Who ever heard of an attack turtle!!! Oh poor kitty he just wants to lay in the sun.

2 Theo 05.11.07 at 5:31 pm

(why doesn’t kitty just FLIP the b@$#@rd?)

3 Barking 05.11.07 at 5:32 pm

Boy that is an aggressive tortoise. And they do bite!

4 Robbie 05.11.07 at 5:32 pm

I ran into McTortisons at a club years ago. He kept hitting on me; wouldn’t leave me alone; used a bunch of cheesy pickup lines that fell flat; followed me all over the *&%$# place until I finally left.

Really, though, that is one speedy, determined turtle! He’s succeeded at a task where the rest of us have failed: herding cats.

5 zhanae 05.11.07 at 5:32 pm

“Quit biting my tail.”

“Seriously, dude, quit biting me. I’m just trying to enjoy some sun here.”

6 Metz 05.11.07 at 5:33 pm

Yeikes! Oh my aieee!
Yowsa etc….
*ROFLMAO*

7 pyrit 05.11.07 at 5:36 pm

The tortoise and the hair.

8 frankie 05.11.07 at 5:37 pm

that was so funny!! that was one persistent turtle!!

9 DKN 05.11.07 at 5:37 pm

This gives a whole new meaning to Tortoise and the *Hair*.

LOL! I’ve never seen a turtle move that fast. He means business.

10 Emily 05.11.07 at 5:38 pm

How convenient that tortoises resemble old men…

“Damn kids…stay the hell off my lawn!”

11 DKN 05.11.07 at 5:38 pm

Oh pyrit you beat me to it!

12 Hannah 05.11.07 at 5:40 pm

Attack turtle! Fluff-seeking missile! Bruce Tortoise in Bite Hard!

13 greenighs 05.11.07 at 5:40 pm

That last cat is all like, why are that nubbin-infested rock following mes???!1!

14 BeeCee 05.11.07 at 5:41 pm

oh, i think mr. kitty is having fun with the turtle. he’s playing all kitten-like wid ‘em.

that turtle is my hero. go-oo-ooo!1 eeeeehn!

15 muffy 05.11.07 at 5:41 pm

Pffft, the Tortoise didn’t win because of persistence. The Tortoise won ’cause he beat up the Hare! Now we know.

16 webbie Bud 05.11.07 at 5:43 pm

Best shot EVAR (with 1:14 left on the vid) is the Jaws-like impending-doom approach of the tortie, straight toward the camera, mouth open, teeth bared. Hi-larious!

17 Mook 05.11.07 at 5:45 pm

Kitty: Look at the violence inherent in the system!…Help! Help! I’m being repressed!

Tortie: I shall taunt you a second time!!

18 Catman Dude =^-.-^= 05.11.07 at 5:45 pm

I wonder if this turtle bites as hard as a snapping turtle?

19 Mook 05.11.07 at 5:45 pm

21 Sven 05.11.07 at 5:46 pm

“OMG I can’t believe this video would be posted the cat is obviously hurting the turtle FOR SHAME!”

Sorry, just preparing myself for the Cutetroversy.

Or is it COntroversy?

War the turtle.

22 Leslie 05.11.07 at 5:47 pm

Good one, Mook.

23 Mook 05.11.07 at 5:47 pm

Oops…sorry about that chief…

24 firefinch 05.11.07 at 5:49 pm

Reminds me of the rabbit vs. snake video from a while back.

25 Suzy's Mom 05.11.07 at 5:50 pm

The tortoise reminded me of a horror movie monster. They move slow, but always seem to catch up to the intended victim. The orange kitty was the ditzy girl in the movie who doesn’t know better. Notice how she disappeared and a new victim appeared. We are left wondering what’s gonna happen to the unsuspecting white kitty. I smell a sequel.

31 Golden 05.11.07 at 5:57 pm

I love how the turtle just plows full steam ahead and gets a face full of tail fluff every time.

32 pyrit 05.11.07 at 6:00 pm

Oh it’s the one same cat in the vid. It’s a before and after thing. Ha!

33 Laurie C 05.11.07 at 6:04 pm

“My yard. Mine.”

34 Tarah 05.11.07 at 6:05 pm

When kitty tries to fight back, the tortie says “I shall bite your tongue! Stay away!”

35 Pheas 05.11.07 at 6:05 pm

LOL, pyrit!

