“I love you, mommy.”
“I love you too, son – now off you go to school.”

6 pyrit 01.09.07 at 4:18 pm

How does a seal go to school?
On an octobus.

7 chet's momma 01.09.07 at 4:40 pm

oh, sho schweetly, a thinker! awwwwwwww.

8 Tony James 01.09.07 at 4:42 pm

Silly Pyrit – seals don’t live in schools – that’s fish! Seals live in pods (like peas, but bigger, cuter, and less green).
Although according to Wikipedia, their method of locomotion is called galumphing…
“Now then, son – you know what I’ve told you about galumphing in the house…”

9 Sprout 01.09.07 at 4:45 pm

Eh, it just looks like the smaller one is positioned behind the other.. doesnt look like a kiss to me.

15 NebraskaErin 01.09.07 at 5:09 pm

Shmooch!

16 mariser 01.09.07 at 5:23 pm

“but mooooom! all the otter kids are out surfing!”
“doesnt matter. you sit here until you’ve digested the 6 lbs of fish you just ate”

17 Theo 01.09.07 at 5:30 pm

“Galumphing” is a Lewis Carroll word, from…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jabberwocky

18 CG 01.09.07 at 5:31 pm

“He left it dead and with its head he went galumphing back.”

Now I know what that looks like. Thanks TJ!

19 coaddict 01.09.07 at 5:31 pm

mariser, that’s hilarious!

the pic is yet another reason to travel to the land down under (and to lotr territory). who wants to escape the snow and go along?

galumphing is now my new favorite word =)

20 CG 01.09.07 at 5:32 pm

and Teho:)

21 mariser 01.09.07 at 5:37 pm

“galumphing” is from Jabberwocky? live and learn…
I’d always thought it was a *real* word, yanno, like “galoshing”.

22 Theo 01.09.07 at 5:40 pm

It’s real *now*, like “chortle”. That was Carroll’s genius.

23 Elizabeth B. 01.09.07 at 5:41 pm

It’s “New Zealand and Australia” because she’s been taking pictures in both places, and I’m not entirely certain where this one fit into her grand tour. :) Yay!!! My dog may not have made it on, but I’m happy Elysa’s seals did.

24 A thinker 01.09.07 at 5:45 pm

I wish to be a seal, so I can galumph. Maybe I will galumph, anyway. Hmm.

25 Tony James 01.09.07 at 5:51 pm

Tink – there are galumphing classes every Wednesday at the Y, 7-9pm, $20 for a 6 week course. Bring your own seal.

26 mariser 01.09.07 at 5:51 pm

I shall galumph in galoshes while chortling at the weather…

T., I meant to say I thought “galumph/galumphing” had originated outside of “Jabberwocky”. though the English language owes much to Mr. Carroll.

27 A thinker 01.09.07 at 6:07 pm

All right, I have purchased my seal, so now to sign up. See you there, Teej.

28 MamaDawn 01.09.07 at 6:29 pm

It’s the opposite of the disapproving bunny… a seal of approval.

29 weeeeeee 01.09.07 at 7:07 pm

wow…and i mean …..wow..

30 R. Moore 01.09.07 at 7:15 pm

If I close my eyes tight enough, maybe I’ll be there…

31 Kas_wiz 01.09.07 at 8:35 pm

Look at their shadows! they’re not actually touching at all.

32 Theo 01.09.07 at 8:40 pm

I was wondering when someone would point that out, actually.

33 Arvay 01.09.07 at 8:43 pm

sealed with a kiss!

34 Lauri 01.09.07 at 9:41 pm

Such great words, chortle and galumping. I didn’t know Lewis Carroll made them! Yay for him! :)

35 miu 01.09.07 at 9:48 pm

Yay for seals!

If I only could be there too… *big sigh*

36 Lauri 01.09.07 at 10:41 pm

Yes, Australia and NZ are definitely on my “things to do” list.

37 Lauri 01.09.07 at 10:44 pm

Shopping a shadow in there would be oh so ez. :P

38 lurkertype 01.09.07 at 11:32 pm

TK is very good at galumphing, too. But it’s PERFECT to describe seal locomotion. Hurray Prof. Carroll!

39 Elizabeth 01.10.07 at 3:26 am

Ah! Clarification. The picture was taken in Australia when she was on a “vacation from her vacation” in New Zealand.

40 Kendally 01.10.07 at 5:18 am

New Zealand & Australia!? Wow, I must have slept through the merging of our countries. Hee hee.

In related news, my brother was chased by a sea lion. They live near his house.

41 Petafoo.com 01.11.07 at 2:27 am

I wonder if nose rubbin’ for seals is the same as dogs. That’s usually a sign of friendship in the k-9 world so maybe they’re saying, “Let’s be buddies.”

Does anyone remember that movie, The Golden Seal? Makes me want to cry just thinking about it.
