Hey Atlanta Zoo? High Five!

Check out the sweetness that is "Mei Lan" the prize bebeh panda of the Atlanta Zoo. She’s learning valuable lessons, right in front of your eyes!

Lesson 1. How to eat bamboo. Snorgle first, then place in chompers like Columbo.

Lesson 2. For best results during media visits, pretend it’s your 1986 school pic and post with a "log".

3. Life’s cruel lesson: [Say in Casey Kasem radio voice] "Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for those stars"

Ehn! (Also, please note complete lack of ‘tocks)

and Lesson 4: Try and focus your eyeballs. This isn’t the Chihuahua exhibit.

Way to be a sender-inner, Erin G. 😉

  6. That’s not a panda. It’s the photonegative of an orca.

  30. Panda-monium!
I’m in lurrve wif da bebeh pander.. need to snorgle NOW. 12 year old son seen running from the room to avoid being snorgled as a replacement for panders…

  31. This little panda is poifect. It’s like it’s made out of pom-poms or something. I love the “no tocks” one best!

  32. Oooooo I want a baby panda for my very own!

  33. katherine says:

Indeed blood — if you look at zoo atlanta’s website, apparently pandas produce 30 lbs of poop each day! suddenly I’m more appreciative of my cats, who don’t produce nearly as much…

    panda keeper’s blog, January 12, #4:

  34. C.O is the master at Cuteoverloads. You see these pandas clearly have blown me away. Anerable.

  35. My favorite panda post was about the Washington baby, Tai Shan. One rainy night he wouldn’t come down from the tree (which was, I’m not kidding, No. 1: The Larch) so they could put him up for the night.

That day’s blog started “His Majesty, Lord of the Trees, and Slayer of Staff Personal Time, otherwise referred to as Tai Shan, did not descend from his perch until 11 p.m. Monday night.”

  36. i can’t even handle this amount of cuteness. i will surely die.

  37. Hey, you changed the caption for #3! Whyfor?

Tewtally CUTE btw. Lovin’ the lack o’ panda tocks.

  38. Baby pandas! Bunches ‘o dem! Sliding down slides on a playground…in da’ snow!!!

  43. that thing is a stuffed animal! Holy–!

    *sniffle* Pics# 2, 4 and 5 are heartbreaking.

    *splintering sound*

  45. lauowolf – There was a lot of bamboo where I used to live. You can watch it growing! And it is strong. It started coming up through the garage floor. I think a thicket of bamboo is called a cane brake?

Suda Nim – Thanks for sharing. I wish that was CNN’s Headline.

Other than that I got nothin’. Except that , “eats, shoots and leaves” joke. That’s all I got. Shoot.

  46. OMG OMG OMG that is just tooo cute!i absoloutly love pandas!just got a 12 month adoption for a panda called Zhu Xiong. Love Love Love em!xx

  47. Hahahaha…well, the eats, shoots and leaves joke is always a goodie, pyrit!

This baby is the epitome of Cute!
    Always panda-ing for attention!

  48. Just remember: *I’m* not the one who raised up bar jokes….

A horse walks into a bar. The bartender says “Why the long face?”

A nun, a rabbi, and a minister walk into a bar. The bartender says, “Is this some kind of joke?

  49. PS…those videos are about the *expletively* cutest thing I’ve ever seen. What is it about widdle panda muzzles? (Or as my family pronounces it, mooz-lays.)

  50. The panda video.
It’s like picking up my kid at pre-school –back when.
    Only cuter.

I must be such a bad mom to think that.

  51. Heyyy Suda Baker !!!1!

    A Peep, a pun, a psuedonym and a pirate walk into a bar…
“We’re not as thrunk as thinkle peep we are.” The Peep, the pirate and the pun look at the pseudonym and say, “Our ‘p’ has gotta go!”

  52. In case people still do not have enough panda cuteness, have a look at the Cara Carina Project which is in Japanese which I can’t read but I’ll click at anything to try to get to more pictures. (I think the link at the bottom left takes you to previous posts.)

  53. michellemybelle says:

musicchick – I saw that special too! I loved how the head vet, usually quite professional, kept saying Tai Shan was just “adorable.” I can’t argue with a vet – pandas got it goin’ on.

  54. I saw a special on Discovery Hi-Def channel about the Chinese center/reserve where they breed many many pandas.

XCU of half a dozen pandas in high-definition, Peeps!

Mr. LT and I were slain by teh Qte. (TM)

  56. Cathryn Bauer says:

Not only no tocks, but look at those stubby little legs!

I am going to go cuddle my cats to make up for not being able to cuddle this baby.

  57. pyrit — didja hear about the insomniac dyslexic agnostic who lay awake all night wondering if there was a dog?

  58. OMFG ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!1

  59. TV ALERT!! For any of you on the West Coast, Animal Planet is all Pandas right now (3:37pm) through 5pm. Check Animal Planet for broadcasts in your area. http://animal.discovery.com/tvlistings/schedule.jsp?date=today&channel=APL
It’s called Panda Celebration & the episodes are Meet the Pandas & Baby Panda’s First Year, re Tai Shan at the National zoo in Washington DC. If any of you get a chance to catch it, I PROMISE you will not be disappointed. 😀

  60. Suda Nim – OMG! ROTFL!

  61. Brak_Silverbone says:

The last photo, the baby looks so puzzled. “Why am I here? Why are all these people staring at me?”

And in the next-to-last photo, is there a possibility that the panda has only ONE ‘tock?

  62. /threadjack for those of you who have become Otter fanatics c/o C.O. There’s an Otter special on Animal Planet 1/17, 1/18, & 1/20. Here’s a link:http://animal.discovery.com/tvlistings/series.jsp?series=81543&gid=0&channel=APL

  63. elizabells says:

When I was a little kid we had bamboo in our backyard and my mommy told me panda bears ate bamboo so I ate a bamboo leaf and then I frew up.

  64. “Each week you think she’s about as cute as she can get, and then you have to revise your estimates,” said Dwight Lawson, vice president for animal programs and science at the zoo.

  65. MC2 — I think I will be TiVo-ing that one.

  66. I’m completely overwhelmed.