36 chun 05.11.07 at 6:07 pm

it’s funny how the traffic noise in the background kinda matches the turtur vrooming towards invading fluffs ;P

37 Judy B 05.11.07 at 6:08 pm

Just look at that little guy go!

38 Martha in Washington 05.11.07 at 6:09 pm

I was going to feel sorry for McTortisons at the beginning when the cat flipped him but then…Wow, what a persistent little sh*t. I think he’s been drinking Red Bull or something to move that fast. I think the poor kittie should come live with me. We are a turtle-free zone here.

39 bongobunny 05.11.07 at 6:10 pm

I love this! There are so few reptiles on here. I love his/her open mouth, all “aaaahhh!”S/he is definitely the fastest tortoise I have EVER seen! BTW, the cat is most likely NOT hurting her/him…not only is the tortoise armored, but even the tough skin on his/her head would require a much more serious bite to get through.

40 Sven 05.11.07 at 6:14 pm

I know that, bongobunny. My post was made in sarcasm. ;)

41 Suzanne 05.11.07 at 6:17 pm

That turtle is mad as hell and he’s not gonna take it anymore!

42 TamTam 05.11.07 at 6:22 pm

heeheehee…..this is so hilarious!!!!!! i’m seriously crying over here from the hilarity! This turtle really has it out for cats, not only fluffy ones, but ALL species. I WANT!

43 moi 05.11.07 at 6:28 pm

bite ‘em in the head kitty! wow what a meanie tortoise.

44 mm 05.11.07 at 6:28 pm

Hee hee! Mr. Tortoise is definitely an old man saying, “Git off my lawn! OFF! Now!!”

45 onionpencil musashi 05.11.07 at 6:36 pm

guess he’s terri-tortoise-ial? prolly hormonal. i confess some worry over bites but looks like kitties were playing and tortie’s hisses very effectively made them stop anything that might actually hurt. glad the cats seemed somewhat amused. mr t sure didn’t seem to be, but he prolly needed the exercise anyway XD

46 cutebabyfix.com 05.11.07 at 6:36 pm

Ah Pyrit, you beat me to the punch- I was all like why is everyone talking about two cats? I only see the same one, the toitle scared the hair right off him.

Brutha, ken you see the eagle?
Good eatin’, them.

47 cutebabyfix.com 05.11.07 at 6:38 pm

lol onion pencil!

Mr. T: I pity de fool who gits on my lawn…

48 Shannon Johnson 05.11.07 at 6:42 pm

That was so funny! I wouldn’t believe that a turtle would move that fast! Who would have thought?

49 VitaminJ 05.11.07 at 6:51 pm

Hilarious. Is the kitty showing submission when she lies down and exposes her belly? Poor thing – pleading for mercy … but there’s no stopping [cue ominous music] the Tortoise of Tenacity!

50 liz 05.11.07 at 6:59 pm

that is one dang mean turtle. poor kitty!
liz

51 lee 05.11.07 at 7:09 pm

Poor kitties!
Can’t they just lie in the sun? That is one grumpy turtle. His slow (fast?)open-mouthed progress is funny but he needs to relax!

52 RevWaldo 05.11.07 at 7:16 pm

Get out tha way
Get out tha way
Get out tha way
Move kit!
- Cecil ‘Ludarics’ Turtle

53 Jessica 05.11.07 at 7:17 pm

Get the turtle AWAY from that kitty! The kitty just wants to relax & sun-bathe. I hate reptiles!!! Yuck!!!!!!!!! That turtle could have bit that cat.

54 Snorglit 05.11.07 at 7:40 pm

For a while there, I thought the cat was tewtally going to chizzomp the head off Senor McTortisons. Whew. Relief.

55 cavalaxis 05.11.07 at 7:40 pm

TURTLE: I shall pursue you to the ends of the earth! I mean the ends of the yard!

CAT: Dude, what *is* your problem!

TURTLE: You killed my father! Prepare to die!

CAT: Didn’t your mother ever tell you not to eat anything bigger than your head!

TURTLE: FOR THE HORDE!

56 mleiv 05.11.07 at 7:43 pm

Cutest Turtle evvvvvvvvvvvver!

