Awww! I love it when he rolls on his back!

  2. Kristin says:

Ha ha, the butt wiggle as she’s swimming back to the steps! Trying to bite the water! Sooo cute

  3. Alessia says:

So adorable. He looks so happy :)

  4. sunnymum says:

Now how often do we get to see the first freaking swim of a baby polar bear?! AWESOMELY CUTE! OMGPOLARBEAR
    !1!1!

  5. momof2kitties says:

That should have come with a warning! Extreme Proshness alert!

I’m going to pout until I get one of these things for my birthday.

  6. Flockaphiles!

  7. oh what a silly little goofball.

i wish he had a momsie to play with.

    too cute.

  8. katiedid says:

I like how she swims.. she wiggles her entire body back and forth hehehe..

  9. stubbedoo says:

I just want you all to know that I will selflessly sacrifice myself in the name of playing, snorgling and otherwise totally amusing this little polar bear. It’s the least I can do for my country.

  10. I have been done in by the cuteness. Rolling around just like my puppy.

  11. AGH! she’s soooo big! when did that even happen?!?! oh wellz she’s still anerable to the MAX!

  12. lsuhillary says:

This is tooo much, must squeeze!!
    (gets on soapbox)
On a different note, just want to encourage everyone to fill out the petition to the Canadian Prime Minister, in order to stop seal hunting. There is a link advertised here on the top left.Warning, there is a sad picture when you click on the ad, made me cry. How can this horrible, inhumane practice still be going on?? But what is more, what kind of person could club an animal to death? It truly, truly disturbs me.I really don’t care if people will defend the hunts as necessity or tradition. Please, I hope we as a species could find another way to make a buck and acknowledge that just because it is how something has always been done, doesn’t make it right.
    Thanks for letting me vent!
    (gets off of soapbox)

  13. Okay, my boss, who is one the foremost Proustian scholars in America–a very serious man–just came into my office while I was watching this. He stood, staring, mouth a little open. At the end, he said, “Ohmygod, play it again.”

  14. Animalphiles Annie says:

Redzilla – have you seen Little Miss Sunshine??? Is your boss the #1 or #2 Proustian scholar – it matters you know.
    As for Flocke – squeeeee!

  15. @Redzilla: Only a silly squirming baby polar bear can break down even the hardest of men! :D

Serious CUTE in this… now I know what to put on my Santa list for this Xmas!

  16. Annie: we harass my boss about that all the time. Usually by saying something like, “Where do you rank today? #1? #2?”

  17. Superfrisk!

  18. I tried the pouting thing to get one of these for my birfday and it didn’t work. :( I must work on my technique.

  19. MilkFilledAndroid says:

omg how can she do that! Too much bouncin and wigglin and aaaaaagh

    *explodes*

  20. berthaslave says:

    Yay Flocke!

Yay British people for making a nice little news piece. In America, we’d only get to see this for 4 seconds over the closing credits for the news, or with Bob Saget’s stupid voice pretending to be Flocke.

  21. lsuhillary – you go ahead and rant, girl. I’m with you! I cannot understand how this is allowed to go on. Even if you ignore the cruelty and barbarism (which I cannot), you’d think Canada would see this as a PR nightmare and take appropriate steps to ban the practice.

  22. AWWWWWWWW!!!!
    This just made my day!!

  23. I disagree with you two about the seals. Those people kill seals on a small scale for food so they can survive. The difference between them and people who live else where is that other’s don’t have to get their hands dirty because their meat is processed in a speedy factory by some third party. Just think about that before you run around protesting how people live.

  24. Sorry Grace but you don’t have the facts. The numbers are enormous, and it’s for the fur industry.

  25. What a sweet girlie!
Have you seen the Flocke-Song (in English):
    http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=RyEegeCR8DM

  26. Oh yeah, I forgot to add that I’m not condoning the killing of animals, but I’m just saying that there are more sides to the story than evil killers going after baby seals. Do you even know the type of harsh conditions people in the north live in? I don’t think its something that you should just brush off. If you’re going to vent about the seals and how inhumane the practice of hunting them is, then you might as well pick up the fight for less cute animals as well.

  27. berthaslave says:

Can we at least have the baby seal debate when it is actually a picture of a baby seal? And maybe not even then? Peeps — we all know that we’re ALL concerned about the fate of animals to one degree or another, and we ALL KNOW where to find information if we need it. I don’t mind debates that are on-topic, but there’s no need for a flame war at this point, is there?

  28. Mary (the first) says:

Chawal that was truly evil to include that link because now I will have that song in my head 4EVER!! Very cute! Almost as cute as the little flake himself! Years ago I saw a short movie (at our zoo) called “Cheechako’s first day” of a little polar bear’s first day in teh exhibit with pool, etc. Similar to this vid. but much longer and SO sweet. I think he had his mama too, showing him the ropes.

  29. Barbara says:

    I love seals.

But let’s just enjoy the video of the swimming behbeh bear, huh?

  30. Courtney says:

OMG! She rolls around like a doggie to get dry! :) So cute.

  31. Theresa says:

I love Flocke, but I love Knut, too. Don’t forget Knut now just because he weighs a ton!

  32. It is illegal to kill baby seals. And the seal population is huge.. they aren’t endangered, the hunt is regulated, and it controls fish population so two Canadian industries are protected. It’s a major source of income for the northern population. The seal hunt isn’t great, I agree.. there are people who are breaking the rules and killing babies inhumanely, but that is the same for every hunting practice out there. Baby seals are cute and that is why they get so much attention.

