Rule of Cuteness #39: Nuzzable mini-chests are cute

by Meg on March 11, 2008

Sparky the teeneh Boston Terrier would like to show you his miniature, snorglable, slightly chub-rolled, soft-as-heck chest.

You may now go back to your regular work day.

Sparky2_2

Kevin T., Sparky is one cute lil’ mofo.

I want to bury my nose in his chest and just snorgle him!

What a cute little guy! Thanks Meg!

MINI-CHEST!!!

“You may now go back to your regular work day.”

How? How, I ask you, am I supposed to return to my normal work day after that?

6 charliewabba 03.11.08 at 7:21 pm

To say nothing of the muzzle pouches…
(kisses them ever so gently)

7 greenighs 03.11.08 at 7:23 pm

I agree, brinnann. Unpossible.

8 Ann 03.11.08 at 7:26 pm

*squeee* BOSTON! I want him…

9 MandaBain 03.11.08 at 7:28 pm

He looks so skinny! What a teeny chest cavity. I’m used to Boston’s lookin more muscular/barrel-chested than that (course I realize he’s a pupster). He’s like “I can haz more porridge peas, suh?”

10 eikoleigh 03.11.08 at 7:30 pm

oh, those eyes are so soulful. Precious little pup.

13 Theresa 03.11.08 at 7:44 pm

Eeeeeeek! Giant Head!

Reminds me of a bebeh BT I once met called Mr. Bean– because he looked like a little bean! Get it!?

14 Theresa 03.11.08 at 7:46 pm

Come to think of it, don’t tell my brother, but he looks a lot like my nephew, too. :P

15 ThreeCatNight 03.11.08 at 7:49 pm

Maybe it’s me, but I’m thinking there’s a lot of Buster Keaton in that face.

16 Theo 03.11.08 at 8:05 pm

I see it too, 3CatNight. Not Keaton’s *early* work, though. Check this out…

His head’s bigger than his body! He’s like an Easter Island statue pup.

18 Bianca 03.11.08 at 8:19 pm

This is cute? It’s a little ugly bugged eyed mutt. It’s a shame that this is on the same page as all the other adorable animals… especially the cute little kittens.

19 meowandwoof 03.11.08 at 8:22 pm

BIANCA, YOU MUST BE KIDDING???? THERE IS NO PREJUDICE ON THE QTE!!!!! WE TOLERATE ALLALLLALLLL THAT IS CUTE. NUFF NUFF….

48 Barbara 03.12.08 at 12:34 am

That’s it. I must have a Boston Terrier. I only like to adopt though so I’ll need to find one for adoption.

49 Clare 03.12.08 at 12:39 am

Wait, is that head on the right body? Or is that a seriously fuzzed-up perspective? o.O

50 Ann 03.12.08 at 1:17 am

Barbara, petfinder.com!

And yes, the doggles. Methinks he would like mighty cute with the skull and crossbones ones. (My pup has the plain red ones.)

51 muhj 03.12.08 at 1:25 am

Snorgtacular! Onlee moar snorglabuhls if heeee wuz kitteh!!!!

52 DLR 03.12.08 at 2:36 am

awww, i have a fond spot for boston terriers thanks to my great-aunt. hers would balance a treat on his nose and upon command would swipe it into his mouth. he also followed me around all the time whenever she visited with her sister-in-law (my grandmother). i think boston terriers make very good companions and they’re well-trained to boot!

53 berthaslave 03.12.08 at 3:00 am

I don’t know, Teho, here’s an earlier Keaton photo that I think is comparable:

http://www.things-and-other-stuff.com/images/MASTOSprofiles/keaton/1920s-5×7-fp1.jpg

(Don’t get me started on Keaton. I’m an expert. It’s on my resume.)

I’m also still gonna say “Nibbler” from “Futurama” (yes, I’ve said it before, but if the shoe fits…)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Nibbler_%28futurama%29.jpg

54 cronite5 03.12.08 at 3:10 am

Nibbler, yes, I see it.

55 Subhangi 03.12.08 at 4:31 am

AWWWWW, a teeny puppeh wif a giant HAYD!!!