I love how the kitty gnaws on the turtle’s head, all playful, and then bounces away, begging for more attacks. Just like my kitties when their being chased by the nefarious Feather On A Stick. And the tail! How did a tail get so fluffy? I swear it’s bigger than the cat itself.

57 ShelleyTambo 05.11.07 at 7:54 pm

Kitty, it’s a good bet that if you twitch the tail, someone will come along to chomp it–a lesson being learned a little too slowly by my cat in re my foster kittens.

58 Annabel 05.11.07 at 7:57 pm

I must soft croche heeem!!
I must snuffle the fur!
I am a fearless turtle warrior, not even a cat biting my head will disuade me!

59 Emilia 05.11.07 at 7:57 pm

i agree mleiv, his buttfluff was bigger than his entire body. Methinks senor Tortlet was attempting to be useful and remove said fuzzstick before it became a problem.

“ehn ehn, just lemme get a good grip ‘ere, we’ll ‘ave this bugger off in no time…oof! let go of me head!”

60 mlle_x 05.11.07 at 7:58 pm

man, that little dude can MOVE!

Go Speed Tortie
Go Speed Tortie
Go Speed Tortie, GOOOOOOOO!

61 pny 05.11.07 at 7:59 pm

I wonder why the cats didn’t try to hurt the turtle…they played with him instead. Seems odd, huh?

62 U of Maryland grad 05.11.07 at 8:03 pm

FEAR THE TURTLE!!! (sorry, had to say it)

63 tesstricks 05.11.07 at 8:04 pm

ROFL, awesome video.

64 Lucy 05.11.07 at 8:09 pm

We don’t need to worry about kitty-on-turtle violence; in one shot you can see McTortisons tuck his head into his shell when Fluffy bites. Smart little dude.

65 pyrit 05.11.07 at 8:11 pm

Tortoise: “This is like…, like herding cats!”

66 pistache268 05.11.07 at 8:16 pm

Lol @ the tortoise’s angry face

67 Pheas 05.11.07 at 8:16 pm

The traffic sounds tewtally make it sound as if Mr. Sheldrake is an unstoppable robot tank.

Is that really him hissing?

68 oaklandcat 05.11.07 at 8:17 pm

I have never seen a turtle move that fast! Give it up, Mr. Grumpy Reptile. Persistence is futile.

69 Melissa 05.11.07 at 8:19 pm

That cat is totally McChompering on his poor little head!

70 hrh.squeak 05.11.07 at 8:21 pm

This video so needs the theme to Jaws behind it . . .

“Dun DUN dun DUN dun DUN . . .”

“We’re gonna need a bigger lawn.”

71 Martha 05.11.07 at 8:21 pm

“I have like 10 freakin’ lbs o’ cat fur all stuck in my lipstick!!” (said the female turtle) *ptooey sounds*

72 Mary the other one 05.11.07 at 8:24 pm

TOO funny. I love at the very beginning, torti chases off kitty for a sec. and starts to walk away.. then realizes kitty is still there and turns toward him to charge him. “I said GET OFF MY LAWN and I mean STAY OFF!” and then “WHAT’s WRONG WITH YOU? GET OFF!! dang @()* cats anyway” (grumble grumble) and just keeps going after him.

Either that or he’s just trying to get a good snorgle on the kitty tail fur and kitty is all “uh.. sorry dewd.. not my thing .. uh ..ok .. leave me alone now.. not interested, really .. “

73 jenjen 05.11.07 at 8:26 pm

HA! The look on that cat’s face when the tortoise keeps coming… “why won’t it leave me alone!” – priceless!

74 AmyH 05.11.07 at 8:43 pm

I’m going to firmly step into a territory I never enter – harshing da cute.

At first when the kitty flipped it over, I thought, “Ha, he’s playing with the family pet.” Then I saw the shell and the open mouth and my heart stopped. It looks like species of Snapping turtle. Those effers are mean and nasty. When they bite prey, they don’t let go, even after you whack their heads off. This is a little one, but I still wouldn’t want it to take a bite out of me.

As a rural girl, we’ve had some close and scary calls with pets and snappers. If you have one in the yard, take a thick, sturdy stick and poke it until it clamps on. Then move it to a safe location. Leave it with the stick and eventually he’ll let go and wander away.

