C’mere baby, I’ll comfort u! (HUGE SEAL HUGZ)
I love seals!
my cat came running, she seemed really worried about him.
I want to knit a baby seal sweater. Maybe I should just make a toy seal?
Oohh I don’t see how anyone could hurt such an animal. (Or any animal, but look at that snow-chomping face.)
Chomping on snow! So cute!
EEEEEEE, harp seals are my favourite animals ever. I have an entire collection of stuffed harp seals. OMG, I just want to hug it and tell it everything’s going to be okay. I can’t believe anyone would kill these babies for their fur!
eeeeeeeeeeeeee
My room mate came running into my room when he heard the squeel.
Oh wow. So beautiful. I really really really hope that baby gets to enjoy a long life of snow-biting.
MMmmmmmm Snow!
Soo delectabuls
“I will hug him and squeeze him and call him George”…. so precious.
soooo!! redunk!!!
I had to quickly turn down the volume lest my co-workers thought I was killing someone! Sqeeeeeee!
This was just what I needed this morning. I am anticipating a rotten day and seeing this little guy makes it all better.
The snow chomping was just too cute!I shall picture rolling in the snow and suggling this precious baby all day!
“I can’t believe anyone would kill these babies for their fur!”
Neither can I. Know why? ‘Cause they DON’T!!!!!
Anyone who says they DO (narrows eyes in the direction of PETA, IFAW, WSPA, and Sea Shepherd) knows NOTHING about A) seal biology and B) Canadian law.
And that’s the only comment I’m making on the subject. Buh-bye!
I see PeTA’s lies have gotten into your heads and stayed there. Baby seals ARE NOT hunted for their fur. It is the adults that get hunted. Its not like the hunters are allowed to go kill as many as they want. It is regulated just like deer hunting. They actually get fined if they kill babies. Any seal they get MUST NOT have the white baby coat. Please, do some REAL research, not PeTA or animal rights research.
Pwecious bebeh harp seal! Love him!!!!!! If people did not buy the coats that were made of their fur then there would be no monetary motivaton to kill them. Sucks.
I have a photo album set emblazoned with this baby seal!
Hmmm.. Now that I think about it, maybe all harp seals look the same :] Especially since those photo albums have been around for 18 years. Heh.
well of COURSE he’s whining…he’s trying to get an even tan, and he can’t roll over all the way!
oh, cruel cruel nature!
I was reminded of that baby panda ehning as it tried to climb some stairs. At least that guy tried. This one just flopped over and lay there, like a slug*. It was his best defense.
Anyone get the movie reference? C’mon, it’s easy.
Laziness aside, this little guy stole my heart. I could keep one in my bathtub, right?
The whining scared my cats.
*Not a sea slug (nudibranch to those of us in the know)
snorfle snorfle snorfle
cronsch cronsch cronsch…
Mom I want milk.
I lof the eyebrow dots.
Ughh…rdg69 —-PETA’s lies have not gotten into our heads. The Seal Hunt is government mandated slaughter– you say its the adults that the hunt kills…but who do you think is the mother of this baby? Baby seals need their mothers to survive. How about YOU do YOUR research, and then post an intelligent comment.
Some facts:
–the seal hunt only comprises 16.5 million dollars of the 600 million dollar Newfoundland fishing industry.
–98% of the animals killed in the past two years have been seal pups aged about 2 weeks to 3 months
–The seal hunt is NOT a sustainable enterprise. The quota’s for the seal hunt are much too high, in that they do not take into account the decline in the seal population due to effects like global warming.
I’m pretty sure those cries really mean “Rub my belly! Please!!!”
“Baby seals need their mothers to survive.”
Some facts for you:
- A harp seal stops being a “baby” at roughly two weeks old. That’s when the mother stops nursing, leaves the pup on the ice to feed at sea, and never returns.
- There are currently approximately 5 million harp seals in Atlantic Canada. That’s more than twice the human population. They’re in no danger. At all.
Boy, that didn’t take long.
NOTE FROM THE MODERATOR:
ANY COMMENTS MENTIONING SEAL HUNTING WILL BE UNPUBLISHED.
This is not the place.
Thanks Theo a raging commentroversy, nipped in the bud.
nom nom nom… snow is good.
so cute!
debg, *i* get the reference.
this lil dude *does* act like randy. “i can’t put my arms down!”
excellent work.
=/ I want to touch.
Perfect size, shape and blobulage content for snorgling!
debg and DLT, wonder if this little guy is as fussy an eater as Randy …
They’re just so cuddlable (a new word), and so beautifully white. The huge liquid brown eyes get me every time!
my cat never looks at the screen, and I watch meowing kitty videos all the time. But this little seal got her all concerned. I wonder what s/he is all upset about.
Seal pup, translated – “MaaAaAaaAaaahhhhhhHhhhmmM!I’m BOOorrreddd! Where are you, I want a snack, I’m bored, MaaAaaAaahHhhmm! Oh! Snow!”
OH GAWD!
How could anyone see and hear that and want to hurt it?
Sounds almost human, doesn’t it?
(Is that comment on seal hunting O.K., Theo?)
Bertha, too, looked at me after the first yelp, like “What was THAT?”
This lil fella is so adorable. I want to rub his cold belleh and watch him nom snow all day.
Those things are obscenely cute. It’s not decent, I tell you. But I’m not sure I’d want to snorgle one–I bet they smell pretty fishtastic.
