It’s OK, CNN has another one, I’m sure.

  5. bookmonstercats says:

Clevah ferrrret. What will he do with it, I wonder?

  6. Ben says:

    {Nerd alert} Pretty sure that’s just a (rectilinear) wide angle, not in fact a fisheye: the cage lines aren’t curved. {/nerd alert}

  7. Hon Glad says:

Ferret- Ah a new hat for the wife.

  8. rat mamma says:

Oh NO!! He steals a lousey mic cover and they are making him endangered…. That’s not fair… Be nice to furry ferret fellos.

  9. Ira says:

umm, well, it’s definitely not fisheye, (Ben’s right) and the more disturbing thing here is whether they pulled out the piece of plastic or did they wait till he attempted to eat it and become “even more endangered” :-(

  10. kk3 says:

Did any of you all check out the other videos that you can view after you viewed this one (by the way…what a little cutie!)? Those little guys were stealing wallets, shoes even iPods! You would have to 1) hunt all your stuff down every day 2) Frisk them down each night!

  11. bookmonstercats says:

Hon Glad, thank you for letting me know what ferret will do with the cover. Sounds reasonable to me!

  12. jen says:

i say microphone covers for all ferrets!!! just give ‘em what they want! :)

  13. Kristen says:

Zees ferret is quite cute! However…CNN?

  14. Black footed ferrets in literature! http://www.newsweek.com/id/94543

(I like a good romance novel. This article is not about a good romance novel. Also, there may be ads.)

  15. wagthedogma says:

Looks as if microphone covers may soon be endangered as well…

  16. Katina says:

Peg – AMAZING article, even had to show it to my co-workers who read the article in muzzled amusement. Ferrets and bodice ripping, oh my.

  17. Theresa says:

Are black footed ferrets the ancestors of pet ferrets? They look very much the same.

  18. Cat says:

Hee hee, my friend had a ferret. She *finally* found the loose board in the bathroom where it was hiding any and every thing it could fit in the space.

  19. Redzilla says:

I love how Ferretpants is doing his own “camera work.” Zoom in, zoom out, zoom in, zoom out. Extreme closeup!!!

  20. arielle says:

he’s all like, “i shall take dees…kthxbye!” (disappears in hole)

  21. possumpiratess says:

Boize Moi! A leetle Russian hat for ferreeet!

  22. Holly says:

How darling is that. Yoink! Mine now!

  23. CoffeeCup says:

Haha, okay, that was funny, and that ferret was cute. Regular pet ferrets, not so much, but that ferret was cute. It kind of looked like an otter.

And ira, I’m sure they got their mic cover back pretty soon after that…what’s worse though, camera people who don’t exactly know what to do with a ferret hole reaching a hand down, or a trained professional doing it? Doesn’t matter whether the ferret starting munching on it immediately or not, camera people weren’t trained to retrieve it and if they had just stuck a hand down there, it’s possible they could’ve caused damage.

Plus, I’ve heard mics are a great source of protein.

  24. Kimski says:

    Go ferret!!!
Act all scared and then STEEL EET!

  25. TeratoMarty says:

OK, that was hilarious… I didn’t know ferrets had a ‘reverse’ gear, but that little dewd was just zipping backward almost as fast as he went forward. Yes, I think that the mic cover would make an excellent ferret shako. He’ll prolly sleep on it, not eat it. Anyhow, I think that pet ferrets are descended from European stock, not American ferrets, but a weasel’s pretty much a weasel whereever you find it.

    BWAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!XD!!

    Naughty ferret!!!

I always liked ferrets, but I don’t like the concept of keeping one as a pet, I used to, but when I went to a pet store to pick one up, he got in around my neck and snuggled, which was fine, but I couldn’t get his “scent” off me until I took a shower, it wasn’t bad, mind you, but it was noticeable to me…I guess even when he was “descented” he still carried some kind of backup scent on him…Hubby said he couldn’t really detect it…Does anybody else have this issue, or do ferrets really have a backup scent? Or am I just crazy?:P

  29. Juno says:

What? No comments yet about the sound track? That was a BASSOON SOLO, folk–it just doesn’t get cuter than that!

