Awwww, we thinks he needs a hugs too!!! we invites him to come to our bloggie and we will snuggle him lots, after a little likkin and maybe a bit of bitey time…hehehe
I have to second Carrie here; cuttlefish have amazing color switching abilities. We’re talking animated hypnotic patterns swirling over their skin. Maybe if someone give him a cuddle he’d do little heart-shapes all over…
Cuttlefish are my absolute favorite invertebrates. They are so much fun to watch, hanging out with each other in a large tank, occasionally having cuttlefish arguments after which the loser goes off and sulks in a corner…
I love little cuttles, they’re so sweet and wierd, even if they are ferocious predators.
Their colour changing ability is truly amazing, check out this video, particularly about 2:20 in when it starts pulsing its colours. They really are like aliens on Earth and this little one clearly needs a cuddle.
He might actually truly want a cuddle. I remember seeing a documentary where a cuttlefish in a tank was playing with and sucking on the zookeeper’s hand. They love attention, it was super cute to watch. Ever since then I’ve had a soft spot for the squishy little guys.
(ps: what happened to the cuteoverload.com address? :/ i dunno if its just me, but that domain went to an ad, and it took me a google search to find the blog this time.)
plus thay are very emotional guys. if any mollusk has heart, its these guys. beware though, they may rule the world one day, dont be deceived by those pouty eyes….
This proves that cephalopods are quite adorable. Cheers for posting an unorthodox cute thing here! Cephalopods are arguably smarter than more commonly cute animals like cats and dogs, and so I find them twice as endearing because of their unique looks.
Baby cephalopods are, obviously, even more endearing, of course. Their stubby baby tentacles just sort of wiggle about.
He looks like he’s just swam up to the bar and put one “arm” on it, “Gimme a cold one Billy, Oy! What a day, what a day I’ve had!”
*giant sigh, takes a sip*
“I was on a date with that cutie from down reef and a thug squid decided to pick on me. Man he made me so mad! Of course I went red on him and scared him off but, when I turned back to my girl she was staring at me like she’d seen a ghost.”
*wipes tear from eye & takes a huge gulp*
“S-she said we couldn’t see each other any more, on account of our red’s clash! Then she swam away, outta my life forever!”
*drops head on bar and sobs*
for all those hungry ones out there, they are very very boring to aet, since all they taste of is the garlich they get roasted in. since they have a life span of only a couple of years dont go turning them into sushi any sooner please. they are way too smart for that.
I’ve seen “Baby Cuttlefish” on at least one restaurant’s menu. I eat seafood, but I could never order something that sounds so cute. Now I see that it actually looks cute, too.
If you think this is cute, the Nova “Kings of Camouflage” episode about cuttlefish is a must-have. The kids and I were just hypnotized by it and waited for months with baited breath (ouch!) for the DVD to come out.
NYGirl — not exactly… dunno about Meg but we’re doing a birthday party right now. (The teens are currently downstairs doing whatever it is that teens do downstairs.)
Whatever he is, Scuttleupagus is much cuter than I ever thought a fish-type creature could be (especially as I have a phobia of fishes). He looks sort of like a little aquatic mammoth.
Cheer up, Snuffy! You’re much too cute to be so sad.
>>EEEEE! my fave animal of all time! once I learn how to take care of aquatic pets more difficult than goldfish, I’m getting one of these!
Octochan – they’re REALLY hard to take care of. You can’t have them in a regular (square) aquarium b/c they bump into the walls a lot, and they’re incredibly sensitive to water quality. If you don’t have any experience at all with maintaining a salt water tank, this should NOT be your first saltwater pet. You don’t want to set up a whole salt tank ($$$) and then get a couple of these guys ($$$! And some are endangered!) only to have them die. Or eat each other (yep, they do). It would be sad for them and for you. I don’t recommend them as pets, cute as they are.
My hubby did his grad school research on them. He got good at taking care of them, but they had special tanks and specially filtered salt water straight from the actual ocean, and still they sometimes died for no reason. Yes, and ate each other a lot.
But one glorious summer they actually managed to put a female in with the big male that he did NOT eat and kill (5 females later…) and got a hundred weeny babies no bigger than your THUMB. So cute you could die. I wanted one!! He wouldn’t gimme!!! Hee.
(oh – I mentioned them bumping into walls when they get startled as bad b/c they get something called “butt burn” and all their skin starts peeling off. ( And they can get bad infections that way. booo…)
The Cutekren will destroy the Pearl with Squee-ings and Rule 24 and you along with it!

thankies for the infos, Keight, but yesh, I know I won’t be getting any for quite a while. My plan is to keep goldfish, then tropical freshwater fish, saltwater fish, two-spot octopus, and then cuttlefish. I lurk at tonmo.com, too.
Ahn! He’s feelin’ bleen.
*sniff
So sad.