  33. Mine wants a baby polar bear..LOL

Oh, and my husband just looked on shaking his head as I swayed back and forth in time with the Flocke song…

  34. Juniper Jupiter says:

Best part! 0:22, She looks up at the camera with a face that sez, “Hey, ‘toopid! Put the camera down and jump in! The water’s great!!” :D

  35. Joan Carlson says:

Three little letters that say it all:

    A h n

  36. ashagato says:

i think that flocke song may have finally wedged the breadshoes lady song out of my head, after an excruciating 24 hours!

  37. ashagato says:

    nope. spoke too soon. again.
(“it feels, so good/it feels so good/it feels so good…”)

  38. How is it that approximately 50% of the commenters her think Flocke is male, despite the announcer consistently saying “her”? FLOCKE IS A GIRL. Knut is a boy.

Anyway, she is incredibly cute. I love when she wipes the water off her nose.

  39. Berthaslave, and all lovers of commentroversy-free Cute – I apologize. I was wrong to use this happy place in such a manner. I just got caught up in the outrage. I am truly sorry. Forgive?

  40. I am also sorry about starting up things here, I should have picked a better place to debate, especially since I was so off topic. Rachel said it much better than I did anyway.

So back to the original reason I even clicked on the comments, Flocke is so cute. I can’t believe how big she’s gotten! It seems like just a month ago she was so tiny.

  41. Love. LOOOVVVEE!

  42. Hey the part where he actually gets into the water is missing. This reminds me of the Zapruder film.
    *looks around suspiciously*

  43. Totalee Puppy says:

Hey Hey Whattya Say–T.Puppy here thinkin’ bout
get my human ta put me in
    a shipper box with lotsa

  44. where is the video gone? I didn’t get to watch it earlier and now there is just a big white space. Is this an april fool joke? A polar bear swimming in white water on a white screen? :(

  45. ashagato says:

    cheers to lisa and grace!

how lovely to see people deal with things in such a gracious manner.

you’re an example to us all…

  46. OHHHH MY GOODNESS.

THE FLAILING PAWS AT THE END.

    ::DEAD::

  47. Hon Glad says:

I love the way she wets her face first, just like the swimming instructor tells you to.

  48. Totalee Puppy says:

    LSUHILLARY–Hey, thanks for
tellin it like it is…got one-a my human partnrs ta send that letter to (hope I get this right) Canada’s
    Minister of International
    Trade…Humane Society send

  49. Totalee Puppy says:

    HON GLAD–I suppose to wet
    my face first? No wonder
swimmin aint been feelin right all this time…Suppose to have a
    swimmin instructor? Why’m
    I feelin a little deprivational? Hey–what
    matters is—FLOCKE deserve
THE BEST! Only THE BEST, BABY–Im just a little puppy from the streets, but
    YOU-you’s the POSTER CHILD
    OF EVERYTHING!!

  50. Poohbear says:

The way she frisks at the end!!!! aahhhnnnn!!! Hope she gets a bigger pool later, and some interaction with her own kind. Flocke is the cutest girl.
But… Don’t get me started on polar bears in the wild and global warming! Peeps, if you didn’t already, please get your info up to date, and then do the right thing for our environment. Flocke is there for that, too.
Won’t do this often here on CO, but that’s what cute means to me, too. (OK, go on, shoot me!)

  51. Too moishe.

  52. Oh! I totally let on about the Cuteoverload at work. I had to call over my coworker to watch Flocke! Too much! Love the rolling on her back! So beautiful. Too bad they grow up to be ferocious killers!!!!!

  53. Separated from her mother for safety reasons? What’s up with that?

  54. lsuhillary says:

I want to apologize for starting anything, but the link for the seal hunting petition is on the CO page, I just wanted to bring attention to it. If you don’t agree signing the petition, don’t sign it.

P.S. My fave part of this video is when Flocke goes up the stairs. Nubby tail alert!!!

  55. juggle geese says:

Migraineur, polar bears often kill their own offspring. Especially when they are nervous.

  56. oooh i cant believe those germans wanted to kill this little guy :(

  57. zahrada says:

@sink: Nobody wanted to kill Flocke. And nobody wanted to kill Knut either. That story was just based on a put out of context quote. The German tabloid Bild, which in known for not giving a d*mn about the truth as long as the lies sell, made up this story. What actually happened is, that the zoo in Leipzig had a sloth bear baby killed, which had been abandoned by its mother. (And before you get started on this, you need to consider, that raising it by hand would have been very difficult and would have let to behavioural disorders resulting in having to keep it in a cage for itself the rest of its life.) Anyway, a n animal rights activist took the zoo to court because of this. He lost, because the judges said that killing the baby prevented the suffering it would have had all its life after having been brought up by hand. The animal activist thought that verdict so ridicolous, that he sued the Berlin zoo for having Knut raised by humans. The idea behind it was: If killing the sloth bear is legal, because its better for the bear than raising it by hand, raising Knut that way must be illegal. He did not want Knut to be killed, he just wanted to point out how unagreeable the verdict concerning the sloth bear was iin his opinion. Then the tabloids heard of that and made him most hated man in the country, because they quoted him saying, the Berlin zoo should kill Knut.

  58. Made me smile, and think that there is still something good in the world.

But also thank you for the alert to sign the anti-seal clubbing letter!

  59. holy s—
    this was beyond cute
    on so many levels
    blew me away!
I have no witticisms only adoration!

  60. Must…poke…bear…in…belly. Must. More than once. POKING! THERE MUST BE BEAR POKING!

    Sorry…I’m okay now…

  61. Christine H says:

That is so adorable! The part that really got me was when she rolls around at the end.
