KG Carrie and Argentee — You might like to try what I do that has helped me resist getting more kittehs and puppehs. I volunteer with a group that hosts adoption fairs at our local Petsmarts and Petcos. That way several times a month I get to play with sweet fuzzballs. It’s not the same as having one at home, but it’s a guaranteed face-to-muzzlepuff cute overload everytime.

Carrie, groups differ, of course. In ours, the animals are all in foster care in the homes of animal lovers. They get plenty of attention and are healthy and happy and need nothing but a forever home. Helping them get there is extremely rewarding.

Mrs.Fonebone – I think that is a really harsh judgement, and totally uncalled for. If you actually bothered to read the commentary on the videos, you’d find out that she volunteers at a shelter and helps foster kitties like the wee kitten in this redonkulous video. Very sadly, it is NOT a “no-kill” shelter, and several of her cute vids have some very upsetting backstories. Obviously, one has to be tough to work in that sort of environment – how would you feel if you took care of animals that you knew would probably be destroyed? My aunt volunteers at and partially runs a non-profit shelter in rural Kentucky; she is the sweetest person you will ever meet, but even she’s become slightly hardened because of all the heartbreaking things she sees every day. Witnessing the terrible things people do to animals and being helpless to prevent animals from being put-down has a way of doing that to you. Next time make sure you have all the facts before you criticize someone like that.
Honestly, I’m amazed at all the good work this woman is doing, as well as with the fact that she keeps on doing it even after seeing some not-so-happy endings. That takes a really special kind of person, and would that there were more of her kind in this world.
*sighs* And I really didn’t mean to emotionally vomit like that. Sorry peeps, it’s been a long and unnecessarily cruel day. Let’s just say this video was the first thing that’s made me cry today.

I always thought I could never volunteer at a shelter because it would be too heartbreaking. But I read an article at the Louisiana SPCA’s web site (link below) and it changed my mind and I started volunteering there while I lived in New Orleans. It essentially says, “If you think you can’t do it, then you’re exactly the person who should.” Nobody will care more, and those are exactly the people these animals need.
You can do it – you’ll be surprised at how much strength you have. And once you see what an amazing impact you have on the animal’s lives, you’ll find it in you to go back again, no matter how much it hurts.
Will your heart be broken? Yep.
Will you cry? Yep.
Will you find yourself enraged at what humans can do to animals? Yep.
Is it worth it? You bet.

If you looked, then you must have seen that she was some extremely inappropriately titled videos–referring to sick kitties as “Shaved (blanks)” in the titles. Classy. And even if she works there, maybe it’s for all the wrong reasons–there’s something just cold with her title “retarded” kitten, which she defended in the comments. And her diagnosis about head flopping sometimes–details, please? Anyway, not a lot of compassion there. I called BS on her YouTube page to her face before I posted here. So she can take me to task if she wants to. And speaking of rants, you don’t know a thing about me either. Like how many kittens I’ve fostered or sick ones I’ve lost. Can’t we just enjoy an adorable kitten video for what it is, a moment of sublime cuteness? Do we really need to psychoanalyze the videographer or make wild suppositions about her based on the titles of her YouTube videos? Yeah, she seems to have a juvenile sense of humor, but if that were a crime, half of the CO commenters would be locked up.
And if the kitten had a sad fate later, that’s a shame; but every animal featured on CO has a death awaiting it (heck, so do we). It’s OK to still enjoy seeing the little guy’s moment of happiness and perfect cuteness.

Forget the videographer and the backstory. I ask everyone of you here: which of you does NOT wish to be remembered like this kitten – as someone adorably cute, who brought joy to everyone to and just wanted to be loved in return?
This kitten made us smile, and fortunately, that’s how all of us will remember it. Too bad we can’t say the same for ourselves. I’d count myself as darned lucky (and obviously, undeserving) if this is how people remember ME when I’m gone.
