This is ratdiculous. Things were going so well, too.
I think the ‘Truth or Dare’ got out of control. Either that or they just got a crank call to see go outside and see if their refrigerator was “still running”.
Good luck with that tonight, this crazy ‘Raturday’, Emma E.
Your vermin posting request has been granted.

It’s a bundle of snugglables! Sure my birthday was 5 days ago, but better late than never! Thank you CO!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pAvcsTI0c0Y
ahhh how cute 8 little rats jumpin in the beddy bi
Haha, I am new to this site, so here goes nothing…: does this count for lots of BEF?
I love how they’re all squished in one pouch-thing. I love how all the ones one the right (especially the white one) are like – “Grrr! What are ye lookin’ at?!” XD
Youtube person – that was TOO funny. I think I broke something laughing so hard. SUCH DISAPPROVAL!!! And I love how her head NEVER moves.
How many rats can you squish into a hammock? Five!
I can’t help thinking that the the corduroy pouche looks like some kind of male loin attire.
It’s about time CO started posting more rat pics.
NOT CUTE. Yikes!!!! Gross!!!!!!
Are those purple UNDERPANTS?!
Oh, and cute ratties.
Suuuuper cute little ratties!
Aw geez, now I feel all guilty ’cause my rattie doesn’t have any leetle rat buddies to have sleep-overs with.
Gots to go cuddle with her!
rooooooo! WHY was i not invited to this party?! omg, i am missing my rattie girls more than ever.
Annie J — yes! BEF to the max. and welcome!
Rats are not gross when you get to know one. They snuggle just like other furry pets and are very smart. They are very clean too.
and Cheshire Cat — get thine rattie a companion! no matter how much they wrestle, they will thank you for it, especially when sleepy time comes. ratties love a companion!
That looks like loads of fun!! I so wish I had at least one rattie…..
Vermin? VERMIN?!?
SMFR: Ha! Not a banana hammock, but a rat hammock! Hmm… I don’t like where this is going…
Those f-rat party boys can get kind of crazy. You know, after a couple of shots of ratgut, one of them starts speculating as to how many of them can fit into a purple jockstrap….
The phone call came from INSIDE the house! Run!
(Sorry, that’s the babysitting movie, not the slumber party movie)
When do they play CCCC? (you know, cage, cage, cage, cage)
Looks like ratties play much better with others than hammies do. Are there only 5 in there? Are there any more hiding (lurking) anywhere else??
So, so, so, so cute! I love rats so much, they’re such excellent pets that get such a bad rap from the world. I miss my girls so much. Especially my hairless, she was like a smooth pocketwarmer since she was so warm. *snif* D’awwwww. But I digress, haha.
CO needs more ratties!
AAhhhhh can I joinz??!1
YEYYYYY RATERDAY!!!!!!!!!!
no sudden moves and we will all get outta here alive … lol
I love the rat hands. and their whiskers.
Looks like somebody shook the nummy bag. XD
Rats are such cool little pets. I miss my little buddy. <3
AWW. Don’t let ANYbody call them gross! I had rats and they are sweethearts. I miss my sweet girls.
I think they were trying to break the World Record! How many rats DO you have to fit in a hammock sack thingy to break it?
Pocket Pets? In your underwear!!!!!!!!!
Five little ratties, jumpin’ on the bed . . .
Raturday… *LOL* Cute!
PS: Moooooooom, where is our PIIIIIIZZZZZZAAAAAA???
HAh Amy I was thinking the same thing.. it is like those how many folks can you fit into a volkswagon contests LOL
I said I’d skip the comments, but I have a cat that could fix this party
kiss…kiss…kiss…kiss…kiss…(and a couple more -kiss…kiss- in case there’s some I can’t see)
And the little one said Roll over, roll over…
AWESOME! Rats are the best pets and are obsessed with cramming together for snuggle time. I need to go adopt a few more.
Awww… looks like they watched one too many scary movies
This is exactly what my girls do in their little timber-house. Rats are the most cuddly pets ever
Anner, you are so right, and I intend to do just that. But it won’t be an easy task because some members of my family are quite steadfast in their hatred of rats and stubbornly believe that even rats specifically bred to be affectionate and gentle pets are nothing but potentially-rabid vermin. *Exasperated sigh*
CheshireCat — good for you! maybe a gander at a dainty baby rat will help change their minds? anyway, i don’t usually give unsolicited advice, but i was a little tipsy last night and VERY excited to see this pic and hear from other rat lovers! i’m glad you didn’t think i was lecturing or some such, and i’m sure your single rat gets plenty of love a a-teyn-shons. paws (rattie hands) up!
Y’all are all crazy! You’re going to catch plague and other conatmination….Yuck!!! Call the exterminator immediately!
Oh em gee, teh conatimations.