75 AmyH 05.11.07 at 8:46 pm

And even though I was freaked out watching this video – I’m really, really, really glad the cats are okay. Whew! If it was a regular turtle, it would be hilarious. (The cats are gorgeous, btw)

76 Theo 05.11.07 at 8:47 pm

Shell looks awfully smooth for a snapper, AmyH, at least to my eye.

77 mojojojo 05.11.07 at 8:50 pm

OMG! the gaping toofless maw

78 AmyH 05.11.07 at 9:02 pm

Theo – I hope you are right and I’m wrong. It looked like he had defined ‘bumps’ going on. The common turtles on our property in MI are snappers and painted, and the desert tortoises out here in AZ aren’t exactly zippy or aggressive.

One of my earliest memories is of a full-grown snapper headed straight for my dad out in the field. I shrieked, he eluded the attack, and my German-only-speaking great-grandfather ended up having turtle soup for dinner. So all’s well that ends well, I guess. :-)

79 Tor 05.11.07 at 9:06 pm

Oh no! I was, like, tewtally identifying with the Tortoise here–and even half-formulating my oh-so-witty post about personality tests based on whom CO readers identify with in the scenario– till I learned it might be a Snapper. Now I feel like I need behavioral therapy instead. Snap!

80 Tina Rhea 05.11.07 at 9:07 pm

I don’t think that’s a snapper, but could be wrong.

When I saw the second cat, for a moment I thought the tortoise had bitten all the poor kid’s fur off….

One of my catsitting clients has six cats and a tortoise in her condo. The tortoise pretty much leaves the cats alone, but she goes for me! When I’m wearing sandals in summer, I could lose toes! I have to pick her up and put her in the other room so it takes her a while to get back to me and I can finish with the cat food prep. And she moves this fast, too– “Ah, fresh toes!” (lumber, lumber, lumber)

81 j. 05.11.07 at 9:16 pm

I’ve had cats and turtles together. The turtles psychologically tormented the cats. They can move fast WHEN THEY HAVE A REASON TO DO SO. The tortoise clearly was VERY angry. At first I thought it was just the usual shooing the cat off a warm spot to steal it. They do that. The pursuit though!

82 garfield 05.11.07 at 9:17 pm

Haha, just today I stumbled upon this one:
http://www.garfieldcollectibles.com/ShowStrip.asp?ss=2001/strip2001-10-20

Such a coincidence… I can’t stop laughing… somebody help me, it hurts.

83 AmyH 05.11.07 at 9:23 pm

Ha! Thanks for the funny, garfield!

Okay, so maybe I’m just paranoid due to my early childhood turtle trauma. I’ll gladly be wrong! I was pretty worried about the kitties, and I’ll feel better if this is a run-of-the-mill pissed off pet.

84 liz 05.11.07 at 9:24 pm

That little thing has been watching too much Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s a cartoon, not real life, silly!

85 musicchick2 05.11.07 at 9:57 pm

“HERE I come to save the day!!” Super-Turtle!!

86 Blue 05.11.07 at 10:05 pm

De chelonian mobile, indeed.

87 Shawna 05.11.07 at 10:24 pm

Anyone know what breed of cat the white one is? It has a very unique facial structure – very cute!

88 lesley 05.11.07 at 10:40 pm

:( i didnt like this! the kitty was hurting the turtle, and he was just trying to defend his territory. it made me really really sad to see the cat biting and scratching poor little turtle :( please meg.. no more turtle abuse!

89 Alice Shortcake 05.11.07 at 10:43 pm

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the garden…yes, tortoises are terrible when roused.

90 Ngarei 05.11.07 at 10:55 pm

Turtle: “Try me, I’ll make you famous”

91 Mary 05.11.07 at 10:55 pm

Shawna, that was a purebred Siamese.. “frost point” I think it’s called when the points are hardly a different color than the body. You can see a bit of orange on his tail though. He’s (or she) definitely a beauty!!

92 Cassandra 05.11.07 at 10:56 pm

Hahaha Tor, I was also reading comments to see who was rooting for kitty and who was rooting for tortie. Personally, I’m gunning for the tortoise, that cat is being a brat and he knows it. He’s like the pesky little brother who just wont go away! (don’t hate on me though, I lurve the kitty too, I just think the tortoise is funny funny)

93 Lucinda 05.11.07 at 11:03 pm

Poor cat!

