well I’ll say this… I’ve definitely, absolutely been there… and they GROW, peeps. Kittens do. And their CLAWS grow. As difficult as it (really really) is, you and everyone around you will thank you later if you start encouraging good habits now, so later on, kitteh clearly makes the distinction between legs and tree trunks, once he weighs FIFTEEN FREAKIN’ POUNDS.

Great, here it is the busiest day of the week and thanks to this kitty I have melted into a puddle of goo at my desk. My boss is going to have a hissy fit and it’s all CO’s fault!

the other night, i was getting a bottle of water at a pizza place and i heard crying. i looked down the stairs (where the restrooms are) and saw him down there! i went down to pet him and he immediately climbed the leg of my jeans. he was WAY too young to be away from his mom, and the staff at the pizza place were being super sketchy and saying someone was coming to get him, but i called a few friends and we convinced them to let us take him.
4 of my friends took him in and they are taking excellent care of him! he is about 3 weeks old and can’t eat solid foods (they make him kitten formula and feed him every few hours) or poop on his own yet ! he can, however, purr, clean his paws, make biscuits, and play.
his name is darby, by the way.

Aww, c’mon, Theo, they stop doing it eventually, waaay BE-fore they reach 15 pounds. And in the meantime, it’s so cute. You just have to wear your armored pyjamas and such for a while. One of my little fosters climbed up my pant leg when I was sitting at breakfast, curled up, and lay there purring and shivering, looking up at me with those blue eyes. He was telling me, Mommy, I’m sick! He was five weeks old and had a fever but the vet saved him and now he’s sleek and thriving. It’s me who never recovered. That’s why I’ll never teach them not to climb…

Definitely a top ten CO pic. It reminds me of the puppeh in the grass the other day (which is my current desktop image, about to be replaced)…that “Rawr” motion is possibly a new category or rule of cuteness? “Making a ‘rawr’ motion even though you are teeny” is pretty much inherantly cute.

I know from Roxi’s comments that the blue flannel is not really a pajama leg, but the look on baby Darby’s face gave me a memory of my own Heather, many years ago — She was about 3 months old and frisking about on my bed while I dressed for work. I had just pulled up my pantyhose and stood up, when Heather decided to make a pounce from the bed to my pantyhose-covered thigh. The expression on her face as she gazed up from her hooked-in position (hose plus skin), was a little like Darby’s, but I know she was really saying, “Um, so you think maybe this wasn’t a good idea?. . .” Heather lived to be a ripe old age of 19 before she went to kitty heaven about 5 years ago. But I’ll never forget that incident (I have the scars to remind me).

my friend’s kitten, roger, does that too, except he gets a running start and climbs us while we’re standing. sometimes, if he’s feeling extra rambunctious, he’ll dig his tiny fangs into the sensitive backs of my lower calves. holy hurties.