It’s a bit too warm for pudding here … anyone got some orange juice? ;)

56 Danielle 03.12.08 at 4:49 am

I look at him and I cannot BELIEVE how darn cute he is. I want him in my life. I have a half boston/ half shi tzu and he is cute. but this??!?!? wow.

57 Sandy 03.12.08 at 5:06 am

Awwwww. Bostons are my most favorite dog breed ever. Cutest things with wonderful characters.

58 AF 03.12.08 at 5:20 am

Unfortunately, he doesn’t do it for me. Something about the dead eyes, I think.

59 Bo Babbyo 03.12.08 at 6:10 am

Previous posters are accurate: This pooch looks EXACTLY like Buster Keaton. I thought he WAS Buster Keaton.

60 Hon Glad 03.12.08 at 7:15 am

Boston looks as if “I cannot tell a lie”

61 Kristni 03.12.08 at 9:00 am

62 pixie-stix 03.12.08 at 10:33 am

He’s perfected the “please, pleeeze, pleeeeezzzze, can I have another puppy treat thing nom nom nom” look.

63 Bry 03.12.08 at 11:49 am

ZOMG SO ADORABLE! I love Boston terriers – they’re fantastic little dogs. Really affectionate, and of course incredibly cute ^_^

64 Bianca 03.12.08 at 12:49 pm

@ meowandwoof, momof2kitties

There is a difference between being intolerant and being honest, and I was being honest. That dog is not cute; quite ugly it is. There are other cute dogs that could have been posted in its place. The yellow lab pup posted earlier was a good example.

And licking? It’s gross. Especially when you consider where the tongue has been. I don’t even like it when my cat licks me, though fortunately she doesn’t do it often.

65 meowandwoof 03.12.08 at 1:03 pm

…good for yur cat, ms. nufnuf

66 Holy Cuteness 03.12.08 at 1:08 pm

Boston terriers… you just gotta love them…

67 MandaBain 03.12.08 at 1:41 pm

Bianca – There is also a difference in being honest and sounding off like your opinion is superior to everyone elses. If you had said “IMHO” or at least acknowledged that your opinion is your own and not a fact, you wouldn’t stir up the anti-nuffers. Everyone has a right to their opinion, just be considerate in sharing it. Bostons are cute to MANY and writing them all off as wrong is rather rude.
I’m done. YAY PUPPIES OF ALL KINDS!!!

68 Amy 03.12.08 at 1:54 pm

Someone mentioned dead eyes. I don’t think they are “dead eyes”. I think the eyes are saying “I find all this picture taking to be tiresome. Yes, I understand that I’m cute. Would you please let me be???” Hah hah.

69 Rumi 03.12.08 at 2:03 pm

MandaBain is correct, Bianca.

You are entitled to think that this puppy isn’t cute, just as the rest of us (or most of us, at any rate) are entitled to think that the puppy is adorable.

Though I wonder why you bothered to post at all, if you only wanted to post a negative. Really, what’s the point of that, on a site like this?

70 fifi 03.12.08 at 2:09 pm

awesome new rule!!!!
My cat has one of those mini-chests, it’s totally true they are so cute and adorable.

71 momof2kitties 03.12.08 at 2:59 pm

My kitters would love to lick the puddinks off someone…and I’d let ‘em, too. Being licked by my kitties can’t be any germier than holding on to a grocery cart handle or any other number of things I encounter daily.

I’m done now.

Yay for mini-chests! Next to cat pits they are one of my favorite snorgle spots!

72 Sarah 03.12.08 at 2:59 pm

What an angel! That chest won’t stay tiny for long. Looks like my Macy when she was a puppy. (Now I call her Ham!)

73 brinnann 03.12.08 at 3:03 pm

:( I went to the Doggles site, and they have these ADORABLE fashion walking harnesses, but they only come in Teacup, XXS, XS, and Small. Honey’s a large. :(

74 kristen 03.12.08 at 3:05 pm

MandaBain…you’re the one that is sounding off like YOUR opinion is superior to everyone elses. Everyone has a right to post their opinion, including Bianca. I love Bostons but this is a poorly bred Boston as you can see by it’s messed up eyes (that’s a fact, not an opinion). There’s nothing cute about poor breeding (opinion, not fact).

