Grilled Ham

Sssssssssss [sound of sizzling ham]

I’ll throw another one on the grill if you’re hungry.

Pass the A-1 steak sauce. [nose twitches]

I’ve heard of ‘pressed ham’ and ‘canned ham’ before, but THIS is ridiculous, Melissa M.
P.S., it’s not staged, those hams crawled up thar like that!

  1. browngrl says:

finally first !!! I have lived the dream

  2. Stephanie says:

I want to nom those little feets! This is all too redonk, I can’t stop laughing.

  3. curious says:

I don’t get it. What am I seeing? Did the owner squash them this way for a photo op?

  4. cheesybird says:

Can someone ‘splainy to me what exactly I’m looking at? What is that blue thing?

And is it wrong that I want to nom on their noses?

  5. Joost Schuur says:

This borders on cruelty. You really shouldn’t be encouraging more of this by posting this.

  6. Khadija says:

oh no curious, they do that all the time.. showing off that they’re spineless 🙂

  7. Hahahahahaha *snorts*
The first pic is hilarious, but that 2nd one w/ the 2 of them is just pushing it to laughing hysterics!! That is just too much!!!

  8. stronggrace says:

My hammy skippy used to do that too…– it’s two hamsters squished up behind their wheel, probably taking a nap. i’m sure the owner didn’t put them there, hammys don’t like being squished into places.
what’s even funnier is how they manage to get themselves into that position… 😛

  9. There’s no way that the owner could have put them there and have them stay still long enough for a picture. Anyone who has every owned a hamster knows this. If they were forced into that space, they would be squirming all over the place. The look relaxed in the picture, and I’m positive they are napping.

  10. chanpon says:

Hey, one more and it’s connect four!!

  11. chanpon says:

    Er…two more.

  12. Patricia says:

When I was younger I had a hammy that did the same thing. Actually he seemd to like to find places to squish himself into for naps, he rarely napped in any ‘normal’ spots. Their bodies are made to squish into odd places and mine seemed to get a lot of joy out of doing just that.

  13. Joost Schuur says:

Alright, I’m calling off the angry mob.

    Villagers, put down your pitchforks.

  14. cheesybird says:

Chanpon, there are three kinds of people in the world. Those who are good at math and those who aren’t.

Ok, so that blue thing is the back of the wheel! Thanks for clearing that up, stronggrace. I’ve never see the back of one of those things and thought it looked like some weird propeller thingy.

  15. Michelle says:

ahahaha is this the hammy equivalent of cats that squarsh themselves into tiny lil boxes? So cute. They look all comfy, weird as that sounds.

  16. Courtney says:

I’m impressed the photographer had the willpower to get his or her camera. I would have tickled those little feets and woken them up!

  17. Get your tow fer the price of one Ham steaks, Grilled to perfection just waiting for a mustard slathered hunk of bread! Don’t forget the swiss cheese and lettuce and tomato

  18. I’m afraid you’ll need to coral us with more than that!

    BURN THE WITCH! *rabble rabble*

  19. Hamsters love squishy places because it makes them feel safe and protected XD
These pics made me laugh, haha.

  20. Paunchie says:

eh? Points finger at Brown girl —>

I bet Andrew Zimmern had these before!

  21. jazmella says:

lol! Oh, how precious are they?! Hahaha, that’s so funny and cute and hilariously cute!! Oh my gosh, this picture makes me happy.

They’re so silly! I want to kiss their little extremities. lol

  22. My friend’s hamster died like that… he was on the wheel and must have slipped between the wheel and cage and died… she found him in a similar position when she came home. So I don’t think this is funny… But that’s jsut cause of accidents that CAN happen this way

  23. I just wanna know why?

    Why hammies?

  24. milly- yeah, they can. but a hammy’s gonna do what a hally’s gonna do, and usually it comes out ok, luckily.

  25. thanks for the downer, milly. geez.

    silly hammies!

  26. Milly, it is possible that your friend’s hammie was taking a nap behind the wheel and died in it’s sleep. My daughter’s hamster was curled up in her nappy corner and never woke up. At least she died peacefully. Hammies are good at getting themselves out of tight spots.

  27. haha my hammyhams used to do this on the top of her wheel, and just lay there all crammed in and uncomftabuls-looking. so sillies!

