So Mr. Bond. We finally meet…

David – there’s a pretty little legend about why tabby cats have an “M” on their foreheads:
When Baby Jesus was still a newborn, he started to cry and wouldn’t stop. Mary was new to motherhood, and nothing she could think of would make the baby stop crying. Soon she was exhausted, and about to start crying herself. Just then one of the barn cats in the stable, a striped cat who looked vaguely Egyptian, jumped into the manger, lay down beside the baby, and began to purr. In just a few minutes, the soothing sound and vibration put the baby right to sleep. A grateful Mother Mary touched the cat just above the eyes, and said, “From now on you will wear my initial, as a mark of my thanks.” And that’s why tabby cats have an M on their foreheads.

(p.s. – I am a Wiccan Priestess, but I love this story anyway.)

Or, the “M” could stand for “mau” (Egyptian name for cat) or “mao” (Chinese name for cat, maybe we got it from them through the silk road?).

For some reason, to me he looks like a snow leopard and I immediately picture him in.. I don’t know, Japanese countryside with pagodas and snow everywhere. Is it just me?? (and he’s on a silk pillow.. need I even say that…)