75 Noelegy 03.12.08 at 3:42 pm

True story. My late grandmother once had an aging Boston terrier named Buster (no kidding! Maybe she saw the connection too). Buster liked to lie on the floor behind my grandmother’s armchair and pass gas. Loudly. But if you were out in the living room, you couldn’t see the dog, just hear these terrible noises coming from behind the chair of this very proper Southern lady. She would always say, “Buster’s feeling a bit windy today.”

76 Rosalynde 03.12.08 at 3:46 pm

kinda looks like Humphrey Bogart to me . . .. maybe its the big soulful eyes

77 i've had enuff 03.12.08 at 3:58 pm

Dear BIANCA,
I have never posted a comment here, although I check the posts regularly. I am generally afraid to look at the comments because it really brings me down, and confuses me when people come to a sight that is clearly ONLY GOODNESS, and feel the need to post nastiness. These miserable people have kept me from looking at the comments until today, and of course, here you are. Your post was so upsetting that I was kinda wishing horrible things on you, and wanted to let you know you are EVIL TO THE CORE. This is a fact, as solid and evident to me as the puppy’s ulginess is to you. Have a horrible day.

78 i've had enuff 03.12.08 at 4:00 pm

OOPS – i meant to write ’site’.

79 metsakins 03.12.08 at 4:04 pm

Puddin?, puppehs?

*Wakes up from tax return processing stupor*

Squeee!

Vanilla Please!

80 megusmaximus 03.12.08 at 4:06 pm

Bianca, would you say what you have said to this dog’s owner? Would you tell its owner to their face that it’s an “ugly bugged eyed mutt”?

If you wouldn’t say it to someone in person, don’t say it on-line. It’s cowardly.

And what exactly is the purpose of posting something so negative?

It’s one thing when nuffers post comments that have to do with their concern about the safety or well-being of an animal. While I rarely agree with those nuffers, at least they’re doing it from a place of concern. But your post, Bianca, seems to come from a place of mean-spiritedness.

For the record, I think this pup is adorable.

81 nakey 03.12.08 at 4:24 pm

Hear, hear! We cannot go back to work. There has been a new rule of cuteness estableeshed!
Does thees not call for an EENTERNATIONAL HOLIDAY?
Ladies and gentlemen, I ask of you.

82 Holly 03.12.08 at 4:27 pm

I feel like we’re wandering into bad sequel territory with the rules of cuteness.

83 Mary (the first) 03.12.08 at 4:49 pm

BARROOOOOOOO!!! (mournful howl) no new posts since yesterday?! how am I to endure the upcoming staff meeting without a new qt-pie to envision?!

84 tank 03.12.08 at 4:51 pm

I love these!

85 Mary (the first) 03.12.08 at 4:52 pm

oh, and, I skimmed some of the comments and just have to align myself on the side of “this puppeh is CUTE not ugly!”

86 Theo 03.12.08 at 5:01 pm

Well, I’m convinced. If this Bostie wasn’t already named “Sparky” (which I’m sure Meg appreciates especially) I would insist that he be known henceforth as Buster.

Now, who’s got a Harold Lloyd puppy? How about a Laurel-and-Hardy combo? Maybe even a whole Three Stooges Litter?

87 Bianca 03.12.08 at 5:15 pm

@ megusmaximus

Actually, I would tell someone their dog is butt ugly, and I don’t write stuff online I wouldn’t say in real life.

Besides, this is supposed to be a site dedicated to cute animals and I felt that this picture failed to represent that. As a frequent visitor I felt sad that there wasn’t something cute posted and wanted to make my feelings known.

I find it misleading to call something cute when it plainly isn’t. There are plenty of other cute animals that were posted. This just wasn’t one of them.

http://www.weaselhut.net/IM000021.JPG

And I don’t have a bias against dogs, just extremely un-cute ones.

This is a cutey: http://www.weaselhut.net/IM000021.JPG

That’s my mom’s (spoiled brat) black lab. Yukon is a cute dog. Take a look.

88 megusmaximus 03.12.08 at 5:30 pm

Well, Bianca, if you’re the type of person that would tell somebody their dog is ugly, I don’t know what to say. I can’t fathom why you would feel the need to potentially hurt somebody’s feelings just for the sake of making your feelings known.

