OMG I am Still LOL She /HE is adorable. Love the caption. Ett is Perfect Meg. I don’t know about the 99% being boys my mother in Law had two marmalades/gingers from the same litter. Both girls.
so like my sleepovers with my best friend as a kid. Makes me think of the following exchange.
Marcy to me as she’s getting into bed, “Turn off the light.” Me, “Why me?”
Marcy, “Because you’re comfortable.” Me, “Oh Ok.” gets up & turns off light.
Moral: The most absurd things make sense at 3 o’clock in the morning.
Cutiepatootie! My marmie and I like to talk about boys into the wee hours of the night too. All this talk about gingers made me curious – I found this on http://www.messybeast.com:
The ginger colour of cats (known as “orange” or “red” to cat breeders) is caused by the “O” gene. The O gene changes black pigment into a reddish pigment. The O gene is carried on the X chromosome. A normal male cat has XY genetic makeup; he only needs to inherit one O gene for him to be a ginger cat. A normal female is XX genetic makeup. She must inherit two O genes to be a ginger cat. If she inherits only one O gene, she will be tortoiseshell. If she inherits no O genes, she will be black.
In other words, female marmies are not as common as males, but are certainly not rare. For those who like reading about all that science stuff, there’s more here: http://www.messybeast.com/mosaicism.htm#geneforginger
It’s far too much for me to comprehend – I just want to cuddle the kitty!
OMG perfect caption for this kitty’s expression.
Maggie’s got that world weary glazed over expression and sayin’ “So been there and done that girlfriend!”
ShelleyTambo, Really a boy Calico I thought that was impossible or something like that. I have never seen a boy. are they a calico or the dilute tortie calico varitey.
Just curious.
And the 67 -70% orang thing explains the large number of big boy gingers.
annie–Yep, a boy calico, named “Cal”–aren’t we creative? This particular one was a dilute calico. They usually don’t survive birth. If they do, it’s almost certain they’re sterile, so they can’t pass on the color pattern. Still, they should be neutered because, in the words of the then-kennel operations manager, “just because they’re shootin’ blanks doesn’t mean they’re not shootin’.”
Yeah, male Calicos are pretty rare. I’ve got a female calico that is my adorable little baby. It has to do with color genetics, much like Corinne was talking about. I found a blurb on this site: http://www.fanciers.com/other-faqs/colors.html#pointed
in the FAQ section. It talks about how to get the color combination of Calicos you need two X’s, something males don’t have unless they have XXY and are sterile. Yay for biology class.
As for the picture relevant to the post, adorable!!!!!!!
Thanks, Meg, this was just what I needed…my boyfriend of 6 years and I are breaking up…I wish I had this at home.
No matter how bad my day is going, CO can always make me feel better. <3
Katie, as I was saying, when I feel like my world’s ending I go pick up one of my bebehs (feline or canine) and lay on the couch with them with a nice, funny movie.
So technically if the boy calicos survive they are sterile and is it safe to assume they are all dilute calicos. THe boys, that survive???? Do they have other problems that go with the gene mutation.
I think (but too lazy to look it up) that calico females are sterile also. I know we had one and hoped for babehs (she was GORGEOUS) but she never did. And not for lack of the guys tryin’ if you know what I mean. Seems like I did hear/read that somewhere.
Mary in all that stuff on the first info though I only got part way thru it, It suggests that some girl calicos are boy calicos with.. well they are hermaphridites. Altho I think they aren’t sure becuase of the lack of living evidence. So maybe your kitty was a she/he.
Sorry my brain keeps hearing a Seinfeld episode now.
Um, I grew up with a female calico named Penny & she had litters (all given away, she was a grand mouser) up until a year before she passed on @ the age of 15. I usta love to watch her tote the chirrens from place to place: “Nope, not here. Hmmm, not *here* either…”
Too cute! It’s like how my kitty sits and watches TV! lol
OMG, bleen? Wow…
And doesn’t it look like she might be getting her little nails painted just off to the right there?
The captioning is funnier when you know that 99% of orange cats are male
funniest caption ever – totally looks like it’s what the kitty would be saying
Inhaler Inhaler…