  28. Martha in Washington says:

Annie-MUSTARD?? Who puts mustard on a hammy sammich? What you want is a nice cranberry chutney!

  29. Agree, Michelle. These hams need their version of boxhab-is it grill-ham, or ham-grill? Either way, it will be mistaken for an edible delight. Grillhab, grillham, wheelhab. That’s it, wheelhab-can cover front of wheel or back. Nah, wheelhab should be for those hams who run all the time. Grillhab is for this situation pictured.

  30. Oops, double post. (The first one wasn’t showing up). My bad.

  31. If they can gets they little heads in, the rest of they bodies will follow.

  32. I had a hamster who loved to do this. One day she accidentally suffocated herself 😦 So I would watch to make sure your hamsters are okay and possibly even discourage it.

  33. browngrl says:

I finally made the first comment, I didn’t even say “bleen” and I still got edited out – AND it’s my birthday. That’s cold Theo. Cold. Please excuse me while I go pout (a bowl of pudding to appease me would go a long way – I’m just sayin’)

  34. I had a hamster who did this. Eventually he got too big for it and didn’t realize it, and he got stuck. I had to take the wheel off and get him out. 🙂

  35. binky-mama says:

What a perfect opportunity to nom on the little pink feetsies!

  36. @cheesybird – LOL! In my defense, the hammie on the bottom is a little… “wide”. I seriously thought he was two hammies until I counted the feet sticking out.

  37. my two hamsters do this, too! the way they sleep is so adorable, you gotta love hammies 🙂

  38. Pups'nstuff says:

    This makes me cry.

  39. Jesus frappacino christ peoples, use your common sense and read some posts before you assume this truly is a cruel grilled ham’n’cheese contraption. GAWD.

  40. Gail (the first one) says:

I just would want to tickle the little peenk toesies and nosies!!!

  41. Christine says:

  42. What, you mean you’ve never taken a nap underneath your car before?

  43. I know that Cage! That’s the hammie space station! Easiest cage in the world to clean! er – sorry, anyway – I had a full sized ham who used to do the exact same thing – in that exact same type of cage behind that exact same kind of wheel. I thought she was dead the first time I found her like that but nope – just happy and smooshed. Eventually she did it so often the wheel fell off its spoke. She’d gotten a little… er, ‘fluffy’ by then.

  44. “there are three kinds of people in the world. Those who are good at math and those who aren’t. “

    cheesybird = best comment ever!

  45. Too Late says:

Yum! All I need is some ketchup please…

  46. Ham sammich!

    ::pokes ham bellies::

  47. O_o okay… how the heck did they get in that position? Im confused. they look comfortable but yet they look to squished.. they are so adorable from that view though, my hammy was lying on his back while he was sleep today and was kicking his little feet in the air, so cute!

  48. My gerbils were always finding redonkulous positions to squish themselves. They’d squish themselves three across a plastic pipe to nap and cause traffic jams. Them thar critters have jello bones.

  49. seems like hammy’s are like kittens, love to sleep in tiny places.:)
    I can’t stop wondering???
How the h*** do they extract themselves out of there.
” pardon me” ” excuse me ” “ouch” ” easy there will ya”

  50. When my kitties are lying next to metal or tile, my immediate reaction is to turn up the A/C.

  51. Turn us over. We’re done on this side.

  52. floppycat says:

OMG! I just want to ticky those little feeties!

  53. that has made my crappy day a lot better!!! so hilarious!!! i’m snickering away as i type this..ahaahahahaha!!!! 😀

  54. I love you C.O. but…
the constant jokes about eating animals and pics dogs in plates really have to stop. Its not funny and never was. The idea of a hammy sizzling on a grill is so highly disturbing!

[You know, maybe this is exactly why we do it. Think about it… – Ed.]

    Just my 2 cents.

  55. Anon, is it really more disturbing than thinking about a cow or chicken sizzling on the grill? Seriously, get over it…

  56. cheesybird says:

Browngrl, I suspect you got edited out because you used the dreaded “f” word that Theo does not allow. If I understand the evolution of “bleen”, it’s a substitute word that Theo grudgingly tolerates (and that others mercilessly tease him with ;-)). Although I don’t want to speak for Theo, so correct me if I’m wrong.

