Maine Bear Monitoring beeep booop boop

Thanks to our new "bears!" category, we can successfully chunk these guys in their new category beep booop beeep

Here’s how the Maine Bear Monitoring went this year:

1. eye capsules? check? OK, put ’em back in their den!

2. 110% prosh? Check!

OK, I think we’re done here, Lynette! [Hands clapping in ‘done’ motion] Way to go Crown of!

  1. Huggy bears!

  2. I love how the nose and paw pads are the same pink color! And I can just hear the eye capsules going “Plink, plink”!

  3. Karen in Toronto says:

    Ah, bebeh bearse! :poit:

And look at the claw-unwitting-human-to-death potential in second image.

  4. Katherine Estes says:

I expect to see these guys on Steven Colbert’s Threat Down! (“And the number 1 threat to America today? Bears!”)

  5. Want.

  6. Ermine Violin says:

I haz new uzernamz 2! Guess?

Bears are cyoootteeee—- wonder what they smell like? Do they make little eeping sounds when you squeeze them?

  7. Oh… my… God…
I’m LOVING the fingerlets, but then I see the claws and remind myself what magnificent adorabuhl bears these will be.

  8. cuddle bearz. sigh will just cuddle in my thoughts so sweet.

  9. I want to rub and keess their pink foot pads!

  10. 260Oakley says:

Such cuteness is unBEARable. (slaps own head for horrible punnage)

  11. Awwww! I wanna hug dem!

[plants a kees on each widdle bear’s hayd]

  12. Oh, Maine, how do you tempt me so…

  13. Oh, how I loves da’ bears.

  14. I’ll start seeing the bebes on the way home from work soon, crossing the road or just sitting there as my car goes by. Maybe I should take pictures. (from the car, of course. You don’t get out and maybe have a mad mamma coming to protect the kids!)

  15. 2600Oakley-isn’t such cuteness ‘just two unbearable’?
    I love puns!!!!!!!
    Where is BDWilcox?

  16. Birdcage says:

    pawsickie ….

  17. Dreamspinner Cheryl says:

Birdcage, you are demented…..I love that in a person!

  18. zeldapie says:

    Gaaaaah! PEENK PADDY PAWS!!

    I can’t take it!

  19. This is Pawsably the cutest most mnbearably adorable, picture. Splodie.

  20. Okay I went back to read the Hover texts and Heheheh at the first one because hehehe one of those cubers at least is not a girl…

(years of turning lambies upside down to check kicked in for a brief second there)

  21. Hon Glad says:

Only the pointy ends would stop me cuddling them.

  22. Hehehe, nice roll-over text there Meg! I think I’ll stick around to watch the nuffs go mad.

  23. omg, are they hiring? i’ll check in on the baybeh bearries.

holy paw pads and little eyes and moist nosicles – beep bepp!

gah!!!i want to lick their earsies.

  24. katiedid says:

  25. Poohbear says:

Now I know where they got the idea for stuffed teddy bears! But these are much kayooter. I’m jealous of the human holding them.

  26. If the IRS was run by bears, I would not mind paying taxes.

  27. and if the BATF was run by bears, I would support my right to… um… yeah.

  28. Catsquatch says:

    How cute are they!

  29. I didn’t think anything could possibly be that cute. So sweet, so smiley!! Worth putting up with the prickly parts. Lucky lucky bear monitor people!

    Good eyes, Annie!

  31. riolinda says:

awww…. baby bears! soo cuddly! 🙂

  32. Holy Jabroly.
This might be slighty overused, but they really are THE CUTEST THINGS EVER!!!!!

  33. ThreeCatNight says:

(And since I didn’t get a chance to post about that baby, I thought the “pa-sickie” vid was absolutely adorable. There IS room in this world for both qte kidlets AND animals, even if I’m not a Mamma myself. Nuff said.)