Awwwwww!! Best shoulder to cry on EVAR.
Michelle this clearly a gay Marmie cat.
Annie it’s not quite 99% – I’ve always heard 90% are male.
That is probably the most perfectly posed kitten shot ever. I am jealous.
Pink on ears and nose matches pink on sheet! omg!
Kitteh pinup girl (or probably boy)
Oh my gawd, darling, you know what we need? Let’s have a pitcher of mimosas.
mmmm, a PITCHER of mimosas… i like the way you think, redzilla.
eee! it’s my kitten!
she’s a girl, her name is maggie. the shot was not intentionally posed! that’s how she lays.
The caption is right on it.

Redzilla, I’ll get the carrotsticks, the dip and most importantly: The Belgian choclate!

Sorry. Teh kitteh doesn’t look like I could trust it any further than I could throw a piano.
[Well then, have I got an episode of MythBusters for you... - Ed.]

Pink jelly beans!!!!

“kittens are the most innnntadesting peoples.”

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

http://www.happylolday.com
cute! cute! cute!! that’s my bedspread, but that’s not my kitty!
“Tomorrow, we’ll go out shopping for shoes and you’ll feel SO much betterrr…”
Jen – are you refering to:
My, I’ll bet you monsters lead interesting lives!!!
Most estimates are that about 67% to 75% of orange (and even orange and white) cats are boys. But only 1 in 3000 calico/torti kitties are male.

But the little belly!! The little belly, I tell you!!
is it my imagination or did “chardonnay” read “camomile” like, two minutes ago? I guess tea time’s over and now it’s happy hour
In fact, there are’s one female orange tabby at my shelter now. We’ve had up to five at a time. Only one male calico in the past few years, though.
Sweet Buddha belly baby! I wants to blow kisses on that tummy.
OMG perfect caption for this kitty’s expression.
Maggie’s got that world weary glazed over expression and sayin’ “So been there and done that girlfriend!”
True, true Simonsmom, nothing wrong with that at all
IT did read Camomile before.
Hmmm some one is editing away T(Ed.) OR M(Ed.) or CSO(Ed.)

Annie — edits weren’t mine, this time. And you’re right about that marmie percentage.
my gosh, sooooo rule #6.
that kitty can be my confidant any day. neeee!
That’s why we love pets – they listen to all our troubles, they always take our side, and they hardly ever give annoying advice.

Play-Cat center fold shot for sure!
Nice nose stripes.
Very nice.

Chardonnay? Oh that is like so plebian and stuff. It’s like all about the zinfandels now, I’m sooo totally serious right now!
I cannot believe that is not intentionally posed ^_^. Cutest kitty lie-down EVER!
Thanks, Meg, this was just what I needed…my boyfriend of 6 years and I are breaking up…I wish I had this at home.
No matter how bad my day is going, CO can always make me feel better. <3
Hello Katie, go adopt a hello kitty from your local shelter. Kitties are most effective when applied directly.
Oops, hit enter too soon.
Katie, as I was saying, when I feel like my world’s ending I go pick up one of my bebehs (feline or canine) and lay on the couch with them with a nice, funny movie.
Oaklandcat- this is just what you need with your PNBF sitch!
This kitteh needs her own greeting card line, way better than those creepy old ladies in slippers…
Kitties are most effective when applied directly.
I couldn’t agree more. My Solly just helped me over a terrific headache
kinda like “Head On”
So technically if the boy calicos survive they are sterile and is it safe to assume they are all dilute calicos. THe boys, that survive???? Do they have other problems that go with the gene mutation.

Two words:
Invisible cellphone.
CBF — oh noes…
This is going to be another CO post that will end up recycled on ICHC, isn’t it.

Sorry my brain keeps hearing a Seinfeld episode now.
All that aside CBF I didnot even think of the invisable Cell phone until you said it.
Are you really going to send it in to LOL cats or ICHCB
I had a feeling that when I submitted her photo it’d end up on LOL cats or ICHCB… oh well, what can you do?
But geez, I am still excited to see her on my favorite website.
Wow. This calls for a Cecil B. portrait.

As always, the photo is great – but it’s the added text by Meg that makes it sublime
