Monkers!

by Meg on February 23, 2007

Check out Sir Beadiness on his Momma’s back. Talk about yer rule 16. I also like their teeny lil’ gray muzzlepouches…like they dipped their faces in a bowl of octopus ink ;)

Monkeekee

Holy crap, first posterior?! Can’t be.

I love little monkeys… like tiny, cute alien people. I’ve actually dedicated a surprising amount of time to reminding people which ones are monkeys and which ones are apes, since people are always calling gorillas, chimps, etc., monkeys. It’s not as obnoxious as it sounds, I promise.

How about rule #7?

I like how she fit “muzzlepouch” in there, although at our house we call them “muzzlepuffs”, pronounced “moooozlepoooofs”.

I also note the pointy-ear theme that’s been going on recently. Heh.

Wow, so I’m not the only one who finds that a pet peeve (people confusing the two, that is)? Oh, good. ^_^
Monkeys have tails, people. It’s NOT that hard.

No kidding! I actually wrote a song about that, called Apes (online at garageband.com). But there is the one exception, the Barbary Macaque, sometimes misnamed the Barbary Ape for his or her lack of tailio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbary_Macaque

Uhm… so this picture is aaadorable. Or rather, anerable. :P

Can anyone tell me what sort of monkey this is?

16 Theo 02.24.07 at 2:28 am

Chelsea, it’s a Spock Monkey. Note the ears.
(Not to be confused with its better-known cousin, the Sock Monkey.)
Hee har. Anybody know the *actual* answer?

17 Tina Rhea 02.24.07 at 3:50 am

Look like squirrel monkeys to me. Try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squirrel_monkey and scroll down to the one on the left.

18 Chelsea 02.24.07 at 4:32 am

A Spock Monkey. Now how did I miss that? I can always count on you, Theo, to clear things up for me. (And I call myself a trekkie… *shakes head*)

Also, thanks Tina!

Awww, so cute, I can totally see the love in momma’s eyes. But the baby is all “what’s up?”

20 Theo 02.24.07 at 6:10 am

I think Tina R has spotted our monkey (for real).

21 Chelsea 02.24.07 at 7:02 am

Tina may have done quick work identifying the fabulous squirrel monkey, but they’ll always be Spock Monkies in my heart. :D

22 diana 02.25.07 at 1:37 am

Holy Moly!
according to wikipedia: “Female squirrel monkeys have a pseudo-penis that they use to display dominance over smaller monkeys, much like the way the male squirrel monkeys display their dominance.”

23 Anna 02.25.07 at 6:07 am

They are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!

24 all day long 02.25.07 at 8:39 am

25 Subhangi 02.25.07 at 4:48 pm

Aargh. I wish we had these cuties here instead of those huge ugly langurs…

26 Joha 02.26.07 at 3:20 pm

I think they live in South and Central America

27 Laura 02.27.07 at 3:30 pm
