Hangin’ on a petal

by Meg on March 13, 2007

Check out this lil’ guy hanging on his rose "front porch."

He’s all waving at cars going by and hollering "Howdy neighbor!"

It’s not easy being bleen?

3 ask-god-a-question.com 03.13.07 at 7:11 pm

He looks quite content and rightly so – who among us wouldn’t want to spend our day inside a rose?

4 Suzanne 03.13.07 at 7:11 pm

That has to be the softest toad hole yet! And also the best smelling. :)

5 Theresa 03.13.07 at 7:11 pm

He’s teeny and green and lives in a rose. Sort of Hans Christian Andersen-ish.

6 ali 03.13.07 at 7:12 pm

i’m in your flower, stealin’ your good-smelliness!

10 Redzilla 03.13.07 at 7:27 pm

Aw…nothing says romance like one single rose, with a little green frog in it.

11 Martha in Washington 03.13.07 at 7:29 pm

I love little green frogs.
And big red roses.
I especially love little green frogs IN big red roses!! Beautiful (and lucky) picture.

12 Martha in Washington 03.13.07 at 7:32 pm

Hey dustbunny- any chance that the website comes in English?

13 snusnu 03.13.07 at 7:33 pm

You know, everyone I know BUT ME has these little poopers in their yards. Pacific chorus treefrogs, ya know. I wants them.

14 violetgreen 03.13.07 at 7:37 pm

Take some time to stop and snorgle the treefrogs.

15 unon 03.13.07 at 7:38 pm

Even froggies need a place to relax.

16 Theo 03.13.07 at 7:41 pm

26 BunFF 03.13.07 at 8:43 pm

Aaaaaaaaaack!!!! HOW DO YOU GET LUCKY ENOUGH TO SNAP A PIC LIKE THAT????

Stunning!

27 Persephone 03.13.07 at 8:46 pm

omg! That is such a happy picture! :) I love this site so moishe.

28 book_monstercats 03.13.07 at 8:48 pm

Oh my Lorrrrddddd! That is brill.

I had a garden in one of my previous houses, with a “Peace” rose in it (big, loose petals) and, for about two years running, a spider made a nursery out of it. I used to spend ages watching tiny spiderlets running around my prize rose. Funnily enough, tho’, I was the only one who thought it Qte.

Roses are red,
Froggies are green,
Cute Overload is the best website I’ve seen!

Froggies are green,
Roses are red,
I’ll stop with the praises ‘fore they go to Meg’s head!

31 AuntieMame 03.13.07 at 9:11 pm

LOL, Suzanne!

I need a rose petal home. I could be on an episode of “World’s Most Extreme Homes”!

32 Rumi 03.13.07 at 9:19 pm

Sweet little froggie, and GORGEOUS photo!

33 Rumi 03.13.07 at 9:20 pm

By the way, is there any particular reason why I no longer have to type in a random assortment of numbers and letters in order to post a comment without the site thinking I’m a bot? NOT that I’m complaining, mind you — it’s just that it suddenly stopped, a week or so ago….

34 Rumi 03.13.07 at 9:21 pm

ARGH! IT JUST CAME BACK, ON MY LAST POST!!!!

Does it maybe have something to do with how OFTEN I do or don’t post? Like, if I post more than once a day, it asks me for the gobbledygook?

35 Rosie 03.13.07 at 9:28 pm

“y’all get ouffa my lawn b’fore i call them sheriff people on u!!! y’here?!?!?!”

sorry, that was my first reaction to that little message…. i’ll just be quiet now…

36 sockmonstersarai 03.13.07 at 9:34 pm

Awesome picture! I love lizards and frogs and all sorts of non-fuzzy Qties… I have a lizard at home.

37 Jessica 03.13.07 at 9:36 pm

Meep! This is too cute!!!

38 megan 03.13.07 at 9:54 pm

good god! how tiny must that thing be?!?!

