2 Heather 07.22.07 at 7:17 am

Which one is Nemo?

3 fish eye no miko 07.22.07 at 7:18 am

“So, which one of us is Nemo…?”

4 fish eye no miko 07.22.07 at 7:20 am

1 minute! ARGH!!!

5 Bratfink 07.22.07 at 7:48 am

Wow.

6 musicchick2 07.22.07 at 7:57 am

Which one is Marlin (the Dad)? I’m thinkin’ he’s the orangey-est one right in the center, telling (bad) jokes to Nemo and his buddies.

7 Riss 07.22.07 at 8:38 am

*Giggles* I wonder what they’re doing?

8 HRH 07.22.07 at 9:12 am

better Nemo than Emo …

9 saiida 07.22.07 at 9:23 am

no mo’ looking for Nemo :) they r soo cute

10 darkshines 07.22.07 at 10:16 am

All the smaller, paler ones are ganging up on the biggest, most orange one! :D

11 zosterops 07.22.07 at 10:28 am

one SECOND fish eye, my sympathy.

Apart from that, what kind of bathtub is this? Why don’t these fish have an anemone to hide in? what are these little dragonheads doing down there? It evokes ideas of illegal pet trade for me some how. Please tell me there’s another reason for these fish not being in a proper surrounding.

12 zosterops 07.22.07 at 10:33 am

and the ganging up might be due to the biggest always being the female with an assorted (by size) group of males.

13 melissa 07.22.07 at 11:44 am

I think they are afraid, being in the big scary clean place. they want an anenome to hid in.

Clown fish are very shy by nature.

v cute tho.

14 metsakins 07.22.07 at 12:02 pm

I thougth thye were practicing their act. Next they all put their heads in and wave with their tails and then they’re going to start spelling out words…

15 Laurie C 07.22.07 at 1:18 pm

It may not be nefarious, zosterops, maybe their aquarium is being cleaned.

16 Loris 07.22.07 at 1:53 pm

I think they are playing ’sardines’.

17 Brak_Silverbone 07.22.07 at 2:17 pm

When I first saw the headline, I thought it said “CLOWN FRESH WHIRLPOOL” and I had a horrid mental image of a clown cleaning out a birdbath or something… Nooo, not clowns! Then I saw that they were clownFISH, which is way better than clowns. **shiver**

18 zosterops 07.22.07 at 2:57 pm

Brak – an instinctive feeling of repellation towards clowns? you TOO??
they make me feel very uneasy and I dont even know why.

19 Annie 07.22.07 at 3:04 pm

Brak, Hmm a bit of Coulrophobia…

whirling and swirling and spinning The fishes go round and round

20 grzechu 07.22.07 at 3:05 pm

actually, it doesn’t look cute at all :| , they look like they’re just scared in not so friendly environment. don’t even want to know water parameters, which probably are not so good in a… bathtub

21 trin 07.22.07 at 3:34 pm

I hear them GIGGLING…

I suspect this is a temporary containment while their aquarium is cleaned.

and more like an enameled pan (we can see another over in the top right corner) than a bathtub.

22 Kipling 07.22.07 at 3:46 pm

It’s practice for the synchronized swimming competition next year in Beijing.

23 jp 07.22.07 at 3:51 pm

nemo: where…where eeeeeeees we??!?!?!

other nemos: eeeeek! keep sweeeeminks

24 dory 07.22.07 at 4:22 pm

darn, i wanted to make a nemo joke. all my ideas have been taken already!

25 SeaBreeze 07.22.07 at 4:24 pm

“just keep sweeming, just keep sweeming, sweeming, sweeming, just keep sweeming.” (repeat indefinitely)

26 Shannon Johnson 07.22.07 at 4:31 pm

Hey it’s Nemo everybody, we can stop looking for him because he’s right there.

27 Anna 07.22.07 at 5:04 pm

How cute :)

28 bunny luver!!! 07.22.07 at 5:04 pm

Has anyone noticed the little fish in the middle? he’s all “ehn, let me out I have to find nemo!!”
He’s probably nemo’s dad–I forget his name, though.

29 Leslie 07.22.07 at 5:07 pm

TOO CUTE!

30 donutbill 07.22.07 at 5:10 pm

A clownfish tornado!! Run for your lives!!!!!

31 bats :[ 07.22.07 at 5:27 pm

They could really benefit from an even smaller car…

32 Rhi 07.22.07 at 5:40 pm

I want the one, not bottom right but just above it, who looks like he’s looking up trying to get a breath of air… even though that would be really bad for him :D So cute!

33 pamela 07.22.07 at 6:05 pm

I so badly want this pic to be 1680 x 1050. I would want to look at this everyday….