  34. sweetpea says:

  35. tears… i have tears…

Those bears are so beautiful! Thanks for sharing. They’re perfect! 🙂

  36. Lookit the little smiles in that first picture! Seriously, click on it to see the bigger version, and check out those little grins! 🙂 🙂

  37. AHhhhhh what I would do to have a bear cub cudle with me! Ahhh so flipping cute!

  38. What is wrong with Stephen Colbert??? I think he needs to check CO more ofen. Wall of shame indeed, get some new glasses Stephen.

  39. Yes, I will take both and I don’t need a bag. Thanks!

  40. kittymom says:

Ahhhh, bear cubs epitomize cuteness, but beware of those claws!

  41. Awwww. I really liked the pic of them weighing the little cub in the red bag. Go Maine! I’m a Mainer, born and raised, but now a Bostonian.

  42. momof2kitties says:

Bearz say, bearz say “Hey bebeh, hey bebeh hey!”

  43. I suddenly can’t get the theme song from “the Patty Duke Show” out of my head.

    Where Cathy adores a minuet,
The Ballet Russes, and crepe suzette,
Our Patty loves to rock and roll,
A hot dog makes her lose control —
    What a wild duet!

    Still, they’re cousins,
    Identical cousins and you’ll find,
They laugh alike, they walk alike,
At times they even talk alike —

    You can lose your mind,
When cousins are two of a kind

  44. Claws!!!! Yikes!

    But v. v. cute.

  45. I can bearly stand the cuteness!!! Heeeeee!

  46. I want that job.

  47. Gosh darn it, some people have all the luck. I want hold cute baby bears NOW! Grrrr 😉

  48. Paunchie says:

No wonder people invented teddy bears. Adorabuls!

  49. ursa cuter!

  50. (GASP)

  51. indigoreiki says:

    Aww, what cute baby Bearingtons.

  52. one of my life dreams is to cuddle a bear cub. i’m so jealous of mr. bear handler there 😦

  53. Hey Paunchie,

Actually “teddy bears” ironically originate from Teddy Roosevelt’s era. He was an avid lover of nature, the ironic part comes from his love of hunting bears 😦

I grew up in the Rocky Mountains. I have nothing but respect for bears (who wander into my backyard to eat my daffodils).

  54. Here is a link that hopefully will inspire you to see one of the most under-rated films of all time. It’s ‘The Bear’ and you can learn more about it on Wiki:

‘The Bear’ takes the point of view of the bear, it’s passion, life, survival, and threat by humankind.

My Mom showed me ‘The Bear’ when I was a child. I show it to my children now. I would watch it, by myself, anyday.

    You,too, should watch it.

  55. The one on the left looks like an older sibling who is more relaxed, coolly hanging back, while the one on the right the younger, more eager to please sibling. Either way they both got a lot of sharp pointy parts!

  56. crazy weinerdog lady says:

Well you can all just be jealous of ME cause I’ve acutally done what they did in Maine. I worked for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission for 4 years and we went “bear denning” every February. And to answer your questions, Ermine…. they stink. LOL They’ve been cooped up in a den with a big ol’ stinky momma bear and she smells REALLY bad. They don’t make “eeping” noises when you squeeze them but they do make cute little whiny noises and try and suck on your earlopes. :)Oh and those claws ARE SHARP 🙂

  57. crazy weinerdog lady says:

oh and here’s a link to a pic of me and DA BEARS!!!!!

  58. These pics are melting my brain within milliseconds…
I hope they will live long and prosbear!

  59. Once upon a time Brother bear and Sister bear lived with their mother and father in a large tree. They were the Bearinstein Bear Family. Dee End.

  60. Omg crazy weinerdog lady I looked at your picture and now I must be INSANELY JEALOUS. That is TOO cute.

  61. magnoliasouth says:

I’m pretty sure that my Aunt Lila was on this trip, up in Maine. I have pictures that she took too. They are truly adorable!

  62. Hey everyone. I’ve been following CO for almost two years now, I’m a pretty devoted fan. I’m familiar with the lingo and even incorporate it into my daily life. BUT somewhere along the line I missed “bleen.” Can someone please tell me what this means? People are saying Pa-sickie (which I though was adorable, human notwithstanding) is the new bleen. What does that mean? kthxbai!

