Beyond redonk

Once again, the Japanese kick our ‘tocks in the cute and ridiculous depahtment.

LOL, Señor SparkyPannnts!

  1. This is the best show on Earth.

  2. yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  3. Courtney says:

I would SO watch an Americanized version of this show…. You hear that ABC?!?

  4. WHY doesn’t the U.S. have a version of this show?

  5. …whut?

  6. WTF

  8. “NOT CLEAR”?!

This isn’t one of those Scientology initiation rituals, is it?

  9. Oh yeah? Well, we’ve got Wheel of Fortune over here! Yeah, take THAT, Japan! (*cries*)

  10. Fuzzybutt says:

  11. Hilarious. I too, would watch this, while feeling slightly disgusted at myself.

  12. sundriedbagel says:

    um… wow. [speechless]

  13. Hahahaaaaahahaa! crazy funny

  14. That? Is some funny stuff. 😀

  15. *dumbstruck* ………………………………………………………
……. i would SO do that!

  16. it’s only funny until someone gets hurt.

    then its hilarious!

  17. oh, and Courtney? seems more like something fox would do. put it right after the simpsons.

  18. moggyfan says:

    Not. Cute.

  19. jazmella says:

    ROFL!! Best gameshow ever!

    I can’t stop laughing!

  20. NO moggyfan. Its redonkulus.

  21. gee, the koreans have the exact same game show (argh!)

  22. Sweet Lady says:

I think my cat even laughed when he saw this one!

  23. chicken or egg

  24. sadie_asher says:

    Not cute. Just stupid.

  25. I wouldn’t call it stupid, but I agree with Moggy and Sadie that it’s a very unlikely candidate for “cute.”

  26. I could watch that all day.

  27. Katy with a Capital K says:

Oh, I get it. Meg’s participating in Blog Like It’s the End of the World Day, too!

    (Google it)

  28. SlaveToThreeFelines says:

Ever see MXC on Spike? More of this fun stuff with “commentary” in Eng”r”ish. No insult intended. 🙂

  29. *giggling*

I think Asian guys are cute, so there =D

Nice junk-grab there at the very end ..

  30. I thought it was cute because of the little bespectacled dude’s eager expression as he dived through the hole, and the giant dude’s sheepishness when he broke the… the… thing. He is Japanese Fezzik.

  31. WHAT. THE. EFF.

Dear god that would be so satisfying to make it through!

  32. bunnyslave says:

words fail me. I can’t believe I watched the whole thing *groaning sound*

  33. saffron says:

Oh my goodness. I’d never thought I’d see Eiji Wentz on (his musical partner Kokei Teppei on the other hand….)

Eiji is the first contestant, btw.

  34. confused says:

I don’t understand what this has to do with cute animals or animals at all. It’s just very stupid and annoying. I can’t believe I wasted my time watching it.

  35. confused: Cute humans are allowed too! It’s a shame you didn’t enjoy it, but yeah, YOU wasted your time watching it, no-one forced you. Once you realised you weren’t feelin’ it, you could easily have stopped.

  36. Shannon says:

Glad to see I am not the only one who thinks this looks like fun! ‘Cept not in the silly space suit….

Anybody else watch Ninja Warrior?? It is AWESOME!! (course I love the ORIGINAL Iron Chef too, sniff. Misses it.)

  37. Shannon says:

Just noticed the Japanese Fezzik comment..hee hee.

  38. lurkingsmirk says:

Oh god I giggled so hard my tummy hurt.

  39. I kept waiting for the cute…but it did make me laugh a little 🙂 I agree, I wouldn’t classify this video as cute, though one of the guys was.

  40. ummm… What is cute about this?

Cute Overload: I am disappointed in the failure to comply to any rules of cuteness and the lack of cute animals or even products.

    Le sigh.

  41. “At Cute Overload™, we scour the Web for only the finest in Cute Imagery. Imagery that is Worth Your Internet Browsing Time.”

    Except not this time.

  42. acelightning says:

Yeah, where are the *animals*? I didn’t see a single kitten or bunny or otter – not even a frog. Just people making fools of themselves.

  43. Uhm… not cute.

But funny as all get out!!!

  44. Agreed, very similar to “Most Extreme Elimination Challenge,” played on SpikeTV. At the end of each episode they do the “10 most painful eliminations of the day.”

  45. Suda Nim says:

Think of it as a palate cleanser. A sort of mental sherbet. A sort of strange, gallivanting, silver-pantsed…..HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAAAA *snork!*

  46. girlnextdoortn says:

That was genuinely hilarious. Not cute, but definitely worth my browsing time.

    The “218” was awesome.

  47. Thank goodness for YouTube. This is the sort of thing I used to see on TV in Japan, and when I tried to explain to people back in the states, they never believed me.

    I actually whimpered with laughter.