94 oaklandcat 05.11.07 at 11:33 pm

IMHO, they’re both being kinda bratty! And they have equal chances to injure the other one. Evenly matched fight, I’d say. And they both have ample opportunity to get away.

95 katy 05.11.07 at 11:58 pm

Awww. Whoever called him Mr. Sheldrake–are you making a reference to The Apartment, with Shirley Maclaine and Jack Lemmon? That’s one of my fave movies. Btw, I love the turtleage.

96 rocketpants 05.12.07 at 12:24 am

Turtle: DO NOT WANT!
Kit: im in ur yard, flippin yr shell
Turtle: oh yeah? im in yr butt, tunneling to yr face!

97 kelson 05.12.07 at 12:37 am

see how the cat is waving his /her tail? thats pretty playful. i m sure the cat could escape at any time

98 e 05.12.07 at 12:38 am

my turtle does the same thing to one of my cats! what is that about??

99 R. Moore 05.12.07 at 1:14 am
100 darkshines 05.12.07 at 1:20 am

You know the moment that does it for me? The very begining. They’re all like buddies, and then the torty looks scared, and starts running away, and I’m all “run torty run!”. Then he turns round all is all “TONIGHT WE DINE IN HELL!”. Theriouthly, I was shocked, slightly appaulled and secretly ecstatic……

101 Shannon W 05.12.07 at 1:22 am

At first I was concerned about Mr. Tortie’s head – but he is clearly holding his. I wonder who came first? Turtle or cats? Who is invading whose turf here, lol.

102 Shannon W 05.12.07 at 1:23 am

At first I was concerned about Mr. Tortie’s head – but he is clearly holding his own. I wonder who came first? Turtle or cats? Who is invading whose turf here, lol.

sorry sorry sorry if this, like, triple posts. Puter issues. Sorry!

103 jen 05.12.07 at 1:26 am

egads, at first i was afraid kitteh might bite mr. t’s head too hard, but they are clearly playing nicely. actually, i think tortie has the upper hand…err…claw.

this is too funny. kitteh mcflooferson (oh lordie how floofy and pretty!) is so coy, and stimey mcturlepants is relentless.

i like the straight on ‘attack shot’ of the turtle coming at the camera, mouth opening and closing like a little pac man. too funny!

104 Lisa 05.12.07 at 1:28 am

Wow, this video is really breaking lots of turtle stereotypes. It might lead to better roles in Hollywood than just “the Slowskys”. I dunno… turtles are wayyy cute when they are slow, but when sped up.. not as cute.

105 Marie 05.12.07 at 1:42 am

Why shouldn’t the turtle defend itself? Geez! That cat was flipping him dangerously around at first! Plus any cat would run faaaar away very fast if he truly wanted to be alone. This turtle rocks!!

All hail SuperTurtle!! Whoo-hoo!

106 Dale 05.12.07 at 1:49 am

Anyone else reminded of those Roomba robot vacuums?

107 Annie 05.12.07 at 1:56 am

All hail the kitty banisher torte’

108 Katherine 05.12.07 at 2:03 am

Ted The Territorial Tortoise, Pesters other pets on purpose,
He DOES not like the kitty,
But I hope you like this ditty!

109 A thinker 05.12.07 at 2:41 am

Beware the wrath of the Trained Attack Tortoise.

Really, who knew?

Poor bewildered kitty isn’t quite sure what to make of it. I think that was tortoise hissing, not kitty. That is one seriously angry reptile.

110 Longtail 05.12.07 at 2:49 am

*Jaws them* Dun dun. Dun dun. Dun dun dun dun dun dun…

…ehn ehn ehn!!!

Never underestimate the determination of a mad turtle. I had a box turtle once, she could really scoot after what she wanted!

111 Jorden 05.12.07 at 2:54 am

I am such a giant wimp I actually felt a surge of fright when that turtle headed right for the camera!

112 mb 05.12.07 at 4:50 am

Sooooo….that’s what the pretty kitty *really* looks like under all that fluff! Mr Tortoise has found a new occupation as a barber. ;-)

113 Tarwa 05.12.07 at 5:33 am

I’ve been depressed all day because a girl in my class died today, and this just made me laugh. Thanks!

