Leanne….what? Cats are gonna swipe at everything that moves at some point….I WANT my hands covered in kitteh scent so kitteh always knows I am a friend and familiar. If you can’t take a little bite or scratch every once in a while, you can’t take the cute!
I was just about dead from cuteness overdosing when the mew towards the end put the nail in the coffin! If I were anywhere near as cute when I flailed my arms and legs and flopped around, I would rule at company meetings.

JNO, agree with the comment about the shelters. However, I’ve been a shelter volunteer. Amazing what shows up at shelters a few weeks after Christmas, sad to say.
If you want a particular breed, you can always call around to area shelters, and don’t forget animal control departments. You can also go to Google and see if there’s a local or semilocal rescue group devoted to the breed you’re after. We love Maine Coons , and we have gotten two absolutely angelic MC mixes from Maine Coon Adoptions, http://www.mainecoonadoptions.com/

You really should cut down on that kind of play that involves teasing your cat with wiggling fingers and poking.
The kitty’s nibbles are soft now but when it grows up it’ll turn into rough play and hard bites.
Use toys to play and use your hands only for petting.

I allowed my kitten to bite and tackle my hand – I encouraged it! My hands were scratched to smithereens. By the time she turned 1, she never bit me or scratched me…and hasn’t for the past 19 years, nor has she ever bitten or scratched anyone else. In fact, a few people have made comments about how she never even tries to bite when I, or someone else, give her eye drops or sub Q injections.
My sister’s cats are the same.
My point? I don’t agree with those who think this is a bad way to play with kitty.
And…this kitty is darn cute.

1: It is not a deformed kitty. Scottish Folds are a NATURALLY occuring genetic mutation, discovered in a litter from a barn cat in Scotland. PROPER breeders NEVER breed two folded eared cats together, but rather a folded ear and a straight ear to prevent the kinds of degeneration that can happen from the NATURALLY OCCURING mutation.
2: That’s a kitten. My cat was stubby and chubby like that at that age, she as an adult is perfectly normal size wise, including her legs. And Scottish Folds, like British Shorthairs and American Shorthairs, to name two breeds, are generally stout. And my cat, a moggie, is also stout.
Aww…must…have…one! I love Scotties! My neighbor had one, and he was the sweetest kitty ever. And the Munchkinness just makes him that much darned cuter!

The only thing that concerns me here is…shouldn’t a kitten that age still be with his cat mommy? No decent cat mommy would let her kitten out of sight for this long. Awwww, did something happen to her? There were times in that video where it looked like he was trying to nurse the blankie. Awwww!

What do you say we all put our heads together and come up with a CO malady just as deadly as a brain aneurysm, but not one. One of my friends just really died from one, Ann was a horse lover and an equestrian, and the fact that I miss her very much is hitting me hard when the CO-induced aneurysm keeps coning up. Her death at 53 is, well, maybe I should get a thicker skin, but you know, folks, we are creative, maybe we can come up with a new deadly-cute-induced ‘fatal’ illness from which to succumb, maybe, please? Is that too much to ask of such a life-affirming, support-giving community?

I have to echo the sentiments that this is a dangerous way to play with kittens. Of course, all depends on cat’s personality, but play with toys rather than hands is better. I had a cat as a kid that we played with this way all through kittenhood, and he grew up to terrorize, scratch, bite us all! Still have scars!

Scratching, biting kitties don’t get that way because you played with them when they were little. They get that way because they were taken from their mom too early and she didn’t have time to teach them bite and scratch control. So if we have to substitute for their mom, ideally we raise them with one or several siblings, that way they learn bite control by playing together. If the kitten is raised alone because that’s the only alternative, then it should be mildly scolded or lightly pushed away when it bites or scratches too hard (as momma or siblings would do), but NEVER smacked.

I play with my two adult cats this way all the time, and they seem to know not to bite hard or use their claws. (Unless they get too excited, which is not often.) And when I do get scratched, it’s never more serious than “medicate and stick a band-aid on it.”
My theory (and behaviorists can chime in) is kittens learn how to play like that from their litter mates. If they bite too hard, they get bitten back. They learn the difference between play fighting and real fighting that way.