39 Aubrey 03.13.07 at 10:03 pm

“Wow, Petaluma is alot nicer than I expected it to be!”

40 KarKar 03.13.07 at 10:14 pm

I love the composition of this one. The green echoed in the vegetation and those larger than life petals with dewdrops. Best of all are those shades of green in the frog.

Maybe Kermit was wrong, maybe it is easy being green.

41 onionpencil musashi 03.13.07 at 10:14 pm

book-monster- i love baby spiders and such too. almost as cute as lil froggies is finding bees sleeping in flowers. i love to gently tickle them- not enough to wake them up. 8D

42 Zombie 03.13.07 at 10:21 pm

It’s FROG SEASON.

They are singing away in my back yard every night! Very relaxing!

43 lauowolf 03.13.07 at 10:43 pm

Peeper, peeper, insect eater,
Used to live in Virginia creeper.
One day he followed his froggie nose,
And found a home in a blooming rose

44 Denita TwoDragons 03.13.07 at 10:49 pm

Lauowolf, that would make a GREAT children’s book rhyme!

Yeah, this guy’s got a great Interior Decorator…*grin*

–TwoDragons

45 violetgreen 03.13.07 at 10:55 pm

OMG,Onionpencil, TY for reminding of bees sleepimg in flowers in my gardening days! (Apartment life now) I always grew sunflowers and 2 or 3 little bees would often sleep near the bottom of the disk. Thought that would make a great name and sign for a motel: “The Sleepy Bee”.

46 Suda Nim 03.13.07 at 11:01 pm

Aubrey, I shall smack you again. And I’m not backpetaling this time.

47 Another Angela 03.13.07 at 11:07 pm

The summer before last, my friend’s huge dahlia garden was FULL of these chorus frogs. We were out taking photos for days. So, you don’t have to be lucky, you just have to live in the rainy Pacific Northwest.

48 SeaBreeze 03.13.07 at 11:11 pm

Cute! =)

This is one little froggie that I wouldn’t mind kissin’.

49 Audrey 03.13.07 at 11:52 pm

The title makes me think of the song Livin’ on a prayer.

50 Lizz 03.14.07 at 12:38 am

Ahhh, my uncle the photog and my sister the wise and wonderful submishtress of this froggy rose should be congratulated!!! Way to go Joe A and EllieBee!!!!

51 annoying little twerp 03.14.07 at 12:50 am

AAAAH!
Fwoggie!
I collect all things “froggie”-and in January a photo I snapped of my boy cat Shady, covered by my frog ‘menagerie’ made it on to “Stuff On My Cat.”
My fav creature is the shortfin Mako(shark)-so I collect…frogs.
Go figure.
Btw-sorry ’bout the run on.

52 LynBlue 03.14.07 at 12:56 am

Awwww, I’m besotted with frogs – BESOTTED I SAY!

53 eruntale 03.14.07 at 1:18 am

utterly cute! i love teenie froggies!

54 Angela P. 03.14.07 at 1:25 am

Doo doo doo, lookin’ out my back… petal.

55 Aubrey 03.14.07 at 1:48 am

“Aubrey, I shall smack you again.”

Pretty optimistic about your chances, eh? Take off your rose-colored glasses, ‘Nim.

56 SeaBreeze 03.14.07 at 3:26 am

“Frogsie supposes the roses are houses but frogsie supposes erroneously.”

(Apologies to “Singing In the Rain”)

57 Martha in Washington 03.14.07 at 3:31 am

SeaB-I just watched that yesterday on TCM!

Another Angela-don’t you just love all the singing frogs in the Great PNW. Sometimes when I go outside at night it is almost deafening but I love it.