114 abad 05.12.07 at 5:50 am

Two predators having it out with each other! Too cute! ;)

115 shollia 05.12.07 at 6:10 am

Lol.. that was really cute. When the turtle was heading for the camera mouth opening and closing.. lol
I’d never want to get bitten by one, but it was cute when it was chasing the cats :P

116 Genevieve 05.12.07 at 6:17 am

That turtle is too cute & such a character. I WANT IT!!!! Also, I hope that it doesn’t run into a cat that bites it’s head off. I’m sure at least one of my cats would have totally of killed that little guy.

117 behka 05.12.07 at 6:34 am

turtle wants to know about mr kitty!

118 Subhangi 05.12.07 at 7:50 am

I squeed and screamed at the same time. I wouldn’t want to mess with that turtle. Did you see his gaping mouth? Persistent little bugger. (And speedy too.)

The marmalade kitty is lovely. But why didn’t silly cats just get out of there?!

119 Subhangi 05.12.07 at 7:52 am

And Garfield – LOL!

120 Michelle 05.12.07 at 8:26 am

<3 that turtle

the gaping beaked maw was terrifying and cute at the same time!

121 Martin-san 05.12.07 at 9:36 am

wow, never seen a turtle work so hard just to give a kiss. hard work loving someone infinitely faster than yourself.

122 cary 05.12.07 at 9:47 am

you show that cat who’s boss! i have a tortoise and a cat, and the cat thinks it’s funny to tease the tortoise until Flash (thats our tortoise’s name) gets mad and chases her around the yard.

123 Cain 05.12.07 at 10:01 am

Poor kitties, there was more than enough room for everyone!

124 Marci 05.12.07 at 11:08 am

Too cute! I need an attack torty to protect my veggie garden. I’d even share with him!

MEAN EVIL TORTIE! Poor fluffy kitty is just trying to relax and enjoy the weather and rotten lil’ shell-butt won’t leave him alone!
I read a few comments saying ‘poor turtle’. ARE YOU SERIOUS?!? Fluffers was doing nothing but protecting himself!
I think it’s time for a big, steaming bowl of turtle soup. Fed to pretty kitty. Using the shell as a bowl. HHMMPPHH!

130 Pheas 05.12.07 at 3:27 pm

katy — No, I didn’t remember Sheldrake from The Apartment. It just, you know, seemed like a turtley name. Sheldon’s so overdone.

131 blair 05.12.07 at 3:36 pm

Teresa Earnhardt called

she wants to know if the turtle likes the number “8″

132 Tori 05.12.07 at 3:37 pm

135 Megan 05.12.07 at 7:57 pm

Teenage Mutant Ninja Toitle!

Seriously, did anyone check underneath for wheels?

140 fluidstatic 05.13.07 at 12:22 am

@ cavalaxis: LOL.

I couldn’t believe it when turtle mcturtleson went into the garden to harass the OTHER cat. Minding its own business. Somebody should have just put him in the house and let the cats sunbathe, seriously.

141 Ameliorate 05.13.07 at 12:51 am

Blue: I don’t know if anyone else got that Discworld reference, but I certainly LOLd. The turtle DOES move :)

142 cutebabyfix.com 05.13.07 at 1:25 am

Unrequited love is always so sad. The kitteh just toyed wif his heart and then so indifferent. Hell hath no fury like a turtle scorned.

143 Annie 05.13.07 at 1:46 am

And now the turtle will have to spend his days pineing away for the kitty and hating every kitty he meets.

144 Bonnie 05.13.07 at 5:27 am

RC turtle? Seemed it was zeroing in on the kitties just a bit too well.

145 CantGetNuffCO 05.13.07 at 5:48 am

I *sooooo* need one of those turtles for my backyard!!! Am tired of the neighbor’s fluffballs infesting my yard.. Go get ‘em, speedy!

146 lil_cutey 05.13.07 at 6:41 am

aaaaaaaaaawwwwwww! Bad Kitty! Bad Kitty! Bad Kitty! Poor Turtle! (sniff, sniff). Why can’t the cat chaese a mouse!? Poor lil turtle!!!

147 Dale 05.13.07 at 6:52 am

I think it may be time for a new category: Interspecies Harassment. (Key: big animal harassing small animal…not cute. Small animal harassing big animal…cute.)

148 Fia 05.13.07 at 8:41 am

What are you doing posting that on this site? The poor tortoise was only curious and nearly got its little head bitten off by your cat for just looking. Its ok to be determined, and I know its what a cat does, but couldn’t you do something about it? Sorry to complain, but I don’t find it to cute, it could actually be dangerous, as when tortoises are flipped on there backs, they can’t breathe. Sorry.