In the future, why don’t you just e-mail Meg your feelings, rather than posting in the comments section? Your comments haven’t done anything here except annoy other people. If your ultimate goal is to affect the content of this site, it seems more logical to e-mail the person responsible for the content.

89 Jakob 03.12.08 at 5:54 pm

That is soooo McLovin reincarnated.

90 metsakins 03.12.08 at 6:01 pm

after lookin’ at this anerable fella some more I’m reminded of Cindy Loo Who.

can’t you just hear him “Santy Claus, Santy Claus, why?”

91 Desdemona 03.12.08 at 6:01 pm

To paraphrase a famous political quote: I have seen ugly dogs. Ugly dogs have been my friends. And this, sir, is not one of them.

That is all.

92 brinnann 03.12.08 at 6:04 pm

Mary (the first), I suggest imagining you have several large bowls of pudding in various flavors and consistencies ready to launch at other staff members when they same something puddin’-worthy. That should make your staff meeting go a little better, at least in your head. :)

93 Ender 03.12.08 at 6:12 pm

Wow, calling a dog ugly (and especially if that owner happens to hear it, as I’d be willing to bet that a good bit of the people who submit their pictures will also read the comments when posted) is pretty rude. What each of us thinks is cute is subjective: for instance, I love dogs, but I don’t think Labs are as “cute” as a lot of people think, but I’d never comment to call it ugly.

Sure, there are such things as genuinely ugly animals, like the entries in the Worlds Ugliest Dog competition (poor things). But the little guy above is not one of them, whether he’s your taste of cuteness or not.

94 Theo 03.12.08 at 6:15 pm

Oi Peeps.

Can we be done with the name-calling now? Everybody? Please? Believe it or not, I don’t actually *enjoy* locking out the post comments.

95 Rumi 03.12.08 at 6:16 pm

Bianca,

If you actually WOULD tell someone their dog is “butt ugly”, then you are in serious need of some maturity. Adults don’t intentionally hurt the feelings of other people who have done them no harm.

As for the “cute or not” issue — as mentioned, you have a right to your opinion. You also have a right to express it. But when your opinion is a negative one, and about something like this (as opposed to a political discussion, for example, where alternate viewpoints are important), why bother?

You said “I find it misleading to call something cute when it plainly isn’t.” Again, that is a matter of opinion, not fact.

96 larakimbo 03.12.08 at 6:28 pm

I rarely put my two cents in, but I actually feel strongly about this one. Bianca has a right to her opinion, as do the rest of us.

However, I believe in the saying “if you have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all”. And that goes for the nuffers and all those who would want to respond negatively to them.

This is a free site, and there have been several times that I have seen something that made me respond “meh”. But that just makes me appreciate the differences we all have. We can learn from each other by trying to see things their way, but we can also learn by saying ” i agree to disagree”.

So I say appreciate our differences and if you see something you don’t think is cute, shrug, and let it go. Something you find adorable will probably be posted soon.

97 Annie 03.12.08 at 6:34 pm

Wanders in with a delicious boston cream filled donut and a cup of coffee.. I realize it is almost lunch time here on the west coast but still.. ; )

100 Rumi 03.12.08 at 6:46 pm

Annie, you’re right — he DOES have Princess Di eyes, lol!

His cute smooshy little muzzlepuff is what really gets me, though. :-)

101 Annie 03.12.08 at 6:52 pm

Hai Rumi.. HOpe you are having an awesome day.

I know he is just so cute. I want to sneak him home in a pocket but I think my cats would make short work of him.

102 metsakins 03.12.08 at 6:58 pm

100th comment!

Hey Annie – you better have brought donuts for all of us!

103 annie 03.12.08 at 7:17 pm

Hey Metsie, but of course.. I got bear claws too. and those cake ones with the nut coating.. i love those.. and of course glazed and chocolate glazed and those ones with all the sprinkles on them…and hot chocolate and just for TEHO a Starbucks grande.

104 Annie 03.12.08 at 7:20 pm

Hey Metsie Have you been able to get into the castle today.
I got in once but it won’t let me navigate anywhere in there today.

