things and I admit to having a whole collection of “dance” music from the clubs from the mid to late 90s.
Whenever people ask what “album” would you take with you if you were stranded on a desert island, I always say, “John Denver’s Live Album – An Evening with John Denver.” What can I say?
Love me some Peter, Paul & Mary, Mamas and Papas, too. Just no Bob Dylan.

57 Theo 07.02.08 at 8:56 pm

Oh I would not feeel so all alo-o-o-one…

58 Kris 07.02.08 at 8:57 pm

If only he didn’t sing through his nose. I always feel like Tom Petty is his long lost illegitimate child…

59 Theo 07.02.08 at 8:59 pm

…Traveling Wilburys FTW

60 Kris 07.02.08 at 9:02 pm

RIP George and Roy.
Cry-i-i-i-in’ over you…

[Yeah. At least we still have Bob and Tom. And that other guy who sang Don't Bring Me Down, Bbbbbruice... - Ed.]

61 Kris 07.02.08 at 9:10 pm

Now, I’ll have “No, no, no, no, no, a-whoo hoo…” going through my head for the rest of the evening!!! At least it gets rid of End of the Line!!
Have a good night Commentor Peeps and Ed. :o )

62 Theo 07.02.08 at 9:11 pm

[bows]

63 wagthedogma 07.02.08 at 9:42 pm

“I’ll tell you once more, before I get off the floor, don’t bring me down!” (Sorry. The power of “Bbbbruuuce” compelled me.)

64 berthaservant 07.02.08 at 10:32 pm

I’m sorry to have joined this conversation so late.

I understand about indecision, I don’t care if I get behind.
People livin’ in competition, all I want is to have my peace of mind.

The jig is up, the news is out, they’ve finally found me,
Oh renegade, you had it made….

Someday love will find you break those chains that bind you one night will remind you how we touched and went our separate ways.

It’s living thing, it’s a terrible thing to lose, it’s a giving thing….

Thanks for letting me get that out of my system.

Doggeh eyeballs!

65 CathyDee 07.02.08 at 10:51 pm

BerthaS-
I was hoping you would find us. I had to take a break to rest my over-earwormed synapses. I found solace the usual way: spending money at Target. Just in case your post is a quiz, here are my Google-free answers:
Boston,Styx (pre-Roboto, Journey,ELO.

OK, now I’m really done.

66 Tee 07.03.08 at 12:43 am

OH MY GOSH! I AM THE BIGGEST LF FAN!

67 NutherDeb 07.03.08 at 2:10 am

More than a feeling, when I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)…
Wow that’s been a long time!! How did we get from pappy puppies to this?? (I read all the comments again, and I’m still not quite sure…)

68 Kris 07.03.08 at 11:39 am

I love that our commentors are such musical people! On the way home from work (20 min ride) I heard not 1 but *2* Tom Petty songs, followed by a Beatles song. What are the chances? :o )

Renegade was on the radio this morning, BS. Love that song, as it reminds me of my boys from Supernatural.

And coming full circle… look at the cute eyeball licker.

69 DixiesMom 07.03.08 at 4:48 pm

Kathy D- I believe you were hearing the new oeuvre
of Mr. Kid Rock, called “All Summer Long”, which samples both…

70 marsheeeee 07.03.08 at 7:52 pm

Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled the trigger now he’s de-ead
Goodbye everybody I’ve got to go
Got to leave it all behind and face the tru-uth
Mama ooohoohooohooh…Didn’t mean to make you cry
Sometimes I wish I’d never been born at all…..

Just sayin’.

(Not sure if I’ve got the lyrics exactly right or in order. I’m gettin’ very old.)

71 Theo 07.03.08 at 7:54 pm

Well… I can tell what you’re trying to sing, anyway. ;)

72 scooterpants 07.04.08 at 12:39 am