  63. SO CUTE! Sigh. Roly poly cuddle-topia, *splodes*

  64. magnoliasouth says:

Oopsies. I meant to say on one of those trips. I’m sure that several groups went out at once for tagging the bears. Either way it was recent. I got her pictures last week I think. I’m not sure when she went. They’re guides in Maine.

  65. Raemie L. says:

[looks at hands, then looks at hands holding the bebeh bears] Eeeee…!

And I chuckled (horrid-sounding chuckles) at Birdcage & other commenters’ puns & ref.

  66. Bears are the one animal I have trouble seeing as
“cute” (too many bad experiences with them).

  67. Poohbear says:

CWLady : they try to suck on your earlobes! Gaahhhlg! are you trying to keel us??? I went into hyperventilation when I saw your picture. Next time I’m going with you.

  68. This reminds me of the news video of the Asiatic bear in Japan that (without any training) is spinning sticks like a Kung Fu expert! Experts say it may be out of boredom or just a form of play, but wow, it’s amazing:

  69. Leslie,

“Bleen” can mean whatever you want it to mean; the participial form is often used as an adverb, as in “So bleening cute.”

There’s another, more sinister use of “bleen;” it’s what people say when they type the, uh, post that comes before all the other posts in a comments thread. The other word, the dreaded “f****,” is not used around here.

    Hope that helps 🙂

  70. Okay, that’s it. I’m going right home to cuddle my teddy.

  71. I wantz da feets.
do they always stay all pink and cute like that?

Touching monitor make it come to me…..
@ Poohbear: THEY SUCK ON EAR LOBES???!!! WHAT? REALLI?
    o. mi. gawd.

  72. Martha in Washington says:

My oldest son (who is right now at Marine bootcamp) still has his teddy bear that is the exact same color as the baby bear here. It even has the same pink nose because Christopher gnawed all the varnish off the nose. (Of the teddy bear, not the real live cutie seen here.) So this is a bittersweet post for me. Cute bears but I want my baby to be a baby again.

  73. I propose a spin-off website: “Hot Guys Holding Cute”. Check out that hot guy holding the cubs. This is the best CO posting ever…

  74. Awww^ Poor mama bear… Bless Christopher at camp and beyond.

As for these little fellas I just cannot stand it! I could kiss and nuzzle them both for days. They’d have to peel me off before returning these behbees to mama. Some people have all the luck!

  75. Theo, how long before pawsikie gets a glossary entry?

  76. Its bad enough that they’re smiling, which of course is out of this world. But the thing that kills me is that they look as if they’re posing in a photo shoot the way the one bear has his/her head up against the other one.

  77. NO FREAKIN FAIR!!!. Why can’t we all have baby bears? It’s just not right.

  78. Ermine Violin says:

    Hot guy holding baby bear!

  79. Baby bears, puppies in work desk drawers, color-coordinated puppies on couches and dilloes so beautifully photographed you can see every tiny detail- the tockses, too, how could I forget all of the tockses throughout the years, thank you. I am sending the bears to my biology-chemistry-major son in UCONN, and if you have the ability, Martha in Washington, they like them when they get them! My very best wishes to our newest Marine. Thank him for his service to our country.

  80. SoCalSis says:

I love the little curly claws, just like the Bearnstein Bears! Spirit, you are right about The Bear– great movie!! and finally, to Ermine Violin, my sincere thanks for that scrumptious shot of Hot Guy Holding Bear. What a couple of honeys!

  81. Ermine V., that is freaking adorable. And the bear is pretty cute too. 🙂

  82. Hot guy holding baby bear!”

I’ve obviously lived in Atlanta too long. This discussion has different overtones for me. That said, I wouldn’t mind giving one of those stinky cubs a warm bubble bath with prolonged post-cuddling.

  83. heather r says:

way to cute for words! i could snuggle them always.

  84. Ohmygod, Ermine V. You can’t go around posting pictures like that during the workday.

  85. Mary (the first) says:

Ermine, thank you for posting the link to the hot guy who seems to be the same hot guy in photo above but now we can see his face. YAY (It almost makes up for no new posts today so far.. sigh ..)