105 Red 03.12.08 at 7:26 pm

Annie, you’re right. I thought it was just me, but the little guy totally reminds me of Eyore. Poor little ‘woe is me’ guy…you’re so right.

haha, I want to hug him just so he will feel better…

106 oaklandcat 03.12.08 at 7:46 pm

Annie, Metsie, Brie– where’s our castle? :(

107 oaklandcat 03.12.08 at 7:47 pm

BTW this pup is cuuuute! This pic made me gasp with the Qteness.

108 brinnann 03.12.08 at 7:47 pm

Annie, I’m having issues with the mansion today, too. I got in early this morning, but didn’t get past the first thread before it zonked out on me.

Oh, and pass a Boston-creme-filled, please. :) I can haz creamhorns, but they’re at home :(

109 brinnann 03.12.08 at 7:50 pm

Jinx Oakie. I’ve forgotten the other Buddy Lives test site. What is it?

110 Annie 03.12.08 at 7:57 pm

Hey Brinn Oakie and Metsie. I went to the support page apparently they updated two servers and are having lots of problems with it still
I suspect it will be later tonight before it is fixed there were at least 25 angry other web administraters with notices of problems on there.

111 oaklandcat 03.12.08 at 8:04 pm

Brie, I’ve forgotten too.

112 metsakins 03.12.08 at 8:11 pm

I’ll take a boston creme too. ; ) (’cause the innard are like puddin’!)

113 Annie 03.12.08 at 8:27 pm

I can’t remember the other site either.

but this pup really could be his own boston cream pudding pup.
; )

114 metsakins 03.12.08 at 8:34 pm
115 Zoe 03.12.08 at 8:42 pm

No. No, I cannot go back to my regular work day. The cuteness sucked out all my work ethic.

116 tank 03.12.08 at 8:53 pm

bianca I hope you get rabies

117 annoyedbyknuckleheads 03.12.08 at 9:05 pm

I think this issue was best handled on Seinfeld. Ugly dogs, like babies, can simply be referred to as “breathtaking”.

Or, people could find a way not to post their every waking thought on the internet. That’d be a novel idea.

118 catablob 03.12.08 at 9:18 pm

People, that’s not ‘nuzzable’ that’s ‘nuzzLE-able’ ‘NUZZLEABLE”

and also not “NUFFLEABLE”

I’m just going to put my underwear on my head, stick pencils up my nose and say:
“awubble.”

119 dolphingirl 03.12.08 at 9:22 pm

There is no such thing as an ugly animal…there is, however, such a thing as a person that is ugly on the inside. This puppy is adorable….much more so than a certain poster.

120 biancasux 03.12.08 at 9:31 pm

TANK:
LOL! I’m with you on that :)
Also, there was a comment earlier addressed to Bianca, and I just logged on to show someone, and I’ve found it has been deleted! Wha??? It didn’t use any profanity, and it seems strange to edit comments like that. Any thoughts on why, Mr.or Ms. comment-editor? Just wondering. OH – and that puppy is pure sweetness.

121 Bianca 03.12.08 at 9:34 pm

@ Rumi

So, the problem is now the choice of words? I’d hate to see how you’d react if I had written it differently.

@ larakimbo

Precisely. I never had a problem with people saying it’s cute. I have often found posting where I go “meh”. This one was the exception. I have my opinion, and I know people here obviously think that it’s not right, or that it’s not “mature”.

Of course, you can easily say something is ugly and still be mature. I could have said it otherwise.

At this point, I still stand by opinion that the dog is indeed ugly. Then again, if the picture didn’t show it looking bug-eyed, it might have helped but the picture does not help matters, and doesn’t make the dog look “cute”.

@ Ender

If the owner heard, they could make their feelings known.

Now the personal attacks start?

Eek! Can’t we all just say that Bianca thinks (yes, things, appearance is a matter of personal opinion no matter what) that this puppy is ugly and most of the rest of us think it’s quite anerable, and enjoy our pudding in peace?

I’ve come to a decision–I love this beautiful little puppy and when I saw the picture it made me happy. Then, when I looked at some of the comments, it took my happiness away. I’m one of those people who has a difficult time finding happiness, but when I do find it, I treasure it. And maybe it’s a little cheesy, but I treasure this site. So, from now on, I’m just going to enjoy the pictures and movie clips, and keep my little eyes away from the comments pages :) I know most people have positive and constructive things to say, and I’m glad for that, but sometimes the comments can cascade down into unpleasant territory, and it just makes me a little too sad to see that. I wanna be happy when I come here–let’s all love the cuteness and be happy while we’re here!

