Sure, I have a little spare time on my hands, why?

You want me to help you build a video game hamster maze thing for YouTube?

SURE!

Leah S., this is complete and total Kubbur overload.

darn ALMOST made the ************ – I know being ***** not as good a use of my time as building a hamster game but it is my goal.

    [Stop it. http://www.squidgrid.com/cute/Glossary.htm#FP - Ed.]

  3. Babs says:

Brill! Is there a version for Xbox? Or even better, Wii – then you can snorgle!

  4. AuntieMame says:

I love how he completely ignored the moving things, even when they were poking him in the butt. And this video is exhibit A of why I always turn the sound off on my computer games. Obnoxious!

  5. Jennifer says:

Looks like there’s a lot of shoving involved.

  6. DKN says:

    O_o

I cannot. believe. I. watched. the WHOLE EFFING THING!! Phew! That was dangerous – thank god I made it through alr- *SPLODE*

  7. katiedid says:

My brother and I used to build lego mazes for his hamster.. but she always managed to just climb out the top… :-P I love the part where it gets squished by the elevator ….hehehe

  8. caelus says:

the background music reminds me the great time i had with my old gameboy…….

  9. Erebella says:

Wow, that was a trip! Someone really does have way too much time on their hands!

That part when one of the moving things in the way was zooming into his face, then away, and back again… Made me think of C.O. Extreme Close-up, but for the animal this time, not for us. Here’s a close-up, and a close-up, and a close-up, and a close-up! Just watch it again and think that at that part and you’ll start laughing.

  10. wagthedogma says:

Where the heck did they find a ham with racing stripes? :D

  11. Um, I don’t think that’s a hamster.

Looks like some exotic animal (or else a real fancy ham)

  12. hey-h says:

Awesome. And in case anyone’s wondering: Icelandic.

  13. Stephanie says:

Wow. The music was something else. ^_^

  14. Stephanie S. says:

Chocolate Chipped: I’m pretty sure it’s a real hamster. Similar to Seattle Roll’s *Beef* –> http://flickr.com/photos/seattle_roll/2658027910/

Although, I could be wrong. I’m a cat expert, not a hammie.

  15. Sandy says:

Chocolate chipped, looks like a regular dwarf hamster to me.

  16. jen says:

omg these people should win an award or something. too funny!

the elevator totally cracked me up. what a cute hammie! i want to dunk him in my milk and neeble neeble neeble and then snorgle heem and squeesh heem and call him george.

  17. Kris says:

    Definitely redonkulous!

  18. Elanor says:

One of my Winter White hamsters looks exactly like that!! His name is Mr. Pigglesworth. My other Winter White, Professor Pouch, is rather more rotund…

I wish they could play in this maze, it’s great!

  19. Katrina says:

I thought for a second that he was going to jump out and say “Oh the heck with this!”

    Tenacious little scamp!

  20. Claire says:

The levels of redonk in this clip cannot be measured.

  21. Kiragirl says:

    High Score!

  22. (the original) Mel says:

I need to watch that again when I’m high. It’s just moderately disturbing now.

  23. HISSSSSSSS says:

    Poooooor hampsty. :(

  24. Anonymous Nerd says:

The music and visual style is from Monty On The Run for the Commodore 64, just thought I’d mention.

  25. MaggieBee says:

    OMG! Love! Hahahahah!

If you don’t want to watch the whole thing, at least check out the Cleenin’ Break HamMario takes at 01:49! :D

  26. riolinda says:

Awesome!! Where can I play this game? :)

  27. Andria says:

I love 0:54, where it looks like he laid the house out flat so the ham wouldn’t have to climb! :o )

  28. Yes, but does the hamster LEARN anything? Otherwise it has no value in terms of operant conditioning.

Oh, by the way, the score is now:

    Japan 236
    Iceland 1
    US ?

  31. Sprock says:

I gotta build me a ferret-sized one of those!!

  32. Catsquatch says:

ROFL! Some people have WAAAAAAY too much time on their hands….

    ;D

  33. Mary (the first) says:

I’m a little confused, did he get squished/eletrocuted at the end? ?? what happened??

  34. Noelle says:

I don’t know why but the music reminded me of a british sci fi tv show I used to watch.

Way cute, and I loved the frantic cleaning at one point. Energetic little guy!

  35. Theo says:

Noelle — if you mean Doctor Who (Tom Baker era, with the spacey analog-synth soundtrack), well, we’re still watching. Only it’s David Tennant now. He’s every bit as hammy in his own way, I might add.

  36. Khadija says:

    SUPER MARIO!!!

  37. oni says:

mary1- he went to next level, derr ;)

  38. Kristy says:

This reminds me of all those cheesy Atari games I used to play in the 80s…what a brill idea.

Theo: LOVE Doctor Who and David Tennant!!

  39. Wylizzle says:

OMG so awesome! <3 the music.

  40. chanpon says:

This must be Luigi. He seemed to have some difficulty on what I thought were pretty straight forward paths there.

  41. Gail (the first one) says:

For some reason, my kittehs were disturbed by the music??? Isn’t that wacky??

  42. Wbirdie says:

    HAMSTER KONG! :D

No wait a minute, there aren’t any flaming barrels……

    Doo doo doodee doodee doooo!

  43. shaz2 says:

Thank you, Anonymous Nerd — I have played that game back in the 80s… and couldn’t recall the name. :)

    It was a fab game!

  44. gravyboat says:

    LOVE. IT!!!

  45. bookmonstercats says:

Very funny. Laughed my head off – clunk.

  46. jebber says:

So this is how Icelanders get through those loooooong winters….

  47. andrea says:

    omg it’s Lemmiwinks!!!!!

  48. Mandy says:

I too loved the furious cleaning. The sound at the end was from that pinball game sometimes included with Windows. No idea if he was “electrocuted” or “squished”.

  49. Nine says:

My favourite bit is the handstand circa 1:41.

  50. Noelle says:

Theo..I was thinking of Doctor Who. I haven’t gotten around to watching the new one, although I love David Tennant. However, Tom Baker will always be the best Dr. Who for me.

  51. Noelle says:

Oh, and…OMG Theo talked to me!!!!! *SIGH*

  52. Theo says:

    [eyebrow]

  53. girljoy says:

I remember seeing this on a UK kids show! I love it so much :D
I write this sort of music too, so it amazeses me. I love the ham. herro ham!
Makes me want to build little game mazes for him.

  54. Jim says:

This could totally be Bjork’s next video. Just occasionally superimpose her face on the bouncing obstacles, singing. Presto! Done.

  55. Jeanine says:

Go figure. They’re Icelandic. They have nothing better to do!

  56. MMc says:

After I got over the initial near-heart-attack-inducing shock of having the sound too loud on my earphones when the music first started, I found that whole thing oddly relaxing… And I loved the cleaning break mid-way through, hee hee.

  57. ashagato says:

LOL noelle! i feel the same way!

  58. Renee says:

    movie says no longer available?

  59. Theo says:

Renee — nope, still works. Somebody ALWAYS says this.

Try clicking on the movie clip, but NOT on the gray “play” rectangle. Or, empty your browser cache, close your browser, then come back and try again.

Also, very often, workplaces actually block YouTube with a firewall, though I don’t really think that’s what’s going on in this case.

  60. RR says:

I almost peed when the hammie was lifted up to the next level! Brilliant!! And, Elanor, one of the nicknames for my cat is Mr. Pigglesworth — yay!!!