  57. Cheesy, you’re on the right track.

  58. Oh my…

This reminds me SO MUCH of my own hamsters! I miss them all so much.

It seems that almost every hamster I’ve had loved to do this. Those pictures might even be from my own camera, since we had the same Habitrail cage AND wheel.

I loved tickling their pudgy furry bellies through the grilles 😀

  59. LadyDarya says:

“There are 3 kinds of people in the world. Those who are good at math and those that aren’t”

Cheesybird – awesome quote – please tell me is it from you because it just became my life motto – as someone who isn’t good at math… I am good at English though and want to credit my new motto to the one that spoke it first…

  60. Okay seriously, do people not know how to read? It SAYS up there the hamsters put THEMSELVES there. In the cage they are in. Which you can tell is a cage if you LOOK AT THE PICTURES. Durh?!?

  61. I laughed outloud when I saw these pics! I have raised dwarf hammies for years and they ALWAYS do stuff like this… literally. They cram themselves into tiny places and it always looks very uncomfortable, but really they are oh so comfy!

Another thing that is hysterical is when I give them glass jars to sleep/snuggle in. They end up playing “how many hamsters can you stuff into one jar”. Now that’s a crack-up!

  62. cheesybird says:

LadyDarya, I wish I could take the credit, but it’s something a friend of mine used to say. Not sure where she got it from.

  63. katiedid says:

People you need to read before you get all high and mighty on everyone else… it says under the pictures that they crawled up there themselves… hamsters, mice, even rats love small places… when i worked a a pets store they would always crawl under the food dishes or there would be like 20 of them on top of the water bottles.. they love to be packed together even though they had lots of those igloo things and tubes to run in… calm down people.. if they can get in .. they can get out..

  64. I have to agree with Anon – joking about eating these animals and about having hamsters sizzling on a grill isn’t funny at all (especially for those of us that own them). BTW hunnyb – yes, I find thinking about cows and chickens on a grill disturbing, and would even more so if I had them as pets. Yes I am a vegetarian, but I’m not a militant one who starts telling other people what they can and can’t eat. However, I don’t want jokes about cooking pet animals in my face thanks.

  65. Patricia says:

Guess by that reasoning my friend (who owns a restaurant) and has his baby son photographed in a stock pot with veggies around it and a chef’s hat on, is evil too. Man, people need to get a sense of humor. No one is seriously saying cook the hammies and more than my friends is going to stew his kid. If you can’t see the difference you may have lost your perspective.

  66. warrior rabbit says:

Mmmm…grilled ham. I would lofff to pop one of those cuties in my mouf. Perhaps with a sprig of parsley as a garnish…Maybe a little A1…

These hammies are adorable. I love how hammies find unusual places and positions to sleep.

  67. Patricia – no, your chef friend isn’t evil, but I wouldn’t find it funny. I have excellent perspective thanks, and clearly a more mature sense of humour than you.

  68. And we do bask in the evanescent glory of all who are better than us.

  69. Patricia says:

People who claim to have a mature sense of humor day that because they don’t have one. No one likes admitting their short comings and when someone says their sense of humor is ‘mature’ it’s because they don’t want to admit they don’t have one.

There lots of things other people find funny that I don’t. I don’t think they are less than me because I don’t find it funny. I realize they are just a different person than me and entitled to their own individual sense of humor. But then some people feel the need, to feel superior because that is what gets through the day. Personally I’d rather laugh.

  70. Penelope says:

My hamster does this too!!! I have no idea why.

  71. i used to have a hamster who would do that..but the funny thing was..the wheel would be on the top of the cage when he did it…at night i would put the wheel on the top of the cage so he would go spinning in it at 4 and 5 am. it was so cute..i have it on video..RIP my cute little hamster

  72. “joking about eating these animals and about having hamsters sizzling on a grill isn’t funny at all (especially for those of us that own them)”

Um, I used to keep hamsters. Now I keep rats, which are also rodentia. And I think joking about eating them is HILARIOUS. I mean, I threaten to “rat-a-pult” my rats across the room all the time but that doesn’t mean I’m actually going to do it.

  73. As adorable as this is, it also makes me quite sad. This is how my first ham ham passed away 😦 Have to be careful of wheels too close to the cage walls really.

  74. My hamster died like that. He squished himself through one of the horizontal bars.