149 Bonnie 05.13.07 at 1:42 pm

Some Perspective, Please!
That is a a snapping turtle and they have very strong jaws! It is biting those 2 cats, not playing with them! When someone realizes what is really happening in this video—-this is mean, not cute!
Doesn’t anyone recognize a snapping turtle? The bites of a snapping turtle really hurt!

150 Theresa 05.13.07 at 2:12 pm

That’s an American box turtle. Like this one:
http://www.twingroves.district96.k12.il.us/WEtlands/Turtles/BoxTurtle/BoxTurtlePicts/BTSide.gif
More perspective, indeed, and less drama, please.

151 Chris 05.13.07 at 2:34 pm

To some of the Nuffinghams above – despite occasional evidence to the contrary, I think we can assume neither turtles nor cats are complete idiots. When our cat is really scared or in danger, she doesn’t move 10 feet away and flop down on her side. That’s play behavior. If the cat was really hurt, it would have gone for heights (like the snake chased by a rabbit).
Furrfu.
I have a lot less insight into whether or how turtles play, but I think a turtle in danger would not obstinately pursue its oppressor.
My first comment on CO and here I am hectoring. Guess I need to go look at some otters.

152 Sammka 05.13.07 at 2:48 pm

Holy overreactions everyone! If either animal were really hurt you would be able to tell.

The people who posted this video, saying that it was a tortoise in their garden, live in South Africa! Snappers DO NOT F-ING LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA.

Probably a girl tortoise with some eggs hidden around the yard.

153 Kathleen 05.13.07 at 3:20 pm

That little guy can sure go!

154 Dan Bledwich 05.13.07 at 3:49 pm

“Nawmmm! Tail!!!”

155 Sabella 05.13.07 at 5:16 pm

It’s funny that so many people are “poor little turtle” when it keeps going back for more and is the aggressor! Relax people.

156 Teresa 05.13.07 at 5:50 pm

LOL…the cat isn’t even bother the turtle….he just keeps going after the cat..too funny.

157 Pam 05.14.07 at 12:49 pm

If those were my kittehs, I’d be makin meeself some good ol’ turtle soup!

158 j. 05.14.07 at 3:08 pm

Fer trying out loud, didn’t you people watch nature shows growing up? Look at the shell! Clearly not a snapper! And for God’s sake do you realy think turtles are no better designed than daleks? Of course they can flip themselves back over.

159 Theo 05.14.07 at 3:20 pm

Dalek turtles!??? You mean they HOVER?

160 redbone 05.14.07 at 3:49 pm

Ha! A male turtle, defending his territory. At least, I’m guessing that’s what’s going on. He wants all the cats out of the area so he can attract females.

For the inevitable whiners above, what the male is doing might sting the cats a bit, but he’s not trying to really hurt them, just like the cats aren’t really trying to strike back. It’s one of those “same planet, different worlds” moments where neither animal seems to be communicating correctly to the other.

Funny vid XD

161 Lisa 05.14.07 at 8:07 pm

Why, WHY didn’t the cat just flip the darn thing on its back?

162 pat_the_bunny 05.14.07 at 8:14 pm

No one can harsh teh cute on this one for me. Funniest frikkin’ thing I have evar seen!

163 Alzuun 05.14.07 at 8:18 pm

Reminds me of the end of that scene in Happy Feet with the Leopard Seal: oh…we’re going to have to run away from you in the next HALF HOUR! :D

164 pat_the_bunny 05.14.07 at 8:24 pm

Chris, I knows cats and I agree with your analysis above.

165 Becca 05.14.07 at 8:52 pm

um, that’s not a snapper. tortoise. i’ve seen them move that fast, but what’s with the zone-in-on-kitty? rabies?

166 andy 05.15.07 at 3:01 pm

why are their so many mean turtels???!!!

167 kattenmeisje 05.16.07 at 7:33 pm

This made me laugh so much!! What a determined turtle.

168 Brian 05.18.07 at 1:31 pm

I saw this clip on “The Daily Buzz” this morning, but it wasn’t in its entirety. The best shot? The torpuscle “charging” the the camera, mouth posed for chomping. Too funny.