  86. librarian says:

    Adorable godless killing machines

  87. I call shenanigans. This whole “bear survey” thing is nothing more than a government-funded excuse for these people to go out and cuddle baby bears. Come on! Yeah, like they need to “weigh” the bears, etc.

That second pic–does that look like zoological scientific survey? NO! That is a straight up cuddle. Lucky scamming bastard “scientists.”

  88. Hey, librarian, that’s what I like to call my husband, the Marine.

  89. Really?

Am I REALLY the first person to say it?

    Well, all right.

    : ahem :

BTW Teho awesome, awesome almost-made joke.

  90. Ohhhh I love this one:

you can see just how tiny he/she is…

  91. Paunchie says:

I actually knew that about Teddy Roosevelt – and that is why they are called TEDDY BEARS. But, maybe I should have said no wonder people responded so well to them!

    Adorabuls. Specially the pawsies.

  92. I don’t want to be contraveral but I think those cubs need checking again, clearly they weren’t tested for snorgability, any volenteers to join me

  93. I’m with the folks who are looking at the claws. Yes, they’re cute baby bears, but those claws are already long enough to put an eye out with one swoop. Still, they are adorabuhl.

  94. Too Late says:

Heeey!!! Where are the cute overlords today???

    I iz sad

  95. As if this weren’t cute enough, try doing a Wikipedia search for “cute.” Flocke is their image! It’s also quite an amazing article, especially if you’re at work trying to prop your eyelids open. (I also searched for “cute overload” and saw that they have all of the rules of cute posted. It’s really quite handy.)

  96. Oops, Knut is their image. *blushing from the polar bear faux paw*
    *blushing from being cheesy*

  97. Plink plink! Sooooo cute! I think I’ll pass on the crawling into the den to poke the mother part, but I could happily spend my days playing with the babies!

  98. brinnann says:

*rushes over to wiki to investigate Wiglet’s evidence*

  99. brinnann says:

*seriously considers adding “bleen” to their synopsis of the vocabulary*

  100. meowandwoof says:

MEG AND THEO, ARE YOU GUYS OKAY? the bears want to know?

  101. brinnann says:

    Yeah, they’re beary concerned.

  102. Good gravy.

I just realized what that first pic reminds me of. The Olsen twins iconic, “she ain’t heavy, she just needs a sandwich” shoulder lean.

    These twins are much cuter.

  103. Sweet Pea says:

    Yes, yes, they’re cute…
But that was yesterday’s daily cute dose.
I need a new dose for today!

  104. Mary (the first) says:

Maybe we could stave off complete withdrawal by looking at our own favorites from the past. I have several but I think the bubble-playing-dolphins would hold me over another little while. Anyone?

  105. Need CUTE!

  106. @Kar: You’re KEELING me today!

Sweet little bears. Just need some nice mittens (or leather gauntlets!) to cover up those claws and a little Febreze and VOILA! Snorgle-ready!

Best of luck to your young Marine, Martha! I can only imagine how difficult it must be to send him off. Keep hanging with the QTE–it makes everything a little more “bearable”. Hee-hee.

  107. Crazy Weinerdog Lady is the luckiest person alive!!!

  108. CoffeeCup says:

I can has new post, pls?

I’m really bored at work, here…* Gob voice* come on!

  109. compy-saur says:

Look at those foots-pads. So pinky and soft. Makes me want to tickle them 😐

  110. cuuuuute bearsies!

now puh-lease, can we have a new dose of (animal) cute!?

    pwetty please!??

  111. I’m trying to locate the video of this. It was on local tv and these two itty bittys were shaking and shaking while being held. Will post if I can find. Please post if you’ve found it!

