Just in case anyone was thinking that I’m a bad pet owner my cats get dry cat food, the indoor cat formula. Occasionaly I give them a can of moist cat food as well. They rarely, if ever, get table scraps and they are VERY happy kittens who love me very much so nobody needs to worry about their health or well being. They are loving life.

Thanks for that link musicchick2. My cats are precious to me and I prefer to be educated about they can and can’t eat than to remain willfully ignorant. Anyone who’d think that passing along helpful information to keep cats healthy is spoiling the “fun” is a…well, nevermind.

Sarah, how is it a buzz kill to provide information about something that may be harmful to cats? I wouldn’t have mentioned it unless I saw a lot of people talking about giving their cats tomato based foods. Even if it doesn’t kill them (although cats have died from eating cherry tomatoes) it might be hard on their liver/kidneys. I don’t see what’s wrong with giving people a little information just in case they didn’t know. I love cats and I don’t want any getting sick because their owners didn’t know any better.

Given how finicky cats’ stomachs are, and how he’s shown absolutely no effect from his, oh, three drops of sauce (since he’s really eating the meat), I’m not really worried about the tomato thing. It’s not like I’m feeding it to him on purpose, either; sometimes cats climb on the counter and eat something.

And milk isn’t BAD for cats, they’re just usually lactose-intolerant. Lactose-free milk would be absolutely harmless, and even the normal stuff won’t do more than upset their stomach.

coubotand: Milk’s not good for them, either. But why in the world do you have to be such a buzzkill? I’m guessing those cats don’t show any ill effects from the occasional taste of tomato sauce, or their owners wouldn’t keep letting them eat it. You can’t believe they don’t know something as obscure as the toxicity of tomatoes to cats?
My old cat Rose used to eat potato chips whenever she got the chance. People AND cats can eat all kinds of things that aren’t strictly good for them yet survive and enjoy life.
In conclusion, this photo made me LOL at work. It’s cute, it’s funny and it’s a completely believable slice of life as shared by people and their pets, and that’s the kind of CO photo I like best of all.
