i used to have a stuffed animal lion named liony. well, i still do. it’s from when i was a wee tot. just never got rid of it. what an inventive name, though.

Marie – keep in mind this is a new born brood that they are purposely separating from the males to avoid infanticide. We don’t know about the other facilities that the rest of the lions live in which I’m betting are fine – for a zoo.

omg I just experienced the cutest part. the cub on the left opened its mouth and closed it over and over again, and the mother kept putting her paw on the cub’s head. and it had the cutest face when it kept opening it’s mouth. check out the gif.

One cub is still out of the shot, but one was eating, and the other two were over at the other end, more within licking range (but done with their bath).

Then one of them decided he was hungry, and mama nuzzled him as he went by, then shifted so everyone could get to the milk easier.

Then she laid down and closed her eyes, putting her head right against the head of the fourth cub. I think it was one of the most precious things I’ve ever witnessed.

I’m having trouble sleeping these days with the heat and stress at work, but one look at this devoted, beautiful mama and her snoozy, suckling bebehs makes me think all is well.

Mama lion was cracking me up – three cubbios were trying to find the nipples and she wasn’t budging. Mom needs a break sometimes, kids.

Oh my god, people – one cubbio just crawled about a foot away and curled up to sleep. Another cub followed, all curious, and then kerflopped on top of it for a good snooze. Sibling love!! I think I’m going to cry. I had to take a screencap, they’re on the left.

It’s so amazing and humbling to watch such natural, instinctual animals and their behaviour – technically all mammals should nurse and sleep with their young, but of course humans have changed over the years…Mrs. Lion is such a fierce, caring mama.

Also I tried to do a translation of the message from Swedish, which was closest I could find and it said something about them being moved to their winter lair???

I thought the roaring was a recording!

Oh happy day! Thank goodness for the simple pleasures we can enjoy in this complicated world! LOVE seeing the mama and cubs again… my whole body relaxed, filled with “Aaaaaawwwww”, and the world is a little nicer.

And right now Loner McCubberson is sleeping nose to nose with mama and it is just too sweet for words.

In the lion world, having a larger percentage of females is a good thing! Once male cubs get big enough, they get booted from the pride and have to live the bachelor life… with the hopes of finding their own pride sometime. Helps if they’re paired up with a brother.

But a litter of all female cubs means they would stay with the pride and be together for life, most likely.

Unfortunately, I’m also inclined to think first that an adventurous cub would be male… *darn those early cultural influences*. I’m an adventurous lone female, I really should know better by now. A bold, curious cub can just as easily be a female. *check*

Here’s hoping hard that the live lion cam continues. I want so much to watch these precious little ones grow up. I also love watching such a magnificent, loving and caring mama.

Anybody else wish they’d install some kind of super cool night vision lens on the camera so the Løveunger family could sleep in the dark but we could still see them?

I’m not satisfied with just being unproductive at work, I want to be unproductive at home (eastern time zone in the US) too.

That said, I’m glad they’re shutting off the lights for them. I wonder if it was stressing the mama out to be in the light all the time. Even her patented McCubberson sleep mask couldn’t keep out all the light.

At one point I checked before heading out to work and there were no lions, but only what appeared to be a brown bucket. I wanted to call in to work soooo bad so I could see if it was feeding time or something.

I just watched the dunlett sjarmtroll video. I believe we witnessed some serious Penguin Disaproval there.

Mama was all “seriously dude, give me back the baby and you won’t get hurt.”

Momma always keeps her eye on her, but she does seem to go her own way! Wait til she’s a teenager – she’ll be nothin’ but trouble!!!

So I finally got around to asking Google Translator to translate that little paragraph that lives under the live video feed on the VGTV page. Here is the translation according to Google.

I just switched over from doing actual work to checking on my latest obsession and noticed the camera is slightly repositioned. i wonder if momma realized what was going on (us spying on her and the babies) and moved it. i wish i could have had it up and witnessed whatever did happen.
