bite? heck, these would slide down like advil after a long run. No – check that – they’d scootch themselves down ever so politely! no need for sugar coating.
The thing that amazes me about this picture is how they managed to capture these little doods sitting still! what a lucky shot! If I were holding them they’d be hoppin all over the place!
I almost ran over a few of these with my lawnmower one day! It’s a reel mower, so I don’t think it would have sucked them up and made toad mince, but still! Anyway, I think they’re okay, hopping around in my yard.
How did they get them to stay still long enough to take a picture? When we used to try to play with the froglets in our pond they were always gone before you could see them.
If you have froglets like these you have two reasons to be happy:
1) they’re awesome!
2) it means you have a healthy eco-system. Amphibians are pretty sensitive, so if anything goes wonky they’re the first ones to go.
One summer when I was a kid, we had thousands of teeny tiny hoppy toads all around our town. I never knew where they came from, but they sure were cute!
Wombat was right about these being Solomon Island Frogs.
They are called froglets because the do not go through a tadpole phase at all but emerge from the egg as fully formed teeny-tiny frogs (froglets). Frogs that go through a tadpole phase (almost all of them) are not called froglets when they attain their adult form. They are just itsy-bitsy froggies.
So froglets are double cute, b/c they are not only tiny, but -in the frog world- really, really strange beasties.
Kiragirl – your sprinkle/froggle bit reminds me of a song.
Like to hear it? Here it goes…”Dance your cares away (clap-clap), worry’s for another day. Let the Froggles play, (clap-clap) Down at Froggle Rock,(Dun, Duhn). Down at Froggle Rock – Doo-dooh!”
Almost hate to tell this story, but when I was a kid, we called these ‘dime frogs’ because after a tiny mit clutched one for a while, it would be flattened to the size of a dime! Poor froggies!
THEY’RE SO TEEENYYYY!!! I want to kiss their little wet, slimy, froggy lips! But then they might turn into a prince, and then where would I be?
Awww, the little froglets!
My brother and I used to catch little teeny froggies just like these down at the crick near our house in San Antonio, TX when I was a kid. I always wondered if I was remembering it wrong, ’cause I’ve never seen anything like them since. But here they are again! I’m SO glad they made it

Yay for teeny weeny froggies!
I’ll bet there are tadpoles bigger than these guys!
Those are Solomon Island Leaf Frogs. They are born directly from eggs as tiny froglets without going through a tadpole stage.
On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me:
4 tiny frogs
3 inching worms
2 bebeh badgers
and a squirrel tattoo on my left shoulder.
Gives a new meaning to the words, “Excuse me, my dinner is repeating on me”…”Ribbet” … “Pardon”

I recall seeing froggies that small when I was a kid. They were in a swamp in the back of my sister’s house in CT.

Squeee! I want to kiss them, but I’m afraid I might swallow them by accident. Best to admire from afar and keep my squeee to myself.