Oh and “not cute” folks, give it a rest, would you? Is Meg a robot? Must she toe the line and comply with your narrow cute parameters all the time?

  48. People please read! No where did it say that the video was suppose to be cute. It says its “Beyond redonk” meaning beyond ridiculous….But I thought it was kind of funny.

  49. R. Moore says:

As an ESL tutor who works with a lot of foreign students from Asia, I can totally believe that this show is real. It is right up their alley in absurd and colorful. It’s like dry British humour, you just have to be prepared for it.

And the girl’s red outfit was adorable 😛

  50. redbone says:

That was hilarious! If we had game shows like that here in the US, it’d completely kill on sweeps week. XD

  51. This makes me want to play tetris.

  52. Shannon says:

That’s the one I couldnt think of – Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. No offense to whoever said it – but I cant only watch about 5 mins of that one. It’s the gawd awful English voice overs that grate my eardrums. At least on Ninja Warrior it’s still in Japanese and subtitled in English…

  53. Uh…okay. I can go with ridiculous.

  54. sundriedbagel says:

watching it again, it is pretty hilarious how ridiculous this game show is. I mean, do they REALLY expect people to be able to fit through those cookie-cutter shapes? hahahahahaha…. my oh my.

  55. I laughed so hard I almost wet myself! I have now inundated all my friends email boxes with this.

  56. Vanessa says:

Oh my god! XD I watch the Korean show they have this game on every weekend, I didn’t think Japan would do it too! Choi Hong Man (the giantly tall Korean F1 Fighter) is hillarious~
Though on the Korean show ‘Jiwhaza’, they have slightly more realistic shapes… XD and no silver cat suits. If only American Celebs would be so willing to make complete fools of them selves on national television (more than they already do)…

  57. Okay,
    1. I would SO watch this show everyday
    2. I would SO participate in this show, especially in a spacesuit.

Sometimes people forget it’s okay to be silly.

  58. eikoleigh says:

This is NOT cute….but it was HELLA funny….esp the 3-person teams during the last 45 seconds.

OMG, that was SO funny. I think I cried….

  59. oaklandcat says:

The way they all laugh, EVERY TIME… yes, it is cute. So there.

  60. oaklandcat says:

OMG new background! It must be summer! Hurray!

  61. I love gameshows where nobody gets hurt and everyone has fun, so I love this! ^_^

  62. Michelle says:

Yay for gameshows that are lighthearted and silly.

  63. lighten up! says:

LoL i can’t believe some people can’t find any trace of humor in this! i could barely contain my laughter! =D come on, one post that’s “not cute” and some people get too uptight for their own good! lighten up!!!! lol

  64. I have to say that the Japanese are definitely my new favorites for weird-as-heck television. This is even better than Sabado Gigante, and I used to watch that show all the time.

And to anyone who complains: Just treat this like a pic of an animal you don’t actually find cute, and ignore it. I know I’m not always in the mood for say, baby parrots, but I don’t complain when they’re posted.

  65. I can’t believe I watched the whole thing. But, gosh, I’d love to have a go at that – much more fun than slogging away at the gym.

  66. It’s actually some sort of “look, the Koreans do really wacky shows”-Show on Japanese TV.
Totally loved the Fezzik comment 🙂 Even now, as I’m getting old, the Princess Bride is still my favourite book.

  67. omg! Hong Man on CU! totally deserving, I say! 😀

  69. I’m confused…about the people who compain about the lack of animals. Is cuteoverload supposed to be only animals? I just thought it was for anything cute?? The expressions on the contestants faces were beyond cute.

  70. shite, that’s what it is. shite

  71. omg that is hilarious!
    I love laughing…
how can you not laugh at that???
they were loving it, and being silly, and having fun…
yes, life is good, in any language.

  72. Whine, whine.. Stop being such killjoys people.

  73. This is not cute.

  74. Heaven forbid Meg post a non-animal. I don’t think this is called animal overload? The girl in the video was the cutest girl thing I have ever seen. The Japanese don’t have to do anything to be cute they are intrinsically-Check out this car they sell:

  75. What I like most about this vid is the mental image of Meg watching it over and over and laughing her pants off, knowing that if she posts it, some will raise a stink and others will back anything she puts on here. That crazy Meg–she’s my kind of warped gal…

  76. mojojojo says:

Hory Clap! Japanese game shows rule! “Not Clear”…that pretty much says it all about this one…

  77. OMG That was so funny my face is hurting!

  78. quidamling says:

::deep breath to suppress giggles at the office::

come on, the little dude that pastes himself to the floor on the 218 round! that was uber-cute! i’d sooooo watch this show!

  79. I agree with those who say that this IS cute. It’s just not the same kind of cute as a baby otter.

Perhaps we need a new rule of cuteness. If it’s Japanese, it’s cute. Period.

