Can someone define “nuffer’ for me. I think I get it from the context in which it is used, but, I just called someone one and I want to be sure I’m correct.
Michelle, the word “nuff” originally meant those people who whinged that the pictures weren’t cute enough (e-nuff) for them. It has been generalized to anyone who criticizes for any reason–not cute enough, animal cruelty, photoshop, whatever. It’s CO-speak for “troll.”

lisamarie, thanks for the shout out…I see this look on the faces of my students in the afternoon classes (UCSB standing for “U Can Study Baked” apparently). The improv games become just a little TOO amusing.
Mary, I’m not sure where “Teho” came from, but I do know that I call the cat named Theo who lives with me “Teho” (pronounced “Tay-ho” for me, not “Tee-ho”). So, typo that became an inside joke? Or vice-versa? Who knows!

My golden retriever used to smile like that, too.
I always assumed that “Teho” was a play on the common error of typing too fast and accidentally writing “teh” instead of “the”.
The = teh, Theo = Teho
But I have been known to be wrong a time or two so who knows for sure…

Michelle, don’t listen to those people, they’re lying. “Nuffer” is actually a misspelling of the French “neuf heure,” which means “nine o’clock.” It’s actually a very long and complicated story as to where it came from, but it’s basically equated with “being out in left field” (which is where 9 is on a clock), not to mention the numerical reference hints at RADAR lingo, as in “look out, we’ve got a whiner on the screen” kind of thing.
I know what they told you before, but it’s all hokum. I’m telling you the honest-to-Pete origin of “nuffer” here. No lie.
