Is this in Port St. Lucie, FL? These guys run around my neighborhood too! Soooo cute!

8 Denita TwoDragons 04.24.07 at 7:47 pm

It’s a rare FuzzyTock Crane, of the genus StorkieCraneaFragilistic ExPeepHeadAslplodious! They like to hang out with other cranes and pretend to be their babies, you see… ;-)

13 kmira 04.24.07 at 8:34 pm

We have these birds in Orlando too. I got my 3 yr old to call them “Freaky Birds”. They’re kinda freaky to someone who just moved from Boston :)

14 Karen in Toronto 04.24.07 at 8:49 pm

Baby sandhill ‘tocks are *much* cuter than baby whooper ‘tocks (http://www.operationmigration.org/Field_Journal.html ) but much less endangered.

I just bid on an OM video on eBay…

15 redhed 04.24.07 at 8:54 pm

The baby looks like a duck on stilts. It’s a little scary. But cute.

16 Lauri 04.24.07 at 9:18 pm

Oooo, extremely cute!
We have these all the time in my yard, but, only after they have grown up enough to fly! I have never seen one as bebelishous as this one!

Keeyoot!

17 Aubrey 04.24.07 at 9:54 pm

“StorkieCraneaFragilistic ExPeepHeadAslplodious”???

D2D, your crane-ium must have been working overtime!

By the way, I love these long-legged beasties.

18 HRH 04.24.07 at 10:42 pm

19 pjk 04.24.07 at 11:01 pm

My gosh, the first picture looks like a painting by Audobon!

20 musicchick2 04.25.07 at 12:00 am

D2D, you rock (as usual)! Thanks for the grin. ;-)

I dunno if I’ve ever seen these guys or not. There were often unusual birds hanging around on MCAS Camp Pendleton (in Oceanside, CA). On Oahu too. Does anybody know if this species inhabits tropical climes?

21 FEnM 04.25.07 at 12:09 am

Aw, birdies!
We need more wild birdies on this Site… ^_^

22 John Masters 04.25.07 at 12:55 am

Oh my gosh, I just found that you posted my pics!

Hooray! I’ll have to revel in my brief moment in the sun.

The birds were outside where I work in Melbourne, Florida.

I just loved how the parents were teaching the little guy to find and eat stuff in the grass.

You made my day Cute Overload!

23 Susie 04.25.07 at 1:12 am

Ok not to rain on anybodies parade but I do not like birdies. I have this fear that they’re going to fly into my face and break my nose, and I’m freaking out because of exams. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH need more QTE!

24 Nikkal 04.25.07 at 1:16 am

“Is that flattery I’m heron, Aubrey…? *grin*”

Naw, D2D – I was just winging it, needed to think of SOMETHING: so I had to restork to desperate measures.

28 pyrit 04.25.07 at 2:06 am

D2D – Say it loud enough and you’ll always sound precocious.

…The biggest bird I ever heard….

29 Denita TwoDragons 04.25.07 at 2:44 am

Aub sez: “…I was just winging it, needed to think of SOMETHING: so I had to restork to desperate measures.”

Just don’t let your improv beakome too desperate, you might wind up feeling bittern, hon! ;-)

Pyrit…it’s official. I have an earworm stuck in my head. (And I can’t even pin the blame on anyone else, either!)

31 Aubrey 04.25.07 at 2:54 am

32 Ilona 04.25.07 at 3:39 am

Check out the super model walk in pic # 2. TYRA, EAT YOUR HEART OUT!

33 Denita TwoDragons 04.25.07 at 4:15 am

Oh Aubrey my love(bird), I’d never pull the owl over your eyes! Just the idea alone would leave me pacing the floor all night(hawk)! My heavens, it even makes me want to upchuck-will’s-widow…

(I had to work my favorite bird in there somehow…*grin!*)

34 Margaret 04.25.07 at 4:59 am

Work it, girl!

35 Aubrey 04.25.07 at 5:58 am

D2D, your tern of phrase curlews the hairs on my head. I quail at saying anything else, but is it to spare-row me or you?

36 cutebabyfix.com 04.25.07 at 12:13 pm

Yowch-kilt ded by puns. Death by puns is not how I wudda chose to die. By cute, or chocolate mebbe. But puns? I ken just see me standin around in heaven when everyone is comparing notes- so how’d you die? Oh, I choked on a werthers original, old age, my ex-wife, etc. But me? I’m gonna have to say Puns.

37 cutebabyfix.com 04.25.07 at 12:21 pm

Oh, and Mr. Masters, we just love Melbourne Florida. We have been spending a lot of time there this past year visiting the best Dr. for autism in the country, Dr. Bradstreet. If ever you visit Melbourne, go to the library, because they have a pond that is full of tiny cranular birds, ibises, ducks and chickens! My children kept asking if we could go back to the library over the beach!

38 Abraham Lincoln 04.25.07 at 12:38 pm

Wow. Look at that. I really like these photographs a lot.

Abraham Lincoln

39 ceejoe 04.25.07 at 12:40 pm

John Masters – awesome shots!

40 jaypo 04.25.07 at 12:53 pm

Aubrey, don’t be robin the peeps of their peace of mind. You have a lot of gull…

41 pyrit 04.25.07 at 1:08 pm

Aubrey – Captain. It’s CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow.

42 Drama's Mama 04.25.07 at 1:35 pm

I LOVE when I see cute animals on CO that I never before had noticed were cute. This post has opened my eyes to fluffy crane ‘tocks!

Like Susie, birds generally freak me out, but for some reason, I am absolutely in love with this little guy.

Kittens are ALWAYS cute, but it takes a real PhD in CUTE to find adorableness in unusual animals!

43 Leilani 04.25.07 at 2:24 pm

Sing to the tune of “Baby Face”:

Birdy butt!
You’ve got the cutest fuzzy birdy butt!

44 Subhangi 04.26.07 at 3:25 am

OMG those are some LEGS.

Fuzzbutt! Fuzzbutt!

45 EricaE 04.26.07 at 8:20 pm

Am I heron this all correctly?
You are all so talented. I wish I could emu-late your punning. But I always seem to get stork for ideas.
If I could I would crane my neck over your shoulder as you type.
Alas, I must simply wallow in a black ibis of despair.
I guess it’s just too bitter a pill to swallow.

46 Theo 04.26.07 at 8:39 pm

This conversation is for the… the uh… um.
Dang it.

47 pyrit 04.26.07 at 8:50 pm

Oh my Goldfinch! EricaE is swift! (watches her brain go up in flamingoes.)

48 EricaE 04.26.07 at 9:08 pm

Someday it will be my tern.
Maybe if I dove into work I could im-partrige some witty punnage to you all.
Is there some cardinal rule I am forgetting?

49 EricaE 04.26.07 at 9:19 pm

You are all such pergrines of punnery.
I egret that I haven’t more skill. So, rather than grouse, owl try harder.

50 pyrit 04.26.07 at 11:14 pm

Why did EricaE cross the road?
To get to the other eider.

51 pyrit 04.26.07 at 11:33 pm

Time and ptarmigan, these puns are vireo hard to swallow and condor make me loon-y.

(ducks)