34 musicchick2 07.22.07 at 6:33 pm

Cute comments everyone! *giggles*

35 musicchick2 07.22.07 at 6:41 pm

Info about clownfish “cliques”: http://www.sciencefriday.com/kids/sfkc20031010-2.html Disclaimer: the very end of the article is kinda sad, but this IS nature after all

36 Chloe 07.22.07 at 6:55 pm

Is that a bathtub??

37 Kate B. 07.22.07 at 7:05 pm

Funny, these guys don’t look real to me. They look like they are made of orange glass and painted with white stripes, like a large piece of jewelry.

38 Furbabies 07.22.07 at 8:29 pm

Ring around the rosie, pockets full of posies….

39 Ivi 07.22.07 at 9:59 pm

What are those brown looking things at the bottom? Anyways, very cute! X]

40 Ant 07.22.07 at 10:09 pm

“I’m Nemo!”

41 R. Moore 07.22.07 at 11:17 pm

Cute AND pretty!

(golf clap)

42 Dale 07.23.07 at 12:20 am

¨Why don’t these fish have an anemone to hide in?

Zosterops–with friends like these, who needs anemones?

43 Theo 07.23.07 at 12:52 am

Ant — and I’m Spartacus!

44 evil_twin 07.23.07 at 1:05 am

Cute! It almost looks photoshopped because it looks so surreal…my best guess would be that these are actually… pretty polygamous clownfish….But does anyone know what kind of fish are the brown ones on the pool floor?

45 rxl 07.23.07 at 1:17 am

Loris: I didn’t think anyone else had ever heard of that game! I loved it as a kid, but my cats refused to play it with me.

46 Andrew 07.23.07 at 1:58 am

They are balling up because they were stressed. It’s actually not a bathtub, but the fish were acclimating, and I saw them all huddled together and had to take a shot. By no means is this a bathtub, or some horrible aquarium. Just a holding pan to get them used to the water.

47 Tor 07.23.07 at 2:56 am

Wow, that article about clownfish cliques was interesting. So many ways to self-organize in this world.

48 Longtail 07.23.07 at 3:18 am

Clownfish synchronized sweeming!

The brown fishies at the bottom appear to be some sort of sculpin, which are bottom feeding type fishies.

49 ka9q's wife 07.23.07 at 4:16 am

I don’t think Clownfish are polygamous. I think only the biggest Male and the lone female mate. The other just wait for their chance. I knew that from reading “How Animals Have Sex” I didn’t know about the clique thing until I read the link posted above. How sad.

56 k 07.23.07 at 1:47 pm

talk about finding nemo would thw real nemo please swam this way

57 Mags 07.23.07 at 5:08 pm

Andrew, thanks for the info- GREAT picture!!! =) I may just have to watching Finding Nemo tonight!

58 Mr. Snorgler 07.23.07 at 5:36 pm

These fish look like they’re about to die. The behavior looks abnormal, it’s not a clique. They shouldn’t be in a metal pan (seawater, if indeed that’s what they’re in, which may not be the case given how stressed they are, will react with the metal.) The other fish (hard to say) look like some sort of sculpin, I’m guessing its not tropical so the water’s probably too cold for the clownfish.

All told, one of the worst pics evah on the otherwise regularly faboo QTE. A sad day.

59 Theo 07.23.07 at 5:54 pm

You just keep on spinning your wheels on your own assumptions, “Mr. Snorgler”. This is, after all, teh internets, where everybody automatically knows everything.

60 Andrew 07.23.07 at 6:51 pm

I could see scooter dragonets being confused as sculpins. And if that white plastic pan looks metal, then I need some serious glasses. Simple acclimation, however stressful to the fish, is pertinent to their survival in an aquarium. I swear I’m not inhumane hehe.

61 Manda 07.23.07 at 9:25 pm

I love how some people automatically assume the worst about a pic they know nothing about. Sender-inner Andrew eventually explained what is going on here. It was a brief and necessary situation. Please hold off on the self-righteous ignorant negativity and let people enjoy. I’m sure Theo and Meg are good editors as well as posters of animal pics.
*swan-dive triple sow-cow off soap-box into cleaned aquarium with happier clown fishies*

62 Chels 07.24.07 at 5:28 am

ohh they’re so pretty. :) Nice picture Andrew.

63 lele 07.25.07 at 1:09 pm

hehe,a work of art

64 katie california 07.29.07 at 4:18 pm

Those fishies must love each other like a monkey on thanksgiving lol

65 nads 08.04.07 at 5:39 pm

It’s the Insane Clownfish Posse!

66 kkkkk 08.13.07 at 11:45 pm

So looks like it’s attack of the fishies. I think thats nemo in the middle.LOL!

67 Meredith 10.24.07 at 1:00 pm

those brown fish at the bottom are Sea Robins, they can be caught off the texas coast (I know because i’ve had quite a few in my fishtanks).