58 SeaBreeze 03.14.07 at 3:34 am

MIW, I LOVE that movie! It is like one of da best movies eveh! =)

59 Carlisa 03.14.07 at 3:38 am

Can you imagine taking a BIG whiff of that rose?…Next thing you know, two tiny green feet are hanging out of your nose…

60 Tor 03.14.07 at 3:54 am

Watching flies passin’ by
It’s the latest thing
I’m not waiting on a lady(bug)
I’m just waiting on a friend…

61 Martha in Washington 03.14.07 at 4:05 am

SeaB-It was voted the Best Musical Movie of All Time by the American Film Institute, understandably so.

62 Flora 03.14.07 at 5:33 am

Awww – that is so adorable! He is SO tiny to fit in that flower, and he looks so very happy about the whole thing.

63 Kathy C 03.14.07 at 7:12 am

Froggie! He looks so comfy in his rosey hangout. Awesome pic! (It really brought the poets out too!) :)

64 The honourable Gladys Anstruther 03.14.07 at 7:19 am

Ribbit Ribbit

65 Subhangi 03.14.07 at 8:37 am

Roses n’ ribbits – could this be my prince?

What a sweet lil’ froglette!

66 acelightning 03.14.07 at 8:41 am

*TINY* little froggie, great big rose – and froggie looks very contented. (Well, who *wouldn’t* want to live inside a rose if they could?)

67 Meaghan Good 03.14.07 at 11:49 am

I didn’t know they even made frogs that small.

68 BrianMPLS 03.14.07 at 12:13 pm

Teehee, Carlisa!

And, LynBlue? Eeeeew?

Ah crap. Shouldn’t have responded to both at the same time. Froggie feets should never dangle where they are in my head now! Too early in the day for that image!

69 book_monstercats 03.14.07 at 12:36 pm

Onionpencil, when I was at a BBQ held by some friends last summer, I was puzzled by what looked like lots of oval buttons stuck to the lavender flowers. They turned out to be bees that had been caught out by the sun going down quite quickly. Our hosts said they would probably still all be there next morning, only heading home when the sun came up.

70 jaypo 03.14.07 at 1:25 pm

petaliscious!

71 Argentee 03.14.07 at 1:27 pm

Take time to smell the froggies!

(hee! I can’t believe someone didn’t beat me to that one!)

72 silentsurfur 03.14.07 at 1:34 pm

Lovely blog, cute and awesome picture…….

73 Pheas 03.14.07 at 1:58 pm

Froglets in roses,

74 n 03.14.07 at 2:34 pm

i never thought a froggie could be so cute!!! wait, who am I kidding, of coruse I did!

75 sydney 03.14.07 at 2:48 pm

Just hope no one decides to pick the rose and sniff it.
RIbbit.

76 Theresa 03.14.07 at 4:06 pm

My dad lives in Florida, and one day he heard a weird BIG noise on the patio. He went out there and saw nothing, but tracked the big, booming weird noise to the grill. He scaredly flipped the cover off the grill, and sitting in there was a teensy green froglet with a basso profundo voice. Very Looney Toons. ;)

77 anner 03.14.07 at 4:07 pm

doesn’t this picture make you want to be small enough to fit inside a rose? and cute enough to appear on CO?

78 nutmeg 03.14.07 at 4:17 pm

How did you even NOTICE that? It’s so little!! It looks like a good idea for decorating a little girl’s bedroom: paint a flower on the wall nd make her bed a petal…

79 Suda Nim 03.14.07 at 4:48 pm

Aubrey: *puckers up and leans close* *SMACK!*

See? It worked!

80 Mia 03.14.07 at 4:58 pm

NOOOOO!!! No roses on this site!! I’m horribly allergic, can’t even LOOK at pix of them…I’m leaving if there’s another rose…oh, who am I kidding?! What a great shot! I love little baby froglets!!

81 Tremor McShakerson 03.14.07 at 5:14 pm

Why is it taking so long for new posts these days?!?!? Fame hits and the fans get left to mull over yesterday’s cuteness? C’mon…I need more or I’m heading to cuter pastures!