  80. luvinmalssomuch says:

    Absolutely hysterical as always.

  81. could not watch the whole thing.
    dont like it much.
    not cute.
I’m sure the next post will make up for this little “blip” 🙂

  82. I love it!!!!

This site is one of the best parts of my day.

If only American game shows were this fun, I’d be more inclined to watch tv.

  83. MaggieBelle says:

It looks like they’re falling into a giant vat of pee.

  84. MaggieBelle says:

Shannon: You’re missing the point of MXC. The voice overs are SUPPOSED to be awful and it’s supposed to be cheesy and silly. That’s the whole reason for the show, hence it’s hilariousness. That being said, I can only watch a couple shows at a time before I’m all “Ok, enough”.

  85. Right you are, Maggiebelle! 🙂

  86. OMG i haven’t laughed so hard in ages. these people are having way too much fun! what a blast.

i wonder if the japanese are less self-conscious than us americans. wathcing this show, it certainly seems that way.

  87. That. was. amazing.

That surpassed any turtle on a finger or kitty in a window picture that has been posted. YAY!

I so want to play. In the play area.

  88. I love how it’s posted in “Cute or Sad?.” Too funny. And I would TOTALLY watch this show if it came on in the US.

  89. Sad.
    Not cute.

  90. I don’t have the sense god gave a goat, or I’m already addicted. I watched this last night and laughed until I was sobbing helplessly. So what do I do this morning? Come over to CO and watch it again, at work. Now the receptionist thinks I’m a loon because I was in my office trying to muffle tears of laughter: Mmmmmhmmmmhmmmaaaaahmmmm.

  91. Otamajakushi says:

The ‘not clear’ thing was so funny. It’s hard to translate Japanese to English directly, and you get all sorts of odd English there. I have some stationary I bought there that says, “I another newly born dream.” Sounds like an lolcat caption.
    Thanks for the laughs!

  92. tracyflick says:

i love how the board breaks so awkwardly hahaha. i could totally see this on the episode of the office if he traveled to japan or something.

  93. the “japanese fezzik” is actually a korean fezzik (doesn’t talk in rhymes though) named hong man choi i believe. he’s almost 7’2″ and 350 pounds. he’s also a k-1 kick boxer.

i’ve noticed on all sites there’s always the complainers. if CO gets way too many of these non traditional “cute” entries, i understand the complaints but these are pretty rare so imo people should just suck it up instead of whining. though it’s not as bad as some other websites i read where people try to threaten leaving if things are posted that they don’t “approve” of. 😦

  94. Do the people complaining not realize that is someone’s BLOG… not a corporate website that is designed with one purpose and has a mission statement to please everyone?

Lighten up! No where on this site does it say that every post must be animal related.

Now, watch the funny clip and enjoy your day! =3

  95. Theresa says:

Oh noes! I see an outbreak of LOLcats with a “NOT CLEAR” caption.

  96. LOL!

I agree, it’s more silly than cute. But silly is good! I laughed so hard I almost choked on my bagel! What a great way to start the day! Thanks Meg! 🙂

  97. Don’t tell all the cutie kitties, puppies, and octupi, but this was my favorite post EVAH!!!!!!!!!!

  98. Alice Shortcake says:

OMG – those costumes! Was anyone else reminded of the “sperm episode” in Woody Allen’s “Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask”? The only thing missing is tails, but I suppose they would have been to awkward to manouvre through the hole…

  99. Oh, please, Theresa, from your mouth to the magic fingers of LOLcat-makers. That would be excellent.

  100. This video totally made my morning!! I laughed so hard I cried. Haven’t had that kind of laughter in a long time. Thanks Meg=)

  101. I love how shows from Asia feature celebs and idols in the most uber redonkulus situations. made me chuckle 😀 Thanks for starting my morning out right, Meg <3

  102. leannrose says:

This was great! Foreign game shows are always so much more fun than American shows; it’s as if we can’t laugh at ourselves. I would totally go on that show and make an idiot of myself–it looks like so much fun!

  103. Funny? Yes, hilarious! But not cute.

  104. just for Theresa.. fulfilling LOLcat prophecy of a new surge of “NOT CLEAR” cat-ptions.

  105. Christopher Duvall says:

I wouldn’t say it’s cute, but it’s definitely redonk enough to be “worth your internet browsing time.” And one win out of like 15 tries? Those dudes need some remedial yoga.

  106. Barbara says:

Not cute. But weird! I’d like a site.

  107. Wow…. I feel mildly disappointed….

  108. very silly … and was anyone else skeeved out by the lovely urine-colored water tank?

  109. Brammimonde says:

    Totally not cute.

There are sites for this sort of madcap japanese weirdness.

    I can visit them later.

    Right now I want cute.

  110. Michelle says:

    That was freakin’ awesome.