  112. If you’re in cute withdrawal, you can give my son some clicks at I’m helping him get it going (hence my screen name here), but it’s mainly his thing. He’s 11 and trying to get into a very limited multimedia class at his school. So this is his learning blog, and it’s become a bit of a family project. Sorry to plug another blog here, but hopefully since it’s for a kid’s learning experience, it’s okay. 🙂

  113. I loves dem so, but can we have a new one meggy meggersons? i’ve checked like 20 times today! yes, you have me under your spellz, i am addictidz!!!!
halp! btw, you are a genius……….i don’t even remember how i found this site, it was just chance! been lurking for months, and this is only my 3rd post. everyone on here has so many clever things to say it’s hard to compete! hehe

  114. @dailyhamster: Too cute (and I’m not even that much of a hamster-person!)….

    Good job to your son!

  115. Nancy,

I hope you can find the video. It would be great to see then “live”.

No doubt there were shaking. They must have been cold and scared. All their short lives snuggled up in a dark, warm den with mommy then pulled out into the cold, bright air? Shocking and scaring for any tiny tot. But to secure their safety, they have the best defence ever – cuteness!

  116. @Gail: My son, Jay, said to thank you. He was very pleased with your compliment.

  117. crazy weinerdog lady says:

I’m so sad….. no more cutes today? Oh well I’ll have to just look at my weinerdogs. Here’s some links for weinerdog lovers.

  118. eeieei-o says:

Rub ’em together! Then rub ’em on your face! Eeeeek!

  119. Yitzysmommie says:

Most excellent site, plz tell your son he rocks and I love the hamsterinos.
CO addicts in withdrawls: go to, it is very QTE!

  120. Yitzysmommie says:

Oh, and the bearses? Too moishe Qte!

  121. ashagato says:

    ditto yitzymommie 🙂

    i’m dying from cute withdrawal!

maybe meg’s holding out after this particularly commentrovercial week to remind everyone to APPRECIATE THE QTE!!!

    just a theory…

  122. CoffeeCup says:

Awww, daily hamster!! Please tell your son that he did a great job! There are people that were in one of my college multimedia and design classes that couldn’t even do what he’s done! He should be proud of himself.

  123. I might be disappointed not to see new pictures of the qte…except that every time I navigate over here (oh, once an hour or so), there’s a picture of BABY TWIN BEARS!!!! How could it get any better than this?

  124. Also, crazy wienerdog lady? those wiener dog pictures are really cute.

  125. @CoffeeCup: I will tell him. He is getting strong guidance from his father, a web developer, but Jay does seem to have a natural instinct for this kind of thing.

  126. @Yitzysmommie: Thanks! I showed Jay your comment right before he went to bed, and he grinned from ear to ear. As he walked away, he said, “I rock! Cool.” The Daily Hamster site is turning out to be a great introduction to blogging for him.

  127. Totalee Puppy says:

Thanks for two awesome bear cubs!! This has been
    a really special day…

  128. Totalee Puppy says:–I’m so glad I looked up this site!
All those cute hamsters keep you showing up for more! I love what it says
with the pictures…my favorite is about the hamster paying the “Cute Tax” and the one about the
    fully-armed battlestation.
    Way to go!!

  129. shybanana says:

um, is that baby bear packing heat? (last foto)

  130. Cal, London says:

Lovely pics. Those guys have the best job!

  131. ShyBanana: ha… seriously, it’s a drawstring clip on the dude’s collar.

  132. Is the baby bear on the left sporting tiny peenie action between its legs?

  133. Melissa: ha… seriously, it’s a drawstring clip on… waitaminute!

  134. momof2kitties says:

How old is your son? He’s not really eleven? This site is awesome! Loved it!! 🙂

  135. Good one, Teho!!

@dailyhamsterMom: He DOES rock! (Don’t have any kids of my own, but based on my nephew/nieces, etc., isn’t eleven just the best age???)

  136. @momof2kitties: He really is 11. But like I said above, he’s being coached by his dad, who’s a professional web developer, so he has a distinct advantage!

    @Teho: Excellent! 🙂

@Gail: It is a good age. I used to teach middle school, and I loved the kids. Some of my HS and elementary teacher friends thought I was nuts. LOL!

  137. cute cubs, cute paws. glad to see a new addition to the bear population. thanxs for the pics.