I’m pretty much in love with cephaolpods. I want to take this wittle guy home and love him forevers!
Also, I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure that’s actually a Caribbean Reef Squid. Anybody know?
Oh, so CUTE….
Why so sad….?
He needs a cuddle!

*looks at cuttlefishy*
*whips out a crusty french loaf and some dijon*
*sees cuttlefishy’s sad widdle eyelids*
sigh
*puts crusty loaf and moostard away*
So adorable!!! *cuddles*
Cuttlefish are usually about as long as your hand, they’re like mini-squids crossed with chameleons with uber color-chaing powers
OMG! Doesn’t anyone else think he/she looks like Snuffleupagus???? Too Cute!!!
Yes, Renee in Texas. Yes.
I’m not in the habit of finding sea creatures cute, but this one sure is…
Please don’t cry, Cuttlie McCuttlesons!!! I’ll cuddle you!!!
You’re right, Renee, he does sort of remind me of Snuffleupagus!
I think this bebeh is upset by the person, talking this picture. Cute cuddle can I cuddle him/or her
Awwww, we thinks he needs a hugs too!!! we invites him to come to our bloggie and we will snuggle him lots, after a little likkin and maybe a bit of bitey time…hehehe

No, that’s definitely a cuttlefish.
They actually have a very wide range as far as size goes. Some are smaller than your hand, some are longer than your arm.
And while I think the picture is adorable, that’s not his eyelid. Their pupils are just shaped that way.
Don’t be a buzzkill, Karena!
hims jus sad cuz hims gots no one to cuddle wif.
Yayayay! A mollusc on CO! You’ve made my day, Meg.
hahaha this is awesome! My four year old son, who just melted alongside me watching the howly pup just went “Awww, I want it!”
I have to second Carrie here; cuttlefish have amazing color switching abilities. We’re talking animated hypnotic patterns swirling over their skin. Maybe if someone give him a cuddle he’d do little heart-shapes all over…
He’d be like a cuddlier version of Cthulu.
Awwww…. Reminds me of my little stuffed friend, Inky.
OMG, its EEYORE, swimming!
Actually, several types of cephalopods can change their coloring, for camouflage purposes or for mating. Ah, widdle cuttlyfishie!
Cuttlefish are my absolute favorite invertebrates. They are so much fun to watch, hanging out with each other in a large tank, occasionally having cuttlefish arguments after which the loser goes off and sulks in a corner…
If it has that little ballet tutu all around the body, it’s a cuttlefish; squid don’t have tutus.
nooobody knows the trouble i’ve seen….
I’m so happy to see I cephalopod (sp?) on here. i thought I was the only one who thought they were cute.
OMG! Squids and ‘cephies in general are my favorite animals, actually! It’s awesome to see their cuteness appreciated by others! =D
Don’t bite my with your beak though!

Awwwww. He is a sad little squiddly thing indeed.

I dont’ know if anyone eats cuttlefish, I would think maybe within some island cultures that derive most of their diet from the sea.
*drapes cuttlefishy on cracker*
He does look awfully cute on there tho ^^
for all those hungry ones out there, they are very very boring to aet, since all they taste of is the garlich they get roasted in. since they have a life span of only a couple of years dont go turning them into sushi any sooner please. they are way too smart for that.

awww i never thought a fish could be so cute!
I tink Meg and Theo have been away all day at the All-You-Can-Eat Cuttlefish Cookout :/
zosterops–you can get dried cuttlefish (much in the manner of beef jerky)in Asian grocery stores, they are seasoned and delicious!
Party on dude!
*air guitar motions*
Now that I’m thinking music I could totally see this little guy at a piano in a piano bar! LOL
He’d be his own mood lighting too!
Teho, when I was a teen we made out downstairs! o.O
Um yes, thank you, TMI TMI TMI. (We checked. They weren’t.)
*draws quasi-cute stick figure*
*posts it on CO out of desperation*
*hyperventilates outta relief*
i don’t think he’s sad
i think he’s just zoned-out on the cuttlesofa watching spongebob squarepants
Whatever he is, Scuttleupagus is much cuter than I ever thought a fish-type creature could be (especially as I have a phobia of fishes). He looks sort of like a little aquatic mammoth.

Nobody knows what its like to be the bad man

**try cut-n-pasting that url into a new browser window**
Man…how I feel really bad for all that calamari I’ve eaten.
if any mollusk has heart, its these guys.
“A” heart? Hah! Three. Two just for the gills.
And no eyelids. Sorry, people.
Aw, I love cephalopods….

And now we know the origin of MR. SNUFFLEUPAGUS.