These little guys just melt my heart. The eyes, the helplessness, the WHINING!! GAH!
I hope this comment makes it past Theo (cause I really do agree with putting the kibosh on seal hunting comments), but I can’t imagine someone heartless enough to hurt one of these babies. I just can’t…and I don’t want to.
Give that bebbeh PETTINS. NOW.
NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW.
PETTINS. MANY PETTINS. NOW.
…
Ahem. Please forgive the shouting. Will now go be ded from Teh Qte.
Some creatures need firm and repeated poking in the belly. Some need their ribs tickled. This little guy needs both.
Lisa and Wendy, rest assured.
No one would try to harm a baby whitecoat in Canada, as it has been illegal to do so since 1987 – a fact that certain animal rights organisations choose to ignore…
What a cute little guy! He clearly loves the snow.
Actually, Newfie Girl, hunters can legally kill young harp seals after they’ve shed their white coat (at 25 days old).
At this point, they are still babies — just not fluffy and white. And sadly, clubbing techniques are still used.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/sealhunt/
@Newfie Girl: Thank you! I had no IDEA (that which shall not be named) was illegal in Canada. As you say, some organizations will twist the facts in an effort to get us all stirred up.
I’m loving where she plays hide n seek in the wee little snow mound. Peekaboo! Oh you found me!
Maaaaaaaa!!!!!

Yerp, it’s upsetting stuff! I don’t think this discussion should be deleted from Cuteoverload, either.
Isn’t this site dedicated to celebrating — and preserving — cuteness everywhere???
Why can’t we gush AND reflect?
Yay! I wonder if you could give a zerbert on that belleh?
Supposing I just hiked my hiney to russia and made myself a Russian Skin coat =/ bleh-but on a side note……I wonder if that baby will fit in my tub?
A haiku for the pup
Blobulent harp seal
Whiny pup cronches the snow –
Bleen! I’m dead of cute
Mom, that fuzzy patch of snow is staring at me!!!
I want to take this little guy home and use him as a pillow!
I like how he’s like “I want something (mommy)” and so… “I will flop onto my back and make the adorable noises”
That belly definitely needs a zoober.
AHH!!! My “teddy bear” when I was little was a stuffed harp seal that looked just like this guy! It’s like watching my childhood companion come to life. Oh, and you bet she was snorgleable. I hugged her as I went to sleep every night.
A thousand kisses on your fuzzy head, lil’ seal.
I love behbeh seals! *glomps*
Too cute! Must save them!!
fat calico asha came running and curled up right next to my head!
Don’t those cries mean, “Is there no one will come and CUDDLE ME?”
And I answer,
“Yes, there is. ME!!! I ahm cominks to cuddle yoo babeh fuzzy wuzzy seeal!”
I really wanna lay down in the snow and snuggle him!! So cute! And his lil sounds are eerily human.
The snow chomping is just about the cutest thing ever.
O the blobbularity!
Theo…could you take down all comments about the seal hunt?
Calling a sealer heartless is a little much.
Thanks
[Not sure which ones you're reading, Joan, but I've pretty much already unpublished all the comments that I'm going to, at least for now... - Ed.]
Everyone, each of you can make a difference. If no one buys seal products and fur (ANY fur for that matter) then there isn’t a market for it. Sign petitions (seek out organizations against sealing and donate and sign their petitions). Don’t just sit there and complain…take action. Don’t even buy rabbit fur stuff. NOTHING! If you watch the videos as to how they are slaughtered…you will never want to support that industry. P.S. What a precious baby!!!
Peeps, I tell you what… I’ll do this as an EXPERIMENT, which means I can and will pull the plug if I deem folks are abusing either Cute Overload or any forums/blogs I’m indirectly diverting your impassioned messages to.
Just try doing a little Googling, on your own, starting with the search terms “rational discussion” and “seal hunt” — a very tall order, to be sure, but just go on & see what you can come up with.
Meanwhile, remember that this is Cute Overload. We’ll be enforcing a Switzerland-style stance of neutrality on hunting issues, because they are universally OFF-TOPIC here.
We do love our peeps, even when they misbehave. Thanks.
Precious creature…should be treasured!!
I’d hit it.
what a ridiculously adorable creature. I’d pay good money to hug that thing. It sounds like a human girl making cute noises!
Yes, Julie. I, too, would pay good money to hug that thing.
And I gotta admit, sometimes I feel/act like that seal when I’m drunk. I just roll around and flop around, hoping for someone to amuse me or feed me. And then I wind up eating things that are in front of me anyway.
Kill the hunters. Let THEM know how it feels.
haha, maybe cuteoverload needs to ban baby seal photos. Seems baby seals really evoke cute…overload.
Sadly you can’t post a pic of white coats without discussing the seal hunt.
Joan, we can and will.
Thanks for an incredibly cute baby harp seal video…makes me want to give up the life I lead and move there to make snow slushees for seal pups–I could have a pack of containers with flavored syrups they prefer–”Tantalizing Tuna”–”Mackeral/Mango Treat”–What a great way to spend the day!
they should add “heartbreakingly adorable” to the dictionary and add this little one’s video for the definition. the way he/she stretches their head up to get a better look… the noises… the belleh… the snow munching and face it makes, “it’s too cold!” GAAAHHHHHHH