  30. Theo says:

[does the Canine Head Tilt at Juno]

  31. Elizabeth says:

Well Juniper Jupiter my babys still have a slight musky smell but it dosent bother me. Now i’m sure if they wernt decented then it would be very strong. but it just comes ot preffrence. i’m sure some pepole think dogs/cats smell. it just depends on you. I love my babies so i dont notice it. and my ferrets dont really steal much, except their treat bags and my hair brush lol

  32. Juniper Jupiter says:

Ahhh…thanx, Elizabeth!! I KNEW I wasn’t crazy!! Sometimes Hubby rubs my face with a funny smelling cloth and then I get sleepy…:P

It’s just weird how ferrets have that scent on them, tho. I’m not aGAINST people bein’ own’d by ferrets…just my sensitive nose is…(I got three spoiled rotten cats, by the way! :P )I can also tell when a television is on (when the cable box is off) or on the fritz, too!

  33. Sharon Wilson says:

I love how his feet go scrabbling and his front paws go on the lens before he grabs that microphone cover and pops down the hole with it!

  34. Annie J says:

@ Juno: Lol! Yup, loving the solo! Not that I play bassoon – I play oboe…but still! XD

So cute! Cute leetle ferret! :P

  35. AuntieMame says:

Juno, I was just coming in to comment about the bassoon. It absolutely MADE the video. LOL!

Are you using this mic cover? No? I’ll just put it away for you then. Kthxbai!

  36. DLR says:

I lol’d when the ferret had the microphone cover and scooted down its hidey-hole. Wonder if the crew tried to retrieve the cover. I wouldn’t dare put my hand down the hole. No way.

  37. BFFs for ever! I worked in a plague lab for a while (they get it from prairie dogs) so to me, BFF is always “black-footed ferret” and not “best friends forever”.

  38. spiffy says:

pet ferrets come from polecats, not black footed ferrets. they’re all in the weasel family, though.

pet ferrets have the ability to spray, like skunks. descenting them takes this ability away, not their distinctive scent. descenting them doesn’t make them more or less smelly. i have an angora ferret, and his breeder told me that descenting him was necessary. i haven’t had any problems with him spraying.

  39. spiffy says:

    ^descenting him was UNnecessary, rather

  40. Subhangi says:

SQUEEEEEEE!!! I didn’t know that was a bassoon but it tewtally upped the cuteness! Yay ferrets!

  41. Roo says:

    ilu Miles O’Brian

  42. Annie says:

Haaa Glad I got a chance to read the comments.. I had watched this sound off at work and didn’t get a chance to read it.. Now I have rewatched it with the sound on.I love the music it reminds me of Peter and the wolf.
    hehehehe

  43. Theresa says:

Not only a bassoon solo, but winding up with the classic cartoon-sneaky sound of pizzicato strings!
It is an excerpt from Stravinsky’s “Le Furet du Printemps.”

  44. Banni says:

oh my goodness! That was adorable!!! They may be very different ferrets from the European ones we are allowed to have as pets, but I think they are just as cute! (My honey doesn’t agree with me, sadly.) I, too, love the musky smell of my 4 fuzzies, but I can’t think of any animal I’ve been around that I can’t stand the smell of. Well, except for the human male wearing Tag — that stuff is hideous!

As for CNN, they have been doing a program called Broken Government, Scorched Earth and on Thursday they had a piece about the black-footed ferret. I missed it of course, came in at the tail end (haha). I wonder if this was shown in that feature or if it is an online “bonus” piece of video. Anyone catch the program?

  45. pyrit says:

‘ello, me name’s McArtful McDodgersons an’ oi’ll be your micpickpocket t’noit! Thank you!

  46. Metz says:

Wonder how to explain that one back at the office when they put a requisition in for a new one.

What the heck do you need a new mic cover for?

(sheepish voice) a ferret stole it.

WHAT? BWHAHHHAHHAHAHHHAHHA, no really, what happend to your mic cover?

  47. pinklefish says:

“It’s one of the most endangered mammals in North America”
Why?? Because it stole your microphone cover?? NAAAAW don’t be taking the feretty pants out for stealings. I’m sure she’ll give it back if you ask nice.

  48. pyrit says:

    Peeps,
“LOGAN COUNTY, KANSAS — On Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at The Nature Conservancy’s 17,000-acre Smoky Valley Ranch preserve in Logan County, Kansas, 10 endangered black footed-ferrets were released into the wild by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). This reintroduction marks the first time that live ferrets, once believed extinct, have been documented on Kansas soil in 50 years.”

  49. Annie says:

Metz and Pyrit yet again you are making me laugh.

and yay for a return of the black footed ferret(weasle to the wilds of Kansas.. may they live long and prosper with many baby ferrets