Biting hands once in awhile won’t stunt the kitty’s development. I’ve known and raised a LOT of cats, and I’ve been bitten by a LOT of kittens, and bitey-playtime doesn’t turn cats violent or teach them inappropriate play.
Besides, this little guy is at a stage where he wants to bite EVERYTHING. Did you see him lunge to bite the blanket when the hand went out of the frame?
Also I don’t think this kitten is a munchkin, either. He’s stocky and his limbs look stout in proportion to his body, but that’s pretty standard for a Fold. Their limbs are normal-sized, but they’re a bit stockier in general. They have a powerful, compact build.
Kittens love to bite. They bond to their littermates by playing and roughhousing. I don’t think this kitten’s owner is doing anything wrong. Probably this little guy will grow into an affectionate, happy cat.
I have a kitty that I got from the humane society that plays like that. Here’s the difference:
-pocket sized kitten: SO cute!
-15 pound Fatty McFatter Cat-Not so cute.

Me mia play “attack of the hand!” all the time, and she lightly mouths my fingers while holding them with soft paws (which is hard, since a few of her extra thumbs have claws that don’t retract..)
and on the topic of mutant cats, my mutant Mia seems to be doing fine with her paws that don’t match. Yes, her ears do stick up all the way, but no paw has the same number of toes as any other. I didn’t go out of my way to find a kitty like this, she stood up on her hind legs and stared at me through the bars of an adoption center. She even was holding a toy in her better-formed hand. I love her weirdness. That’s just one of the weird things about people, they like things that don’t make sense.

me again: You’re right to be concerned about inbreeding and health, but SFs aren’t inbred and don’t need to be. In fact, they should NEVER be mated with other SFs:
SFs are a new breed based on a spontaneous mutation. The breed’s ancestor was a momcat discovered in 1961 (on a farm in Scotland – SURPRISE!). The folded-ear shape comes from a single dominant gene that affects cartilage development, so any cat with one copy of the gene will have folded ears, but cats with two copies can develop a degenerative bone disease, so they’re always outcrossed with non-folded cats to keep the breed healthy.
A single folded-ear gene isn’t harmful. They’ve generally been crossed with American and British Shorthairs, and that outcrossing produces healthy kittens.
The single dominant gene means that half the kittens will have folded ears, and the other half will have straight ears:
Straight-Folded x Straight-Straight —–> Straight-Folded + Straight-Straight

Unless you tell it off when it uses teeth and nails. Always worked for my kitties. If they recognised it as human skin, they’d bat it, but would -never- scratch it. Even little toddlers were perfectly safe.

We are shelter kitteh/doggeh parents, and always have been, but – after meelions of shelter pets, my mom wanted a Sottish Fold bebeh. I finally got her one for Christmas (yes, he was bred responsibly as noted above,) and he’s about 6 months now. His name is Duff, and he is ABOUT THE CUTEST LIVING THING EVAH! SO friendly, purry, soft, funny, sweet, anerable! I love my own shelter babies, but still secretly want to break into my mom’s house and steal Duffy back. He stole my heart – even though my Mom is the best cat mommeh, and he’s happy and thriving with her, I still plot ways to get him back…
PS, Oh, and my Mom’s also the best Hooman Mommeh too!

VERY cute and I heard the purring all the way through also. I wouldn’t play with kitten with my hands this way though, petting yes but not encourage to bite. Obviously a baby this age will bite/attack, but I wouldn’t deliberately entice him to do so since as he gets older that would be not allowed.
Oh, gosh…has anyone else noticed that those eyes are suspiciously alien-esque? Those pupils aren’t just big, they take up the entire eye. I think he/she is an attempt at world domination by extraterrestrials. I just can’t resist the call.
Lots of squeeeeeee in this house, esp from my SO, who is the soppiest guy I’ve ever met when it comes to kittens and bunnies. How can anything be so cute? How can it be legal? The legs waving in the air, the snubby wee tail, the happy purring. And surely, playing with such a baby with your bare hand is safer than an object that can’t feel how hard its touching her soft little bod. What cat owner can’t put up with a few scratches? It goes with the territory.