124 Annie 03.12.08 at 10:32 pm

Frosty Most people on here just post nice comments there are a few who come on to stir things up on both sides of the issue like today. I usually ignore them and concentrate on the cute.

125 Too Many Maureens 03.12.08 at 10:40 pm

@catablob:

Is that like a NUFFLEUPAGUS? Because if we only ever heard *about* them and never *from* them, that’d be waaaaay cool.

126 all of us 03.12.08 at 10:56 pm

If we all stop posting comments, will Megan and Theo please please post some new cute pictures? We promise never ever to be so annoying again ever.

127 all of us 03.12.08 at 11:05 pm

not to brag or anything, but it worked – check out the time stamp on the promise from all of us above and the time stamp on the first comment on the newly posted, non-bug-eyed, 100% adorable sugarglider!

128 zee 03.13.08 at 12:14 am

sweeet! a bobble head that can do more than just wobble, it can bark, and be fed, & sleep & look cuter than a fake one!! That’s not fair, I want one to put on my desk!!

129 Mia 03.13.08 at 12:44 am

Dang. This site’s comments may have had nuffers, but not **nts like bianca. Too bad there’s no safe place on the net.

130 AuntieMame 03.13.08 at 3:16 am

I keep thinking of that old adage, that “opinions are like @$$holes. We’ve all got ‘em. And nobody else wants to hear ‘em.”

131 PJ 03.13.08 at 3:39 am

Oy. Note to self: when comment count goes over 100, avert eyes (yeah, I know, I’m not helping). I vote cute! But then I think bugs are cute too. So what do I know?

132 soxfan 03.13.08 at 4:22 am

I adore dogs. All dogs. And I’m very happy about that! :o )

133 JennieMello 03.13.08 at 5:06 am

Remember the State on MTV in the 90s?
Barry and Levon LOVE puddin’…And I am sure they love this puppie. Awwwwwwwwwwwyeah.

134 MLO 03.13.08 at 4:46 pm

For those motivated to adopt a Boston Terrier (and how can you not be after looking at that cutester) please, please, please check your local pound first.

You’d be amazed at the dogs that wind up there. That’s where we found our Roscoe…who is a purebred Boston Terrier. He’s just a little bigger than the breed standard.

My nick links to a photo of him.

135 Jenny 03.13.08 at 7:02 pm

I love Boston Terriers. I have one and he is the light of my life.

And after all, this website is called “Cute Overload” not “Do you think it’s cute?”

This is a place for people to share their love of fuzzy sweet things. If you don’t think it’s cute, don’t comment. I think that goes for all things; I wouldn’t show pictures of my godchildren to someone and say “aren’t they cute?” and expect someone to say “Actually, that child is butt ugly.”

People treasure things, and if you have a different opinion then that’s fine, but please keep it to yourself. This isn’t a “rating” site. No one wants to know HOW cute something is. It’s a place to be happy and enjoy pictures, and if you can’t, then don’t comment.

…oh, wups. Hehe.

137 Suda Nim 03.13.08 at 10:43 pm

I grew up with Bostons, and after I left home, my parents continued to have them, so I’ve been involved with six in my lifetime and loved them all.

My mom, who loves them even more, says “Cutest dogs ever. Brains of a house fern….”

138 jimmy 03.14.08 at 2:42 am

Some people don’t have a good sense of cute, just like some people don’t have a good sense of humor. The dog is adorable

139 imacatpersonanyway 03.14.08 at 5:52 am

I swear, this is what that dog’s face reminded me of: http://swg.stratics.com/content/lore/personas/images/ackbar.gif

NOT that I mean to stir up more tension or anything; I just thought it was a funny comparison… Star Wars nerd! =P

140 Sigmagirl 03.14.08 at 5:34 pm

The first dog I’ve ever seen with a concave chest!

141 KatieBell 03.14.08 at 9:52 pm

I dub this argument Cute-gate 2008.

142 Alina 03.14.08 at 11:38 pm

He looks like Bart Simpson :)

143 Gridzter 03.15.08 at 10:43 pm