  111. easilyamused says:

I LOVE IT! HAHAHAHA! why won’t the US do a show like that? much better than those “reality” shows! thanks meg!

  112. SayYesh says:

Stoopit. Silly. Hit your little childhood friend in the arm kind of silly stoopit. Something like that. I delayed watching it ’cause I already had the feeling there was not going to be anything cute about it. Not funny either, but that’s saying something about my sense of humor.

But what IS cute, is thinking of Meg, with a twinkle in her eye, sitting back with her popcorn, or is it pudding? (I can’t keep up with you guys), just waitin’ for the commentroversy to begin. Well, we were due for some, don’t you think? Meg, you STILL ROCK !

  113. lauowolf says:

Yes, Teresa, NOT CLEAR is obviously invented for the athletic attempts of my goofier cat.
A concept whose label has arrived.

And the cut-out shapes are completely cute.

  114. I just watched it again-it was cute this time too. The Dood with the glasses who looks like Where’s japanese Waldo? He kills me.

  115. mofo — Or it could be a really bizarre and highly disturbing example of parallel evolution in action. 😛

  116. Cat-astrophe says:

Iz Meg’s blog, therefore iz Meg’s choice!

Personally, I think it’s very funny – I wish we could see some of these shows here once in a while. Just like foreign TV commercials are so much funnier than ours.

  117. I can see this video ushering in a new Rule of Cute. If you try to force your body through or into something much smaller than you, its cute.

Come on, cats and dogs in tiny beds and boxes can’t be wrong. The big guy is just a human version.

  118. How funny. I saw this concept just a little while ago on a Korean TV show.

  119. This was as terrible as the ending of Sopranos! Please keep with the animal theme!

  120. to all the Nuffers:
No, this isn’t cute. I can agree with you on that point. But, it IS funny as all get out and for that, I’m glad it was posted.

  121. Michii, I literally laughed out loud! 😀

Hilarious video, even more hilarious kitty photo caption.

  122. michii, LOL Not Clear is right.

  123. The best part was how much they were enjoying it. And that I was glued to the screen even though you get the idea pretty quick. Hee!

  124. tokyoite says:

Eiji should be classified under cute!

  125. Please tell me what this has to do with Cute? Totally ruined my beautiful start of day.

  126. I wouldn’t call this cute so much as I would call it AWESOME.

  127. Jennofur says:

OMG! Playing the new Mario Party 8 tonight on the Wii after watching this video today. There is a dueling minigame that is JUST like this gameshow but you are in an airplane!!!!

  128. the first guy was REALLY cute! lol, and the guy with the glasses had the most awkwardly adorable smile..hahhaa

  129. The video was hilarious, and the way the Japanese girl nods is the cutest thing *ever*!

  130. Ccat- Don’t you know? peeps here hate people. Especially babies. Like these:

  131. nope. not cute at all. I think this vid is definately lost and on the wrong blog.

  132. haha didn’t know they had this in japan also. There’s a show in korea, forgot the name, does the same thing with celebs. The huge guy is actually a korean wrestler, he’s just popular in japan since he does that, what’s it called, K1 tournament?

  133. Man, that was adorable, especially the Korean Fezzik’s expression. “Yes, I know I broke it. It happens all the time.” One wonders if everything looks tiny and cute to him.
You know what would be even better though? If we made our celebrities do that. “Okay Paris, into the hole! Mel Gibson, jump for that baseball like you mean it!” It’s not hard to see celebrities looking stupid in America, but I’d kind of like to see them look stupid with intent.

  134. Favorite. Post. EVER!

I have not laughed that much in a long time. Beyond redonk is right. And super cute too, in my opinion. Michii, that was the icing on the cake. Hahahahaha!

  135. Um, can anyone tell me how I can get on that show? That looks like SO much fun. Do they allow American girls on that show? I have to be on it. HAVE to.

  136. That is so cool. But i didn’t get what they were saying after a couple of tries of the people i pretty much got it. I really want to be on that . It’s hot!game/tv show

  137. Completely cute. Totally funny.

I can hear all their Moms saying, “You could poke your eye out with that!”

  138. i could watch this forever.

  139. guineapiggin9 says:

    looks…painful…LOL LOL LOL LMAO

  140. Retarded. This crap should not be on this site.
Fans of Japanese game shows………..get your udonsushi……..out of this site.

  141. Note to “A” — I feel the same way.
    About your comment.
    And yet, here *you* are.

  142. Margaret says:

holy cow, soooo funny!! thanks C.O.!! I had to keep down my snorts of laughter as my roomie is asleep!

And as my friends and I like to say, beyond redonkulous = beyonkulous, or preferably simplified, just beyonk.

Thanks for all the great pictures/movies/rules of cuteness/etc. They never fail to make my day!