Ratties! They are great…I love the dumbo-ear ones too. There are two types of people in the world: those who haven’t met a pet rat, and those who love ‘em…
All of a sudden, you’re going to hear:
“rrrrrrrrrip!”
That little sleepin bag can’t hold that much rat ‘tocks!
That pic is almost as funny as the one with the four kittens stuffed in the tissue box! People say possums look like rats, but when you look at them rats are cuter!
(Teho, thanks to you I just sprayed my monitor with tea. It was not pretty.)
Ummm. What’s with the white one?
Maybe it’s me but he seems to have a different headshape than the others.
Shaz, hammies don’t play together at all. We always had to keep ours separated and one of my collegues has just lost a ham because she had them all living together… not a happy post, so far, sorry, but always keep hams apart. Anyway, love the ratties. I hadn’t thought about the male attire angle. Yikes. I’d probably jump out of the window if I saw purple cord pants comin’ fer me!!
errm “colleagues”… ?
Eris — oh em gee, teh expectorations.
seven. seven is the most ratties i’ve seen crammed in one of those hammocks – but mine were also mostly girlratties, so smaller than those guys appear to be.
someone asked about the head shape – yes! rats do have different facial features once you get to know them
if they’re from the same litter they usually look alike (like people) but unrelated rats have more or less beady eyes, longer or shorter noses, different shapes of ears..
sorry..i caught an infection from my rats: symptoms include overwhelming desire to crawl into a snuggly pile with rats, to kiss rat bellies, and talk nonsense for hours about ratties…
rabble — yup. definitely sounds like the plague.
Awwwwwww!! That is SO darn cute!!! Bring on more rattie pics!
Bookmonstercats– check it out, it’s PURPLE PAISLEY. It’s an open-and-shut case– those must be PRINCE’s rats!!
Two comments – one: amusing, teh other, not so much.
First (and saddest) a friend of mine had a rat that she loved – it was soooo sweet! She says she’ll never get another one because it’s just asking for heartache…the sweet things just don’t live long enough.
Second, a different friend had a rat (also very sweet…it seems to be a characteristic, no?). When she and her husband were waiting to catch a subway in NYC, she saw a wild rat wandering by, looking for food. Her response: “Oooh! Look! Sweet baby!” Her husband’s response “No, dear…stay back.”
A little note about rats and disease:
Feral dogs, who have to eat garbage and who are chased away from sleeping in any places but the ones so dirty that people don’t want to be there, frequently have fleas and other parasites, and carry a wide range of diseases. These parasites and diseases are rarely found in pet dogs, because pet dogs live in clean places, and because if they do get sick their owners take them to the vet.
So it is with rats. Wild city rats that live in OUR refuse are disease carriers, of course. But pet rats that grow up in clean cages and eat healthy food are not. And when they do get sick – one of mine has a nasty tendency toward respiratory infections! – we take them to the vet to get well.
Finally, rodents rarely give people rabies — and the plague was carried by FLEAS, not rats, and the rats those fleas were on were black rats (Rattus rattus), not the brown rats (R. norvegicus) kept as pets!
Phew, that was long. Anyway, rats are great pets!
flodnak — well said!
repennefe — i do the same thing. “oo! rattie” when i see an NYC subway rat. the rats seem as freaked out by it as the people.
Ok,I don’t care how cute you all say these rats are.
THEY are RATS.It gives me goose bumps just looking them.
For more cute raties go on http://www.mypetrat.com
What kind of rats are those?? And where did you get them?
it will soon be the YEAR of the RAT. yay Rats!
Shaz and bookmonstercats… Sirian hamsters (AKA “teddybear”, “golden” hamsters) are solitary and must be kept by themselves. However dwarf hamsters are social and in the wild they live in colonies. So they actual do better with cagemates. (Of course sometimes they have interpersonal issues, so in that case they might need to be separated.)
lisa… see the problem here is that you haven’t been properly introduced to a cute, affectionate, snuggly little rat that you would inevitably fall in love with. That’s all it would take, honest.
But seiously, they make the best pet. The are very intelligent, learn their names, come when you call them (well… most of the time, especially if they think you have a treat for them) and are extremely affectionate. You just need to get to know them.
A bit late answering questions that came up but..
There are five rats total in that hammock. They’re all girls. As for their size… well.. they were well fed girls.
That hammock never did break. It got renovated to the point where legs hung out of it from umpteen places and had to be retired to hammock heaven.
The white rat, Lolita, may look slightly different in head shape in that photo because the two girls around her are both top-eared, an Lo was dumbo. It gives the impression of the head being shaped/sized differently. It’s an optical illusion.
As for where those guys came from, they were all well-bred pedigreed rats who came from a private breeder. I have the descendants of both Lolita and BigButt (the black head you see poking out).