82 SarahR 03.14.07 at 5:35 pm

Yes, the Qte junkies are missing their fix…

83 Theo 03.14.07 at 5:35 pm

“Tremor” — Meg’s ALWAYS got a pile on her plate, and I’m out of town.

Fame “hit” a while ago, y’know. (Fark/Slashdot… Time magazine/CNN… the Webbys…)

84 jen 03.14.07 at 5:47 pm

you know the ol’ saying. “cute things come to those who wait.”

85 Angela P. 03.14.07 at 6:02 pm

Too much of a cute thing can be detrimental to your health and the health of those around you. Just think what would happen if you got all the cute you wanted, just when you wanted it. Your head would ’splode. And THAT is not cute!

86 Hie! 03.14.07 at 6:05 pm

Little froggies. The creatures I fear most.

87 Karen in Toronto 03.14.07 at 8:53 pm

Sorry for shouting but—

91 Suda Nim 03.14.07 at 10:33 pm

Yes, the waiting is getting difficult. My stamen-a is wearing down.

92 anner 03.14.07 at 10:51 pm

suda nim – i hope all this waiting is not too much of a thorn in your side.

93 smokeyJoe 03.14.07 at 11:29 pm

*ahem*

NO NEW PIX-URES TODAY!

94 anner 03.14.07 at 11:40 pm

how about a corgi?

95 diana 03.14.07 at 11:50 pm

Hey folks – I think we should all be EXTREMELY thankful that Meg does this at all – it’s not like we’re PAYING her or anything. She doesn’t owe us anything.

Besides, we’re a community. Any time there’s a longer than normal lull, go to the last post’s comments. People always post links to unofficial cuteness.

We can take care of ourselves sometimes. :)

96 Theo 03.15.07 at 12:00 am

Thank you kindly, Diana.

97 Marie 03.15.07 at 12:18 am

Super precious! I just love this shot. Brings a tear to the eye. Great job. Thank you!

holy CRAP, Zombie… do you have any background/source info on that pic?

100 Zombie 03.15.07 at 12:36 am

Not really; only that it was posted on http://scienceblogs.com/grrlscientist/

growabrain is somebody’s blog but I haven’t seen it before.

105 Aubrey 03.15.07 at 2:00 am

Suda, it seems that you rose to the occasion.

106 Suda Nim 03.15.07 at 2:05 am

Aubrey, it’s a vine thing we’ve done.

107 Another Angela 03.15.07 at 2:07 am

I know I’ll be in the minority, but I like it when there are only a very few pics a day, not all posted at once. Anyway, Meg and Theo have been super at keeping the site going at such full speed. There’s always a backlog of cute and comments in the archives for the desperate.

108 Pheas 03.15.07 at 2:17 am

110 Nikkal 03.15.07 at 2:32 am

Aubrey, you’re such a pistil!

111 Aubrey 03.15.07 at 2:40 am

And you’re a-pollen, Nikkal.

117 darkshines 03.15.07 at 7:50 am

My real name is rose, so this pic is lovely ^_^

118 Quick! 03.15.07 at 4:13 pm

Can you even imagine what it would feel like to be inside a rose? The softness of the petals, the scent. Oh, God. What a wonder!

119 EliottM 03.15.07 at 6:23 pm

One time I was with a bunch of relatives at a botanical garden. I looked in a tropical flower and saw a colorful frog looking back at me, definitely from where the flower came from, not our northern U.S.

I said “Hey! There’s a frog in this flower! Look!” I cajoled and pleaded and nobody would look in the flower.

They didn’t want to take a chance on being fooled. It was April 1.

120 yvonne 03.16.07 at 12:15 am

121 Helene 03.17.07 at 2:28 am

122 Tor 03.17.07 at 2:29 am

Oh EliottM. At least you see such a sight again here, and can revel in again in the amazing qte of yesteryear even as you glory in the present wonder. Maybe sending them the link would heal the rift?

123 Dagger 04.16.07 at 5:41 pm
