if my job were anything like this, I would pay THEM to do it. :) Although we did just get bouncy ball chairs so we can do bouncy ball races across the office now…

6 Jo 06.13.07 at 4:24 pm

Errr . . . is it just me or is there a SQUISHED MOUSE UNDER THE WHEEL?!?!?!

7 annie 06.13.07 at 4:24 pm

mleiv. I want a bouncy ball chair. I wanta play.

8 annie 06.13.07 at 4:28 pm

Jo well it is a rat race there has to be a down trodden employee in there somewhere.
Actually I can’t tell cause I am at work (Bad monitor). Could just be dirt??? Theo??

9 brinnann 06.13.07 at 4:28 pm

OMG, that does look like another mouse squished under the wheel! Is there any way that that’s not real? His eyes are open, but he’s not blinking or moving.

10 60 in 3 06.13.07 at 4:30 pm

These mice need some team building exercises! Or maybe a better manager.

11 Chris B. 06.13.07 at 4:33 pm

Unless that mouse is practicing to be a rug, I think it is deceased.

12 Megan S. 06.13.07 at 4:40 pm

I could be wrong, but I think that’s just a clear patch with two chunks of cedar chips where the eyes would be. It’s like finding the Virgin Mary in your toast: Just cause you see it doesn’t mean that’s what’s actually there. :D

13 Amanda 06.13.07 at 4:40 pm

Oh MAN! Why did Jo hafta point out the possible tragedy under the wheel – toally ruined the fun for me. Now I can only stare at the bottom with horror and dread…:-(

14 maymee 06.13.07 at 4:43 pm

Do you think the ratties plan and practice this? And if so, what else are they planning?

*is a little worried*

15 Daja 06.13.07 at 4:51 pm

OMG there IS a mouse doing the carpet thing under there.. :S

16 Laurie C 06.13.07 at 4:54 pm

I would like to see these in gyms, for people, instead of all those step machines and treadmills.

17 jess e. 06.13.07 at 5:01 pm

I agree that it looks like a rat face under the wheel, but who can explain why the body is flat as a pancake? Do you really think someone dropped an encyclopedia on a rat and then put him back on the cage? come on people.

18 brinnann 06.13.07 at 5:11 pm

My first thought was that looks like a picture on the bottom of the cage. But why would someone put a picture there? I’m confudled.

19 Dani 06.13.07 at 5:14 pm

First of all, those wheels are unsafe. They should not be used anymore, only places like Petco use things like that. Petco takes horrible care of their animals. Not cute. Not funny. Secondly, what the heak is that under the wheel?!? OMG!?!

20 Bekki 06.13.07 at 5:24 pm

It’s not a squished mouse. If you watch a few seconds in to the video, you’ll notice that the other two mice are over there, too (the ones not on the wheel), and one of them run right across the end. Mice won’t trample across the tops of one of their fallen fellows unless there’s no choice. It looks like a cleared space in the cage where a few pieces of bedding/chips just happened to fall.

Above and beyond, I’ve seen some dead mice – they turn very gray, in a hurry. This is the same cream color as the bottoms of the cages that petstores like to use.

So, to sum it all up? No worries, not a deadling, just a clearing! (Prolly someone was resting down there earlier where it was cool and protected).

21 Courtney 06.13.07 at 5:27 pm

I watched it again after reading the comments and it DOES look like a pancake mouse under the wheel! But at some point the ‘eyes’ move and the illusion is gone.

This is how work feels for me today. Somebody else is in my wheel with me making me go backwards!

22 Bon 06.13.07 at 5:32 pm

OK you guys…. who turned on the webcam duing the meeting I just left???? We’re all trying to get to the same place, but can’t decide on the approach! Whaaaaaaaa— why am I upside down???? who’s in charge of this project anyway!

23 Loris 06.13.07 at 5:45 pm

E-nuff is e-nuff.

I have never nuffed, but really.

I’m nuffing now.

24 pinkwerewolff 06.13.07 at 6:00 pm

what? “those wheels are unsafe”? they’re rats. not kids. the rats obviously LIKE being unsafe because they’re on the thing.
I happen to have a friend that works at a petco. they are treated fine. get a life, dani.
*gets off soapbox*

i find this clip a bit hypnotizing.

27 R. Moore 06.13.07 at 7:09 pm

They look like they should be in Cirque du Soliel.

And they look tiny for rats. I’m pretty sure they’re mice.

Though those wheels can be hazardous. Little paws can get stuck, and the bars can pinch. But I wouldn’t get all in a huff about it. I just tell people there are better wheels and encourage them not to buy that type.

28 mlle_x 06.13.07 at 7:12 pm

The older girl’s commentary is priceless from a film making point of view. I bet she delivers everything on time and under budget! I think we should hire her… she knows what’s important – CUTENESS!

29 Aoife 06.13.07 at 7:13 pm

The brown and white one has the right idea – let everyone else do the hard work while you just ride along and have fun!

30 amarie 06.13.07 at 7:28 pm

I just watched this in full screen mode from YouTube, and no, that is definitely not a dead rodent under the wheel… I was worried for a while, though!

I wish they put human-sized wheels in playgrounds. I would totally go play on it!

31 Chris B. 06.13.07 at 7:58 pm

It could be a toy under there. My rats have a sock that they play with and at a quick glance it looks like one of them. My chinchilla has a wheel like that. I got him a solid one but he would not have anything to do with it. He is probably an accident waiting to happen but he is happy.

32 Spryte808 06.13.07 at 9:33 pm

The mouse in the corner is all climbing the walls in a desperate attempt to get out of his cubicle!

33 erin 06.14.07 at 12:51 am

those are mice, not rats.

the mice at work do that all day.

34 donutbill 06.14.07 at 1:48 am

Is there anything cuter than spinning rats?

(It’s a rhetorical question; Of COURSE there isn’t!)

35 Kar 06.14.07 at 2:00 am

I have to admit that I can’t keep my eyes off that one under the wheel too.

Someone poke a stick at it or something!

36 Shadyman 06.14.07 at 2:29 am

OMG the MEECES PEECES!!!

37 Adie 06.14.07 at 4:43 am

Mice, not rats. :)

Also: not a “flat mouse” under the wheel. Those wheels always tend to kick up the sawdust that’s underneath them, revealing the plastic cage base underneath.

38 Jesse 06.14.07 at 6:30 am

Not sure if anyone remembers, but there is a human-sized wheel like this in the opening of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie.

I second the idea of a running wheel instead of a treadmill. So much more fun.

39 kk3 06.14.07 at 10:50 am

These are mice everyone – not rats!! Also, mice can flatten themselves out – like a pancake. I had mice when I was young….loved them!

40 Kyoki 06.14.07 at 10:23 pm

I don’t know which is cuter, the ratties or the little kids talking!

41 Tor 06.15.07 at 1:37 am

I love they don’t know about the sound till the end…woooooo!

42 Brooke 06.23.07 at 2:00 pm

Ok, i just saw all these comments about the squished mouse and i want to assure everyone there is NOT a dead mouse under that wheel. I went back and watched the video on my camera, and its just a place where the floor of the cage is bare. the “ear” and “eyes” are just food particles. haha
